    Cajun fries
    Brian G.

Last time I went to five guys was when I was a child, so I decided to stop by to see how the burgers are nowadays. Service was fine. They explained how the menu works and the food came out quick. I ordered a regular cheeseburger which is two patties, with a bunch of extra toppings like grilled onion, mushroom, lettuce, tomato, pickles. Unfortunately the beef patties have little to no browning at all when cooked so they tasted pretty bland. Cajun fries tasted okay but they were soft and soggy. Without a drink, this ran me $20 so I don't think it was worth it.

We straggled into this location close to closing. Dillion and the crew were all welcoming! The restaurant was very clean and in order. I expressed how the burgers and fries were flavorful and higher in quality over the nearby competition. We appreciated the patience of the staff as we sat to eat and drink our meal. I noticed the staff continued to clean the kitchen. They never gave us the impression to hurry as time was close to closing. When in the area, we'll be back. We thanked the staff for everything. In turn several of the staff thanked us for our patronage!

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. We were enthusiastically greeted by the team upon entering. The restaurant was clean and parking was very convenient and easy. Jaylin took our order, he was kind and helpful. We decided to dine in with our little one. There were clean high chairs available. Our food came out within 15 mins and everything was fresh, hot and served as ordered. I would definitely visit this location again if I am in the area.

Good burgers and best fries around but way too many fries even on little order and over-priced.

ME LOVE HER! ME LOVE HER (foot-)LONG TIME!…read more SIT-REP (Situation Report) It's great to have a great hot dog stand only 2 blocks North of my office-site! THE SET-UP AND THE FARE In fact, this is the first prong in my ritual walk: after I grab some peanuts in the shell, I get the hot dog (usually Seattle style with Cream Cheese or German style with Kraut), and walk to Capitol Park, and find on of my favorite park benches on the Southwest Quadrant of the park. And as I munch on my hot dog, I am approached by a surly group of squirrels, led by Chip & Dale, who look at my plaintively, eyeing the little pile of peanut shells on the bench next to me. I make a few teasing feints of peanut throws, but then follow through. It's amazing to watch the little tussles between the fluffy-tailed rodents - it's amazing to imagine squirrels WITHOUT tails and what handsome rats they would make. I also imagine how this scenario would be dramatically different if my pocket-Panthers JACK & BOBBY were there with me, watching these events. Would my cats think I lost it? Would they feel betrayed? Actually, I think they'd ridicule me because that's the kind of basterds my cats are (since these are the same two that disect mice, rats and birds in front of me as we go on our walks). THE LOWDOWN But I think I've wandered off the reservation and have gotten away from talking about DOGS. These are some good DOGS! YUMMM!

There was a steady stream of folks in line after we arrived too. There are plenty of tables outside and seem to be able to accommodate the clientele well. Some shade is available but other seats are in the sun. No heaters nor cooling was available. The staff were working hard that day pushing out orders. We noticed the online ordering option was not available. We had the peach shake which definitely looks up to the hype, fresh and delicious and not too sweet. We also tried the chili cheese fries, which were fine. A very basic quality chili, tomatoes and a bit of meat and shredded cheese. The fries were also pretty standard. The burgers were good, a bit sour overall with all the pickles, mustard, and Whitey sauce, but the prices were great!

OK, that's a hike from me in Carmichael, but I say let's do it. Long story short - great peach shake! But not worth the effort. After a 1/2 hour drive, we arrive exactly at 12 noon and the line of customers waiting to order is around 40 souls. The DW goes to find a table while I stand in line. The good news is there are lots of tables with benches suitable to be shared by disparate groups. She finds one with a canopy and out of the sun. I stand in line for about 15 minutes (it actually moved pretty well and did allow me to interact with those in front and back of me ) before I get to order. I order two peach shakes, The Big Burger, a hot dog, and fries. I pay and learn it will be 30-40 minutes for the food! Say what! Apparently if you just order a shake, as many seem to do, it is only a 10 minute wait. Food takes a lot longer for some reason. I go ahead and agree to wait as I am here and I really want to try that peach shake. I plop my butt down on the bench seat and await the food. Did I mention, I am older and detest bench seats? The lack of a back rest, over time, is akin to slow torture. But I digress. The table is in the shade which is good. The bad is that it is approaching 90 degrees and there is no breeze. Fans would be a lovely addition to the seating area. The cooler of water and stack of cups attract my attention as my thirst increases. I was hoping the water would be cold, but no it is room temp, albeit still wet As the clock counts up to the 35 minute mark, the guy in front of me in the line, with a similar order is called to Pick Up. Yea, I am next! No, I am not. Three people behind me with food orders are called, including one person must be known to the staff as he was 7-8 people behind me. Add in 4-5 people just getting shakes make to the the Pick Up window before I am finally called (at the 42 minute mark). All Right, lets eat! The burger is a standard 1/3 lb. patty with cheese and basic condiments (lettuce. tomato, and onions) no different than McDonalds or Burger king - meh. The hot dog was long but made up for it by being skinny. Once again, basic mustard and a couple of pieces of onion. Nothing exceptional. The fries were plentiful but lacked salt. Oh yea, no salt or pepper or ketchup or mustard type condiments are available outside. Maybe if you stand in line, they are, but I wasn't going to do that again. The peach shakes, though. are really good. Noticeable pieces of fresh peach along with what seemed to be real vanilla ice cream, although it is the soft serve stuff. We both greatly enjoyed the peach shakes and they are every good as others have said. The shakes are worth another visit, if I am in the area already, and it is other than a rush hour time.

This was more of a grab-and-go kind of stop, and it hit exactly what I needed in the moment. I didn't even have to think about my order. Chili cheese fries, add onions. Always!! There's just something about opening that container and getting that mix of warm chili, melted cheese, and that little bite from the onions. It's messy in the best way and always hits the craving and I love they always include a fork. This location feels very Midtown. The inside dining area is pretty small, nothing like the larger setups you'll find in Elk Grove, so it's not really a sit and hang out kind of place. It's more grab your food and go. The drive-thru was super busy when I went, and the parking lot is on the smaller side, so you might have to circle around the block if there are a lot of cars. That said, even with the line, it moved fast, which I appreciated. Everything came out exactly how I ordered it and quick, which is really all you want from a stop like this. Helpful tip: Add onions to the chili cheese fries, and if you're coming during a busy time, be prepared for a tight parking lot but a fast-moving line. Same go to order, different vibe, and it still delivered.

Most of the time these families would stop at a picnic table to eat. I decided to investigate what it was that they had so I meandered along the walking path up to T street and crossed over to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. In the breezeway between the church and the rectory there were several tables set up with food vendors, whom I believe are members of the church. The smells wafting through the air made my mouth water and my stomach growl. I walked About halfway through breezeway and stopped at a tamale table with a sweet plump little woman who smiled and asked if I wanted to try some. So I tried a sample.... I must warn you that I'm extremely picky about tamales as my family has been making them for generations. In other words I know good tamales from quickly thrown together not-so-good ones. Quite frankly I was blown away at how good these tamales are!!! The Masa is not plain and doughy. It is lightly salted, and firm--not dry and crumbly. The cheese flavor was made with real Mexican Acedero (white) cheese and had green chili mixed with it to compliment the flavors with a little spice. The green chili has a flavor that falls between that of a jalapeno and an Anaheim Chili pepper. I then was offered a sample of the chicken tamale. Wow!! This tamale was filled shredded perfectly seasoned chicken. The chicken looked like breast meat and was not fatty or greasy. The spices were complimentary to the chicken. I was offered a sample of red homemade chili sauce and crema (a white cream sauce that is mixed with real cream.) The chili sauce was served piping hot from a large pot and it was yummy and the crema was unbelievable. I noticed a line of people had formed so I had to stop sampling and place my order. I bought 1 cheese and 1 chicken and didn't get a chance to try the beef. Which means that I will have to return to this vendor booth next time I come to the farmers market. Added bonus: Being that this food court of vendor booth's are located directly across the street from South Side Park gives everyone an opportunity for a picnic in the park. What a great find this breezeway by the church is. I hope you try them!

Be sure to ask the nice women behind the table to put the red sauce and crema on top. They even take the tamales out of the husk for you. Besides having tamales like your abuela used to make they have freshly made churros, bacon wrapped hotdogs, and horchata. They also have a wide variety of tacos. If you're lucky they'll have the carnitas or adobada, which I wish they carried more often. The constants there are the steak, chicken, chorizo, and lengua. I've tried them all and they're all tasty. Give them all a shot and decide for yourself. They're open every Sunday from early in the morning to I think 7 at night. I typically like to go to the Farmers Market a few blocks away then hit this place up for lunch and eat in the park. Bring $5 and get stuffed.
