Five Guys Burgers and Fries is my guilty pleasure of burger joints. I can taste the extra fat, calories and cholesterol that comes with it but wow is it a good burger! This is a small location but with a terrible parking situation. Customer service was pleasant and professional. Prices are fair and I you definitely get what you pay for. I really like the options they have available (make your burger 99 different ways it seems like). My only complaint with this Five Guys is my complaint with the whole company in general, the food is too fattening! As great as it is to eat here, I would very much appreciate healthier ingredients and/or options. Overall, I like Five Guys. I typically only venture here if I'm on a "vacation diet" but if you enjoy a good tasting burger, then definitely try it out! I'm unfortunately going to have to go with a no on this one. So I work in restaurants and for the last year or so all I hear is about how well five Guys is doing. I am a big burger fan, but unfortunately this place just didn't do it for me. I was real excited when they opened a few minutes away from my house because I knew this would bring me to finally try it. Last weekend I was headed home with thoughts of food in my head as I approached Five Guys and decided... what the heck. Now as far as service I will give the 4-5 stars. The girl who took my order was VERY friendly and accommodating. This rating is 100% for the food and brand. I order a regular cheeseburger and a small cheeseburger for my significant otra. I also ordered two orders of fries (one regular and one Cajun). I drove home (about 5 minutes away) and I was real disappointed that first that the fries were cold and flimsy. I am realistic, I didn't expect them to be piping hot after a drive home. I did expect just a little better than what I got though. Now onto the burger. It was very greasy (which I expected and don't hold that against them, just mentioning for readers who don't know what they are getting). Overall I just felt the burger lacked flavor. It just tasted like under flavored meat on a bun that was falling apart. I think they have the condiments down. You can get pretty much anything you want. I admit that I have a bit of a prejudice against any establishment that needs to tell me over and over and bang it into my head how 'wonderful' they are long before I have a chance to experience it for myself. The restaurant is chock full of postings on their 'awards' on their burgers, fries, etc. Me, I was much less than impressed. If you make a big deal about it, then you're pretty much going to be judged on that scale. I'll avoid things like restaurant layout, rudeness of the staff, etc. well, not rude...they just really didn't seem to want to be there at all. Exciting! Right on to the food: They've won multiple awards for their fries. I wonder "How?" The fries were plentiful, yes...but soggy...and rather tasteless in that soggy but undercooked potato sort of way. I probably could have done well to snag some mayo and other condiments, cut up the fries, and made an interesting potato salad...but as fries go? I ate mabye 1/4 of them and threw the rest away. Fully gross. They have these neet newfangled soda machines with digital selection of the product you want. In the Coca Cola category, they have Cherry, Vanilla, Lime, Orange, and a host of others. Me? I drink just regular Coke. That's it. But it didn't taste like Coke. It tasted like Coke with a touch of cerry, vanilla, lime, orange, etc, etc, etc....again: Gross. The burger was overly greasy. usually that's not a problem - I'm not eating a burger because I'm looking for a fabulous way to get good clean protein & calories - I want a BURGER. This was, lackluster. Worse, the condiments were in globs...so my first 1/2 of the burger had no taste of mayo, and the last half was just about all mayo. I would normally give this place 2 stars, but if they want to tell me how wonderful they are, I have to knock them off a point for their advertising: Just market it as a burger, and we're fine. Market it as this multi award winning burger & fries and it sucks that bad, you're gonna git ding'd. Avoid this place. I have been a long time user of yelp, but have never written a review until now. This is the first time I have felt so strongly about an experience that I had to share it with other yelpers. This place gets 2 stars for its fabulous soda machine (the only good thing about the joint) - it has every type f soda that you can think of and even some you have never seen like orange and strawberry Fanta zero!! The burgers taste like they came from a backyard BBQ grill at your friends house - you are better off going to In N Out where you will spend less for a much better deal. We paid for 2 orders of fries, received only one and even though the cashier apologized and promised me that another order was coming, we were done with our burgers and there was still no sign of them. When I asked for my money back, there was no sign of a manager and no apology. Don't waste your money - go to In N Out instead. read more

I'm a huge fan of Five Guys Burgers but this location makes the sloppiest burgers. *Is it a burger or a ketchup and mustard sandwich? They need to ease up on the ketchup. I saw the guy put it on my burger and he was squeezing the bottle for like 40 seconds!! Ketchup dripping out the sides of the burger; its all I can taste! *Cheese not melty- Maybe they should put the cheese on the patty while its still cooking. Duh! *Freezing cold toppings - this contributes to the rigid cheese. It also makes the burger get cold quickly. The lettuce, onions, and tomato (and ketchup and mustard) are freezing cold. I was stoked about this location opening up as its the closest Five Guys to my house. But there is a reason it remains deserted. Once in a while I get a bad craving for burgers. Sort of how teenage girls crave shiny vampires and crappy romance books. Five Guys is a place that can fill the void that craving needs. Pretty simple menu but if you haven't been there before, be warned, the regular burger comes with two patties. I got the bacon cheese burger and Cajun fries that had a little kick. I also liked that you can pick all your toppings while you order. Make sure you check out the futuristic soda machine and while you wait, grab yourself some peanuts to tide you over. read more

its funny to me that this place has mixed reviews. I have been on an epic journey the last few months trying to find the best burgers in San Diego. This journey started when a buddy took me to the "Burger Lounge" After that i went on to "crazy burgers" From there i moved over to "smash burgers" Then a few days later it was 5 guys. I agree...peanuts? that wasnt a big draw. They do give ample good tasting fries. And the burgers? its like i was looking for them all my life and didnt know it. I would not consider this health food. The food was excellent, service was not bad, but what I hated about my experience was the extremely loud music inside the restaurant. You had to YELL for the associate to hear you behind the counter and he had to YELL back. This made for a not so good experience. My friend and I would have sat outside the restaurant where it was quieter, but the tables were very dirty, and if we had sat outside, we would have been constantly accosted by homeless people. They have really good food at this location (those french fries were incredible), but having the music in the foreground rather than the background really makes the hustle and bustle of In-N-Out relaxing, compared to this location. Even with my friend across the table, I was having to lip read than try to hear what he was saying! "Five Guys" is a generally good experience, but not good enough for me to come back for a second time. Just noticed this location yesterday and finally gave in and decided to try it. Five guys kind of reminds me of In-N-Out: the decor and the style in which the burgers and fries are made- natural ingredients...not mystery ingredients like many of the fast food burger joints. The food portions are HUGE..and greasy. The paper bag that my burger and fries came in was doused with grease stains. The grease was a little harsh on my stomach, so I don't know if I'll be coming back..Being gallbladderless, I don't want to make my body explode from poor choices. But I'm sure that if you have a normal, functioning body (unlike mine), you'll enjoy it much more that I did. Having said that, the burger and fries were very delicious though. The soda machine was pretty cool too. It was also a little pricey...especially for people like me who only can eat about half of the burger...are their kid options? read more

Like some other people, I had heard great things about Five Guys from friends who live in or had visited a branch in the Midwest. So I came here super excited with a few friends expecting some epic delicious burger feast. Bacon Double Cheeseburger (everything on it) and Cajun Fries came out to double digits, but again, excitement trumps reason. Burger was big, but pretty much flavorless. Everything just sort of mixed into a big, greasy (as opposed to its awesome cousin, juicy) mess. Fries were soggy and underwhelming too - below average stuff with generic cajun dust on top. I should point out that I'm not some anti-grease health nut, I usually love big fattening burgers loaded with sauce and burger juices. Even came back a few months later to see if it was just Grand Opening jitters, and got pretty much the same Meh-tasting burger. It's sort of sad to say, but I'd take an In-N-Out burger over a Five Guys one, even at the same price. And if I'm out to grab a good, i-feel-so-fat-right-now burger, I'd be going to Hodads anyways. Not only does five guys offer amazing food. The guys at this store are just on it! I've been to this location a few times. The workers are singing to the songs on the radio and having a good time! When customers are present, they give them full attention and go out of their way to deliver a great experience. One night I was crazy hungry after running. My wife and I drove aimlessly down the 94 thinking of something good to eat. We ended up leaving the east county and ordering dinner here online from our phones. I had only walked in the door, they looked at me and called my name, and said "your order is ready". This store is magic. First let me clarify that I'm writing this as a vegetarian. HOWEVER, I love burger joints. I also thought that with the myriad burger toppings I keep hearing about, that this place would be right up my alley. It was not. There weren't as many toppings to choose from as I expected (If you want lots of toppings choices, go to stacked). And while I enjoyed the sauteed mushrooms, the other toppings didn't seem very high quality. The bread tasted no better than a generic fast food bun. The cheese was so melty that half of it slid off into the wrapper. The order of fries was gigantic. They are obviously for sharing. I asked if they could do cheese fries. Nope. I asked if they had ranch dressing or anything besides ketchup for my fries. Nope. Hmph. The order taker seemed exasperated with me even though I explained that I'd never been there before and there was no one else in line. I didn't want to compare this to in n out, even though everyone does, but I couldn't help it. The bread at in n out is one of the best parts of the burger. The cheese is melted perfectly every time so it's not messy and the toppings are super fresh and delicious (and really, there aren't that many more toppings offered by five guys). The in n out staff is always amazingly friendly. They will put cheese and sauce (and hell, even caramelized onions) on my fries. A familiar spot from my home states of Pennsylvania and Delaware, and just as good as always! The burgers are amazing, and as always one order of fries is actually two or three! I highly recommend going with Cajun style for the fries, truly delicious. I place an order online, which was super easy, and made me feel confident that I would get exactly what I ordered. I drove over to pick up the order, and got a text from the misses exclaiming that she forgot to select bacon for her burger, a true crisis in my book! I was a few minutes early and noticed they had not completed the burgers yet, so I asked if they would be so kind as to add bacon, and that I would happily pay for it. The were more than happy to add the bacon, and to make it even better, they would not let me pay them for it! That is how you handle customer service, they earned a customer for life with such a small gesture. The staff was also very friendly as a whole, and really seemed to care about what they were doing. Restaurant was clean, and everything was stocked up and organized. I will certainly be coming back here again in the future. read more

The beef was unseasoned and bland and the fries were just ok. I would not recommend eating here unless you're not buying. Found a huge blonde-ish hair in my burger here. Before I get to that, I should go over a few things... I recently became a fan of Five Guys for their tasty, juicy burgers, limitless toppings, generous fry servings, and peanut offerings while you wait. I should preface that this review should not reflect Five Guys the franchise, but just this location in particular. This had been my third time ordering from this Five Guys. I used to go to the one at Liberty Station, and this University Ave location recently came to my attention and was much closer to where I live. First, I don't hold fast food burger joints to a very high standard for food presentation, but the burgers here look sloppy, and not in a good way. They are mushy with no structural integrity and often require assistance with a fork. I've seen the preparation of the burgers, and it's hastily done. They act like it's peak hour at In-N-Out when they have only a few customers to attend. There's no logic as to why the burger preparation is so rushed and mediocre. The straw that broke the camel's back and lead me to write this review was that I found a huge blonde-ish (~11-12 inch) hair in my hamburger in my most recent trip. If the last sentence didn't get the gross reaction, let me describe. I order my usual Little Hamburger with lettuce, tomato, mushroom, onion, ketchup, and bbq sauce. I order it to go, take it home, and get right to it. Two bites in, I chew on what I thought was an unusually stringy chunk of lettuce. Nope, it was a hair! Neatly curled inside the burger. So here I go, wrapping my tongue around this inedible part of my burger, and that's where I begin the grueling process of slowly pulling it out. My burger craving came to an abrupt end. It took me a while to get back any craving for food. I threw the burger out. I wrote this in lieu of taking the burger back (too lazy). If you really really love Five Guys, just keep an eye out for the burger preparation and inspect your food before eating it. I've fallen victim and will never go here again. read more

Not giving 5 stars since the place is a little pricey but as for fries go, I would say they have the best out of all the burger joints around! The burgers are not bad at all but the fries are what you'll keep coming back for. Peanuts are free and delicious and shakes quite tasty. They are equipped with fancy drink dispensers so you can customize your beverage. Same for burgers, "build your own" is the rule so give yourself a pad on the back if it's delicious and kick yourself in the butt if it's not! read more

On its worse day it is a 4-5 star place to get great service, burgers and fries that are not processed who knows what, and its every bit as fast as In and Out (for a place that always has a line, you gotta admit they rock that shit).... Idk what happened because normally the food is bomb. I got a regular cheeseburger and fries and noticed it smelled/tasted a bit off but didn't think anything of it. I've spent the last two days stuck in the bathroom. My guess is the produce that was used in the food, but, employees. Please make sure you wash your hands, use gloves, and check expiration dates especially if you are newer. If you don't know for sure if something should be used, ask. Ahhh Five Guys. I don't understand how people can compare FGs vs In-N-Out. First off I should mention that In-N-Out is just on another level compared to FGs but I'm not here to compare the two. As a stand alone review Five Guys is awesome. I love being able to customize my food and at a highly affordable price! The bacon burger I had was great but I have to say that the fries is what really shines at Five Guys. They are so good they should reconsider changing their name to Frie Guys! Anyhoos their friends are cooked in peanut oil which I think gives it just that much more flavor. The fries are seasoned to perfection. A lot of times you go to a burger joint and the fries are either overwhelming seasoned or not seasoned enough. At Five Guys they have their seasoning techniques down! Also the portions of the food are great here. You aren't skimped when it comes to the burger or the fries. Jeez a small fries was able to feed 4 grown ass guys. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that this location is kind of small so if you're going at peak hours I'd consider taking it to go as there isn't outside seating whatsoever. Burgers are decent but expensive compared to In-and-Out. Fries are good (better when they aren't incredibly hot) and are usually a good portion size. Love the free peanuts. Overall, kind of expensive for what you get and not many healthy options here. I do like that they offer iced tea. Wow. Just wow. Most of my reviews are service based - but for once I'm reviewing the food. It honestly was probably the best burger I've ever had. I got the "little bacon cheeseburger" (little meaning single patty, a regular burger has two) and I added ketchup mayonnaise grilled onions grilled mushrooms lettuce and tomato. Perfection. The burger was juicy, the bacon was crisp, and the produce was fresh. I ordered with the Cajun fries but frankly I bet the regular fries are better. The Cajun have a kick to them and are very, very salty and seasoned. Order a small fry if you're alone because they always overfill it as well as the bag. The service was good. Quick, efficient, and friendly. The cashier Janeth was knowledgable and was quick to give suggestions and opinions. The rest of the staff was alive and look as if they genuinely enjoy their job. There are seven bar tables and seven regular tables. I think a lot of people order ahead though and just take the food to go. Constantly people coming in and out. There are two single person bathrooms (one male one female) and the soda machines are the new coke ones with the different syrup flavors. If you're down for a good burger at restaurant taste, but fast food price and speed, come here. read more

I live in Orange County where there are Five Guys but this was my first time trying them. For $6+ for a cheeseburger, I originally thought, "Are you serious? I can get an In N' Out burger for half the price." But, for $6 there are more ingredients, more cheese, more patties. And it's well worth it. The cajun fries come in a big portion. The only complaint I have is, they're a bit soft. Service was great. One of the employees came by twice in 30 minutes to make sure we were satisfied with our meal, and asked if we needed anything. read more

After reading the hype by several Yelpers, I had to taste Five Guys burgers for myself. Upon walking inside I felt as though I had just stepped into an In-N-Out because of the red and white menu board and the checkered tiles on the walls. The menu was simple with the only choices being beef hamburger, cheeseburger, and of course burgers with the addition of bacon. As for your choice of sides, there was only a regular or large order of French fries and nothing else. In defense though, the French fries are thickly cut slices of whole potato and are fried in peanut oil. One other interesting fact about their potatoes is they have a white board that lists what farm and state the potatoes came from. However, it was frustrating to not be able to order a combo meal and save a little money. Also, it was sort of difficult to choose the toppings on the burger with the rude attitude of the female cashier behind the counter. With that said, all the employees looked generally enthusiastic working there except that one girl who had no patience to ring us up despite it being our first time there. I wasn't even sure if the peanuts were free and I didn't want to ask because of how annoyed she was acting. The burger meat was thick and soft while keeping its retention. The meat reminded me of Wendy's but much tastier. There are so many toppings which include mayo, lettuce, grilled onion, raw onion, tomato, pickles, relish, mustard, ketchup, grilled mushrooms and some other toppings that I can't remember. The coolest thing was probably the soda fountain machine and that was about it. I really doubt I would go out my way to eat here again. read more
