Five Oaks Taproom is located in the IHG Indigo Hotel in the historic district in Savannah, which is where we were staying, so this restaurant and bar came handy. Although the service was top notch, the food and drinks were A-OK. With Savannah being such a food haven, I suspect only hotel guests dine and drink here. We came to the bar a few times where it was fun, especially when the bartender, Allie was working. She was super funny and friendly, and remembered hotel guests, which put a personal touch on the experience. The bar itself is not the largest, but has ample room for those getting drinks. There were TVs playing sports and when the place got muggy one day, they brought in a huge fan. Beer on tap was meh. Not a large selection of crafts. Good luck getting a good IPA. The restaurant was A-OK. We dined in for breakfast one day and on another day, I was able to get a breakfast meal to go for my flight home. The food wasn't bad, but not the best. I ordered the crab benedict, which was crab on top of a fried green tomato with a slight zesty aioli. Because of how rich the entrée was, it needed some bread or something lighter to cut through. My breakfast wrap was satisfactory. It had sausage, eggs, cheese, grilled onions and peppers. All in all, Five Oaks Taproom is primarily here for hotel guests, so expect a hotel bar and restaurant. Restaurant week is so hawt right now... it's really "in" through 9 February. That said, I figured I'd take the opportunity to explore a place I haven't tried. I was a bit apprehensive because of the most recent terrible reviews and the overall rating of the place. I decided to be daring and take a risk for myself. This restaurant is located in the Indigo Hotel. You can use their valet or the parking garage right across the street. I made a reservation through open table. They accommodated my wish to be in a booth. The waitress was very friendly and speedy with everything. To start, they bring out rolls. I think a couple of them were a bit stale or over toasted. I couldn't tell which. The restaurant week menu is what lured me in. I ordered the truffle potato soup (yum!), the Gouda-bacon-chicken Mac and cheese, and the tiramisu. I wasn't disappointed at all. In fact I was pleasantly surprised... probably because I did have low expectations going in. The pasta was so gooey and delicious and a heaping serving, which I got to bring home. The tiramisu was really good, no complaints. They did have some interesting cocktails on their normal menu, but I settled for moscato. They had outlets in the booths for chargers. But, the cheesecake was good, it was more of a dense cheesecake than a light one and had strawberries with it. The service has been always been nice and helpful, but the food is just okay. This review is based on my alcohol experience only, I've never eaten one bite of food here, but getting back to the subject of my experience, I did get smashed. I grabbed a seat at the bar after checking in the hotel to map out the plan for the evening. These two gals are not simply pouring booze in a glass they are crafting magic over ice. After a few mules the atmosphere drastically improved here without much prodding, as the bar filled up the interaction between the customers and the staff only got better. Although it was a rather blustery evening here in Savannah most of the participants this afternoon were from the northern half of the US and you would of swore they were having umbrella laced cocktails at a Tiki Bar a few thousand mile south of Savannah. Not sure why it was so quiet (Labor Day evening?), but what a treat! Service was excellent and food spectacular. Hummus, bacon lollis, chicken chicharrones cooked to perfection and if you're into your bacon, chicken skin and hummus you won't be disappointed! The burger with pork belly and egg was moist and juicy and paired with the perfect bun. Grilled Caesar was as described and my daughter has concluded that she doesn't like warm salads. This was my first time in Savannah and stumbled into this place. It is a fairly new spot right off of river street. The atmosphere was low key yet trendy. The bar tender was knowledgeable about cocktails and made a great old fashioned for my boyfriend. I got a Moscow mule that was delicious and refreshing. We sat at the large bar. The rest of the restaurant was a mix of couches, arm chairs and tables. We were here at 8pm on a Tuesday and it was pretty dead. We got the kale and roasted article dip and it was good but tasted a little like flavored cream cheese. They gave a small amount of bread for the amount of dip but the bartender kindly got us more warm bread for the dip. All in all this is a greet place to have a few drinks, apps and hang out! Food review. If you're going for just the beer, might as well skip me unless "I had one and it was good" is helpful to you. Showed up and they ignored us, so I after about 5 minutes asked an employee if they were open. Just kind of a hi, we're here, would you care for our business. They were! Off we went to our table. The small menu was out of the first three things we tried to order, were I to guess, probably for quite a while. They had been open for about an hour and a half and we were the only people there on a busy street, which was becoming less of a mystery as to why. My burger was... alright. It's the 2 here, I ate more of it than I didn't so I can't really justify the 1 bomb. Girlfriends sandwich had about half a jar of mayo on it and looked like the end of a porno when she first bit into it, my parents got salads that looked brutal and I'm guessing since about 80% of each wasn't eaten were. By far the most underrated restaurant in Savannah. This gem is located inside the Hotel Indigo downtown on Ellis Square and Bay St. My wife and I had their fantastic take on shrimp and grits as an appetizer. When it came out I thought we had accidentally ordered an extra entree. We followed it up with the grilled caesar salad, which was probably the best caesar i've ever had with blistered tomatoes and my new favorite caesar dressing. I had the Southern potato gnocchi, which was amazing, but when i saw the brisket with blue corn grits at the table next to me, I knew what I was getting next visit. The best part is that most of the items on the menu are sourced from local suppliers. I was a little concerned about prices before we dined since it is located inside a hotel, but compared to what many of the other restaurants in this city cost I was surprised that our entire meal with appetizer, 2 entrees, and drinks was roughly $50. (Keep in mind we went during their daily happy hour so our drinks were 1/2 price!) There is no onsite free parking since it is in a hotel but there is tons of city parking all around the building that is free after 5 and on weekends anyway. So do yourself a favor and next time you are downtown give this place a try. You definitely won't regret it. read more

I saw the pork belly with hopping John (that I've been craving for a while) meal so I ordered that and he ordered the beer cheese pretzel app for himself. It was ready within 20 minutes as advertised but the food lacked seasoning. The hopping john was more like vegetable rice over a mushy creamed corn spread. The pork belly was tough and flavorless. He wasn't too impressed with the pretzels either. We assumed that maybe because the kitchen/restaurant was going to close within 30-60 minutes that we didn't get the best. Five Oaks Taproom is an absolute gem in the Savannah Historic District! The restaurant is within the new Hotel Indigoon Bay Street, giving Five Oaks a perfect safe, walkable, and centralized location. The decor is modern upscale, and the bar area is absolutely stunning. The food is really what stands out, especially for the very low prices given the surrounding restaurants. I stayed here with friends right after Hurricane Matthew, and given Chatham County's curfew, we had to eat in the restaurant the first few nights as we were always too late for anywhere else! All in all, we've had the southern potato gnocchi which was superbly interesting, the grilled caesar salad with the BEST grilled juicy shrimp I've EVER had (which is a lot), the smooth and tasty black eyed pea hummus served with perfectly grilled and seasoned pitas, the perfect take on the 'fresh catch of the day' BLT sandwich, the 'fresh catch of the day' entree which was local Tilefish escabeche, and the arugula and proscuitto flatbread was the perfect appetizer. The Chef is very familiar with his food and clearly heavily involved in each day's offerings, many of which are locally sourced. The service was superb, and the bartenders very knowledgeable and creative. I know I will be back and can't wait to show off my 'find' to friends! read more
