i really enjoyed this place! i love spicy chicken sandwiches, so i had to try this place. we got the nashville hot chicken sandwich (my favorite). the original, and the one with the egg (i forget the name). all of them were cooked great, the chicken was juicy and crispy. exactly what you want from a fried chicken sandwich. i loved the coleslaw on top of them also, very good. the customer service was good, everyone was friendly. we ate inside because these kinds of sandwiches don't travel well- the place was clean and there were lots of seats! also got a root beer float, was yummy as expected. the only thing i do wish, was that they had some better sides! but i will definitely be back! read more

With my love for spicy fried chicken, when I discovered this place, I made it a point to stop by next time I was in the area. Fans will know about my adventures and misadventures with spicy food. Can we just have nutrition labels list Scoville units in addition to the usual macros and micros? Not wanting to turn into a fire-breathing dragon or the big bad wolf, huffing and puffing through my meal, I went for a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. While not the greatest fried chicken I'd had (that title stays with Dave's), I've no complaints about the chicken itself. It was cooked nicely, and appropriately crisp and tender. The chow-chow (pickled vegetable relish) was a unique touch, and the lettuce added some welcome freshness. The bayou sauce was pleasant, also. I found everything to be mostly well-balanced, though I personally would have loved a little more lettuce. There's just one 'little' detail: the heat. If there was any spiciness, it was fully imperceptible to my palate. So much so I confirmed with the kitchen it was, in fact, a Nashville hot. Not wanting to be "that guy" I didn't send it back - but 100% going for at least an "Angry Bird" next time. For some final notes: - Value was excellent at ~$12 for a rather large sandwich. - Fries were fine, no complaints and nothing to write home about. - Service was polite and reasonably quick. - Location was clean, and only the paint needed a little touch up. Sandwich's have gotten better! They went through a rough patch about a year ago but now they are back to normal. BUT the angry fries are not good anymore. Why would I want French fries that have fried chicken on them with my fried chicken sandwich? The old fries were good because the ribs would completely cover the fries and add to the over all flavor. With the chicken angry fries, all of the sauce and toppings are piled on only the chicken and not on the fries. The fries only have angry dust on them making them almost inedible. They said they got rid of the ribs because the price has gone up, personally I would pay more for the angry fries with the ribs, don't care about the price because they were THAT good. I do love a good chicken sandwich. What stands out for me here is that Flip The Bird uses a hearty white meat chicken breast for their sandwiches. It's juicy and tender and made to order. The OG is almost like a chicken cutlet style fry in it. Less crunchy but still awesome. Loved the pickles and ranch on it. The potato bun is soft and pillowy. The Cry Bird lives up to its name. Ghost pepper sauce and lettuce. The sandwich comes with a warning and set of gloves to eat it with. Free refills on soda, even though it's behind the counter. The staff didn't mind the refills even after a few trips up because of the Cry Bird spice. I was happy to finally try this place. It's good that I don't live closer, I'm a sucker for a great chicken sandwich. I would be here daily. Staff was so awesome. They were nice and definitely customer focused. There are about 6 or 7 tables inside. It's counter ordering. Be prepared for your order to take 15 min to prepare. This is fresh food, not fast food. Ample parking in the shopping plaza. read more

Flip the Bird has delicious fried chicken. We ordered 2 YA Basic, 1 fried and 1 grilled and added Buffalo Dip, shredduce, tomatoes, pickles and Fritos. Delicious!! Love that you can build your own sandwich. We also had some chicken tenders, perfection! We ordered the homemade salt and pepper chips with pimento cheese- they were so good! I had an appointment close by and it was getting late so I finally decided to give this place a try. I didn't want much but also wanted a variety (I know, lol but I like options ). Considering the restaurant is known for their chicken sandwiches, I decided to try their 'OG' but instead of it being fried, I requested it be grilled. Let me tell you, RUN, do not walk! This chicken sandwich was one of the best I've had in a long time. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and made daily, if not more frequently. The bun, pickles and 'ranch' sauce all complimented the chicken perfectly. Now on to the rest of the order, I ordered a side of French fries and it comes with few different types of dipping sauces, I chose truffle ketchup, which was delicious. The fries sadly were not my vibe, too salty and too hard. I also ordered the biscuits with the honey butter (up charge $1.50 for the butter). The biscuits are huge but also really hard and crunchy exterior and soft interior but without flavor. The honey butter actually lacked a key ingredient, the honey... it was rather a warm whipped butter with cinnamon, save your coins. Honestly, I could have done without the fries or biscuits. Go to a place where they are know for biscuits as this was not it. I will def return but will just stick to the variety of chicken sandwich's and maybe try one f the other sides they offer. We ordered 2 PCH burgers to-go for our flight home to CA and they were definitely worth it. It had been at least 3 hours since we had ordered them when we actually ate the burgers, but none of the bread was soggy or greasy. I first learned about Flip the Bird last winter after moving to Marblehead and regularly made the drive to Beverly. As a loyal fan, I LOVE the new location, a mere half mile from my house. And good news is that the food is just as delicious as the original location makes it! I have explored a good portion of the menu by now and here are the highlights: 1) NASHVILLE HOT - great sandy, this is my favorite! 2) FLIP THE BIRD and THE HOUND Styles - add an egg or extra patty for a reasonable price. Yum! 3) TRUFFLE KETCHUP - perfect for fans of truffle fries that want to modulate the truffle flavor intensity. My only criticisms of this place are A) that the ANGRY FRIES (which taste incredible) are just simply too hot. I get that they are intended to be spicy but man it is punishing for my 35 yr old stomach...would be incredible if there was a more mild version of this and B) the waffles they use for the weekend waffle and chicken were super 'Meh'. They could seriously benefit from a sweeter mix (think the waffles from the huts you see at ski joints). Anyways keep it up! read more

I finally tried this place and was NOT disappointed. I am wondering why this place isn't higher rated - I have had 3 of the chicken sandwiches and all were spectacular. The fries are very tasty also - get the truffle ketchup ... amazing. The OG sandwich is simple and a good way to ease into things. Big piece of juicy chicken crisped up perfectly .... Awesome buttermilk ranch sauce drizzled all over.... and the pickles add a nice crunch "touch" when biting into the potato bun. The Nashville Hot was also excellent. There was some thing on the bottom bun that made it a bit cold and mushy -- but it took a slight edge off the hotness of the sandwich and was flavorful. Just made the bun a bit wet and textured on the bottom - but didn't take away from the overall taste of the sandwich. Finally, the Angry Bird has some serious heat to it and kicks it up a notch ...or 3. For that reason, it probably gets the "tops" vote for me. But I really love spicy food, so you gotta lean in that direction to favor this one. The homemade slaw and hot peppers on top were a perfect complement to the heat built into this sandwich. Whatever the combo of wet sauce and Angry Dust they use - it flat out works. I could eat this stuff any day of the week. You can only order online so I see some people complaining about not being able to call them to sort out order mishaps - which I can understand. But the order entry was easy and on the few times my wife and I ordered - it was perfect each time. Their COVID procedures seemed excellent and safe. So local folks - this is a gem! Try it out! I can't compare to the Beverly operation since I haven't been there. But this Swampscott location, friendly staff and awesome fried chicken is a winner ....and Marblehead is lucky to have them closeby. read more

Oh man, don't know where to start. The sandwich was SUPER fresh, a most excellent sandwich, super crispy chicken, a very nice roll...yum. The fries were awesome and had a fantastic flavor, could most definitely be gobbled down w/out anything. However, if you like ranch even a little...it was quite possibly The best ranch I've had. The only thing which wasn't appreciated, especially by my husband was the pickles are homemade and taste too much like cucumbers for him. I'm staring at what looks like grilled chicken that was breaded and fried. It's too hard to chew. And all these reviews about flavor? Where? This just tastes like pepper. Here's the reason for my one star review. I ordered over $70 worth of food and I get a message that your order will be ready in ten minutes. There's no place to say I'm ordering this from my office and I won't be home for thirty minutes, and there's no telephone number to call and nobody responds to texts or emails. I called the telephone number that I received a text from. Nothing. So my food sat there for over thirty minutes. When my son got there to pick it up, the manager said, sorry we don't have a phone number, the food is made as you order it and sorry we're not going to make your order over again. Despite how good their food can be. It's been hit and miss for me. My first meal in Swampscott was great. Next, I had a miserable sandwich in Beverly and then halfway decent experience in Swampscott. For the value I got for my money today and for the attitude my kids got from the manager at Swampscott, you can be sure it's going to take me a lot to go back. Not only did I spend over $14 this evening on four orders of soggy, cold french fries, they didn't even include the truffle ketchup. I wrote: If you had a phone number I would have called to cancel or called back to order later. As it is, I just paid over $70 to eat terrible sandwiches and horrible fries and there was no ketchup included. Terrible experience. I'm not asking for a full refund, I need you to meet me in the middle. I'm not sure if you talked to my kids but they were extremely unhappy. I've been to this establishment twice now here in Salem. Both times have me unbelievable with good service and even better food. The chicken here was in great portions and just juicy. The sandwich I recommend is The Nashville Hot. This sandwich is topped with their house made slaw which elevates the sandwich even more. The animal fries were a new try of mine as it looked and sounded good. Upon arrival they were as good as advertised and had an excellent flavor.
