My roommates and I have ordered from here for the past couple of years. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. We love their Cajun fries not only for their flavor but the quantity! The large is a filled tall cup along with however many fries are thrown into the bottom of the paper bag (be warned: can get very greasy easily). Their hot dogs are sliced in half so they're consistently cooked. Their burgers are usually good but my biggest complaint would be that when they wrap it in tin foil, it always seems extra squished by the time it gets opened up again. I downloaded the app, paid 13$ for a burger and fries. My own mistake. Waited 45 min for a burger and fries, had to tell 3 dif employees for my order to coke out. Mediocre burger. Have been actually yelled at to leave before and given a very poor attitude on several different occasions. So unnecessary. Fucking expensive for no reason too. 2 weeks later, ordered a burger online. Showed up to the swampscott location, woman told me they were closed. She said " you'll be refunded tomorrow". I placed an order thru Uber Eats and it was a simple thing I forgot to ask for cheese on a burger so I called to try to get it corrected: the person who first answered the phone passed me on to a rude unprofessional little girl who proceeded to tell me that "she remember my voice from prank calling and to "cut the bull shit" I said " excuse me what did you just say to me? How dare you. I am a 35 year old grown ass woman how dare you speak to a customer like that and accuse me of making prank calls. So I said I wanted to speak to the manager and of course this little bitch says she's the manager. She was probably lying. I am not letting this go. I am beyond livid at her automatically jumping on the phone not trying to help me AT ALL but to proceed to curse at me and accuse me of something as childish as crank calls. I will NEVER go to this place again and I hope you don't either. I work in customer service and this was the most unprofessional display of awful customer service and little girl w a chip on her shoulder because she's supposedly the manager. Delicious! I'm always happy when a chain makes it into the area, so when the Swampscott location opened, I had to make a visit. The burger, while not very original, was tasty, but it's the fries that made the meal. A regular portion was huge and so good! I could eat them every day. Of course, they are so greasy, I'd probably die, but I'd die happy. The boy, who doesn't do hamburgers, had a grilled cheese with bacon and a hot dog. The grilled cheese was meh, but he said he'd order the hot dog again. It was definitely worth the 25 minute commute from Everett, I'll be back soon! read more

Five Guys Burgers and Fries opened several months ago on Boston's North Shore, where Swampscott, Salem and Marblehead meet in Vinnin Square. It's a franchise that started 23 years ago in the Washington, DC area and has since spread up and down the east cost. There are now eight locations in the Boston-metro area. I've heard about Five Guys and read stories that equate it's quality and fanatical following with that of the West Coast's In-N-Out Burger. Both regional chains pride themselves on fresh ingredients. Five Guys' website claims, "There are no freezers in Five Guys locations, just coolers. Nothing is ever frozen. We use only fresh, never frozen, ground beef." Another entry into the burger spectrum is good news. It is a broad spectrum to be sure. There is a burger out there somewhere to satisfy everyone. I have heard rumors that there's even something called a "vague-a-terrian" burger offered by some restaurants. I may have the spelling wrong, but I'm told it is for people who do not eat meat. If you do not eat meat then why would you want something that looks like it? Perhaps these people should just graze in their own backyards. But I digress... Five guys claims to add to burger diversity in a big way. Again their website claims, "There are over 250,000 possible ways to order a burger at Five Guys." Impressive, no? Not quite, there topping options are not what I would call unique. You decide: cheese, bacon, mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A-1 sauce, bar-b-q sauce, hot sauce. Wow huh? Not. And when they say cheese they mean only one kind. Why hold back guys? Add just one more cheese and you could say there are 500,000 ways to order the burger. Oh, and one ingredient I was particularly glad to see on the menu and equally disappointed with - jalapenos. I would bet that 99% of people serving jalapenos use the pickled variety. You know, like pickles on a hamburger. Not here, they are fresh and not very satisfying. There is one more variant Five Guys could add to the menu and they would quadruple the ways to order. But they refuse, and I've asked...repeatedly. At Five Guys you only get burgers well done. This is totally unacceptable to me and is the main reason I will not return. I like my burgers medium to medium rare. Not allowing me an option smacks of arrogance. Five Guys answers the question of why only well done like this, "By cooking all of our burgers juicy and well done we are able to achieve two goals - (1) insure a consistent product, and (2) meet or exceed health code standards for ground beef. We understand that there are varying opinions on what level a burger should be cooked for optimal flavor and our opinion is that our burgers taste best cooked juicy and well done." See what I mean? It is not your opinion that matters. Five Guys has spoken. Are they bad burgers? No, they are decent. But they would be better if they were not cooked to death. So I am left a bit baffled by the Five Guys fanatics out there. Perhaps I will give them another try on their hotdogs. And I will reserve commentary on the fries for next time. I've been coming to this five guys location since they opened. Past year it has been falling apart. Bad customer service. I called to place and order and they left me on hold for 10 min. I showed up tonight and they had the place filled with employees that had no clue what they were doing. Walked in and stood at counter for a good few minutes while 3 cooks worked diligently over their stations. There were maybe 5 people in the establishment at the time. By the time I was recognized, a young man came over, apologized, and took my order. The burgers were very filling and tasty and the amount of fries- even a normal order, were substantial and I could not finish them. Peanuts are free and abundant so while you wait for your caloric burger, you can add more calories to your meal ingesting peanuts. This is funny. The reason that the several negative reviews say they don't like this place are the very reasons most of us DO like the place. There's a difference between "Burger Fanatics" and "People Who Are Just Craving a Burger" and Five Guys separates the two quite nicely. Burger Fanatics get it. The grease glistening off the sides of the meat as it drips down the bun onto your fingers. The squish of whatever condiments you wanted on it. Reaching over to chase that bite of burger down with a mouth-filling clump of seasoned fries and then washing it all down with a slug of your favorite soda. Can a mere craving for a burger really appreciate that? NO. Five Guys is simple. So simple it's gotta be offensive to people who can't tell the difference between Cold Duck and Dom Perignon... people who are just as happy with a McDouble because the "price" makes it taste just right. Five guys also saves you from that gnawing, uncertain feeling that you might've been better off ordering something else because there ARE no tacos on the menu. There IS no chili on the menu. There AREN'T any fish filets, lobster rolls, steak bombs, broccoli bites, chowder, or whatever else, on the menu. It's burgers, dogs and fries (with a grilled cheese in case a veg friend, or a little tyke, dares to accompany) w/free peanuts, and free drink refills. How much simpler can it get? You step in the front door and no matter how big the line, they've got you covered rather quickly. Another 3-5 minutes and you're eating. If I could give it zero stars I would lately there service has been shit. I went in there the other day and two employees were just sitting in the back didn't even look up from there phones when I walked in. Another employee came over and took my order a small fry and an Oreo milkshake. Finally one of the employees came out and without gloves picked up the fry's and put them into a basket and dropped them into the fryer. Then the said employe got a call and leaves the fry's while the employee who took my order made my shake. The female employee who took the phone call and put the fry's in came out about two minutes later fry's still in fryer and started bitching about her boyfriend. All the employees walked over and just ignored the food and gossiped about her boyfriend. When I finally got my food some how the outside of the frys were burnt but the inside were raw potato. My guess is that they put the fryer on to hot. And my milkshake was like sucking on ice cream it was not blended up and all the Oreo bits weren't even mixed in just sat at the bottom of the cup. what a mouth-wattering, belly bursting, sloppy & superb burger. i LOVE that the burgers are made in house, they don't charge for toppings, & they have fountain coke zero. YAH-UMMMM! The only reason I couldn't go full on five stars is because I am not a fan of their fries. Being cut in house and fried in peanut oil is awesome, they just don't really do it for me. That is absolutely fine though because it allows my taste-buds and I to focus lovingly and fully on the delicious burger. Plus they offer peanuts to munch on while you wait, so I can temporarily satiate my growling stomach while in suspense waiting for that heavenly meat patty. FYI - the jalapenos they offer as a topping are RAW. If you're used to the pickled, usual kind your mouth will most likely burst into flames :) Five guys is definitely a great burger and a great, better choice than heading to the closest fast food joint. So, my wife and I were on to a lovely healthy lunch at Whole Foods today when suddenly I saw a sign that said 'FIVE GUYS' and as I began reading the next line 'burgers and fries' my wife jammed on the brakes, pulled a u-ey and a few seconds later we were in for our first Five Guys experience. Now, let's do this review knowing a few things: 1) this is a fast food burger joint 2) this is a fast food burger joint that serves free peanuts. So, don't expect a shining floor (people are such slobs when it comes to eating shelled peanuts and there are quite a few employees CONSTANTLY cleaning the place) Don't expect anything more than a good burger and fries (and apparently hot dogs, but we didn't get those) as far as burger joints go, this place is tops. We found the burgers to be much better than Fuddruckers and significantly cheaper. I can give you some tips on saving a bit of money though: 1) get a 'junior' burger. That means you get ONE patty and not two (as the regular ones are). Save $1 or so 2) for two people, a small fry is plenty to split. Save $1 3) regular drink (free refills, save the 25c) We got regular bacon cheeseburgers and split a large fry with two drinks and it was just $20. a bit more than you'd spend at McDonalds or Burger King, but it's MUCH better. The fries are great (if a bit salty). They go great with the mayo they serve (if you like mayo on your fries... I do) However, when comparing prices, if you were to get the same thing at Fuddruckers for two people, you'd be at nearly $30 and, in my opinion, the burgers at Five Guys are better. They only come one way. I HATE well done burgers, but somehow they've managed to do a well done burger that maintains quite a bit of juicyness and TONS of flavor. Also, they have Mr Pibb on tap... and I love Mr Pibb. So, compared to SIMILAR fast food burger joints (including Fuddruckers) I have to give them a full five stars. read more

Before two nights ago, I hadn't been to a Five Guys since 2012 maybe? At the time, I found things to be greasy and dirty. But, I decided it was time to give it another try. At this location, the inside was very clean and orderly. The service wasn't very fast, but everyone was professional and cordial. I got a hamburger and a vanilla milkshake. It's maybe a little expensive ($7 for a hamburger) but I like the fact that you can get as many toppings as you want with no upcharge. The burger was great! So for the second time I witnessed an employee at the register exchange money back and forth with a customer and without changing their gloves the went over and handled food. The first time I saw this I wasn't completely sure it happened but this time it did 100%. I can't believe I have to actually point this out. If they weren't wearing gloves would they handle money and go straight to touching food without washing their hand? It's literally the same thing. A juicy, well done burger? Impossible, I thought. I was wrong. I don't generally eat restaurant burgers...you know, the kind where you can actually determine the temp at which it is cooked. If I get a burger, it's usually on the go at BK. Those pre-formed, frozen, thin, dried out patties never really taste that great. So I get the same temp I'm used to but with flavor and juicyness...well darn it all, I'm sold. I got the small bacon burger. One patty is enough, believe me. Nice touch in putting the bacon underneath the burger. More often than not, my bottom teeth get sick of just biting into soggy bun, so thanks for allowing them the chance to chomp through some crispy pork. Unlike another poster here, I enjoy the chopped raw onions. One thing I absolutely hate is when you take a bite of a burger, don't quite disconnect the onion with your bite and end up with a string of onion hanging out of your mouth. It is definitely the most unhealthy thing I've eaten lately, I will say that. The amount of grease in the burger and the fries (a small IS plenty to split between two people) has my arteries feeling a bit clogged, but one can splurge every now and then, no? I loved the open style kitchen, where you can watch each burger order being placed on the open buns, the patties placed and the burgers wrapped. Good attention to detail. When it comes to burgers, there's really only two kinds - the fancy, gourmet sort that features artisan cheeses and creative toppings, and then there's the fast food style burger. 5 Guys does the latter style better than practically everyone. They're a distant second to In-N-Out, but with no locations in this time zone, it'll have to be 5 Guys. Like any great burger place, it's not only their specialty but practically the only thing on the menu. Every one is made to order based on the toppings you've chosen at the register. A regular order of French fries is more than enough for two people - I'm sure the large order is reserved for competitive eaters and first-timers who don't know what they're in for. I've eaten at this particular 5 Guys maybe a dozen times, and I like that it's clean, rarely crowded, and the service is relatively friendly. I've also eaten at the Patriot Place location, though that tends to be much more crowded (and messy as a result). Also, one time the cashier in Foxboro barely spoke English. I'm all for workplace diversity, but folks dealing with the customers need to be able to converse with them. I've also eaten at locations in Simpsonville, SC and Winchester, VA. The southern restaurants might have a slight edge in quality - I'm guessing they're a little closer to distribution centers and have fresher ingredients for that reason. read more

Amazingly good -- better than any burger chain out there, including the famous In-N-out Burger in LA... First of all, the burgers are awesome... They're cooked like home-made burgers, fresh, not perfectly formed like a typical chain... The array of toppings is the best of any burger place out there. And no extra charge. Great burgers and I have to say they where most certainly better than average. They are what they are a greasy not the most healthy things in the world but still all and all very good. I like the concept that is still simple like California's In-Out burger, I like the limited simple to the point menu. They are pretty quick (actually faster than any In-Out Burger I have ever been to...but then again the west coast works on another priory clock in my humble opinion) . I will say that I think they are a little pricey for what you get (Burger wise that is) and even though you get a ton of fries that completely overflow (which is one of their novelties) I always feel a little funky after eating them. Like I really want to go on a body detox and take a shower. This is why I'm going with 3 stars Over all, the place is clean for a fast food joint and the 80's retro music was a nice touch. I always appreciate a place that does maybe one or two things but commits to do them extremely well. Five Guys has three things on their menu: burgers, hot dogs, and fries. That's it. But damn if they aren't all delicious. I haven't eaten in here but I've called in orders to pick up and I am always impressed. So far they haven't messed up an order and everyone in my family likes to get several toppings and each burger is slightly different. Service is polite and prompt. The restaurant itself is clean and bustling; I think a family meal here would be quite nice. The "Little" burgers are actually normal sized, single-patty burgers. The "Hamburgers" are double-pattied. There's not really much to say except they are flavorful, juicy and extremely satisfying. An order of large fries will *easily* satisfy a party of four or five. It's just enormous. Five Guys is fast food done well. It's slightly more expensive than the usual chains, but about 1000 x better in terms of service, quality and portion size. You also wait a little bit longer (about 20 minutes) but again...the result is exponentially more satisfying. read more

My husband thinks this place should be called "Five Guys Fries and Burgers." The man loves his burgers, but today the fries won him over. The burgers are good, but I wish they made it more clear that a regular burger has two patties and the "little" burger has one patty. One would have been enough since they're pretty big. I almost had so much meat that I couldn't taste the condiments that I added.
