Hey munchkins how's it going? It's time for part 4 of food crawl with "The Professor". If you want context look at my precious reviews of Bon Nene, Garden Creamery, and Tartine. We go to Five Star Truffles and get their Five Star hot chocolate. It's incredibly rich! I get the milk chocolate and I am pleasantly surprised by the cream. There is a reason this is our favorite hot chocolate place in the city. It's a bit cold this summer (insert obligatory Mark Twain quote here). The barista is friendly and we get our chocolate quite quickly. At this point we reach our sugar limit on the food crawl. We're gonna go to Detour and play some arcade games before finishing the food crawl at House of Dumplings.

It's that time of year where I do my annual hot cocoa crawl :) and this place is on my top five for theirs. You also get a free truffle of your choice with the drink. Call me old-fashioned but I like my hot cocoa made with whole milk rather than water. So yummy, did not disappoint. Highly recommend if you like trying different types of hot cocoa. The man whisks the chocolate and milk right in front of you :) Inside it's a small hole in the wall and can get crowded with even 3-4 people but they have room on the sides for you to enjoy sitting near the window while you enjoy sipping on your hot cocoa.

This cute shop is a hole in the wall just off Castro street! We got the hot chocolate & it came with a truffle, which was nice! We chose the dark chocolate truffle which was delicious - very soft, creamy and addicting! I found the hot chocolate okay - it was a bit too sweet for me (I'm more of a dark chocolate fan, so I'd prefer other spots). I would definitely come back for the truffles! They also sell boxes of truffles, which would make a great gift!

This review is for the iced chocolate milk only. Service was good. Prices are reasonable. I found the iced chocolate drink to be very powdery. I actually felt like i had something stuck in my throat while drinking it. Also i didn't not find it to be chocolatey enough. I would definitely go with dandelion next time. We did get a free truffle and that was very good. No seating, strictly takeout.

Five stars is right! We dropped in because my daughter wanted a coffee but when I saw the truffles I HAD to get some. I must say, they were the best dang truffles I have had. The Raspberry were particularly delicious. We did get a large box and chose multiple different flavors which all went in the same box. Honestly, since they all look exactly alike, I recommend seeing if they can put them in separate smaller boxes or something. Grabbing one to eat was always a surprise flavor. Quality truffles and the coffee was particularly good also.

Right off the bat, the decor is so eye catching. I loved looking at the tins fixed on the wall with a variety of street names, chocolate brands, and landmarks. It makes for a very visually fun store. The chocolate choices here are unmatched. Every single chocolate I saw looked divine, and there are so many chocolate brands to choose from. There are also individual truffles for purchase. I visited on a Monday evening, and the store was completely empty, so I could take my time looking around. The brand Fossa caught my eye - they had chocolate bars with flavors like spicy mala, salted egg cereal, and satay sauce. Not only were there fascinating flavors, the packaging of every single bar I saw belonged in a museum. This felt like a store with high-quality, artisanal options, and I loved my visit!

I really like that you can choose exactly how many of each flavor you want in your box. I didn't realize that before, but it's a great option because you could literally get one of everything if you wanted to try them all. I chose orange, citron/lemon, caramel, earl grey, espresso, raspberry, and hazelnut. There was also a vegan raspberry option since the regular raspberry had sold out for the day, and honestly you couldn't tell the difference. It was delicious. I also tried the lemon in store, and the raspberry was my favorite. One small thing is that once they're bagged up, it can be a little hard to tell which flavor is which since they look pretty similar on the outside. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind if you're trying to remember what's what. The owner mentioned he's had the shop for 30 years, which you can feel when you're in there. He took the time to neatly tie up the box and even gave me two complimentary pieces. The shop itself is tiny and charming with a good variety of flavors. A friend of mine has been coming here since childhood, and now I understand the hype. I'll definitely be back.

One of these days, I will try one of the boxed chocolates they have. The person who helped me was super nice and gave me an honest opinion of the desserts on display. I was able to easily share my fears and thoughts. It was nice to be able to talk to someone about the items and understand what I was explaining. It wasn't too busy for a Thursday so maybe that's why he was able to take the time. All of the pastries I tried were beautiful, delicate, and as tasty as the display. 1. Peanut butter bar : I wasn't sure what to expect with this. It reminded me of a candy bar but 10xs better. The creamy chocolate and caramel with the crunch from the bits of nuts were perfect. It is a little rich. I wish I had a nice glass of milk or coffee to complete it. 2. Dandelion chocolate chip cookie : Nice buttery cookie that had a perfect crunch to it. It holds up perfect and it has perfect balance of chocolate. This is something my friend would love because she loves chocolate chip cookies but it didn't have too much if that makes sense. 3. Double chocolate cookie : This was chocolatey like he had explained but it didn't have the strong dark chocolate taste at the end. Personally, I think I prefer the chocolate chip cookie. 4. S'more : This by far was my favorite and I did not share. He had grabbed a handheld torch to roast the marshallow. What came out was perfection and it made the ride home in one piece. It tasted just like a s'more you would make when you're camping. It was fresh and marshmallow gooeyness that makes a delightful mess with every bite. I highly recommend this one if you love smores. Items were reasonably priced and each one was delicious. I highly recommend it for everyone to try.

I'd driven past the Dandelion factory and wanted to experience a true San Francisco treat! I ended up ordering a box of dark chocolate brittle ($60 for a large box), not cheap but definitely high quality and locally made. My colleagues in the office LOVED it; people came into my office just to talk about it and some of them brought it up to me days later. I'd never had brittle like it... it was a thin layer of crunchy, flaky toffee sandwiched between coatings of the richest, velvetiest dark chocolate. Even though I meant for this to be a gift, I snagged a few pieces for myself for the drive home. I didn't know how legendary their hot chocolate was until reading these reviews, so now I have another good reason to go back!
