I haven't been to Shake Shack in a very long time. I came by late last night because a hankering for a cheeseburger struck at random and, honestly, In-N-Out doesn't always sound that appealing to me. One thing that's cool about this spot is that it's open until 2:00AM--yeah you heard that right! Big backs have a new late night home in central San Diego! Anyways, I ordered the single-patty SmokeShack burger combo with regular fries and a large Diet Coke. The staff member who brought me the food asked if wanted sauces and happily obliged my request for their signature Shake Shack sauce and ranch. The food showed up looking very tasty and well-presented. The fries kick In-N-Out's butt any day, though that's a pretty low bar to set if we're being honest. The burger was a little greasy, but it was super flavorful and tasted like pretty high-quality meat. I liked this a lot more than In-N-Out--sincerely. One downside is the ranch. It's kind of not that ranch-y to me. I think it's lacking dill and a bit too heavy on the mayo. The house sauce shreds In-N-Out spread though. The other primary downside of this place is the price tag. It's debatable whether $20 for this plate is justified, but in a world where a Big Mac meal costs about $14 after tax, I guess it's fine. read more

You hear all these things about Shake Shack and I'm still trying to figure out what the allure is all about. I've been to only 1 other location and that was in New York, So I stopped by for a quick lunch. They have the convenience of ordering from the kiosks (if you can figure it out). I was having a hard time with customizing my burger. So I ordered from the front. (So much easier). If you're a regular the kiosks are probably very quick & convenient but for a rookie - no thanks! I had the Smoke Shack with bacon and Onion Rings. Food was good, staff were nice but honestly thought the prices were high. So maybe I'm not ordering the right thing, and I'm not getting it. Parking is limited and it can take awhile to receive your order if they are busy so try to order ahead. Their smoky bbq burger and regular shack burgers are yummy. There is an outdoor patio so if you habe furry friends you can bring them as well. read more

Food here is solid but Shake Shack is starting to learn towards nice quality fast food versus its premiere high quality reputation. I prefer in-and-out. While shake shack looks sexy, it's starting to miss something. Content is heavy though. I can eat maybe half of my double cheese burger and 1/3 of my cheese fries where at in-and-out i can squash both like I'm big foot. Ordering here is fine, automated touch screen or in-person. Menu is starting to contain too many items. The parking lot here is tiny. Just order it on doordash or something. Service here is nice. It had been a few years since I'd visited Shake Shack. I don't remember being thoroughly impressed, but remember it as only OK. I then flew on an airline this summer that offered Shake Shack burgers and it was decent. I saw online that they had some deals in October, so my son and I came to grab dinner. We customized both double shack burgers and ordered fries and drinks. We placed an order on the app. My son ran inside to grab it when we arrived and it was ready on time. Very easy pick up. We drove the 10 minutes home and our burgers were still in great condition. The lettuce which I expected to be wilted, was still nice and crisp. The burger itself tasted great. The fries were fine, nothing special, but a good crinkle cut fry. The drinks, I love diet coke, so thank you for having coke products!! Came here for a late night burger. It's conveniently located in the same plaza as Gravity Heights and Spill the Beans. There's plenty of seating areas, they're pretty quick with the service, and they're open late - so it was exactly what we needed. I got their shack burger and cheese fries, which were both great and hit the spot. They also have a spicy cheese fries for a limited time, so I'd recommend trying that before it goes away. The service is hit or miss but it's more because it's self service to the right of the entrance where their are screens to order your food the way you like it .Especially if you have a buy one get one ( BOGO) you have to enter yourself vs the cashiers right in front of you. I think it also applies if you use deals too you order within the app.Also you assign yourself a number in the screen and take the placard sign with you to your table and they will bring it to you! So great that there is now a shake shack in mission valley! It is in a rather hidden location that basically shares a parking lot with an apartment building but also right across the street from Trader Joe's. As you walk up to the front door, there is a nice outdoor patio seating area and a "dog parking" spot! As you walk in, the interior seating area is rather large and you have the option to order at the counter or on an iPad. I chose to order on the iPad and our food was delivered to our table within 5 minutes. One thing I wasn't expecting was the prices. Plenty of parking at this location and tables and seating. They have outdoor seating as well as lots of indoor seating as well. They have a tv but it's just misc playing, nothing special or worthy of watching. The workers are kind and patient. They also have 2 kiosks that you can order from if you don't want to talk to anyone. But be wary because those things seemed to be acting up while we were there. I believe they were playing some KPop music which was nice to listen to. We ordered: 2 chickn shacks, 1 avocado bacon chickn shack, 1 cheesy bacon fries, 1 cheese fries. The things I'm disappointed about is that the lettuce was really LIMP and soggy when we arrived home. And the sandwich wasn't even in an enclosed bag so I'm not sure how it could have steamed itself up. There was no shredded lettuce like other locations. And I wish they had containers of their buttermilk herb mayo because I would devour that with the fries. Avocado was a bit scarce and I think that sucked because we paid ~+1 extra for it. The chicken was really nicely breaded with a great crunch to it. And the chicken was thick and juicy. I enjoyed it. The fries were soggy, but lucky me-- I like soggy fries. The bacon was salty but thin and crispy. I like the cheese sauce it's lovely, but it is also a bit salty. Therefore overtime, eating this could be tooo much. This came out to be about $44 dollars. The manager immediately greeted us with a warm smile, was extremely professional and most importantly, you can tell he loves his job. All the staff were friendly and quick with the service. To my surprise, Shake Shake is one block west and left side corner, 675 Camino de la Reina. The free parking lot is shared with a housing development behind Shake Shack. I found just a couple of spots @ 6:40 p.m. on a weekday. Shake Shack has a menu relative in size to other fast food chains-burgers, hot dogs, chicken, fries, shakes and frozen custard. My grilled dog was tasty! Hot in the center, crispy edges, a tasty cheese sauce and soft bun. I added a side of fries which were crispy and lightly salted. I would buy this combination again and add a frozen custard. The ordering went quickly. Fair prices. Smiling employees. Worth trying and returning! read more

With In-N-Out (INO) all around SD, among other burger joints, SS has a lot of competition. My first impression on entering was that this joint is spacious, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. To be fair, I did see a customer walk up to the counter and someone came from the back to take her order. If I knew that was an option, I would have taken that route. Whenever I try a new place, I like to ask about what's popular. Since I didn't know, I ended up just ordering what I thought might be good. I ended up ordering a Single Stack Shack Cheeseburger, crinkle cut fries (minus melted cheese), and a chocolate shake. The fries with cheese sounded good, but the picture on the self-serve kiosk made it look unappetizing, so I passed. I grabbed my table tent number and found a table. After about 10 minutes, my food came out. Although everything looked pretty good, the burger ended up being just okay. Not bad, but not as good as I expected. The fries were good, probably the highlight of the meal. They were nice and crispy, perfectly salted/seasoned. The chocolate shake was also just okay. The shake's texture was good, it was thick, there was just something off about the taste. I can't rate the customer service because I used the self-serve kiosk. My service score will be based off of the self-serve kiosk. It was user friendly, easy to navigate and explore. Check out and payment was easy. Parking here is a bit difficult. There were no spaces in the lot, but I found parking on the street. I found this place to be just okay overall. Sorry, the burger and shake just aren't on par with INO. When you eat an INO cheeseburger, you find yourself wanting to take another bite. I didn't get that feeling with the SS cheeseburger. People that love INO and try this place will know what I mean. It wouldn't be my first choice for burgers. I think I'd only come back if someone in my group wanted to come here. Walked in, and received a nice warm welcome greeting from the staff. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Football on the TV. Easy to read menu. They also serve beer! Which is pretty cool if that's sort of your thing, burgers and beer. The food comes out really fresh and hot, which is always a plus. I believe they also bring out different seasonal or promotional burgers and milkshakes throughout the year, so keep an eye out for that. The cheesy bacon fries are killer! The parking situation isn't the best, I'm not really sure how to describe it except it sort of shares parking with a condo complex and certain spots are marked for shake shack.
