When they opened the San Mateo location, we were super stoked! Pros of this location: - Free parking! - Overflow room for busy weekends My SO and I have different opinions on if the room shape at SM is more beneficial than the BG location. Truthfully, I was scared and babying my knee, and I started to gain weight. I joined ClassPass to try out different studios and gyms. I had actually tried Basecamp back when it first opened in Burlingame, and it terrified me--but I decided to give it a second chance, and I'm so glad I did. I took my first few classes through ClassPass and eventually decided that when my membership ended, I was going to sign up and become a member. Wendy was amazing at explaining everything thoroughly, and everyone there is so welcoming. They even knew my name before I knew theirs--it kind of felt like Cheers: "Where everybody knows your name" (lol). Every single coach I've interacted with or taken a class has been nothing short of amazing. Jerileen, Lacey, Alicia, and Angeline: they'll never know how much they've motivated me and how much of an impact they've had on my health, fitness, and recovery. I'm so glad I joined--and you should too. I've also taken a class at the Burlingame location, which I loved as well. They were just as nice. It just happens that the San Mateo location is on my way home or to work, and I really like the vibe and how welcoming it I am down 10 pounds since I've joined my biggest advice don't feel overwhelmed become friends with your neighbor or your partner and they can guide you. Despite everything, Nico kept me grounded, positive, and focused. Workouts, macros, water, protein, protein, PROTEIN! He has a way of keeping you in the game even when life is throwing everything at you. This session had a tighter timeline -- I was prepping for a very special family event -- so the approach was more of a sprint compared to the gradual builds we've done in past sessions. Different, but it worked. And the real test? Traveling right before the event -- no gym, couldn't track macros, water intake was a mess -- and I still felt AMAZING. I showed up feeling like the best version of myself. That is 100% because of Nico. He is more than a trainer. He's a coach, a cheerleader, and an inspiration. The tools and mindset he's given me go beyond any single goal because at the end of the day, this is a lifestyle. If you're looking for someone who will truly invest in YOU -- not just your workouts -- Nico is your person.

Nico was super nice in the beginning, but as time passed, he started being pretty rude and condescending in his replies to me. After about 6 weeks, I decided I didn't feel comfortable proceeding with a person who didn't welcome my communication.

I showed up 5 minutes early and instead of focusing on onboarding or safety, the staff prioritized forcing me to create a marketing account and hand over my email before class. Nobody asked about **my knee pain** or offered workout modifications like Basecamp or Burlingame Fitness did. I was thrown into a dark room mid-class with no idea where my station was, what weights to use, or even how to start(!) the treadmill, while the oversized class made it impossible for the instructor to notice I was struggling. I had to stop multiple times just to change weights and restart. Change and restart. In the end, I lost the class credit and time. My schedule can get busy, and having the flexibility to book sessions whenever it works for me has made it so much easier to stay consistent. The concept of infrared sauna workouts is something you truly have to experience to understand. You're in a private sauna room choosing from multiple guided sessions, everything from yoga and Pilates to high-intensity interval training (HIIT). No matter which workout I choose, I leave drenched in sweat but in the best way possible. What really stands out is how I feel afterward. Instead of feeling completely drained like some traditional workouts, I feel relaxed, lighter, and almost reset. The infrared heat helps reduce soreness, speeds up recovery, and gives you that detox feeling that makes your body feel refreshed from the inside out. It's the perfect combination of intense and therapeutic. Now let me talk about Neil L. phenomenal doesn't even begin to describe him. He took the time to personally show us around, explain how each session works, and break down how to maximize results. He wasn't just giving a tour; he was educating us. He shared tips on how to structure workouts, how to stay consistent, and how to really push ourselves while still listening to our bodies. His encouragement genuinely motivates you to try your best. What I also appreciated was how knowledgeable he is about their products. He doesn't "sell" you he explains how everything supports your goals. From supplements to recovery tools, he connects it all back to performance and consistency, which honestly makes you want to invest in yourself and keep showing up. The atmosphere at HOTWORX Belmont is clean, modern, and empowering. You feel like you're part of something focused on growth and wellness. If you're looking for a workout that makes you sweat, detox, recover faster, and actually feel good afterward this is it. Highly recommend HOTWORX Belmont and especially Neil L. for the outstanding customer care and support!

Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.

I called the club and spoke to Ethan, the manager, and explained I wanted to put my membership on hold till I could come back. He took a look at my account and saw that I hadn't been at the club in six months and, after getting a doctors letter, gave SIX MONTHS CREDIT. I was flabbergasted. Who does nice things like this any more. I started in early January and won't have to pay dues until July. Ethan, Will and all the other staff are amazing as are the members I have met there. 2026 is off to a great start!!!

I arrived about 10 minutes early, thinking I would get a quick tutorial but I did not. Of course I have seen pilates in videos before, but did not know the terms or how to use the reformer properly. I just went with the flow of class and what the instructor was saying. From time to time, she did come to correct me, but otherwise who knows if I was doing the moves correctly. I've tried so many group classes (kick boxing, cycling, group power, HIIT, yoga, etc) but never stayed with any, until now! I started with one class per week and now I make time to go three times, along with my other activities. I have tried 4 other Pilates studios in the PA/MP/RWC area and rocksalt is my favorite in terms of overall quality of the workout and value. Love the vibe. The owner, Christine, is a literal rockstar, absolute best! She's so fit and strong - inspiration to us all! Her classes are energetic, challenging yet fun! She was my first class and SOLD me! I feel so good and proud of myself after each workout. Also love Ruth and Marissa but all her instructors are awesome! Studio is clean, tidy and welcoming. Christine owns both the RWC and MP I've always been average build and a healthy weight. I was active and my goals were to tone up and build strength and rocksalt did that for me! Even my critical Asian mother approves - this is huge! Couple tips for newbies: 1. There are three types of classes (all 50 minutes): stretch, strength, sweat. They all have a combo of cardio and strength, depending on the type of class, the emphasis is where it differs. For your first one, I recommend "stretch". 2. Take it easy. Each instructor will give modifications for different levels. I also love that they are very gentle and discreet when correcting your form (that was me a lot in the beginning!) Don't be discouraged if you cannot do everything. 3. Pay attention to the instructor's direction on form/placement. Eg feet under the silver footbar, don't go past the shoulders. These make a huge difference. 4. Give it at least 3 classes. After my first class, I was super sore! I felt so challenged. But I persevered and so glad I did! (after 2 months, even my friends complimented that I was more toned) 5. Come early for your first class so the instructor can show you the basics. Pilates reformer classes are one of the best investments I've made for my health. I also truly enjoy the classes and being inspired by others (ladies much older than me in better shape and way stronger!). Hope this was helpful!

I've been going to this boxing gym for about 5 months now and consider this my home boxing gym…read more I've been to other "fitbox" gyms that come nowhere close to the quality of instruction you get from the experienced trainers at B Street Boxing. The gym atmosphere is welcoming to all attendees and there is a strong sense of community among the regulars. As for the gym itself, there are lots of heavy bags spaced throughout the gym and two boxing rings against the far wall. This is a place where you will learn real boxing! Most of the gym goers here are men (there are separate kids' classes too) and as a woman, that has never bothered me. Everyone is respectful, helpful, and very kind. People practice good sportsmanship and aren't looking to "prove" anything. There are several instructors and I've enjoyed classes with every one I've tried so far (Eddie, Val, Ritesh). Each instructor has a different teaching style and area of expertise, so you can learn something from everyone. Boxing classes are mostly bag work, with occasional partner work. Every so often there is also no contact/light contact sparring in the ring. It may seem intimidating at first, but everyone here prioritizes safety, and it's nice to put the skills you've practiced to the test. Overall you get a great mix of different aspects of boxing to work on--punches, combos, defense, footwork, etc, all while building up stamina. Classes usually wrap up with core work or other exercises off the bag. You will work hard! Take water breaks if you need. The coaches here also do private training for competitive fighting, for those interested. For people looking to learn a new sport from instructors that have spent time in the ring, look no further. This is a safe and welcoming place to learn.

I tried out a few boxing gyms before settling here. The other gyms had nicer facilities and had…read moremore people (although I've ben going during working hours so take this with a heavy grain of salt). But for me, this is the gym to go to in the Bay Area. Why? In coming to a boxing gym, I wasn't just looking for a workout. Yes, I want to get in shape. But you can do that in any number of ways. I also wanted to learn how to box. How to throw a cross, a jab, how to slip, how to measure distance. In other gyms I went to, it's basically a Barry's bootcamp with a heavy bag. You do an exercise routine that also has some punching. And it's great exercise! But at B Street, you not only get a hard, hard workout, but also a lot of coaching. In my first week (which was free), they started by showing me all the basic moves. Where to put my hands, how to move my feet. When I got some gear, they showed me how to wrap my hands. And during class, they not only take you through a high intensity workout routine, but also step in to make sure you're moving your body correctly, keeping your guard up. You'll get time in the ring with the coaches to do pad work and feel what it's actually like to have to move around an opponent and measure out your distance (this is *very* different from bag work!). You can even spar if you want, but I haven't got to this point yet and will probably hold off until I get into better shape. The coaches are all awesome, definitely know what they're talking about, and are incredibly nice. They meet you where you are and work from there. They're not afraid to push you to your limits, but never in a way that's mean or disrespectful. The community is also an awesome surprise. Everyone I've met there has been really nice and willing to take a second to help out a beginner with some basic tips. No egos or anything, just good people trying to help each other out. If you get in at the right time, you can also see B Street's Amateur team at work! No shortage of talent at this gym. Plus, they only charge $125/month. The bang for the buck is definitely there. Tl;dr - If you're looking for a boxing gym that will actually teach you something, this is the place to go.
