It was alright.. nothing to write home about. We dropped in today for dinner after thinking long and hard about what to get. As we looked over the ultra simple menu we decided to just go for it. My bf ordered the regular size bacon cheeseburger and I myself ordered the "little." Now when they say regular they mean 2 patties, and little means a regular burger in my language (1 patty). I was thinking it was gonna be miniature like the whopper jr. but no, it was a pretty big burger. The fries come in a cup and are really not that great. Soggy and not crispy like I like my fries (think Micky D's). They are soggier than Nations, Wendy's and any other gross fry place. So my 3 stars isn't for the fries obviously. :( Its for the friendly service I received by a girl who couldnt be much older than high school age with braces who was so nice to explain the sizes of the burgers to us newbies. The burgers do come with a heapload of toppings so make sure you know what you want on it and there are extras which I think are worth it such as bbq sauce, hot sauce and jalepenos, etc. I wanted a kick so I ordered mine with bbq and jalepenos. Now the burger was YUMMY! It came on a nice soft bun and it really fills you up to the point where you really honestly don't need the fries. The sodas are a bit watered down; self serve so its not like we put a lot of ice... the bathroom was clean with automatic flush, water and paper towels. Overall the experience was okay. We came for the dinner rush and the other people who worked here were on random breaks here and there and came across a little rude as they pushed past you to get to the ketchup, lol. This visit confirmed my love for The Habit Grill. I ordered the cheeseburger lettuce wrap and you get less burger for more money. They were completely out of root beer. None in back. A sign might prove helpful for that. Sodas were predictable, thankfully, and did not disappoint. We got tons of fries with our large order. Unfortunately, they weren't really worth eating. Better and maybe less fries, would be a good idea. They were mushy, some fries had more kick than others, some had too much of the seasoning. Rather unappetizing. We only ate a few each. The burgers were below average. There are loads of burger joints in the east bay alone to choose from so to produce a sub-par bland burger isn't a good thing. Could be why the place was pretty much empty at lunch time even though loads of people were out and about. Even with the free toppings of sautéed onions and mushrooms, the burger itself was bland, overcooked and crumbled, and the bun reminded me of when I was a kid, taking slices of wonder bread and kneading the slice until it turned into a doughball. Was here last night and ordered a little cheeseburger with lettuce, pickles, grilled onion, ketchup, and mustard... which I got none of besides three pickles and barely any lettuce. I waited 23 minutes for it. I understand they were busy but come on. I didn't know it was missing things on it until after I got home and I live in Benicia so it's not very convenient to drive all the way back. Hoping someone sees this reviews and contacts me. I walked in with my 3 year old. Nobody was in line and I had to wait 2min before they were able to help me. The manger (I'm pretty sure it was the manger) finally approached the cash register with a very depressed attitude At this point there were no burgers on the grill... So biz was very slow. The last two or three visits had missing/wrong toppings, skimped on fries, and skimped on sauces for dipping. I understand that mistakes happen, but each subsequent visit is worse. Wow!! Yumazing!! After hearing so much hype about this place and with being such an appreciator for a good quality burger, I just had to taste what all the buzz was about. This place is located in cutesy downtown Pleasant Hill, smack dab on the corner of crescent blvd, situated to your left across the street from peets. It similar to In N out in many ways....Bright, immaculaty clean place- filed with cheery faced employees just as enthusiastic to take your order as you are to devour there food. They have slightly more options of items such as hotdogs, bacon burgers a wide selections of toppings (that are added for no additional charge) unfortunately there prices are not as quite as friendly as IN N Out. I ordered a Cheeseburger with grilled onions only. I was given a number and waited and given as packed as it was, it actually did not take to long to receive my order. Regardless of what the other mediocre reviews claim, I thought my burger was fanflippentastic!!! Thick, juicy, incredibly flavorful patty, perfectly grilled onions, nice soft chewy bun, my burger was absolutely perfect and just screamed quality, goodness!!! I never realized how big this opening was until almost two years after the fact. I read an article on a foodie website somewhere that talked about burger chains that were once exclusive to one coast are slowly but surely migrating to the opposite coast. Such is the case with Five Guys. I love the concept of being able to customize your burger with extras like grilled mushrooms, relish, green peppers, A1 steak sauce, and barbecue sauce. I got a burger with everything - and I love the fact that they can put jalapeños in my burger. But I was disappointed to see that they only put 3 measly slices in the middle. Maybe I'll ask them to pile them on next time. The free peanuts was a nice touch even though I found it puzzling. Don't these belong in a bar, not a burger joint? Must be an East Coast thing. The cajun fries tasted like regular fries with Red Robin's seasoning salt on them. I wasn't impressed. Overall, I wasn't throughly impressed by Five Guys. Here's why: * Cajun fries were good, but a bit soggy and way too much "cajun" seasoning * Pricey. $13 for a bacon cheeseburger, cajun fries, and a soda. As to the fries, you order a regular size and it's double the amount on auto! The cajun fries are super tasty and if you're not used to spices, it leaves a kick on your lips. Yummo! Disclosure, I will be ranting at the end of my review..... I am a FAN of Five Guys Burgers and cannot wait until more and more shops open up throughout California. Very exciting! The man toy and I needed to run to Williams Sonoma at Broadway Plaza one day, so we tried Five Guys for the first time since it is just down the road. We walk in, we order, wait for our burgers & fries to be made, then open up that foil........ Dun Dun Dun!!! Delish is working it's magic in our mouth. Yes, you heard me (or read me), there was a Five Guys Burger party in our mouths. (Get your damn head out of the gutter! Dirty mind). We liked the freshness of the meat and veggies. The flavors are its own and has made us Five Guy fans. We cannot wait until we are back in the area to treat ourselves. You can also get a "mini", which is a single patty. If I were you, opt for the standard. Extremely tasty. Right up there with In-N-Out on quality and freshness. I have eaten here twice now and have been generally very impressed with the food, the people and the overall operation. The menu is classic burger stand at its best. Burgers, Hot Dogs and Fries and that's about it. Don't come here thinking you'll get a chicken sandwich or something. If you're vegetarian, well there is always grilled cheese, but it's a burger place for christ sake so have a burger. On the bugers, they are really very good. My only issue is with the very soft buns, they tend to fall apart on you, especially if you load up your burger with lots of toppings as I did on my first vist. The texture of the buns are great for eating, nice and soft and don't make your burger squirt out the opposite end on every bite, but not quite enough to them to keep the burger together for the entire meal. The patties were soft and juicy despite being cooked all the way through. Keep in mind that a regular burger is two patties (quite a mouthful) while a small burger is only one, which is plenty for most eaters. Personally, I get the regular. My favorite things about this place is the fries. Quite possibly the best I have ever had, and certainly the best I have had locally. Not to mention that you order a regular (think tall starbucks coffee cup full) and they put at least that many more into the bag. My son and I made ourselves sick eating them they were so good. Overall a very good, loud and boisterous place with free peanuts while you wait and a good system to get the food to you fast, without it tasting like fast food. For the past week I've been hearing recommendations on checking out this burger joint across from the movie theater. The moment you walk in the door, an army of employees in red shirts look and greet you from the kitchen enthusiastically. The menu was layout was simple, no secret menus. All the extra burger options were on the menu as well at no extra cost, including mushrooms and hot sauce. I ordered the Cheeseburger and Cajun Fries. The quality and taste of the burger was phenomenal!! The first bite of the burger gives you taste of the clean tender non greasy meat patty with cheesy melted goodness. The Cajun Fries were delicious, not too spicy nor salty at all. The target competition it looks as though their going against is IN-N-OUT. But after experiencing Five Guys. this place brings down the house as the Best Burger joint in Pleasant Hill. Worth the extra 15 minute drive past In-n-out. read more

My little darlings and I went out for some grub on a daddy and us night. The original impromptu plan was to go to Jack's around the corner, but, upon arrival, sans rezzies, we were told that there would be a 45 minute wait - entirely our (my) fault. You see, having a teenage daughter and a pre-teen daughter makes food choices about as difficult as early morning clothes choices before school - each as excruciating as the other. For the peeps that think the interior of this place does not remind them of an In and Out, I suggest you adjust your perceptions and your prescription glasses. Same type of minimal menu, basically the same workers wearing the same, coordinating outfits, same white and red tile decor. But for those who know me, I don't give two craps about decor in a fast food joint, just toss out some quality grub and I am good to go. So, I got the double bacon cheeseburger with: # Mayo # Relish # Onions # Lettuce # Pickles # Tomatoes # Grilled Onions # Grilled Mushrooms # Ketchup # Mustard # Jalapeno Peppers They call this ATW (all the way). It was good, messy just like my 2x3 animal style from In and Out. The burger was good, not great. The fries BLOW In and Out away, though. Thick cut with the skins on, they were pretty good (didn't get cajun style, the teens changed my order while I was looking for my cash). All in all, a pretty good burger, good price, close by home and closer than In and Out, with....better fries. The first time we drove by this place, it had just recently opened, and there was a line formed all the way down the block!! Hmmm. Enough to persuade us to wait a little bit until the buzz died down, but also enough to intrigue us as well. We waited until it was pouring rain on Sunday and we just happened to have some errands to run in the general vicinity. We made this our first stop. When we walked in, I had to immediately grab a two person table or else we seriously wouldn't have had anywhere to sit! I wasn't too hungry so I just wanted a regular cheeseburger. Well the regular cheeseburger is HUGE, two patties. Too much for me that day (which is unusual). The fries also were totally overflowing and turning the brown paper bag clear... always appetizing. My Cajun fries were a little too flavorful. Too much Lawry's seasoning or something. I could only eat 5 fries before feeling like my mouth was as parched as the desert in July. After eating what I could of my meal, the fiance and I both decided that the food here is... just okay. Plentiful, but just okay. Yeah, kinda like an in-n-out on steroids. One of the best burger joint in town. The staff are friendly, they explain everything like the size of the fries to the amount of patties per burger. The small fries serve 2 people and the regular burger has two patties and the mini has one patty. I have rarely seen a burger with mushrooms, but it was very tasty. The fries were crunchy. The best part was that there were free peanuts while you wait for your food. My buddies and I was chowing down on the peanuts causing a mess, but the staff was friendly enough to clean it up. I don't understand the infatuation between people and Five Guys french fries. These fries taste like baked potato slices and aren't crispy like a good fry should be. Although I do like the cajun seasoning. My boyfriend and I got a regular and ate maybe five each. So the french fries are out for me. The problem I really had with their food... the burger. My one guy makes a better burger at home. Maybe that's too high a standard but eh...there you go. A traditional one-patty burger is a "little" burger (not really a message I want to send to my kid). I got it with everything...which is to say the top row of free toppings from the menu. The only thing really non-standard on there was mushrooms, and while I like the vegetable in general, they weren't cooked in a way that was a flavor-add for me. Came to the downtown area to walk around and do some shopping. I've been to other Five Guys before but this was my first time at this location. My friend had never been to a Five Guys and had only heard about the restaurant from others. My friend ordered a Hamburger w/ light mayo, pickles, lettuce, onions and jalapeños ($12+). (She was given tomatoes by mistake but didn't mind just taking them off). I ordered a Little Bacon Cheese Burger w/ mayo, mustard, hot sauce, A-1 sauce, onions, mushrooms and jalapeños ($7.50). We decided to split a large Cajun Fry. My friend enjoyed the experience of picking out her toppings and having peanuts while waiting for our food. She also really enjoyed her burger and the seasoning on the Cajun Fries. My food was cooked well and I enjoyed it as much as any Five Guys I've visited. The staff was also friendly and helpful and the restaurant was constantly being cleaned. The woman who was doing the cleaning was so sweet and even offered to get us peanuts but my friend had beat her to it. read more

So Five Guys is the new burger place in town and of course it will get inevitable comparisons to In-and-Out (like Shake Shack got) because the food is similar and it's an east coast chain trying to establish itself on the west coast. I had the Bacon Cheese Dog and Cajun fries at the Pleasant Hill location and I've had a Bacon Cheeseburger at a Five Guys in San Diego. First of all, the burger and dog was excellent. Any place that includes mushrooms in their burgers and dogs is a winner in my book. The meats are thick and juicy and the toppings most generous. The hot dog did not taste like it came out of a vat of boiling water, it was wrapped in bacon (another plus) and it extremely succulent. Yes I used the word "succulent" to describe a hot dog because it was. Cheese in the hot dog and burger was abundant - another plus. Cajun fires were ok...they tasted a little too salty but they give you a lot of fries. They are spicy too so watch out for that. It's definitely a bigger burger than In-and-Out and just as tasty. Not sure if they have the secret menu options that In-and-Out has but in a way I prefer the variety of actual substance that Five Guys provides (e.g. mushrooms, grilled onions, tomatoes, lettuce, etc) vs. different preparation styles. Not only that, toppings are including! You only need to make requests if you want to remove a topping. Smashing! I suggest you run uphill for an hour to burn off Five Guys products - it's a calorie overload. read more

Delicious!!! I got the grilled cheese with grilled onions and mushrooms, and it was so good. Dad got the burger and raved about it, and loved that you can add whatever you want to it at no additional charge. The customer service was probably the BEST I'VE EVER HAD at any type of place like this. An employee came over to us while we were in line with a huge smile on his face and asked if we'd been there before, and asked us what we were thinking about getting, and if we had any questions and joked around with us for a minute. When I walked in the restaurant and menu seemed so sterile and drab...I ordered the kids burger and the girl told me that I can add toppings...thinking that they charge I polity said "no thanks." Then she tells me that they do not charge for extras! I was shocked! I loaded my burger up with everything imaginable!!! I was impressed!!!! The Burgers and FRIES are to die for!!!!
