I had to erase my old review that was based off my first visit because this place gets better and better and I have grown madly in love with it. Five Guys is the bomb.com. For $20 two people are grubbin on a burger that is LOADED with great toppings (and they're all fresh), a big cup of fries to share and a drink each. It really is all-American IMO. Let me elaborate the LOADED benefit because this really is what makes Five Guys incredible. Getting your burger "all the way" includes mayo, lettuce, pickles tomatoes, GRILLED onions, GRILLED MUSHROOMS, ketchup and mustard. Go "all the way" on a little bacon cheeseburger and what do you have? A bacon mushroom cheeseburger with grilled onions and the usual toppings. A burger like that costs you $10-$15 anywhere else, but here it's only $6.50 including tax. Now I specified the little burger because there is no point in getting a plain ol' cheeseburger. Their interpretation of that is a double patty. Their single patty serving is still hefty, and bountiful considering all you can add or subtract to it. Their creed regarding fries is to serve a heap in the cup and serve another heap all over the bag. A double portion, if you will. Unless you're four or more I would not recommend going large. Even regular is more than sufficient and now they have little which easily satisfies two. Being next to the theater makes for a sweet matinee afternoon or casual date night. I love Five Guys restaurant! Very chill atmosphere. My nieces and I went to this specific location after church on a Sunday. Around 2 ish, the lines weren't long at all. It was a good amount of people to where we had a whole table and a whole corner of the building to ourselves. The menu itself is pretty simple and you basically build your own burger. The service was awesome! Not sure of his name but he helped us in a manner of patience and I appreciate that. Especially when our order was a little difficult. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the fries had too much salt. It was drowning in salt. Not sure if this is how it always is but I usually order no salt on my fries everywhere I go. Ok so I come here as a regular and this has been my worst experience so far. I get It.. your closing up in twenty minutes but if your establishment is full with orders waiting at least put out the same amount of work as you would if its lunch time. There's no difference. Two people got there orders before mine and they came in after me, they where rude on top of that rushing people to get out while people were waiting for there orders. They where sweeping peanut shells into people while "cleaning up" it's just ridiculous. Then I get home and I get a lousy grilled cheese, my bun is inside out. I got a bacon cheese burger too with lettuce, no lettuce on the burger but they managed to put two shreds of left over lettuce in the foil when they wrapped it but didn't put it on the burger? The food is decent, but if you're paying $9 for just a burger, it better be amazing. In the end, I rather eat at In-n-out for half the price. I had the double patty cheese burger, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and mushrooms. The Patty's were pretty good, nice meaty flavor. The bun is the let down though, it's slightly cold, instantly soggy and kinda breaks apart. Shredded lettuce is always a letdown too because I love the crunch of fresh lettuce (and it helps with the soggy factor). Also the cheese wasn't fully melted. It's about 1.5x the size of in-n-out's double double, but more than double the price. This is my first time getting Five Guys at this location. I used to get Five Guys a lot when I lived in Concord near the one off of Ygancio Valley Rd. That location was always slow, though the food was better than my experience today in Pleasant Hill. I ordered a to-go online order of a regular lettuce wrap Cheese Burger and small cajun fries. The cajun fries weren't seasoned nearly as much as I'd get at the Concord location. In Concord, the fries were pretty spicy due to the amount of seasoning put on. However, in this location I had some fries that were decently covered and others that were practically regular fries. I can live with less spice (unlike my husband), but I'll admit it was a bit disappointing. The bigger issue that I had was with my lettuce wrapped burger. And I'll start out by saying that I very much so understand the difficulties in making a lettuce-wrapped burger. I always order mine lettuce wrapped from places like In-in-Out and Nations in addition to Five Guys. It can be messy. However, when I got home with my order today I was very disappointed to see that the foil didn't fully cover my lettuce-wrapped burger so I had some of the toppings in the bag, as they had fallen out. I had a really difficult time getting the burger out of the bag without losing everything on the burger (the fries all filled in the bag made this extra challenging). Somehow I managed to get it mostly in one piece. When I got it out and started attempting to eat this, it was by far the messiest lettuce wrap I've been given. The lettuce was shredded in places and didn't even cover all the burger. I unfortunately ended up losing a fair amount of toppings and burger pieces to the table and floor during this process of getting it out of the bag and then trying to get it together enough to eat it. The burger itself tasted fine -- it's what I would expect from a Five Guys burger so no complaints there. I was just particularly disappointed in the poor wrapping of the lettuce and the foil that was supposed to be keeping the burger and toppings together. I'm not sure yet if I'm brave enough to try this location again. The bonus with Five Guys is that you can order online in advance via their website, but I don't feel like that's enough to keep me going there when there's a Nations nearby and an In-in-Out just farther down the street (and with both of those establishments I've never had issues with ordering a lettuce wrapped burger). Too bad the Concord location is a drive for me now, but that location is so slow at getting orders ready that maybe the 15 minute drive wouldn't matter much. read more

My husband and son are big on burgers. My daughter isn't. So when the guys want to go to Five Guys, my daughter and I head over to Chipotle nearby and we usually meet up at Five Guys and eat outside. This is what we've done weather permitting. This way, everyone is happy. So I've been to Five guys many times but not eaten their food. We went last night and it was cold and rainy. My daughter was up for a burger. I ordered a hamburger all the way and jalapenos and green peppers. I forgot that regular burgers have 2 patties. The buns kept falling apart and didn't hold up at all. And the 2 patties was just too much food for me. I should have had the little burger instead. I don't remember seeing the 2 patties on the menu. I must have missed that somehow. Three of us shared the little fries which was more than enough. We even had some leftover. The 2 huge ketchup containers were running very low. I prefer In-n-Out but this was alright. It was close to where we were so it worked out. Five Guys reminds me of Nations but I actually think Nations actually tastes better. They have better buns that hold up well. But I like sautéed mushrooms on my burger and Five Guys has them but Nations doesn't. The floors were slippery last night. During COVID, my family and I tried lots of new different places. This was one on our list. I had very low expectations because at the time my favorite burger place was In and Out. After I tried this place, my expectations changed to say the least. The burgers themselves are the most delicious thing in the world. A perfectly crisp bun with amazingly melted cheese that drove my taste buds crazy. The fries are also amazing. The spicy ones are amazing and even though I am not a big fan of hot foods, these fries are not so overpowering that they leave my mouth burning but are powerful enough that they pack a great kick. It took awhile, but the new Five Guys Burger and Fries has finally opened in Downtown Pleasant Hill at the former location of Fat Burger. And now that Jack's (across the street) seems to be fully operational inside and out, it's nice to see all these people around and the associated buzz. Perhaps this commercial promise will extend to the fairly quiet business area between the burger joynt and the parking structure. I ordered a Cheeseburger "All The Way", which was not only delicious and fresh, but was more than my single mouth could handle. I also appreciated the free peanuts while I waited. Customer service at the counter and on the floor was also friendly and accommodating. On the other hand, between the background music, the happy customers, and the gaggle of workers yelling out this and that, I may limit my future visits to takeout. It's just too noisy and distracting to have a simple conversation or to really relax. A cold draft beer to go with all of this would be nice too, and a good IPA at home should do the trick. read more

WOW! it opened today and of course i was there to finally experience this east coast burger. it was awesome and is truly so much better than any in n out burger i have ever had. it's no no val's burgers but it's damn good for a well done burger! i took my dad and he's very picky but he loved it and even compared it to a val's. Five Guys - THE BEST!! - Burgers Near Me - Pleasant Hill, California

I found Five-guys burgers to be a tad bit overrated --- as I would expect many five-guys patrons too to feel about in-n-out. I expected quite a lot from the oft-mentioned Cajun fries but it's delivery was as flaccid as the fries themselves. While I do like the seasoned Cajun fries, I thought the fresh fries at in-n-out had better texture *when fresh* --- the latters' fries are fried straight from a freshly peeled potato so they don't hold up to the textural standard of what most expect from "french fries"; but if you, like me, grew up with freshly fried potatoes at home, you will definitely appreciate the difference in flavour and aroma of potatoes straight from the frying-pan as opposed to the twice-fried-flash-frozen-french-fries. Coming to the burger, it was a no-brainer for me; I preferred In-n-out for two reasons --- (a) my personal preference for a simple no-frill burger, and (b) the quality of the bun itself. (a) I like my burger with lettuce, onion, tomato without the popular fixings of cheese, mushrooms, pickles, avocado etc (at many places) which makes the burger runny and unmanageable --- equal time is spent at holding it together as is spent at actually eating and trying to enjoy it (b) The bun here looked all squished up like it was sitting at the bottom of a full grocery bag (as many a photos here will attest to). It couldn't hold up to all the sauce and moisture inside, and got mushy and fell apart. (The in-n-out buns comes out perfect, lightly grilled and slightly crunchy on the outside, but soft inside.) Although it's almost twice the price of an in-n-out for a standard burger-fries-soda combo, it's still not all that expensive. And the burger here is bigger. read more

I love how you can get a variety of toppings on your burger and not pay extra. I also like how you can snack on peanuts while you wait! The burgers are delicious. Good? Yes, but not as amazing as I anticipated based on how excited people were when this place opened. First of all, service was great. The young man at the cash register answered my questions before I could even ask them. We ordered our burgers - a little cheeseburger with mayo, tomato and jalapenos for me, a regular bacon cheeseburger with the works for him and a regular cajun fries to share. I really like that toppings are all free. The little cheeseburger was the perfect amount of food for me. I wouldn't have been able to finish the regular. However, I was underwhelmed with both their burgers AND their fries! I needed a quick and cheap dinner to go, so I ventured in. I entered an empty restaurant, and had a few minutes to look at the menu while I told the cashier that this was my first visit. He explained that a unique element at Five Guys is that you could choose as many of their 15 toppings to add on top of the burger, for free! No frills, no "special sauce" to mask the flavor of the BEEF like they do at in n out. The quality and the freshness of the ingredients are really great too! I love their fries, so delicious, although the cajun fries aren't really cajun-y. You can def. go without and I preferred the non cajun fries. A small order of fries go a LONG way because the fill the cup with fries and they pretty much add another serving inside of your brown paper bag. The standard has 2 patties, just a warning. I didn't know so I ended up with a monstrous burger with all the fixin's with added hot sauce and jalapenos. I work at Century Theaters, it's across the street from this place and me and some of the workers have been waiting for this place to open. I came here for my lunch break I was happy that there was no huge line. The guy who took my order was a sweetheart and asked me how my work was, very nice and went to check the back to see what kind of soda they had. I was so happy that they had Pibb! I ordered the little hamburger w/relish (A regular hamburger has 2 patties and a little hamburger has 1 patty // They have different types of toppings) It was like $3+ something and I got a regular soda so my total was $6+ I waited a bit, it wasn't packed at all when I was waiting. The atmosphere felt kind of off for me, it felt like it was still in it's preparation process. I got my burger. I was surprised when I had my 1st bite, it tasted like a burger you can have at a bbq. My bun was toasted, which I like. My co worker was telling me that he got the regular burger and said it was really greasy (he said if he squeezed the burger all the grease would have came out). I was happy mine wasn't greasy, just a bit, but not like his. Really a 3.5. Better than In-n-Out? It's really hard for me to make the comparison. 5 Guys is pretty expensive, but with more options for add-ons. In-n-Out is very affordable, with limited options (even with the secret menu). Both establishments make great burgers, and money aside, either of them would have my business. Maybe a point of comparison is the fries. 5 Guys' fries are thicker, with good salty-peppery flavor, reminiscent of the great fries I used to always get at Islands restaurant in SoCal. In-n-Out's fries are plain, but available in soggy, normal and crispy, with an animal-style option if your already clogged heart so desires. Either way, you'll get fat in the process. read more

Dont believe the hype. We've been spoiled with In n Out Burgers in the West Coast. So much that this East Coast hype of this place really falls short. The burgers remind me of Fatburger or Wendy's meat. Its nice that they offer grilled mushroom and onions. Where did my review go, Yelp? I was the first to review -- boo! I've been to Five Guys twice now, and have to say the food is mighty good! Although it doesn't compare to In n Out, it is a solid burger, and satisfies the cravings well enough. There are plenty of options for toppings, and the burger tastes fresh and juicy. The only gripe: their buns suck. They claim that the buns are toasted, but they are very soft and cold, so it throws off the rest of the burger. On my second trip there last night, I asked them to toast the buns well. They only half listened, and toasted the inside of the buns well, leaving the outside soft. The inside just soaked up all the condiments, so I was still left with a soggy bun. The fries are ok. They are very soft, but I do like their cajun seasoning. I asked for the fries to be well done as well, but they came out soggy like the first time. I do like that the portions are huge, and I think three people can really share the regular size fries. Will I be back? Yes, considering the options for a good grilled fast food burger are few and far in this area. But if In n Out opens up around here, I wouldn't say I'd frequent this place as much. The hot dog was grilled and there is a long list of things you can add to the dog and this is a real plus. I really appreciated that the pickles were slices rather than spears and the onions were nicely grilled. It was just what I wanted in a hot dog. My family loves this burger place! You start off with free peanuts while you wait for your order. We'll normally get the little bacon cheeseburgers (because we don't really need double patties), but my 2 teenage sons will get the double patties. We'll get an order of cajun seasoned fries and another regular order - and it will be more than enough to share for a family of 5. The great thing about this place is that you get to choose your toppings from 1 item to everything - and it's all included in the price free! August 4 I've never ate at five guys everybody says it's so good should be called the -5 two little thin patties of meat the burgers are sides of sliders and they want $9.49 for the burger I figured I was going to get A good size burger order fries regular fries you do get a lot of fry's the point I'm getting at is nine dollars for a burger five bucks for fries with a little tip 1740 not going there again I don't even know how they stay in business the burger didn't even have no flavor I get more flavor out of Safeway meat!!! read more

Pretty good, pretty pricey. Portions are averaged sized. Got a regular cheeseburger with mushrooms. It was really soft and gushy in every bite. I like it like that! There was lots of flavor in every bite. The fries were fresh and crisp served in a cup. Unlimited peanuts! YUM! I could munch away... It's like a better, more expensive version of In-N-Out. read more

At the Pleasant Hill location. This place is filthy!!! No Air conditioner in the summer heat. No thanks, won't be back.

Let's start with the disclaimer that I'm not a fast-food fan. I dig burgers, and I'll eat 'em, but this is not a review written by a huge burger aficionado. I think this place is on par with or slightly better than (yes, I said better than) In and Out. I liked: free toppings they put on FOR you, Coke Zero on their soda offerings, their Cajun flavoring on their fries, and the ample outdoor seating. Other than that it seemed like very quick but standard burger joint. I thought the burger (it had 2 patties) was HUGE and intensely filling when compared to comparable burger places. Absolutely worth a try if you're near one and or you love burgers. Oh, their fries kicked the SH*T out of In and Out's. read more
