Until IN n OUT Burger arrives in Seattle, this is going to be the reigning burger joint! I do love Dick's Drive in, but I just don't think it can compete at the same level as a Five Guys. You have to try the burgers here, they are sooo flavorful. I find that the small version is enough food for me. If you're a burger fan, you'll enjoy this place. At the Renton location, parking is usually pretty easy to find on the street. The wait isn't long, self service sodas and free peanuts. read more

It's a little out of the way to go for a burger, but they are tasty. Better than the new Angus burgers from McDonald's, and cheaper, too! The patties are thick and juicy. We got the small hamburgers with an order of fries. The smalls are definitely a fine size. Don't bother with bigger unless you are absolutely starving. Altogether it was $11. Loads of fries, and they're like the kind I get down the ocean back home. They're a little on the soft side, so it depends on if you like them like that or not. Flavor--the lettuce is shredded, so that makes it messier. In addition, the grilled mushrooms aren't quite grilled, so I wouldn't recommend them. They're still rubbery. The tomatoes are really fresh. For those trying to find it, old GPS maps and Google don't work properly. Use Bing instead and it has the right spot. It got really crowded after we were almost done eating, but it seems like the flow about matches the seats, so I don't think you should have trouble finding a spot. 4 stars because it's good, but doesn't completely wow me. Sadly, we don't have In-N-Out in Seattle, but yay to having FIVE GUYS! My favorite thing about this place: You get to choose what's on your burger. I looove loading mine. I usually get the cheeseburger with mayo, onions, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, jalapenos, A-1 sauce and hot sauce. Soooo goood and juicy with cheese melting right off the patty. Their fries are pretty good - made from freshly cut potatoes. I also like their variety of fountain drinks. Service is always good here. The people are friendly and cheerful. It was my second time here but my first time trying the food. I came here a week or so earlier on a food delivery mission for a friend of mine that was working close by and "starving to death!" I wasn't hungry at the time and I had dinner plans so I gladly executed the "little cheese" recon. It's almost an article of faith: Rapid Growth + Geographic Spread = Lower Quality. It ALWAYS happens. Except to Five Guys Burgers and Fries. This past Saturday evening, August 1st, we went to the first Washington location, in Renton's "The Landing" shopping center, and had what can only be called a red-letter experience. In eighteen years in the Seattle area, I've had MAYBE three hamburgers that I thought were even a fair approximation of the sort of burgers I used to eat in other parts of the country. The formula is childishly simple but almost NO ONE does it: substantial patty with adequate fat content (25-30%), bun that actually tastes like something, fresh condiments, proper cooking, served HOT. And that's what we got at 5 Guys. Their beef is high in fat, yes, but unless you're likely to start eating at 5 Guys every night of the week, I can't for the life of me see why you'd care. 5 Guys is a TREAT and should be approached as such. Theor modified "build your own" concept is as intelligent as any I've ever seen: One patty or two, choose any or all of about a dozen condiments, price broken down by just patties and bacon and cheese. Fries are extra, a modest range of other stuff available. That's IT. I ordered two patties with bacon and cheese and was stunned to find three wide, thick, generous slices of nicely crisped, hickory-smoked bacon, instead of the paper-thin "value bacon" I've become accustomed to seeing. The flavor of the deep, rich, satisfying beef came roaring through my range of condiments. The lettuce was crackling fresh, the pickles were garlic dills, and the onions were sweet Spanish yellows. Nothing was laid on with a heavy hand; no padding out with lettuce to make the sandwich look substantial, ala the late-unlamented Daly's. No quart glop of mayo. Just a nicely-balanced, thoughtful, properly applied group of condiments that offered all the flavors in every bite. The cooking and prep line was a model of efficiency, with the cooks constantly talking and communicating about the orders and their expediter organizing and moving service along. Their line isn't all tarted up with the wretched excess of unnecessary bins and trays and shelves you see in most fast-food operations. Steel table, minimal clutter, easy preparation. The food gets to you HOT, which is really half the battle. My ONLY hesitation at all was - as usual for me - the bun. 5 Guys does the standard deli-wrap thing of that foil-paper hybrid that allegedly keeps the moisture in but soaks up the excess into the paper. It DOES NOT work and I wish restaurants would quit insisting that it does. 5 Guys would be FAR better served to put the sandwich into a large, lined deli boat and serve it unwrapped, for eat-in orders. It isn't going to get cold between the counter and the table but it WILL get soggy that fast. My bun fell apart before I ever got the sandwich out of the wrapper. The bun tasted good when I did get it to my mouth - that, in itself, a rarity on the order of the narwahl whale - but a little thinking would have prevented the one and only sour note in an otherwise wonderful evening. The last two burgers on our Burger of The Month search could scarcely have been more different. Jak's, a restaurant I love for fine-dining entrees, left me completely cold with their over-thought, under-realized steakhouse burger. I ate it, it tasted okay, and I left thinking: Meh. Convinced the amazing Razzle Dazzle of the Riss & Delilah Show to try Five Guys after Ms. D complained of ravenous hunger for the 5th time. It is now 4 1/2 hours since we ate there, and not only am I still full (can barely sip down this dos equis that I secretly like), but am viciously fighting off a massive food coma. I think I'm going down for the count after this review. For serious. Burger was great, fries were great. Employees were WICKED LOUD. I was intrigued by the Mello Yello soda option as I vaguely recalled it from childhood (shoulda skipped it. It's like a stronger, more lemony, less fizzy Mountain Dew) but was very happy to see the Gold Peak iced tea. The cashier (Jessica) was very nice and asked if I had been to Five Guys before. She then proceeded to explain all the deets about the number of patties and condiment selection. I think I technically like Dick's fries better, but only because they arrive properly salted and in perfect portion size to the burger. I started hearing rumblings about this place a couple of years ago that FG was starting to rival In N Out - so naturally, as an INO disciple I had to try it. You may think I am biased, and maybe so, but FG is no INO - not even close. The fries were horrible, just soggy, limp pieces of potato. These guys, five guys, do it right in my book, titled "guys and gals do it right." The details have all been hashed out: tons and tons o' fries with a 'regular' order-in a 12 ounce cup and then they scoop in some more. The burgers are a lot of eatin-and you get to choose what they put on it, including choices like grilled onions, hot sauce, and jalapenos, along with your standard fare. Aside from the taste of the food, very fresh, I really like a couple of the little things 5 guys does. The restaurant itself, while not the most aesthetically pleasing, red and white checkers, is simple and not overdone. I love that they add the sourcing info on their "spuds,"-hand cut-nice! and like the fact that they're semi sustainable, not using trays (add some recycling options, guys, and you've gone another step! The line was long, so my curiosity got the better of me. After eating there, I have no idea why there was a line. The good news was the line went fast, everything else is the bad news. A lightly 50's themed fast food greasy spoon. Small and cramped the floor was dirty as were the tables and chairs. It was loud and not as fun as one might expect a 50's theme to be. The burger was room temperature, over salted and boring. The bun was fresh and good but I wasn't there for a soft bun. The fries were soggy like the lard vat was in desperate need of a change. The condiment counter was a disaster and mostly empty. The soda fountain only had a couple taps that were working properly. When I asked for some ketchup, it was clearly an great inconvenience for the girl at the counter. I was entirely unimpressed by the whole experience. I have had far better and slightly worse. It wasn't good enough to ever go back to on purpose and not so bad I would pass up if it was the only place open at 2am and I was starving for a burger. Five Guys is a step up from McDonald's and a step down from Lunchbox Lab. It's great in what it does, providing good food for a reasonable price and speedy time. I'm a fan of their Cajun fries, be careful because it has a lot of flavors and can become quickly addicting. The atmosphere is decor like an old diner with their signature color being red. I must say, I have not tried their burgers yet to give an actual critic on them, but their hot dog is delicious. It's also great that you can put unlimited amount of condiments and toppings for no additional charges! I first went to Five Guys before I had really started hearing much about it, so, thankfully, I had pretty much no expectations going in. A burger is a burger as far as I'm concerned. I just had Five Guys this past Saturday. The meat is thick and juicy but the burger overall is very sloppy. The buns were soggy and mushy, the fillings were good though. The fries were really boring and soft (both versions). Taste-wise it was above average, but the whole experience was a downer. In-n-Out still gets my vote for best 'fast' burger; too bad they aren't in the area. The way Five Guys just toss everything into a bag with no thought makes it a mess as well. Burger is pretty good. Not Amazing, but good. The best thing I like about this place is that you can order additional toppings FREE. I didn't try to ask for double anything else but I was able to get about 8 extra toppings on there. Aside note, I did notice that the jalapenos they used where REAL) The burger was about $7 ish. Fries must be ordered separately. The bill for my friend and I came to about $16 which included 2 burgers and a fry. They have this tiny water cup they put fries in but you get way more than that. What it seems they do is fill that little fry cup up with fries and then take a handful and then toss them in the bag. So when you get your food you have to sift through all the fries to get to your burger. It's a good thing you get a nice amount of fries but I wish they put it in a larger container. The fries were good, I just wish they had larger fries so I didn't get so many of the d*** little burnt crispy nothings that come at the bottom of your bag. Five Guys can't touch Seattle's Dick's. If you're going strictly on size, well Five Guys have it. But when you eat some Dick's you know you're getting something special the minute you put it in your mouth. Whether you want the Deluxe or the Special, either one gets you their special sauce that makes it taste so good. And we're talking about burgers folks, that's it. I had the bacon cheeseburger with "everything" or "all the way" which is mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickle, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. Sounds great. Looked great. Tasted fresh but that's about it. I couldn't taste the onions or mushrooms which was a surprise to me. I wanted desperately to like this burger but really came away full but not feeling like it satisfied my burger craving. All I could really think was "I wish we went to get some Dick's Deluxes instead". We also ordered a large order of Cajun Fries. Like many of the other reviews state, the order was huge. I probably should have stuck to the regular size because we couldn't finish the large. They were fresh cut and the right consistency but again, the flavor was lacking. I think maybe they gave us regular fries and not the Cajun ones because if this is how their Cajun tastes, the regular ones must taste like air. There was nothing to them just a lot of them. Two bacon burgers, a large order of fries and a regular soda came out to $19. The price and lack of flavor made this visit disappointing particularly after reading all the great reviews. I'd like to say I'd try it again but I just can't see myself going here when there's a Red Robin two blocks away where I can order me a beer for about the same price. The seating is limited which makes navigating through the throngs of people pretty tough. And we found a seat by the soda dispenser area and they have this "tradition" of people drawing with crayon on little index card sized paper and posting it on some corkboard. To me, it was a bit unnecessary and it was also annoying since we sat right by where the crayons were located an people were reaching over us to get the crayons. Seriously...put it somewhere where patrons won't have to deal with kids (and adults) who don't have the decency to not reach over people and over their food. We love a great burger and fresh fries. What we had to put up with to get there was unbelievable. We happily stood in line 12/26/12 at 1:16pm for 10 minutes to place our order. They are busy so its understandable. When we got to the register Caprice the cashier had a tantrum. We stood there for a second as she said to us, "I just want to slam my head onto the counter." I looked at her and then my husband as if to say "wtf is going on right now?". She Then said, "My manager won't let me go on break because I'm the only cashier. I'm so over this. I'm about to walk out and not come back. I'm a college student. I'm better than this." I pretended to not hear her and placed my order. I worried that it was going to be to difficult for her and I made it quick. They opened at 11:00am. It was 1:26pm. Caprice is a typical selfish employee. What a horrible face at the register representing the store. Everyone could hear her tantrum and the manager did nothing. She was working the prep area. The food was good. I felt weird and just wanted to leave. I pray she walked out and never came back. read more
