After recieving a couple quotes from local and big box stores, I decided on hiring Five Star Flooring. I chose them for a couple reasons: Their prices were competitive, the showroomstaff was great (I worked w/ Alicia) , and they carry reputable brand names. Additionally, they worked with me on finding the exact color and look in the brand and materials I liked, by ordering samples (not available in their showroom) from their Sales Rep. As for the installation, they installed about 800 Sqft of water resistant laminate in my home. It took 2 guys in 2 days to complete my project. The installers were professional, quick, kept us informed throughout the process, and did a phenomenal job. I absolutely love my floors and I'm so happy I chose them. read more

Flooring is beautiful but the process was chaotic and messy. Over promised and under delivered. Damages to my furniture and filth left in the bathrooms and trash from lunches tucked in corners. My whole house was torn up, done done one room at a time was promised. Terrible communication. Stair railing's was damaged as well. Toilet paper holder was broke and left as though nothing was wrong. And they blew a fuse to the house and never told us and we had to reset it later that night. I'm glad it's all done but the process was a heart ache. read more

Two were close and one thought I was Rockefeller. a neighbor recommended Alicia at Five Star. When she left my house I felt confident her company would do a great job and it is terrific. After are kitchen remodel we had pacific stone put in flooring for us. The flooring after a few months started coming apart at the seams. We called they came back out to fix. Now after 6 months the flooring again is coming apart. Be careful using this company. I suggest you find someone else. read more

Pros: The installers were professional, friendly, and did a good job. Cons: The whole process was a joke how bad it was. Very poor communication. They didn't show up on the scheduled day twice (albeit once was due to snow, but they didn't bother to call me and tell me they weren't coming). They told me it would take 2 days and it took 4. I was told multiple times by Alicia "I'll text you tonight" and then didn't get texts. By the time it was over, our bedroom and office furniture had been jammed into our dining and living room for 3+ weeks. They did give us $400 off to help compensate for the service issues, but I'd recommend saving yourself the time and irritation by using a different company. It's too bad because I'd really like to support a local business owned by a woman, but it just didn't work out well. read more

Five star hardwood flooring is hands down the most unprofessional contracting company I've ever worked with. From my experience, it is clear that their regard for quality is almost as low as their regard for their customers. They didn't properly prepare the subfloor, which meant that all the LVP I purchased was installed improperly and not to manufacturers standards. Because of this, the LVP throughout the house started failing within less than a year. Five Star hardwood tried to hide the issue by installing caulk between gaps in the floor and LVP - showing they knowingly were aware of the issue at the time. When I tried to contact them about the issue, communication was difficult and they tried to deflect the issue. Additionally, they could provide zero documentation of proper subfloor preparation and ignored our requests. After I paid out of pocket for multiple, independent inspections (shoutout to Flooring Specialists in Sacramento) and hired an attorney, Five Star finally initiated a claim - which started a multi-month battle with their insurance, who initially denied my claim, without providing any rationale, despite overwhelming evidence. The Nevada Dept of Insurance as well as the NV Contractors Board had to intervene, ultimately supporting our case. While this has been resolved, it was such a tremendous waste of time, energy, and money. I cannot under any circumstances recommend anyone work with this company. If they had just taken responsibility up front, this whole thing could have been resolved much more amicably. read more

David came to our house to give us a quote. He never acknowledged me but acknowledged my husband. The quote seemed far so we hired them. Next they came out to the subfloor and they had a young name working for them. He did more damage to my walls then doing his job right. Overall the floor came out great. I did ask to have $100 removed from the bill for my time to do the repairs. After a it of a battle it was removed. Five Star did need to come back for install our thresholds because they were on order. I paid for the install with the first quote. But later when the order came in the charged us $100. I feel they owe us our $100. I will never recommend them in the future. read more

I can't say enough how pleased I am with David and his team's work! I'm a real estate agent and have unfortunately seen multiple others in this industry fabricate what you need and don't need to get flooring redone, or overcharge and have you do all the furniture moving, baseboard reapplying, supply your own dumpster for trash, etc. David and his team are the opposite: they are so trust worthy, go above and beyond, and know their craft very well. They took one look at the 3 laminate samples we had chosen and pointed to the best quality one as their recommendation for longevity, strong scratch resistance, and water damage prevention. Couldn't be happier we went with David's recommendation as our floors feel like real wood. He also did our fireplace stone stacked and explained to us each step he would take to make it perfect. It looks amazing. Lastly, his bid was below every competitor (for BOTH fireplace and the floors in 1 package- others were more expensive for only floors alone), he was 3 times faster than any competitor (finished 1000 sq feet of flooring in 3 days), his crew cleaned up entirely after their work, they brought and removed their own dumpster and trash, they reapplied the baseboards carefully so we didn't have to buy new ones, AND they moved and put back ALL of our furniture! Our floors came out beautiful. The workers did an amazing job, showed up everyday, worked very hard and the job was completed on time. Cleaned as best they could after. (My idea of clean is very different from most). My husband and I did the demo on our home, tore out 2200 square feet of carpet and the tile in the kitchen and entry way. We had the tile hauled away. 90% carpet was taken by construction workers who happened to be working on a house next door. Keep in mind this was carpet from a brand new home. Upon time to settle the bill, we were charged for demolition of the carpet and tile along with haul away of the tile, which we paid 800 Got Junk to haul away. What?? We went round and round with Dave and the office staff. We reluctantly settled on an amount , which was crazy. ( There was tile in the pantry we forgot about) at best three construction bags full. Now our friends are being charged for work Dave confirmed they did not do. Be very careful should you decide to use Five Star Flooring, who should change their name. No more referrals for Five Star from us. Too bad, as our other neighbors really liked our hardwood floors. They could have earned at least two more referrals had Dave been honest. read more

Then we found Five Star Flooring: When we walked in the door we were met by an extremely personable and knowledgeable salesperson, Johanna. They have an excellent (but not overwhelming) selection and this lady knows her stuff. We felt she was telling us the TRUTH about the various products - which other companies did not do. I am very unsatisfied with the final product i received from this installer. The crew was very nice and hardworking, the overhead and quote was very professional but I called to complain after installation that my floor was starting to have leveling and warping issues. I was told that it would have to be a warranty issue and nothing could be done unless I installed a new subfloor. If the subfloor was prepared properly it would be fine. I never saw a level the whole time my subfloor was being prepped. read more

Buyers beware of this company. I worked with Fivestar on a smaller job to strip and re-stain my existing hardwood flooring. This was a hassle, the employee that arrived was consistently late and did not listen to what I wanted. When I reported it to the office, they assured me this was not a normal employee and that the "Caucasian" guy didn't really work out and they were letting him go. still wanting to support local business, I contracted for Fivestar to install new hardwood in my home. At their direction the hardwood was purchased and set in my home to "acclimate" and assure the material was done drying. The flooring was installed and initially looked great. However, approximately a month went by and the flooring began to separate. Enough separation to show the tongue and groove underneath. I called and David, I believe, came out took pictures and said we should wait a few weeks to see what happens then they would fix it. I had to call them several times to see what was the next step in making my flooring correct. I was ignored until several months went by. Alicia then came out and said they would get the materials and make it right but this time we should "acclimate" the flooring longer. This would be fine by me. I have contacted Alicia and the last response was, "I'm looking into it". Now I am being completely ignored. Based on many other complaints, this seems to be their M. O. Trying to get Fivestar to do the right thing has been a huge nightmare of an experience. I am filing a complaint with the Nevada Contractors Board, the Better Business Buteau and will also be filing legal action. DO AVOID THIS COMPANY! If I could give them 0 stars, I would. They demo'd our carpet without protecting anything (even after we asked them several times to do so and David reassured us they would). The dust added a layer to all our kitchen cabinets and counters, and spread throughout the 3 stories of our house since it went in the floor vents. They promised to send cleaners and did not. After the demo, they added protection (plastic sheeting to quarantine the room being sanded), but then managed to rip it down along with the ceiling paint/plaster. That's not fixed-- we now have two nice ugly ceiling patches on either side of the living room. The wood flooring install is also sub-par. The flooring scuffs, and nothing removes that--- I believe they improperly applied the finish. The wood floor was installed with 5 layers of coating over the subfloor to even it out---their decision. Yet when it was time to install the tile in the entryway, all of a sudden, the uneven floor is a result of our whole house falling down as the beam on the ground floor is not strong enough. Originally, Vincent said it was a $3k fix. Vincent and David talked to us over a period of 4 weeks repeatedly telling us the dire need to reinforce our house for a mere increased cost of $46,000 but they never produced any plan or quote to that effect. Weeks and weeks go by with empty promises to do the work and provide the detail. Exactly 2 months later, I've had nothing from Five Star- my entry remains ripped out and I am stuck with an unfinished job. To top it off, we have had a structural contractor inspect the beams and Five Star completely over exaggerated the problem, the beam is solid and the house is structurally sound! Beware and stay away from Five Star. They will try to rip you off, lie, and leave your house a mess/unfinished job. David and his crew were great. We replaced shag carpet and tile with LVP and new carpet. They even installed Home Depot cedar planks in the closets for us. David was very meticulous during the initial visit and explained everything in great detail. That's really uncommon with most contractors. They squeezed us in since we had a move in deadline and their quote was well below others I received. Jason and the guys on-site were friendly, accommodating, showed up on time and got the job done. Great group of guys and very professional. My mother should have paid more attention to Patricia P and Mary M's reviews! This is my first Yelp review and I have been a member since 2017. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS (UNETHICAL): I am visiting my mother in Sparks, Nevada. My mother requested a quote to have her entire 1242 square foot house flooring replaced, some minor squeaking in her floors fixed and to have a structural beam under her floor repaired. The beam has a large crack and the home inspector said it should be shored up with another piece of wood. David assured her that they could do the complete job. My mother chose 5-Star Flooring to do the work because of David's assurance that the job would be completed with the beam repair, as this was integral to the project. 5-Star Flooring said they could start on a Monday and be done by Friday. When the quote came in, my mother noted that the beam repair was not itemized, and hand wrote it on the contract before signing that it should be included and cost added to the almost $10,000 contract. Giovanna, in the office, said she remembered that it was discussed but did nothing further. Unfortunately, my mother relied on 5-star Flooring integrity to honor their commitment and allowed the installation process to begin without formally having it added to the contract, her mistake. Now that the job is near completion (flooring installed and a few small items left to correct), David says he can't do the beam repair until June and that he doesn't know how much that will cost but will most likely start at $800 (2 guys, $100 an hour, minimum 4 hours) and then asked for payment for the part of the job they completed. This made me uncomfortable and when I expressed my concern that the job was not complete and was surprised at what I considered to be a high starting out quote for a beam repair and did not feel that we should have to pay the remainder until the job was complete, I was met with hostility and insults. I firmly told him that we would pay in full when the job was complete. I was accused of not wanting to pay, that I was trying to tell him how to do his job, that I could try to get some else to do it for less, and that he would put a lien on my mother's home. I assured him that we wanted to pay but for the complete job and that I felt that $800 seemed high, then he offered to only charge $400 but still have to do it in June, but after his snarky comments, I believed that he was to try to trick me into paying the partial job portion and then we would never see them again. He then offered to do it tomorrow, Saturday, (knowing that we were headed out of town), so I agreed to change my plans and accepted, then he backed out. I told him his 3 options were to complete the job tomorrow and receive full payment, complete the job in June and receive full payment then, or not complete the job and we would have to engage in legal representation if he choose to put a lien on the house. This is when he called me a Karen, yes, a Karen, lol and made some other disparaging comments. Apparently, the construction industry is so busy these days that contractors can afford to treat their customers with hostility, rudeness and provide poor customer service. On top of all this, they did not come on Monday as promised, they came on Wednesday (only alerting my mother Sunday night via a random text from an unidentified person), they came to finish up on Saturday, but did not move the furniture back into the rooms until Monday, leaving my mom to sleep in the living room for two nights, and put some of the doors back on the wrong frames making the locks backwards, there was debris left in the bathtub, and tape left on the cabinets, all of which was no big deal, but just to let you know that they do not take pride in their customer service or pay attention to details. Make up your own mind whether to use them or not, but I would be concerned that if there were any issues, you too could face this same situation. I am curious as to what David's response will be (if any) as he was very condescending on the phone and encouraged my Yelp review, so here it is. Currently the remedy he agreed to is he is going to send some guys out tomorrow morning, and "they may take all day" (aka $$$) and we have to provide the materials. His suggestion is that my elderly mother and myself go to home depot and get the supplies, not knowing what they need to compete the job at this time. We will see if they show up. Oh, and when I said we would like pictures of the completed job tomorrow, so we could assure it was fixed, he said he was unable to do so and we would have to crawl under the house ourselves if we wanted to make sure the repair was completed. So, I guess I will dig out my old clothes tomorrow morning... If they show. I almost forgot! Then within 5-10 minutes of this conversation, another lady calls from the office saying David told her to call and request payment! LOL, apparently, he thinks I am very stupid, on top of being a Karen. read more
