I'm part of a seasonal bowling league at Capitol Bowl on Mondays, and after reading that article ordered up those balsamic chips! Very fresh. We usually get whole pizzas, chicken tenders, curly fries, loaded chicken nachos, garlic fries, and pitchers of beer or sodas. Bar service was phenomenal. We were greeted upon entry even though they were busy. Noticing we were there to watch the raiders game, he turned up the column for us. We ordered the new curly fries. They were good and crispy, but didn't arrive hot. Maybe they just cool off quickly in the seasoning process, but we thought that was odd. My husband got the Long Island and I got a water. Both were good. This is a great place to catch a game. We'll be back. read more

Three stars does not indicate a negative review or experience for me; just an, essentially, mid-range one where giving either 4 or 5 stars would require something a bit special or over-the-top in some way. With that note out of the way, on to the verbose version... Certainly striving to be fair here, too. This spot makes no attempts at being judged as a fine-dining establishment, which should be read as a statement of fact rather than any sort of indictment. It's a bar / restaurant that overlooks the lanes at a bowling alley, whaddaya expect? As far as that category of bar & grill goes, and judging against its peers, Cap's is adequate and fine. It's clean and better-kept than I would normally expect in such an environment. I'd label this as a slightly-upscale bowling venue but not fancy by any means. In the midrange of where a bowling alley and attached restaurant ought to be expected to live (not uber-nice but definitely not a dive either). There are several TVs around the bar area tuned to sports and news channels, including one large screen (80" estimated). From the bar area, one can see that there are bowling lanes down below (and hear the ongoing rolls and strikes) but you can't actually see the bowling action from the bar area, even from the high counter tops (slight negative there). The chairs and tables are fine enough (no obvious wear and tear like you might normally expect to find in a bowling alley's dining area). The food choices are ample, if seemingly a tad overpriced for what you'd get. I went with the Mushroom Swiss Burger (1/3 lb) at ~$18. That comes with a side of fries (other substitutions available). The bartender brought out sides of ketchup & ranch without having to be asked. Nice touch! The surrounding neighborhood seems sketchy here. Visiting mostly because my hotel is a short walk away, I arrived late in Sacramento tonight due to an inbound flight delay, and there weren't other obvious dining options closeby. For that scenario, Cap's turned out to be the perfect spot to grab a light bite before turning in for the night. All that in mind, I couldn't possibly envision going out of the way to eat here. If you're staying in this area or are looking for a late but decent meal (kitchen open until 10:30pm), Cap's works great! Convenience: Ok, especially for this part of West Sacramento. Not many options around here, plus short walk to hotels. Ambience: Fine to nice. Clean and well kept. Food: Again, ok. Nothing fancy but a level or two above fast food. Value: A little below average. Spent more than it's worth but not outrageously priced either. read more

I purchased a Groupon a while back and let it expire. The Groupon was only goof on yhe weekends and it was just too hard to get here with kids soccer and other activities. Today I had the chance to try this place and use the $23.00 I originally spent on the Groupon. Fontina was our server. She looked incredibly young, but acted like Flo from Mel's Diner.....great personality and knew the menu well, even though the list is short. I ordered the Breakfast Burger, while the fiancée order the Meat Lovers Omelet. My meal was an open frame, as the hamburger meat tasted old and the English Muffins had that uncooked texture. Cap's chose to use Chef's Quality condiments, such as sweetener and jellies. I went through two things of Apple jelly and one Mixed Fruit before I found one that didn't require a putty knife to spread it on my undertoasted English muffins. Seriously, the consistency was that of putty or tar if you work for CalTrans. The Meat Lovers Omelet was dense with the same old hamburger meat, bacon, onions and cheese. With some ketchup, we powered through it. I won't be back to Capital Bowl anytime soon to eat, butane to bowl a few games. Maybe lunch or dinner is better. Ill have to wait for some reviews. Farm-to-fork lead me and a friend to this classic West Sac location. This was a delightful experience, certainly a real change from my last visit here in the '90's! The refresh of 6 yrs ago still looks new. The food was amazingly fresh and well prepared (and presented). The beer selection was fine - it's "just a bowling alley" after all. The chef, Dave, went all out to make sure that everything was perfect. We started with the Basalmic Chips...topped with blue cheese crumbles. They were crispy, fresh, and oh-so tasty with the Basalmic Gastrique. The tri-tip street tacos included a very nice salsa that was pleasing to a wide variety of palates. The Chicken Parmesan Sandwich was yummy, even through we were truly hitting our capacity by that time. Maybe next time we will try only two items at a time...it was all so good! read more

I work directly across the street from this place on Mondays. It is convenient and from my experience the food is pretty good. I actually look forward to getting lunch there on Mondays. So I call today to order lunch for my crew and I am told they no longer take food orders over the phone. The owner has de idea that since people order and don't show to get the food and pay they no longer take orders over the phone. We'll, being 2021 I would think a prepay would be 3asy to do. Also, there is this thing going around called COVID 19 and I truly don't want to sit around in a bowling alley waiting for my food. I'm just saying. So, it is my thought that this will turn so.e people away. I k ow at least there are about 5 or more from my crew who will not be going there to eat. I was initially pretty skeptical about the food that one would get at a bowling alley in one of the "transitioning" [seedy] parts of West Sac. Walking in, I was thrown off because there was nobody else in there except for a couple who, like me, had brought their Groupon. The bowling alley itself was pretty empty, too, which is a shame, since it looked like a pretty nice bowling alley. It took a little while to find a waiter since it was so deathly quiet in there, but once we found a waiter, ordered, and got the food, I was surprised that it was actually pretty good! I had the breakfast "burger", which had eggs, white sausage gravy, and sausage that was seasoned a lot like a pizza-type sausage, but in one of those Jimmy Dean sausage forms. Also, I saw a few other breakfast entrees pass by that looked equally tasty. The prices were fairly reasonable for brunch (Around the $7-$8 range), and the service was good enough. The place is clean, contemporary and spacious. Perfect for lunch or snack. The kids menu had chicken strips, fries, and drink for $5.95. Good portions and the kids said it was tasty. I had a bowl of chili. Small portion for $5.95, but the flavor made up for it. So often chili has nothing but bend in it but this dish was nothing like that. The dish had plenty of hamburger meat, Cooked onions and tomatoes. It was topped with a generous portion of shredded cheese and onions for garnish/flavor. Had their Jalapeno Burger and Fries.. Burger was great, made perfectly to my taste, fries are delicious. I am told everything except for their jalapeno poppers are fresh made. In my opinion, their prices are fair for being inside of a bowling alley.. I am much used to spending a lot more for subpar food, this however, is great. read more

The bartender was nice and the drinks were reasonably priced. This is definitely one of the nicer bars that I've seen inside of a bowling alley. Usually where I'm from all of the bowling alley bars are filled with cigarette smoke so this was a nice change to be able to order a drink and not have to chug it down to hurry up and get out of there. They serve food too which is really nice being that you don't have to go to two different places to get a drink and food. read more

Bleh....the pizza tasted like chemical. Don't even go there people. I couldn't tell if it was the sauce or the dough. For $5.95 I ordered the pepperoni and could have had the an all meat or combo for $6.95. When I got it I thought well of course it will be loaded with pepperoni ...but just 8 slices of falling of the edge pieces. The taste was so nasty I should have asked for a refund but gave it to a hungry bastard off West Capitol Ave hustling money for a beer. The garden salad was ok but tossed in Ranch. This place has changed alot and for the best! I use to cone here in my teens and it wasn't that's nice but since the remodel they have really stepped there game up. There really making west sacramento and capital ave a much nicer place. Even T.I came and bowled here! Me and a couple of friends came here for happy hour. The beer was good priced 2$ or 3$ depending on the beer and mix drinks cheap. We also got 50 cent hot wings. The hot wings were flavorful and spicy perfect with the beer. It was very laid back and relaxing perfect for after work. They have really made this a new nice place to come and its a great place to enjoy some food and happy hour. Even white is the greatest bartender and waiter I have ever seen or met very knowledgeable on everything and help full ill be spending many days here with the homies after work! read more

Since the remodel this is a great bowling alley to go to. The food is not what you would normally expect at a bowling alley...it is much much better! It is clean and always a good vibe. I am completely underwhelmed and feel extremely taken advantage of today. Came here to watch the game. Ordered a western burger with a turkey patty...only after 10 minutes to be told they are out of turkey patties. So, I have it made with a veggie patty instead. Only they didn't make it a western burger, but the regular Cap's burger. Whatever. I was told they would take it off. Yay, a whole 75 cents taken off and charged for the correct burger. Then charged $4.50 for a "side" of fries. Talked with the manager and told me "We can't do anything more for you. People make mistakes. Well there was no hair in your food." Wow...I will not be back. So for two burgers and two sodas and a side of fries: $27.11. Not worth it. So frustrated!!!!!!! I just want to say that the server was nice, through it all...no complaints there. And the chef was apologetic. It's been over a week and with emailing the company I still have not heard back. Such a bummer. read more

Fantastic place to throw your kid's birthday party. My husband and I threw a birthday gathering for my son and a few of his friends earlier today. It was great experience for my family. We had great customer service from Crystal at the front desk. She made everything so easy for us. My son and his friends enjoyed themselves, they were taking about It the whole ride home. I ate breakfeast here today the service was ok. However when I entered the resturant they told me they were out of pancakes and sausage. This didn't rub me to well. How does a resturant run out of pancakes, its batter for crying out loud. So I ordered a omlet with hashbrowns and toast which was surprisingly good. It came with a screwdriver( o.j and vodka). I grew up in West Sacramento, and have not had a chance to eat at Cap's since the bowling alley remodel. I had an opportunity to eat there today as some friends invited me there to lunch with them. The service is OUTSTANDING! Thank you to our wait staff - Keith - for his attentiveness to detail and one of the friendliest demeanors you could ask for. Two of us ordered the Taco Salad, and one of us added beef, and I added chicken; the other guest ordered a quesadilla, which was made just like in my mom's kitchen. The Taco Salads came in Cap's homemade tortilla bowl, and assembled with love and care by Chef Dave - who, by the way, came by our table after we ate to inquire as to how we liked our meal! That was SOOOO nice! The meal was great, by the way. The chicken was marinated and sliced to perfection on top of my salad, and the rest of the layers were perfectly stacked. The avocados were fresh, and sliced on top of the salad, and I asked for the sour cream on the side, and got a creamy good helping, along with a small bowl of loose black beans which made this lunch perfect. There is a choice between tables/chairs and long, large booths (my preference). It was just a really nice lunch, and I expect to return. read more
