WOW!!!! I have come twice and I may have an addiction! Hands down the BEST BURGER I have ever eaten!!! Watch out In N Out & The Counter, Five Guys has the best burgers ever!!! When I walked in the restaurant and menu seemed so sterile and drab...I ordered the kids burger and the girl told me that I can add toppings...thinking that they charge I polity said "no thanks." Then she tells me that they do not charge for extras! I was shocked! I loaded my burger up with everything imaginable!!! I was impressed!!!! The Burgers and FRIES are to die for!!!! I just went back here this weekend to sneak a burger into the Dome - and they do not disappoint. The fries are very tasty, as you can tell they are fresh cut and, to the untrained pallet, double fried, but I could be wrong. The burgers are fresh, and while I fail to see the in n out comparisons, I guess because they are both fresh. We had heard from the media how much better Five Guys is compared to In-N-Out, but California based In-N-Out has nothing to fear. This Five Guys, which is probably a franchise, was poorly managed with spotty customer service, loud music, and hamburgers that just turned to goo. It was about noon Wednesday, June 15th when our party of four drove to this Five Guys. We were on vacation in Reno and were planning to stop at the Mycra Pac sale in Moraga. Five Guys is located on the corner and street parking it pretty tough. However, there is a large free parking garage nearby. As we entered Five Guys, we were hit with loud background music. It seemed more for the enjoyment of the employees than the patrons. Our cashier was Amanda, and she must have had a bad day, or maybe she is always grumpy. This was our first time ordering and we didn't know the difference between a Hamburger and a Little Hamburger. Amanda mumbled that the Hamburger contained two patties. When we couldn't understand her, she sarcastically commented that patties means meat! We ordered the following - Little Hamburger w/no grilled mushrooms ($3.79), Little Hamburger with bacon ($4.59), Bacon Burger ($5.99), Hamburger ($5.19), two regular drinks ($1.99/ea), and large fries ($4.79). Comparatively, this is more costly than In-N-Out, but we had high expectations due to the publicity. The wide assortment of toppings on the burgers is included in the price. While placing our order, we noticed the numerous large bags in the middle of the restaurant allegedly containing potatoes. Also there are a couple of bins of free peanuts in the shell for patrons. The peanuts seem like a gimmick. There was plenty of available seating both inside and outside during this lunch time. It was hot, so we decided to eat inside. Our table was rocky and scooting the chairs made a grinding sound against the hard floor. At In-N-Out the booths, tables and most chairs are fixed, so rocky, uneven seating is not a problem. The burgers came wrapped in aluminum foil with numbers 1-4. We didn't know what this meant and had to open the package to find out which burger we ordered. Later we figured out it was the order in which the burgers were ordered, but by then one of our party had taken a bite of the other's bacon burger. One of us ordered a burger with no grilled mushrooms, but it came with it anyway. As we ate, the buns collapsed and turned to goo. It was a mess eating our meal. Additionally, the bacon pieces were miniscule and not worth the extra cost. Our French fries came in a large paper cup and were not the shoe string potatoes. They are cut in a larger size and were not crunchy or crisp. I thought it was a little too greasy and pretty expensive considering what you got. We also ordered an ice tea, and the self-serve machine had 4 different buttons for different options. Push the button, pull the lever, and voila. Again, I thought this was a gimmick. Keep it simple. If a patron wants sugar or lemon or whatever, they should be adult enough to mix it themselves. As we ate, we watched the staff behind the glass wall just standing around and jiving with each other. In-N-Out staff always appears busy making potatoes, wiping tables, etc. Here, they could at least appear to look busy and spend some time tidying up the place including sweeping the proliferation of peanut shells on the floor. Afterwards, I wasn't as full as I expected, and I am not a big eater. The restrooms, both the men and women, could only accommodate one patron at a time. It would seem that a restaurant of this size would have a few stalls. Five Guys needs improvement in their franchises to ensure that certain standards of customer service, cleanliness, and appeal are met. If this franchise is the standard, then they have an uphill battle to gain a toehold in the competitive hamburger business in California. The following day, we went to In-N-Out in Daly City and had one Cheeseburger ($2.25), one Double-Double ($3.25), one order of fries ($1.40), and one Iced Tea ($1.50). The price is about half that of Five Guys and the experience is more pleasant. No gimmicks, no music, good customer service, clean and comfortable seating, burgers presented so that you can see what is inside, burgers with good flavor and toasted buns that don't get mushy. Here, simplicity is the key to success. No, we are not affiliated with In-N-Out. We grew up in southern California and have been eating their burgers for many years, enjoying the consistent quality, no matter which location we visit. I saw that Consumer Reports rated In N Out #1 and 5 Guys #2. Coincidentally, 5 Guys just opened up a store not too far from us. I decided I needed to go an check them out. Up front, I will admit that I am a big fan of In N Out. In N Out is consistently good and the quality control is outstanding with good flavor and textures and super clean stores. Like most fast food places, you place your order and pay for it and they give you a number and you go pick it up when your number is called. That part is all familiar enough. But, I was surprised at how expensive the 5 Guys burger was. I had the Cheeseburger ($5.69) and all the toppings offered are free - just ask for them. I had lettuce, mayo, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions and mustard. I also had a regular fries ($2.79) and a regular (small) drink ($1.99). I was really surprised when the register rang up a total of $11.35! Holy Cow, this is a fast food burger joint, for cripes sake! I had gone after the prime lunch hour so I didn't have to wait long. They don't ask if it is a "to go" or "eat in" order. They don't care. Everything comes out the same way - burgers wrapped in HD foil, fries in a cup and everything in a paper sack! I was very impressed at how big/heavy the Cheeseburger was. The meat is two patties of beef. It has real leaf lettuce (not the chopped stuff McDonald's, Burger King and others use), a slice of real beefstake tomato and lots of Cheddar Cheese (no choice of cheese - Cheddar or none) and a very soft, spongy bun. I knew it was going to be messy because I could barely open my mouth wide enough to take a bite. Well, even though there was a lot of meat, I was disappointed with the lack of flavor and a somewhat gummy texture. It was lacking any flavor of a really well-grilled burger. And the texture was a bit reminiscent of dense/heavy meatloaf, not of a grilled burger patty. The bun had no special flavor and it was too soft/weak to be of much help in holding everything together. The result was that the whole thing pretty much came apart on me after eating about 2/3 of it. I let it all topple into the foil wrapper and just picked at pieces from there. The fries were good - nice texture - crispy on the outside and fairly tender and moist inside. Note everyone will like the Cajun dusting but I liked it. And there is no way to eat a regular order by myself. It's a very generous serving. And the free peanuts in the shell are a nice feature. They're in boxes with little self-serve, cardboard baskets stacked nearby. You just help yourself to them, take them back to your table or put them in bag if it is a 'to go' order. Bottom line - it is expensive, lacks a good, grilled flavor and the whole burger is kinda bland and way too fragile. Plus, it is very expensive, especially when compared to In N Out. This $11+ price tag would pay for a meal for two at In N Out and it would be a better cheeseburger & hamburger experience. All hype for full price. This place is weak. I'd enjoy it if I were drunk off my bum and In and Out didn't exist. Bun does not stand up to meat juices. Disintegrated in my hands. The bacon is non-existent. I definitely couldn't taste the pork fat and I have a sixth sense for pork fat. Cheese wasn't fully melted. And melted cheese is 10x better than non-melted. The meat is decent but nothing to rave about. Probably the only part of the burger that I wasn't disappointed with. (Education side note: According to author Jack Lynch via NPR, "it was 17th century poet John Dryden who gave us the ban on prepositions at the end of sentences -- though he announced this in mid-career, after he had happily broken that rule earlier.") After reading glowing reviews here and in Consumer Reports, I was very excited to try a Five Guys burger, but the experience left me disappointed. I wasn't crazy about the taste of the burger meat. It seemed a little gamy to me. Greasy, too. I appreciate all the toppings that are available, but what's the point if you don't like the burger? I didn't care for the fries, either. However, if you like the fries at Five Guys, you're in luck, as the portions are huge. A large order can easily feed at least two people. Service was friendly -- not at the register, but on the pickup side. I don't think the wait time was 15-20 minutes like some people had said. It was busy when we visited (the line stretched out the door). We waited less than 10 minutes for our food. They make things to order, so you have to expect to wait a bit, you know? read more

Dripping burger love can be had here! To me, this place uses the "bigger is better" approach to food. Regular means a lot. This translates to over flowing. All the way 8 condiments and there's 7 more you can add. With all the topping and frying most of it, there's some flavor to be had. For me, the food was on par with my expectation. It was hot and didn't take too long. The staff was pretty friendly, and that's always good. Peanuts. They are free. Just scoop some out of the box. I had some. It's kind of weird, but I guess it's better than nothing. So, just to let you know, two orders for two people can easily exceed 1500 calories each. Together, you're likely to spend over $20. Go into it knowing that's what you're in for. Parking is most likely going to be in the public garage down the street. Good Stuff!! I had been anticipating the Opening of this place, and it is finally here!! The line was small when I went in, but the Lunch rush came in while I waited for my food. The place is where Fatburger used to be in Phill, but I have a feeling that this place will be around for a long time. The People are friendly here and I was greeted by 3 different people. They all explained to me that a Regular Cheeseburger is actually a Dble. Burger Patty. The Small is the single Patty. I ordered the Sm. Cheeseburger and a Grilled Cheese for the lil' ones. I ordered the Reg. Cheeseburger with A-1 Sauce, Lettuce, Tomatoes. and Mushrooms. They accidentally put Mustard on it, but I am a Mustard fan so it worked out in the end. The Burger was Juicy, and the produce was Fresh. The Fries were not ordered this time because the lil' one is allergic to nuts, and the Fries are cooked in Peanut Oil. Speaking of nuts, they have Complimentary Peanuts you can help yourself to. The Fountain drink they have is Coke, but they also have that Iced Tea Selection machine so you can choose your flavor of Tea. They even brought Coloring Crayons and let us know the kids can post their art work. One of the Supervisors asked me for my order Number so he can keep an eye out for it. He even brought it out when it was ready. All in all, good experience and will be back because it is close to work and there is plenty available parking nearby. Great food. Very simple menu while at the same time having lots of options. Great for kids. The adults had cheeseburgers which were pretty big, with double patties. They only serve them well done and juicy and that's pretty good. The kids had a little cheeseburger and a hot dog. Kind of picky eaters some times, but they both finished them. There's also free peanuts while you wait, and a neat little index cards for the kids to color. Good fries too. Everything was just a little greasy but they say it's all peanut oil which may or may not be better than other oils, I don't know. Went here with my girlfriend for the first time and it was TOO GOOD. I had the hamburger and the lady was like, "You do know it has 2 patties?" And I was like, oh man even better! So my girlfriend got the little hamburger and we both had everything! We also got some fries! So I ate mines... and... it was so balanced. In n Out puts too much lettuce. But the mushrooms was awesome! and the pickles... was the best pickles i ever ate in a hamburger... I wanted to buy another one but my girlfriend would have called me fat-butt. The look of this place reminds me of In and Out Burger. It's a little more pricier, but the flavor of their burgers are pretty good. They offer tons of toppings like green bell pepers, jalapeno, mushrooms, onions, grilled onions, mustard, ketchup, etc. I looked over the menu and saw "little burger." Not knowing what it meant and thinking to myself "I don't want a little burger," I ordered a regular burger. Big mistake for me. It comes with TWO, HUGE patties. From now on, I only order the little burger and I still leave full. You can order fries cajun style, which is a great twist. Five guys, where have you been all my life?! This place is great! The food is awesome for the fact that you can put as many condiments as you want! This is more of a diner burger experience, nothing like In N Out which is great. The fries are a little bit too salty though. And I love their soda machine. Definitely one of my favorites. The way the dining area is set up is too close for comfort though. I feel like the people next to us might be able to hear everything and be careful carrying your food and drinks. You might bump into someone. I recommend that if you come here often to get the app for your iPhone or Android. It saves you so much time in waiting in line just to order. You can even put what time you'll come by to pick it up. My boyfriend and I went during a very busy time but since I ordered and paid through the app all we had to do is go pick it up. The burgers here are decent. A little on the pricey side...$5.99 for a two-patty burger. You can get a "little burger" if you're not as hungry. My boyfriend described this place as being "everything good about in n out --emphasized" so basically..its good..the meat is better, the flavor is stronger..but its just a tad more greasy than i'd want in a burger. The french fry order is big so a small is a good share between two people. And the peanuts are great to munch on while your burger is prepped. After hearing from everyone that this place is better than In-N-Out, we had to try it. I went with the bf - he got a regular cheeseburger, I got the little cheeseburger. It was nice to be able to add a bunch of toppings for free - in other places they charge per extra. We wanted to try the cajun and the regular fries so we ordered 2 small fries. It's funny, of ALL the people who told us we needed to try this place, NO ONE mentioned that one order of fries is enough to feed a small family of big eaters. Needless to say, we barely dented the fries. The cajun fries were a bit heavy on the cajun, but they were really good. I just ate two fries at once - a reg and a cajun to balance the overpowering properties of the cajuns. The burgers were really good, I could've stopped half way from being full but I continued on until I was ready to burst.... You can tell the whole staff works really hard to keep things looking nice, and with how busy this place is, it's important to flip tables fast. That being said, it seemed like they had too many people working in a shift. While we were eating, a girl must've wiped the same table down 50 times and adjusted the chairs 51 times. The burgers are OK. If you're nearby and want a burger, stop by for a burger. However, there is no need to get in your car and drive here. The fries were very, very disappointing. Limp and soggy. If you're going to spend any time in a deep fryer, you've got to come out crispy. That's why we fry things, for the crunch. Limp fries are just a way to deliver more oil to your arteries without a taste sensation pay-off. Granted, I visited during opening week. I knew going in that 5 Guy's was way more expensive then most of the better fast food burgers, but I was just hungry and in the area. You'll pay almost double what In N Out will run you for a double double and fries. The regular burger here is a double patty, so if you don't want 2 patties, you need to order the "Little" burger. It's sort of like shaming you into ordering the bigger more expensive burger. The fries are good, but way too much salt, so order with out salt if that's important to ya. You do get a ton of fries with just the smallest order of fries. They fill a cup and then pour a bunch more in the brown paper bag. The bag soaks thru with grease so don't put that on your fine leather car seats! I get my burger and the cheese isn't melted at all ...damn! The fries are good, I'll giv'em that and I heard but haven't tried, if you dine in and run low on fries, they'll give you more! Just ask for free! I'll still pick Habit Burger over 5 Guys for the price difference as well as In N Out. It's easy to spend $13 for a fast food lunch here and for that price I can go to a good brewpub and get a fantastic 1/2 pound burger with fries. I love love love this place so much. I love it so much that even though I was craving something else, Terri mentioned five guys and with no hesitation I said yes. Think of a halfway point between a fast food place, and a burger at a restaurant. I was lucky that when I was first told about five guys, the cheeseburger and little cheeseburger concept was explained to me. I think it's a cool idea but anyone not familiar with this joint will probably get confused if it's not explained to them at the time of ordering. I get the same order every single time. One cheeseburger, all the way. All the way meaning all the items in Black which include the usual: mustard, mayo, ketchup, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes. Plus mushrooms and grilled onions. I personally find it odd that the grilled onions are the normal all the way topping yet raw onions are not. But no complaints. The burger is excellent. Comes wrapped in foil and I love spending just a few seconds staring at the wrapped burger, preparing myself for the awesomeness that awaits. The burger is delicious as always. Always hot and so much filling that they are dripping onto your foil plate. Two words: BURGER HEAVEN. I also order a side of small Cajun fries. A small order is actually plenty of food for two people so there is really no need to go higher unless you're with a bigger crowd. It's the perfect amount of seasoning on the fries where you can taste the Cajun, but it's not over powering. Much better then regular fries. While you wait they have boxes and boxes of peanuts to munch on. They have framed articles all over the place saying "Hey look how great we are." but in all fairness, they have a right to brag. Tonight was an interesting trip to Five Guys. Two of the cooks were making very loud comments and jokes back and forth to each other as if nobody was in the place. It was the most unprofessional I have seen the place. Then you have one guy calling out the order numbers who you can hardly hear. It sounded like he was whispering. Awesome & excellent! Ordered the bacon cheeseburger with mayo, lettuce, mustard, ketchup, tomatoes and jalapenos. It's in the old Fat Burger location. It was sad to see Fat Burger go. But, glad another burger joint came in here. Even more excited when it is a new place that I've never been to. The burger patties are nice and thick. Much better than In N Out. Although I do like In N Out, I don't like their skinny patties. I like a nice thick and fat patty. The burger patties here are juicy and flavorful. I only wish they had better cheese. The cheese struck me as kind of bland. Not sure why. The fries were good too. There is a sign over the kitchen that says where the potatoes came from. so i decided to try out the place..the environment looked a lot like an in and out joint with a touch of east coast.. the burgers were huge..which might have sidetracked me for a bit..dont get me wrong, our burgers were delicious..tho my tastebuds were expecting more..i dont know what it was, i just knew it was lacking taste of something.. as for the staff..our cashier was freindly and informative..as for the rest behind the counter..besides it being loud inside, i can hear mostly the staff just horsing around..which was kind of a turn off..cause it didnt seem like they take their job seriously..especially the fact it seems like they bring the food to people if they feel like it..they need to be consistent to whether theyre calling out order numbers or then they just choose to cateer to their friends.. read more

In N Out without the drive-thru? Pretty much! But that ain't a bad thing, because any place you can get a tasty burger is a good place to be. Decent prices and a simple menu make visits to Five Guys a pleasure. The menu does hold back some secrets from the newbies though. Word to the wise: 1) a burger is actually two patties, while the little burger is a single patty. 2) Short of bringing the entire population of your town with you, there is no reason under the sun to ever order the large fries. The regular fries is already too much for two people! The customization of the burger is probably their greatest draw, along with no upcharge for a more gourmet topping like grilled onions and jalapenos. I've never had any errors with my burger order so the workers there are very on the ball for accuracy. And for orders with more than one burger, the items are numbered on your receipt and a corresponding sticker is placed on your burger - no guesswork! Free peanuts while you wait, plus good tunes always playing overhead, make this a fun and quick stop for a good burger. Whoever you five guys are, thanks for the yummy burgers! read more

Alas - I must be harsh... The once-great hath fallen a star... The quality and the service at this former titan have taken a major slide since my initial review. I don't know if this is the byproduct for hiring a more-inexpensive work force, or just less love and attention to detail in the finished meal, but I am less and less excited to visit particular Five-Guys with each passing time. I have gone to other California locations of Five Guys in the intervening duration, and all have maintained a high standard, akin to my first review - but the Pleasant Hill location - not so-much... This place rocks! The portions are humongous and service was fantastic. The fries are scrumptous and burgers (double patties) are absolutely delicious. I am torn between this place and Nation's. They have peanuts for you to munch on when you are waiting for your order, which is always a good thing. The first time I had a meal here my heart almost stopped because of all the goodness in the burgers and fries. We came in and looking a bit bewildered the lady at the register asked if it was our first time there and then explained how the menu worked (the "Little Hamburger" is actually not so little and the additional toppings are free). The burgers were juicy, hot, and delicious! The fries appeared to be fresh cut, like at In N' Out, but thicker like "steak fries" you'd get at a steakhouse; Awesome! Plus, you can munch on free peanuts while you wait for your food, which didn't take very long. I wasn't impressed with the decor. It looked like a cheaper version of In N' Out or Fuddruckers with self-promotion slapped on every wall and window surface. However, the food and service more than made up for it! read more

I placed an online order to be ready at 12:30. They said almost ready at 12:25. At 12:40 they said 10-15 more minutes. They were beyond rude and I had somewhere to be and could not wait any longer. They said they would refund me never did, and treated me horribly. AWFUL experience and horrible business operations. Tried calling manager they put on hold and never came back. read more

Took over 15 minutes to get a hot dog and a bunless burger. When we placed our order there were only 3 or 4 orders ahead of ours. The only reason why it wasn't 20 minutes (or more) was because when they called an order that came in after me, I went to politely inquire as to the status of mine. During the 15+ min wait I overheard one of the employees apologize to someone placing an order that they were understaffed that evening and I laughed, considering they had 4 people prepping food and 1 taking orders. I didn't realize it took 5 or more food preppers to handle that few orders. I did see a LOT (!!) or burgers and buns coming off the grills yet no orders appeared to be being filled, which I found very odd... A lot of people are in love with In & Out and quite frankly I think it's a lot of hype. I have never been a huge fan of their burgers. So, when 5 guys comes along with some East coast bragging, I was interested to see if this would be another over hype or the real deal. What I DID appreciate was that with all of the bragging and awards.......5 Guys most DEFINITELY backed it all up with a fantastic burger and fries! They make to order so bacon, grilled onions and cheese were a must! The best thing I liked was the seasoning of the meat! Perfect! Combined with the add on's & fries............... 5 guys is a hit! I will like to see them bring in some onion rings, but even without......it's a definite YES on eating here! read more

Pretty much like any Five Guys location. Except the one in Brentwood has the cool soda machine of a bajillion different favors. I came in just before noon and had to be in and out in a jiffy. I had a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, raw jalepenos and hot sauce which is Frank's Red Hot bc I put that Shh on everything. It wasn't busy at this time so there were plenty of seating. The lemon wedges for my water were fresh and they were happy to give me more hot sauce. Service was friendly and the burger was tasty. Parking can be found on the street, the nearby lot or in the garage. And help yourself to as much peanuts as you want if you're into those kind of nutty things. read more

With all the hype 5 guys have been getting as the in-n-out killer, it was just meh. 2 cheeseburgers, regular fries and 1 drink between two people cost me 18 bucks! The meat was nice and juicy, I'll give em that, but the buns were soggy from the mayo and ketchup, the mushrooms didn't really add much flavor, the cajun fries were too salty even after using ketchup and malt vinegar, and the bacon added the crunch but not much bacon taste. Now, I am on a diet and always did my research on these places before hittin it up as a cheat meal so it would be worth it. But at the end of it all I only felt regret not just because of the calories, but what I got for the price AND the calories. Here are a list of places that serve em as good or better for cheaper. In-n-Out Habit Burger Nation's Digger's Even Xtreme Burger in Antioch 3 Stars because the meat was good, the service was great, and the place was nice and clean. I got no problem going here again with friends who have never tried it, but I probably wouldn't pick it myself. read more

Came here for the first time today and I was secretly hoping that waiting in that line out the door in the heat would be worth it. It was OKAY.. The 15 toppings you get to choose from aren't anything special. I was mostly excited for the grilled mushrooms and jalapenos but other than that, A1 sauce was the only other unlikely sauce you'd see on any other burger. The little cheeseburger itself was juicy but somewhat smaller than what I had imagined it to be. It was about $5 and a burger, which has two patties, was around $1 more.. I should have gotten that one since I was still hungry. Maybe I was irritated from a stressful morning, and the heat and trouble finding parking didn't make things better. I didn't feel like waiting for a table to clear up so I took my order to go. It was a tad bit soggy when I got home so I think it's only fair I give this place another shot. Every East Coast resident I know raves about this place and treats me like a hillbilly when I assert the superiority of In-n-Out. It's official: screw you guys because you are wrong. The main issue is that the burger itself has no flavor. I don't mind high fat content, but this just tasted like gray supermarket beef. At least an In-n-Out patty has a meaty robustness to it, even if it is thin. I suppose you could cover the lackluster meat in a bunch of toppings to gussy it up a bit. Lipstick on a pig comes to mind. I had high hopes for the grilled onions and fries (I know In-n-Out fries are an acquired taste), but the onions we not very pleasant and the fries were just okay. Unless there's some deep secret to this place I'll consider this duel settled. Now to take it up with the Texans and this Whataburger nonsense... read more

After hearing about the mutually exclusive fanboy war reminiscent of the Lakers vs Clippers in Los Angeles (YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE ONE, NOT BOTH), I had to try it. Oh Five Guys, how I wanted to like you much, much more. I feel that when the In-N-Out opens along Cilpancingo, I won't ever come here again unless I craved peanuts and cajun fries. *I really hope they don't order a hit on me, sending five guys as a calling card after reading this review. You impressed me with the free peanuts at the entrance, funky lingo (All The Way = Everything on the burger), unique Cajun fries, and greasiness of the paper bag after seconds of receiving it (if i'm gunna be a fatty, might as well go "ALL THE WAY!") They were very generous on the large fries, filling up the cup container along with half an inch of the bag! The burger WAS large, but somehow the regular (read: double patty) was too meaty (IF THAT WAS EVEN POSSIBLE). I think the meat wasn't seasoned well and rather bland, relying on the cheese and toppings to add flavor. Or perhaps this was due to the massive herbs/spices added to the cajun fries that brought my tastebuds to a higher baseline than before. But whatever it was... it just wasn't as amazing as the In-N-Out burgers that I crave every-so-often. I feel as though a burger craving would NOT be satisfied through Five Guys. One unique thing that doesn't come often on fast-food burgers are the grilled mushrooms. Though, I think the flavor of the mushrooms are overcome with the pickles and lettuce, so perhaps next time I'll order extra mushrooms and cheese without the other toppings. read more

We waited with great anticipation for the Pleasant Hill 5 Guys. All those reviews of the other outlets talked about the great greasy, juicy burger; that would hit the spot just right! the good news: Great atmosphere, very friendly staff (but I could really do without them yelling our arrival at the door. If I had been alone I would have felt like that scene in the The Lonely Guy with the spotlight abruptly shining on Steve Martin and the maître d' shouting "TABLE FOR ONE"), fries great, toppings great, bun great (and toasted fairly well contrary to how others received theirs). Regular fries is HUGE, enough for 3 people as they overflowed it to about double the container's size. I got the double (regular) burger, plenty big enough, the small (single burger) would probably do the job too. the bad news: THE BURGER. They tell you on the board it's going to come 'well done and juicy'. We usually try to get ours medium rare if they'll do it, or medium otherwise, but, OK, if 'well done and juicy' is all they do, I guess we can try that, especially with all those rave reviews. We had my two patties and my g/f's one patty to sample. All were identical, all were DRY AS A BONE, no greasy, no juicy; they tasted like something I'd cook at home, don't need that tyvm. I actually made the effort to talk to one of the owners on the way out. I tried to suggest that maybe they were having teething troubles and that maybe one of their 300 cooks behind the counter wasn't cooking them right. But he explained that they had cooked many samples ahead of the opening, with only a small percentage not coming out right. Oh, OK then, I guess we just got really unlucky with our THREE OUT OF THREE all being dry as could be. Or maybe that's just the way they are and we don't happen to like them that way. We haven't given up on the place, much to like, worth another try. But I wish they'd taken our trying to be constructive criticism a bit more seriously.
