I have been wanting to try out Whitney's Jolly cones peach shake for over a year now and I was so excited to finally make it there today. I went at 3:15-ish in the afternoon and there was still a line and just one parking spot left, and the tables outside were mostly filled up despite the fact that it was nearly 100° outside and not traditional lunch or dinner time. The young man at the Window was very polite and explained to me that sauce on the hamburger. I have to say that it wasn't really like thousand Island as he described because thousand island I know of usually has catchup rather than mustard. I believe this was a concoction of mayonnaise, mustard, and pickle relish. Burger band was incredibly soft. Patti was teeny nice lettuce nice tomato decent burger, especially for the price. The peach shake was a little more pricey, but I'm fine with paying that for a fresh peach shake and it definitely was fresh peach as I found a piece of peach stem in there which I don't mind. I heard a lot of hype surrounding their peach shake and had to check them out. It's been all over social media for years and in news articles. We came here on the weekend just before their lunch hours started. We tried to order online to get ahead of the long line we anticipated. Online, it said it would take maybe 40 minutes to get our order, so we decided to get there and order in person instead. They have a decent sized parking lot, but it got full fast as lunch time approached. There's plenty of outdoor seating (exclusively outdoor), and some seats did not have umbrellas to shade you. We ended up ordering a burger, onion rings, and a medium sized peach shake to share between me and my partner. The burger and onion rings were of a quality that you would expect from an old time burger joint. The burger was otherwise alright, and nothing special. The onion rings had a nice crispy batter, but also nothing special. I think people would enjoy this place for the nostalgia if anything. As for the peach shake, when we got it, I saw the color was very faintly orange. As some others have mentioned, it's nice that there are peach bits but they are sooooo tiny. I came here mid morning since I was in the area and there was no line. They were only serving breakfast so I ordered their chorizo breakfast burrito and 2 peach milkshakes to go. We came on day 2 of this year's return of the peach shake and waited in line for about 40 mins after arriving at 11:30 AM. There was a steady stream of folks in line after we arrived too. There are plenty of tables outside and seem to be able to accommodate the clientele well. Some shade is available but other seats are in the sun. No heaters nor cooling was available. The staff were working hard that day pushing out orders. We noticed the online ordering option was not available. I have NEVER seen a burger weighing in "9th of a pound". I guess it's inflation and beef shortages? I never ate here before and did not know anything about this "iconic" stand. I saw it as I had to run an errand in the area. Once I ordered, I was told that the order would take 30 minutes. Though I really did not want to spend 30 minutes waiting for a 9th pound burger, after considering the remainder of my day, I decided it was best to wait. They sell beer, cider and wine either burgers and tacos. The "burger" was pretty much nonexistent as any kind of flavor. The onions and peppers were quite tasty. Maybe they should consider a much thinner/smaller bun for this amount of meat. For this lesser burger and a medium drink I paid $10.70. I do not consider that a bargain for what I got. Food: We stopped by for the infamous Peach shakes and it was great, definitely more of the vanilla ice cream used overshadowed the peach. The fudge shake was nice and chocolatey. Despite living in Sacramento a long time, I'd never heard of this place before one of my colleagues mentioned it. I got the peach shake and it was SUBLIME - the peaches in there tasted fresh and the ice cream was thick, smooth, and equally tasty. I'd definitely like to try more of their flavors. The store and patio area were both super cute, too - lots of places to sit, even on a hot day with quite a few people, and the shake appeared REALLY quickly too (and disappeared almost as quickly). I wanted to comment about this, too: I was going to order a shake and burrito, and the guy who took my order mentioned that it might take 35-40 minutes to get food, but only 5 for a shake. I changed my order and opted only for the shake, but I was super impressed and pleased by his transparency about how long food would take to be made and anticipating what my reaction might be as a customer. While I'd definitely come back just to try more shake flavors and food aline, I'll most certainly be back because of this conscientiousness about time on a super hot afternoon. I really like peaches! Several recent articles stated it is now peach season (yes, I know it is) and the best peach shake is at Whitey's Jolly Kone in West Sac. OK, that's a hike from me in Carmichael, but I say let's do it. Long story short - great peach shake! But not worth the effort. After a 1/2 hour drive, we arrive exactly at 12 noon and the line of customers waiting to order is around 40 souls. The DW goes to find a table while I stand in line. The good news is there are lots of tables with benches suitable to be shared by disparate groups. She finds one with a canopy and out of the sun. I stand in line for about 15 minutes (it actually moved pretty well and did allow me to interact with those in front and back of me ) before I get to order. I order two peach shakes, The Big Burger, a hot dog, and fries. I pay and learn it will be 30-40 minutes for the food! Say what! Apparently if you just order a shake, as many seem to do, it is only a 10 minute wait. Food takes a lot longer for some reason. I go ahead and agree to wait as I am here and I really want to try that peach shake. I plop my butt down on the bench seat and await the food. Did I mention, I am older and detest bench seats? The lack of a back rest, over time, is akin to slow torture. But I digress. The table is in the shade which is good. The bad is that it is approaching 90 degrees and there is no breeze. Fans would be a lovely addition to the seating area. The cooler of water and stack of cups attract my attention as my thirst increases. I was hoping the water would be cold, but no it is room temp, albeit still wet As the clock counts up to the 35 minute mark, the guy in front of me in the line, with a similar order is called to Pick Up. The burger is a standard 1/3 lb. patty with cheese and basic condiments (lettuce. tomato, and onions) no different than McDonalds or Burger king - meh. The hot dog was long but made up for it by being skinny. Once again, basic mustard and a couple of pieces of onion. Nothing exceptional. The fries were plentiful but lacked salt. Oh yea, no salt or pepper or ketchup or mustard type condiments are available outside. Maybe if you stand in line, they are, but I wasn't going to do that again. The peach shakes, though. are really good. Noticeable pieces of fresh peach along with what seemed to be real vanilla ice cream, although it is the soft serve stuff. Every time I pass by this place I see a bunch of people waiting. I thought this might be a good place for fast food. I finally stopped by and ordered a burger and some seasoned curly fries. Bad decision. After waiting 54 minutes I got a disgusting saggy burger which got me food poisoning. I've had horrible stomach ache and vomiting all night long. This place is a West Sacramento staple where people have ventured here over the past 7 decades. Ever since opening back in 1963, it has gained thousands of customers over the years. Located on Jefferson Blvd (old Highway 84) and adjacent to 13th/15th St., this place has seen evolutionary changes even to the present day. As for the parking situation, they have their own dedicated lot. However, on some of the busier days, this can fill up very quickly. I came here during the evening of Saturday 8/2/2025 at around 7:45pm and it was packed to a capacity. Fortunately, there was one open parking spot that I was able to grab. Otherwise, I would recommend parking your vehicle at one of the nearby surface streets but be respectful as this area has several residential properties in this area. Their food menu consists of your typical standard American fare; burgers (with 6 different options), sandwiches, hot dogs, sides/appetizers, and even Mexican food (tacos, burritos, etc). However, their main treat are their amazing and delicious milkshakes and ice creams. They carry about two dozen flavors of shakes while their "Peach Shake" has been a fan favorite which keeps customers coming back again and again. That is what I had ordered during my visit and must say, it did not disappoint. I do want to point out that if you are willing to brave the elements, this is an outdoors-only diner. No matter if it is 45°F on a December morning or 110°F on a July afternoon, this place is ready to serve their customers no matter how extreme the weather can be. I also want to point out that the last time I have been here (which was around 2008-09), the exterior was far more simple. They have done a lot to keeping customers dry and out of the sun by constructing a giant permanent roof overhang. Additionally, there are several large green umbrellas so this sun isn't blinding you when enjoying your food. Finally, they are open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30am-8:30pm while being closed on Sunday/Monday. During my visit, I experienced above average customer service while my peach shake was creamy and delicious. And from my past experiences eating their burgers, they are the tasty, no-frills, diner-style burgers that fill you up. It's been a while since I've been to WJK, and I was starving and in the neighborhood to find Baker Family Wines, so why not? I like that they've updated their outdoor eating space by softening with greenery and adding more seating. I also think it's cool they offer several IPAs and wine, but sadly, I'm on a mission so cannot partake on this outing. They continue to offer their noteworthy milkshakes, and I will get my peach on next peach season! My order was taken quickly, repeated for accuracy and I was glad to find an empty table. My double deluxe burger and ice tea order was ready in less than 10 minutes. While not the prettiest to look at, all the ingredients have a way of melding together perfectly - just as I remember. Also to wait that long for mediocre food is mind blowing. I wont be back. The onion rings and curly fries were burnt to a crisp. June 18, 2025 - West Sacramento Had to update my review to mention some recent changes. First, they expanded the outside seating area which is a huge improvement. There are covered tables and benches, so usually there is room for you to actually enjoy your meal there rather than having to sit in your car or take it home. And they have expanded the menu to include beer and wine. Today, I again ordered the Whitey's Special, and my sister ordered the tacos. We both enjoyed our meal with some ice tea, so I can't really comment on the beer and wine other to mention that they are on the menu. I have to note, though, that I did miss the music. Since my last review, they have a covered patio now and serve beer and wine too, and Temple coffee! They also serve breakfast too, from 8:30am-11:00am! The menu has changed a little bit, and there are now three sizes for shakes (and no more styrofoam cups). You can order ahead online or by phone, or just in-person. I've stopped in for both lunch and dinner. I stick with either their Whitey's Special bacon quarter pound cheeseburger or the Chicken Strips w/ranch, curly fries or onion rings, and a soft serve swirl or a butterscotch shake. You can also add additional flavors to your shake -- last visit tried Butterfinger + Peanut Butter! Next month will be the start of Peach shake season. The large sundae was good, and I've tried a few of their other stuff like chips and dip and fried burrito. The only other things I'd like to try are their hot dogs/corn dogs, BLT or tuna melt! I love that it's family-owned (for 3 generations!), affordable, and they use incredibly fresh, quality ingredients for everything (even the fruit in their milkshakes comes from local farmer's markets!) Their pricing is insanely reasonable (a deluxe burger starts at $4.50, a small shake $5.25, a taco is $3). I like the deluxe burger with cheese, my husband likes the whitey's special burger (both are delicious). Their ranch (we like to dip our fries into it) is homemade and really yummy. The milkshakes are THE BEST milkshakes in Sacramento hands down. They have 18 different always on the menu staple flavors (Oreo, banana, peanut butter, vanilla, mocha, blackberry, root beer freeze...this list goes on) as well as seasonally inspired (egg nog, peach, today they had salted caramel and key lime pie as the 2 additional seasonal ones.) I've liked the peanut butter/banana shake, peach, pistachio, and root beer freeze the best though I've also enjoyed butterscotch, egg nog, Oreo... I love the addition of beer and wine, as well as the new seating and ambiance. You don't find a lot of authentic, small town, historic, family run spots like this anymore in Sacramento and it really is a special place. If you have a second, it's worth reading up on the history of Whitey's and the wonderful siblings and their partners who now operate it as the third generation family owners. They're really good people and I love how much focus they put into supporting local from the ingredients they use to the West Sac beer and wine offerings you'll find on their menu. The entire family helps run and staff Whitey's too so when you visit, it's highly likely the person ringing you up or the person flipping your burger is one of the family owners (or their parents, the previous owners, who also still help out!) "Hidden gem" out in the open. I've lived in Sacramento long enough that I should have at least heard about this place but to my surprise I had not. Randomly deciding to eat out on a Wednesday night my wife found Whitey's on Yelp and it looked interesting enough to check out. Old school burger joint written all over it, as soon as you step outside of the car you're already greeted with the aroma of burger patties grilling. Seating is all outdoors, some covered some not -- this is definitely a perfect hangout spot for those summer evenings out. We opted for some classics for our first trip here, I went with the Whitey's Special, my wife got the Green Onion and Pepper Burger, a fried burrito for the little one and we shared an order seasoned curly fries. Food was delicious, cooked and seasoned well, with just the right amount of everything in it. Prices were fair for the amount of food we got, all of that totaled $24 + tip. It was pretty tiny considering it's called The Big Burger. Both of our burgers tasted decent though. The chili fries and hot dog were normal too. It just wasn't anything special. The star of the meal was the milkshake though! I definitely recommend you trying the shakes. The texture and flavors are perfect! Overall, I think the food is alright and a bit pricy for what you get. However, if you want a sweet treat come try the MILKSHAKES! I will be back for the milkshakes. read more

I am a fan. From someone who is from California where there are charbroiled burger spots on every street, I was so happy to have found this spot. Great burgers, onion rings, and chili cheese fries. Also, did you know you could get a 32 oz milkshake? That's a bit u heard of. Wanted to try more things but I was getting too full.
