All in all a great spot for a drinking night - they had some pretty creative cocktails - wife ordered the miduri and the egg white cocktail which was great (more on the sweet side) and I got the southern boy which was more on the sour side and came at a pretty nice mug.our friends took a glass of rose (thumbs up) and a whisky raspberry cocktail - also very tasty . Tiki time in San Jo?! I know this isn't a tiki bar, but this place had me feeling like a tiki princess after sippin' on their deliciously sexy cocktails! After attending the Gilroy Garlic festival, I decided to stop off for a quick night cap in San Jose. I was feeling tiki and searched for a tiki bar nearby the in area. Unfortunately, the tiki bar scene is pretty sparse out in San Jo. However when Five Points popped up on my search, I knew I just had to stop by. The pictures of the lovely looking cocktails alone was enough to reel me in. It was a Sunday evening and although I was limited to street parking, I was able to find parking quickly. When I opened the door, I felt like I had just walked into a 1920's movie set! The place was absolutely adorable! It has a nice old school feel with a retro setup that will instantly put you into relaxation mode. There is a beautiful private room to your left that is decorated with the fanciest vintage decor! It's designed like an office with red velvet drapes and large cherry wood bookshelves that are lined with with novels and mini antique statues. The chandelier that hangs above the table is absolutely beautiful! The bar is just gorgeous! It is also comprised of a vintage style cherrywood with the back drop of the bar also resembling that of a library with bookshelves that are lined with bottles of alcohol! The bar is lit up by fluorescent back lights, but the most adorable feature is the wooded library latter! It just seals the deal! Opposite of the bar is the brick wall backdrop lined with booths and tables. The drinks are just phenomenal! I opted for the Paradise Square and the Bitter Beach cocktail, both of which were delightfully tasty! The bitter beach was a bit more potent as it consisted of Jaegermeister, pineapple, lemon, curaçao, and Demerara. I thoroughly enjoyed the Paradise Square! This cocktail seems to be a crowd favorite and consists of vodka, pineapple, lime, orange blossom, and egg white. It was just the amount of "tiki" and tropical that I needed! It was beautifully presented, tasty, and refreshing! The bartenders here are super friendly and quick with their service. This bar was pretty lively, even for a Sunday night! They have a TV for those wonderful game nights and they also serve food, but I wasn't hungry so I passed on it. The live band that performed was awesome! They even took requests which I thought was super dope! Overall, I had an amazing time here and I'm totally looking forward to coming back during my next visit to San Jose! read more

I was looking around for a venue to host my boyfriend's 30th birthday party when I found Five Points. I contacted the owner Dave, via their website, and he got back to me super quick. From there, I worked with their manager, Jason, throughout the whole process. I ended up booking the Bowery Room (which is like a private speakeasy) for the whole night and the rental rate was pretty fair for everything they provided us that night (reserved tables in the main bar, private bartenders, servers, security, wristbands, and even let us use their polaroid camera & films). Jason and his team were super awesome, accommodating, and easy to work with. They just wanted to make sure we had a great time, which we absolutely did! The bartender even helped me put up my decors and Jason found me a "30th" birthday candle because I forgot to bring mine. Everyone had a blast and I love that they allowed us to have a few customized drinks on the menu. This was my absolute favorite spot pre-covid and when things finally opened up I along with my girlfriends were eager to come back here again. However the night of 8/27 was a complete turn around. My girlfriends and I had just came from eating dinner after attending music in the park. We were laughing and dancing as we were headed to our favorite bar. We began handing our IDs to the bouncer when they said I could not go in . I could not understand what we/I really did wrong that led him to make his poor judgement. We chose to speak with the manager or head security guard who my other girlfriend calmly and genuinely tried to understand their reasoning. All he could say was that they had the right to refuse anyone they "deemed to not be OK" , but NO actual points were made. They have a back entrance which we actually were let in with no hesitation. If we were truly not deemed to be "OK" to enter the other guard should have had the same judgment , but it was by far not the case . I had never felt so humiliated and up to now I don't even know what was done wrong. Was it that we laughed a little too hard ? Was it that we were too eager ? We know one of the bartenders who can attest that we are not those "crazy wild drunk adults" . The security guards here have the worst sense of judgment . read more

I liked this pub with a speakeasy feel. It had a secret back room next to the toilet (for private parties) and a separate front room next to the window (I guess for less private parties). The mixed drinks were fun and even though they were not cheap, they were very reasonably priced for the good quality and tastiness. I tried the whiskey sour, the flaming punch and a concoction of pineapple, coconut and something magical. All very good and mixed well with the of the lace, the group I was with and live jazz music. I can't remember the names of my drink but I got the one with cucumber and egg white and it was just the right amount of sweetness. Came around 5pm on a Saturday and my (quite thirsty) party of 15 started ordering beers, cocktails, and a punch bowl-- bartenders seamlessly cranked out drinks quickly. -Drinks- The Paradise Square is a great cocktail for those that enjoy egg white. Mulberry bend cobbler had a refreshing berry taste to it. I believe we had the Smuggler's punch bowl which had an interesting smokey twist to it, but nonetheless strong in alcohol content. It was the most classy punch bowl I've seen since it came with a set of fancy tea cups. We ended up asking for straws to go for the good ol' communal fishbowl style ;) I can easily see Five Points becoming one of my favorite cocktail bars as it has a similar feel to 55 south and paper planes. Cool, more than fair, I appreciated the gesture and said that I would take him on it. That was 20 days ago and he hasn't replied since, even to a follow up message letting him know my friend was back in town last weekend and I'd like the credit to take him out. You know what's worse than a shitty experience? Apologizing for it then offering a promise you don't deliver on. This is a very cool place to stop and grab a drink if you are in the area. They have an exciting variety of whiskey, rye, and bourbon cocktails to chose from (as well as beer of course). The prices are very reasonable and the staff was very friendly. This place gets very crowded on weekend evenings so be prepared to wait for a place to sit or to be able to order if you go in then. Unfortunately I don't remember my bartender's name probably cause I was kinda tipsy, but he gave the best service with recommendations tailored to me! After describing to him my liquor and drink preferences he made me a cocktail that was so yummy I literally chugged it and then I ordered two more. And I'm not usually a fast drinker. I like my cocktails sweet and he said he had made them a bit sweeter "just for me." But objectively the ingredients in the cocktails complemented each other very well. In addition the inside of the establishment is decorated so tastefully. It felt almost vintage and I mean that in the best way. You'll find that the drinks here are about the same price as other bars in downtown, but they are much prettier to look at, a helluvalot stronger, and just...tastier. Better made. Furthermore, the professionals on the clock here are more personable than average. The guy making our drinks was hardcore into silly sayings of low budget films, so we kept going back and forth on those. Fun times with a good friend in an interesting place. This review is for the virtual mixology class we took for a work holiday party. Planning the event: call them directly to get started. I sent an email and submitted a request through the website but didn't hear back from anyone after 48 hours even though I got an auto response email saying someone would be in contact after 24 hours. After finally getting in touch with the event planner, it was very hard to get updates or follow ups moving forward. It took over a week for her to confirm they received our deposit. Their portal couldn't take payment at the time so I filled out the credit card form and email it to her. One week before the event I reached out again asking if she will be mailing out the kits soon because she didn't ask for any addresses at this point. Another 48 hours pass and I made several calls to try to get in contact with her. Some packages arrived 2-3 days before the event while others never arrived or arrived day of. Since some of the attendees were local, she was able to drop off a replacement set the day of the event. There were some technical difficulties on their end with zoom at the start of our event. But we weren't informed and waited about 15 minutes before we finally connected with the host. Finally the event: Eric our bartender made it really fun and informative for everyone (even for those who don't usually drink). He was really knowledgeable with the drinks we made and was easy to chat with. Kind of made you feel like you were at a bar again. It's a fun event for these COVID times. Planning was not ideal and could use improvement on their communication. The kits they provided were a really nice touch and it was like a small gift for everyone. read more

Monday night I came out and there was a fantastic jazz band playing. I order a soda water and lime $5, ok I'm cool with a highball glass of soda water. When I ask for a refill they wanted to charge another $5 for a refill. I have worked in the service industry for 8 years, mainly as a bartender, and have never been charged like that for soda water from the gun...at least throw a pellegrino bottle out or something. Went in last night on Halloween, I understand it's packed and the bartenders are stressed, but the woman who made my friend and I drinks was EXTREMELY rude for no reason. We were waiting for her to finish making other people's drinks, just watching; we were even giving a friendly smile, and the woman said "is there a problem?" (while smiling??) so I assumed she thought we had too much to drink and wanted to make sure we were okay; but we JUST got there and hadn't even started drinking yet. So WE say "no" still smiling. I then complimented her costume because it was cute and she rolled her eyes. Then she proceeds to say "you guys are mean mugging the fuck out of me right now so I'm just returning the favor". We were caught SO off guard and completely confused. All we were doing was waiting and being patient. Then we order drinks, my friend orders some shots then says "and something else" AND POINTS TO ME, which is when I stepped in and ordered MY mixed drink. The bartender then asks several times "and what else?" so I repeat myself 3 times and she said "I heard you! I'm not talking to you I'm talking to your friend" but she had already ordered shots and that was it for her?? My friend says "what is happening, why are we arguing?" because it literally did NOT make sense. The bartender shrugged. Then they got into it a little. The bartender got very hostile and condescending and straight up rude. "I don't have to serve you" "I know it's not my fault, you're the one who needs to be speak up" and all this other stuff.
