I went back after a referee mentor session in Rockford. I was thinking why should I settle for a regular burger joint, when I could have FIVE GUYS? Yeah, I'm that hooked. I dropped in - this is next to Mission BBQ - RESIST - and have FIVE GUYS. The decor hasn't changed, they still have the peanuts as you walk in, they still make the food and fries fresh. I had the Classic Combo with cheese and a small fry. They still add more FRIES to the bag. I loved the food it was just so good. Insane prices. Almost $30 for 1 meal. That's Insanity and nothing but corporate greed. They give much smaller portions of fries now too. Just overall has gone completely down hill and who is paying these prices when you could go other places running deals for $5-10 for the same thing. I've heard people raving about Five Guys. I've heard people rant about Five Guys. Personally, I think they are okay. It's just another fast food burger place that thinks their burgers are something unique and better than anyplace else's. The biggest thing about these burgers is the size. A regular burger is two patties, so if you don't want a gut busting burger, get a small one. It's only one patty. Also be careful with the fries. You don't need a larger. They fill up the fry container and then dump an extra scoop into the bag. This leaves you with a greasy bag, but hey. If you're worried about grease, you aren't eating here. While you are waiting, they have peanuts you can snack on. Because the jumbo burgers and the obnoxious amount of fries aren't enough to fill you up. So you can gorge on peanuts beforehand. The prices of the burgers are going to be higher than some McWendy King, but they are better quality burgers. Service is hit and miss depending on time of the day and how busy it is. read more

Pretty impressed with their burgers here. I ended up getting the little baclkn cheeseburger vs the regular one. The main difference is that the little has 1 burger patty. It was still a good size burger. The toppings are all free. I got mine, "All the way," which consisted of all the toppings that were in black & I added jalapenos. I didn't realize the jalapenos were raw, so my burger definitely had a kick to it! I ended having to take a couple of them out so I can enjoy the flavors of my burger instead of it just being spicy. My fiance & I ended up just sharing a regular size of cajun fries, which was more than enough. I honestly feel like the fries would have probably fed close to 4 people, so it's easily shareable. I sure do love me some Five Guys! It is such a cheerful place, decorated all in bright red and stark white checkerboard with cheerful music playing and free all you can eat peanuts. My friend Tyoni and I stopped in for a quick lunch here after teaching a dance class. We split a hamburger and an order of small fries and were both too full to grab ice cream afterwards. Five Guys has a great concept, you order the burger of your choice and then add any toppings you like. It's a build-your-own- burger joint and whatever combination you order comes out quickly and done just right, not too greasy and not overcooked. Simple and good. Worst meal ever! $28 down the tubes. Ordered two burgers and two fries for delivery with Grubhub. An hour later when the food arrived the bag was one big grease spot because one of the fry orders was in a cup, the other had just been dumped in the bag. Both burgers had such soggy buns they were completely inedible. I wasn't planning on a carb free meal. Bun less I mean. I will never order from there again. I'm a huge fan of A1, and it pleases me that they have a ready supply. - Shouldn't go hungry if you're a 16 year old kid. Large fry portions is enough to feed two teenage dudes. - Free peanuts. Hey its a plus. - They have the fun Coke machine with the ridiculous number of combinations. - Site was clean, service was friendly and quick. Cons: - In terms of a burger joint is is a little pricier. Extras add up quick here. - Not much in terms of options here. Pretty much every person in your group will have to be in the mood for burgers and fries. There's not too much else to work with. - If you do take out, your burgers will be a little beat up. A tad of a soggy mess when you get them home. Bottom Line: - Good enough to the point I won't actively avoid the place, but not fantastic enough to the point I'll come running here. Tried this place out for lunch today. Feels like the Jimmy Johns of burgers. Space inside was crowed at lunch which is made more infuriating when there are mounds of potato bags sitting about. Too cramped for me. Also, didn't seem like the manager was keeping up with the noon rush very well. As for the food...meh, it's okay. Fries are fresh cut and only fried once, kinda like homemade. Burgers are typical little beef patties (2 to a burger, probably made two thinner patties to cut down on cook time) like you'd see cooked on a flat top. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Serving sizes are beyond healthy, which should make most Rockfordians happy. Look to spend $10/person for a burger, drink & fries (1 regular fry = two people). By far a better choice than the big chains though. read more

Always get it "all the way" and just discovered a great compliment to the fries. This is my favorite burger joint in town. The employees are truly friendly, and always extra fries are given ( which I do not need but do appreciate ) the burgers are kind of greasy but one hundred percent I would recommend this place over any other in Rockford . Also, for those with celiac like me, they have Coke products ( all GF) and lettuce wraps in substitution for buns. The fries are also cooked in their own vat so there's no cross-contamination. Burgers, like I've said on other reviews, are a staple of american cuisine. If they are done right they can be amazing, but sadly most places make a mediocre burger and top it with flare hoping to entice the palette-less customer. The burgers are good here and the ability to make it exactly the way you want it with the great selection of toppings is amazing. Their burgers are good, not great, but good. Definitely give them a try and I know I only gave them a 3 star rating but I'm just not excited enough to go back more than once every couple months. I recruited my dad to go with me to Five Guys because people kept telling me how great it is. Everyone seemed to have been there, except us....and the family who was ahead of us in line. The woman turned to me and said, "I know they've been on TV and everything, but this seems kind of pricey for a burger and fries...." I was fine with the price because I expected to be wowed by the burger. Dad was fine with the price because I was buying. I liked being able to get a choice of toppings on my burger. The burger itself was very good, but just not distinctive. Dad and I both thought the fries were excellent, but we were not impressed by the quantity. I'd been warned "Go easy on the fries, don't order a large, it's crazy how many fries you get, you won't believe it!" So we split a regular order. It was about right for two, but not excessive. The one in Rockford SUCKS. I walked in and the floors were so greasy you could literally skate to the counter. I could see there was a long line in front of me but it moved fast enough. Off to the side, about a dozen people were waiting for their orders. I bided my time by sliding around on the grease rink. But after 35 minutes i felt this was long enough for fast food and asked for a refund which i got. We have had their food in the past and it was good but this time it was dirty and the service was horrible. Oh and the only have coke products. Im a white man. I went there last night with my parents. Our order of a cheeseburger, little cheeseburger, grilled cheese, 3 medium drinks, and a large fry (which was plenty for 3) came to just under $25. The burger that I had was good. I won't go as far as great because it totally didn't blow me away. I do like the variety of "free" toppings that you get to choose from for your burgers. I just wished that the grilled onions were not the diced onions and instead the nicer uncut onions still in their ring form. The fries were pretty good. Definitely closer to the fries that you can make at home (in your fry daddy) if you want to take the time to do so. The environment is- right when you walk in you get in queue to order. After you order, you can stand or sit while waiting on your food. When your order number is called it all comes in a big brown paper bag. It's up to you if you want to stay and eat or take your bag and leave. I gave two stars for this place because, quite frankly, I have experienced better. WORTH THE 45 minute drive from Freeport! My beau and I went there today (my first time) and his dad said he didn't like it... What's NOT to like?! Are you kidding me??? Burgers were flipping amazing, the fries were on point! And the atmosphere was great! We saw this place while traveling in Florida and always passed it up. When one came to town I finally broke down and gave it a try. WOW! I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. The burgers remind me of my grandma making burgers in the pan .. love them. Simple burger, made the way you want it made .. great taste. You will always get more fries than you can possibly eat. I am not a fry person but my husband is and even he can't eat all of their fries. The kids love that they can snack on peanuts (even though they don't need a snack with the size of the "little" burgers) and even leave a drawing on the corkboard after the meal. This is Obama's favorite burger joint? I don't understand why. Like, not even for the price would I understand why. This chain has gotten many accolades but I don't really see the big deal. The food is mostly enjoyable but it's much too expensive. I payed about $8 for a burger with two thin patties, cheese, and bacon on it. It's not like it tastes like its a premium burger - I would then understand the price. But, to me, this is just slightly better than Burger King. Payed about $3 for a regular size order of fries. They're good but I'd be just fine with getting a LARGE order of fries from McDonald's for $2. Then the drinks are a little more than $2, or something similar. For three people to eat, it was about $34. A burger, fries, and a drink for each. Oh, and that's pretty much it for the menu. A couple more variations of fries and burgers, and there's your entire menu. It would be fine if they did what they did well enough for me to understand why the place costs so much money. It's not particularly great atmosphere - a generic 50's diner looking place, kinda. The soda machine is the fancy one with the touch screen and bonus drink options that you can't usually find, but you can find this same machine at Burger King or Wendy's, Go somewhere else instead. It's too pricey for the quality. I think I would only pay $4 or $4.50 for that $8 burger. read more
