The big burger! Bacon, Onion rings, and quality beef.

We were just passing by on Mothers Day and decided to stop. Glad we did! Everything was freshly cooked, taste was on point and it wasn't crazy expensive. Yes, its in a bowling alley but the food was good, hot, fresh. The cook even checked in with us! We will be back.

Oh-so tasty Balsamic Chips from Dave's kitchen.

Farm-to-fork lead me and a friend to this classic West Sac location. This was a delightful experience, certainly a real change from my last visit here in the '90's! The refresh of 6 yrs ago still looks new. The food was amazingly fresh and well prepared (and presented). The beer selection was fine - it's "just a bowling alley" after all. The chef, Dave, went all out to make sure that everything was perfect. We started with the Basalmic Chips...topped with blue cheese crumbles. They were crispy, fresh, and oh-so tasty with the Basalmic Gastrique. The tri-tip street tacos included a very nice salsa that was pleasing to a wide variety of palates. The Chicken Parmesan Sandwich was yummy, even through we were truly hitting our capacity by that time. Maybe next time we will try only two items at a time...it was all so good!

Liked the Cob salad. Very fresh and big portion. Staff are friendly. It's within walking distance from Home2 Suites and very convenient.

The place reminds me of bars that I would have frequented in my twenties and felt strangely familiar. The bar keep/waiter was super friendly and laid back. Our party of two proceeded to order burgers, mine with regular fries and my dining companion the garlic fries. I made a few substitutions which were quickly accommodated with a smile. The burgers were soooo good! Cooked perfectly to order and the garlic fries are a must. So perfectly garlicky without any bitterness and delightfully delicious. The fries are perfectly between thin and steak, striking a balance that fits just about any preference.

They're known for their burgers, but even without ordering one, everything we tried was delicious. The fried sweet pickles with house-made ranch were my absolute favorite--perfectly crispy and so flavorful. The mac and cheese was rich and homemade-tasting, and the house chips with salsa and beer cheese dip were a great addition. Our friends ordered the mac-and-cheese grilled cheese (yes, really!) and devoured it, and the Reuben was also a huge hit. Definitely an 11/10 experience. We'd absolutely come back if we're in the area again.

Our server was amazing and very attentive. We didn't feel rushed at all and gave us enough time to eat our appetizers and meals. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered for an appetizer the house made focaccia bread and was hot, well seasoned and so fresh. I felt as if it just came out of the oven. The French onion soup was excellent, flavor was on point and soup was hot. The boneless beef braised short rib entree was incredible. I literally licked my plate clean. We did order the bread pudding Togo to eat later since we were so full but didn't care much for it which is a bummer. It was a little dry to me and lacked flavor. I do look forward to coming back! if you haven't tried you must!

The steak was extremely salty, to the point that it overwhelmed the flavor of the beef. On top of that, it was finished with so much alcohol that every bite tasted like liquor instead of steak. Rather than enhancing the dish, it completely overpowered it. For a premium steak at this price point, I expected high-quality execution and balanced flavors. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing steaks I've had, and I left feeling like the meal simply wasn't worth the cost.

We decided for our last night all together we would pick a highly rated one for a special meal. Magpie Cafe right in downtown fit the bill and we were thoroughly impressed by everything. We ordered just about every special plus many other dishes, some multiple, from appetizers through to desserts. It's in a beautiful area of the city, open to the street and green park. We opted to sit outside as it was a lovely evening. The beer menu had some regional favorites, all small and well chosen. For food we went all out, and I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Everything was so colorful and presented beautifully. Highlights were the pickles, fried asparagus, anchovies, and croquettes. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about our dishes, she added to the experience. If you're in the area, this restaurant is worth a stop. They even have a cafe in the airport!

The drink contained gin, strawberry syrup, and fresh lemon basil. It was light and refreshing and the perfect spring summer drink. Then we had the baby eggplant which was marinated in a soy glaze. It also had some sort of peanut sauce base. This was a delightful bite. Both of us were very impressed. The presentation was gorgeous. Clearly still on my eggplant craze. One of the reasons we went to Magpie was for the trout dip. In a shocking turn of events, they didn't have it. I think it was an old menu. Maybe their winter menu. This was a bummer. Instead, they had a salmon dip. We got that, and I wish it was more flavorful/smokey. Normally, I'm not a smokey seasoning person, but I think it goes nicely with fish. The chips though were really good. I love a kettle chip. I thought they would be thicker, since the dip was thicker. I'm glad they served the dip with the spoon. We also had the stone fruit salad. I was shocked it didn't come with a cheese, but after I tasted it, the creamy yogurt successfully filled that void. Once again, the plating was gorgeous. I think the peaches were good, but I can tell that later in the summer, these peaches will be even more delectable. I think the pistachios were an excellent choice to this salad. For my main course, I had the painted hills flat iron steak with a Chimichurri sauce and crispy smashed potatoes. The steak was well cooked, and with the seasoning of the chimichurri, it was a delightful bite. Sam had the gnocchi with pesto and fresh tomatoes. The gnocchi was fluffy. Both she and I thought that the pesto was good, but we both wish that we wish there was more of it. I love pesto though, so I am always going to think that. It came in dollops, rather than mixed in, so I think that was part of the problem. We also had to get dessert. I had the ice cream sandwiches. They were made with lemon thyme shortbread cookies with vanilla Guenther's Ice Cream. I wish it was a stronger vanilla taste or a flavored ice cream. The cookies were too good though. Sam had the lavender panna cotta. Normally I am not a huge panna cotta fan, but this one was delicious. It had such a strong lavender taste, in a good way. It kind of tasted like I was eating lotion because of the thickness of the panna cotta with the lavender flavor.

Everything good that was mentioned was truth! I ordered the Old School burger. Always like to test a new place on the basics. Oh, my! WIN! The house-made 1000 island sauce (subbed instead of mustard), the flavor of the burger patty, freekin sweet pickles on a burger, and a bun that actually holds up until the last bite. I devoured that baby and savored every danged bite! BONUS note: I was dining solo which can often mean meh service. Alyanna didn't miss a beat. From the minute I walked in, I felt like her only mission was to make sure my dinner and experience were top tier (not that she snubbed her other guests, but she really made me feel welcome). Another note: I've made sweet pickles (often called bread-and-butter pickles) since childhood, and I know good ones. These had the perfect tang-to-sweet ratio and were snappy and crisp. SOOOO much better than dill pickles on a burger. Good call, 319! FEEDBACK? My only suggestion to elevate the burger to the stratosphere would be iceberg lettuce, the really crispy parts, instead of green leaf. That would add one more notch of texture and oooomph to an already great bite. AHHHnold verdict: I'll be baaaaaaaaaack.

My mother-in-law went to find a staff person and they pointed us to a table with a reserved sign. It took awhile before our table was acknowledged, but we did eventually receive menus and have our drink orders taken. This certainly isn't a place to eat when you're in a hurry. Again, there was a lag between our drinks being ordered and coming out to the table. The cocktails themselves were very enjoyable and well crafted. The drinks and some appetizers held us over until dinner came out. Overall, the food turned out to be worth the wait! That was a pleasant surprise after the service started out so roughly. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and that was enough to bring this dinner up from a 3 to a 4 star experience! I really hope they're able to hire in more staff because they serve some great food and beverages.

The interior is dark and light simultaneously, with its rich textiles and colors, high ceilings and the large south-facing window on the long exterior wall. Really nicely done and quite inviting. Travis mixed up what could very well have been the best Old Fashioned we've ever had. It's not my preferred cocktail, but if more were like this one, that may be another story. I opted for the Kumquat Kiss, which was delicious and different. Besides that Old Fashioned, the Hash Brown Lyonnaise really stole the show. Pillow-light hash brown sticks (how did they do that?!) with a scrumptious onion dip with crispy shallots and finely chopped chives. This is one of my top happy hour dishes of the year. Just wow! Try it yourself and tell me you don't agree. The Grilled Prawns missed the mark for me a bit, although the husband liked them. Tasty, but just not as much of a star as the other dish. Only suggestion is to have a happy hour menu for bites as well as beverages, as is found on the website. This would help avoid the need for staff to present a dinner menu (which admittedly, I was confused by) and acknowledge that the first course options are all available but at no happy hour discount (which felt a bit awkward for all involved). Overall, a delightful discovery!
