Once a week I drive 45 miles from Kittanning to Pittsburgh to go to 5 points. I purchase croissants, baguettes and various cookies. I lived in Paris for 11 years and can tell you the croissants are equal or better than I purchased in Paris. the baguettes are crusty torpedoes on the outside and soft and enticing on the inside. Can I just give ten stars out of five? I have been getting the multigrain bread and the baguette for a while now, and I already had a crush on this place. Yesterday I bought the rye bread (the round one) for the first time, and now there is no turning point: I am head over heels in love with this bakery. I have not eaten such good rye bread since I was in Vienna. I am forever grateful that the owner decided to move to Pittsburgh to open this bakery! Five Points is a hidden gem in Squirrel Hill. The staff there are always nice and help me decide what to get whenever I can't decide. My favorite items to get there are the multigrain sourdough bread which combines by two loves in one carbohydrate product. If you're running late or are afraid that the type of bread you like will run out, you can always call ahead and ask them to put it aside for you. They also offer pastries with seasonal products and coffee. Definitely a must-stop place to get your bread fix! read more

I have scoured Pittsburgh for authentic, naturally leavened sourdough and nothing comes close to Five Points. I am an artisan baker myself, focusing on Tartine-style loaves in the tradition of Chad Robertson. When I don't have time to make my own I go to Five Points. The baguettes are from a traditional yeasted dough with a boldly baked yet thin, crackly crust and moist, open cell crumb . . . just perfect (best eaten the same or next day). Heard about this bakery from some friends and finally made it over there...YAY! Awesome bread, especially the sourdough! (The Challah is pretty great, too!) Also LOVE the giant cookies, especailly the chocolate chunk. Soft, and chewy on the inside and just a little crisp on the outside. I. Love. This. Bakery. I've tried their croissants and cookies, both of which are amazing. The croissant is delicious, flakey, and buttery (is that a word?). The cookie has the right amount of sugar - absolutely perfect. Just a note, this bakery is NOT a well-kept secret, so they start running out of goods around the afternoon. Therefore, if you want to make sure you get everything that they offer, make sure to get there before 2 pm. From the olive oil citrus scones to the morning buns to our twice a week baguette habit, nothing has been less than amazing. I'm pleased to say that this is an establishment that lives up to it's yelp hype. It's not fussy and the offerings are diverse enough but overall, the menu is simple. You can expect the favorites (Chocolate croissants, croissants, morning buns, etc) to sell out every day, usually before noon or even before 10am. The cookies seem to hang around all day and are very tasty and classic with a unique twist. The chocolate rye cookie tastes like a flourless chocolate cake in cookie form with a molasses note. It's a favorite of my kids. They also love the ginger molasses which is one of the best bakery cookies in the burgh in my opinion. Tastes like something that came from a French grandma's kitchen. The snickerdoodle is fluffy and crispy and the chocolate chip is a basic classic but not as good as the other offerings. The chocolate croissant is better than any you've had in a Pittsburgh bakery with beautiful buttery lamination, large air pockets, and perfectly bittersweet chocolate. The baguettes inspire lines during busy weekends and out the door in the dozens for holidays. There was near hysteria over Christmas with those that wanted baguettes for holiday gatherings. The good news is, Five Points takes orders in advance and they even offer holiday specialties. They have many loyal patrons that place daily orders for croissants and baguettes. In addition, they have a few simple but delicious sandwiches that are ready around 10am or slightly after and they are often completely gone before 1pm. The vegetable is my favorite, with arugula, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers and maybe another pickled veggie or two. (They used to serve this with a little pickled cauliflower and it was to die for so I hope they go back to it!) I very much disliked the tofu kimchi bahn mi but I didn't find it to lack quality, I simply don't care for heavy use of fish sauce. I also did not enjoy my piece of quiche enough to finish it because it felt a little bland and heavy, almost soggy, though again, quality ingredients and techniques were clearly used. Overall, the bakers at Five Points are genuine artisans who show up at work early and crank out consistent quality. Was disappointed - so kind of confused as to all the rave reviews. Went in to try a bunch of different cookies. With SO MANY amazing cookies around the world (and available tutorials) there is no need to have a mediocre cookie. All of them tasted stale and were perhaps from the day prior. The chocolate chip had almost no chocolate and the base was bland. The snicker doodle had no flavor punch... The ginger spice did taste more fresh than the others and had a good mixture of spice to sweet ratio. The bread looked great, but didn't try. Perhaps that is what the rep is based on... read more

I am just adding my two cents to the already stellar reviews that Five Points have received. I LOVE this place and the lovely awesome things they make... some of my favs are the rosemary shortbread cookie (a $1 treat when you had no intention of eating anything on the way home), their French sandwich bread is buttery and perfect for a chicken salad sandwich, their olive loaf and pastries and small quiches. Everything is spot on and delicious! One thing I wish, now that they have been open a while, is that they would get an inside table when they have the others outside... a couple more places to sit would be nice! read more

One of the best bakery's in town. A bitt less selection than Allergro Hearth, but it has its own flavor. The croissants are ALWAYS sold out, even when I arrive as early as 8am, so I cannot comment on the deliciousness that other yelper have said. I have tried the chocolate chip cookie, and its great (but not mind-blowing) I like their short-cake cookies, esp the floral and tea flavored ones. The breakfast pastries are amazing. I wish i could come more, but it does not have as great of hours as Allergro Hearth, which is why I go there more. Also no bread punch cards. Speaking of bread, I tried the nut bread. It was pretty good. I wish they had more sweet breads like cinnamon raisin (or cranberry/pecan/date) bread. read more

The best bread and croissants in Pittsburgh. My husband and I love bread, eat a lot of it, and have high standards for it as a result. Generally, I bake our bread. We moved from San Francisco, where we enjoyed the famous Tartine and Josey Baker breads on special occasions, and were eager to check out the local bakeries in Pittsburgh. We were so happy to find Five Points and have enjoyed every bread we've gotten there. We usually get the sourdough or multigrain sourdough and are also big fans of the fougasse. Their croissants (plain and almond) are phenomenal. You have to go early on the weekend or you won't get one. (Same goes for chocolate chip cookies.) I will confess it's hard to pick "The best" croissant in Pittsburgh, since Gourmandine has exceptional croissants, too. read more

Really glad I stopped by! Got loaves of multigrain and raisin walnut and had them cut it for me. Both loaves of bread​ are AMAZING and very high quality. The staff is also very friendly and answered any questions I had. I put the bread in freezer bags and now any time I want a slice I can grab one from the freezer and toast it up. this shop is such a hidden gem!!! i stopped in with my mom today & we loved everything about it. everybody was friendly & helpful, and their selection was great! i had a vegan cranberry & almond cookie & my mom had a chocolate chip cookie, both were insanely good. i also got an oat milk latte with vanilla and i couldn't get enough. they also handle social distancing protocol so well, i felt really safe there. i will definitely be back!! read more

This place just opened right across the street from my house which is awesome (or terrible for my health). They are next to a small gym too so I supposed you could have a pastry then work it off right after ;) They just opened a week or so ago so their selection is currently a little limited but what they had there appeared of high quality, including a selection of pastries, fresh breads (including french baguettes), cookies, and quiche. They said they would start to offer a couple of sandwiches soon too and they also had brewed coffee (but no espresso options I could see). There is a small seating area available inside. The person who helped me (maybe the owner?) was very friendly and happy to tell me about all his offerings and they had a couple things out to sample. I'd probably give them 4 stars for the limited offerings but since they just opened and are working on expanding I'll give them 5 stars for now and I'll definitely be checking back later! read more

This bakery has been around for a year or so now. The bread is really good, top notch in fact but the pastries are not great. It funny because when they opened the cookies, which are large in size were a $1.25. In less than a year, they jumped to $2.00. That's really pricey for a cookie that's just ho hum. Sometimes the "chocolate chip" cookies have a burnt taste. They did have all the basics but ditched the peanut butter cookie a few month's ago, stating that, "they couldn't get the recipe right". Huh??? What bakery doesn't have peanut butter cookies? Probably were getting flack from someone with a peanut allergy who got sick, is my guess and didn't want to get sued. The scones are tasteless, don't bother and definitely avoid the bran muffins which have the taste and consistency of saw dust. read more
