This store is super awesome and I need to actually go back to get some new wheels and some other things. I live on the west side and this is the store I will trek all across town to go get my skates. The owner is super cool and helpful and even when I was trying to buy my pair of skates they let me do split payments with a gift card (which I find annoying sometimes) but they were just awesome. I LOVE the new location on MLK. So much bigger than their old shop, and a more overall pleasant shopping experience. Plus a free indoor ramp to use. How cool is that!? Very limited parking, and it's always a little tricky getting back on to MLK, but there is street parking on the side streets if you really need it. I went in recently wanting to add a new pair of skates to my fleet and had very specific ideas about what I wanted. I tried on the skates I came in with every intention to buy, and I actually didn't like them at all. They pinched my feet in all the wrong places and just didn't feel right despite being able to try 3 different sizes. The person helping me (I didn't catch their name) suggested a few other pairs to try, and I found a pair that fit like a dream. They were not at all what I would have ever picked out for myself, but I am so glad I had their guidance because I LOVE them. I have also been in before to buy safety gear and a helmet, and also to get slide blocks installed (for free even!) since I needed the hanger bars bent. They are always happy to help. It pains me to have to minus one star for their gift card procedure, which is a bit clunky. It's an awkward back and fourth with invoices being sent to emails and selecting store pickup and it's just kind of a pain. I hope they can come up with a better system because I often direct people here when they ask what gift cards to get me. I don't mind too much, but I hesitate buying them for others because of the hassle. Lots of accessories and helmets and pads as well as wheels and laces and bearings and other skate goodies. If you want to use the ramp, you just have to sign a waiver and wear a helmet. Currently they only allow people to skate during weekday business hours but that might change in the future. You can also take lessons with their ramp coach if you want to try ramp skating! All in all a great local shop that I am happy to spend my money at. read more

I grew up skating and then took a long break. I was a little nervous going into a shop as a tall awkward dad who's anything but cool. It's sad for me to assume this since I've never been to a dedicated roller skate shop, but I was kind of bracing for that rude condescending attitude that is so common in shops (think cycling, musical instruments, etc...). It's intimidating being new (again) at something and it's kind of a vulnerable thing to try on skates and almost fall in front of people. Also, everyone is bad at something before they are good so don't be discouraged! That being said, we had the absolute best experience I've probably ever had going into an athletic oriented shop. There was no ego, no rudeness, only warmth and kindness. Stomps helped us out, she was knowledgeable, honest and just such a perfect blend of kind and tough as nails! She (hope I got your pronoun right?) really knows her stuff, and she lives it as well as a top tier Roller Derby athlete. All that to say. Thank you, Stomps! I've been wanting a pair of my own skates for awhile but wasn't sure on what size I was so I decided to stop in today, rather than ordering a pair offline. For anyone who doesn't know, your shoe size is not the same size as what it would be for skates. The employee that helped us was so great and so patient. She let me try on different sizes and different brands and was so helpful and informative. I wish I got her name but I didn't. She had short brown hair with bangs and both sides of her nose pierced and also her septum. She had such great customer service skills and I am so happy that she was the one to help me with the purchase of my first pair of skates! A lucky google led me to their sister store in Brooklyn, where I was able to score Moxi Lollys that were not only in stock in my size, but also in the color I desperately wanted. Once I found out they also had a spot locally in Portland I was beyond excited to throw my business their way for everything else I needed. I ordered new toe stops, laces, wheels, and bearings (with everything I needed actually in stock!) and everything came so quickly and seamlessly and my skates are looking pretty damn cute. Something to be said for having someone talk you through the pros and cons of a purchase. While giving you advice on your setup and things to be aware of with your gear, which does not happen with most online purchases. It helps when the staff is knowledgeable, listens to you first and then gives you their advice. There was no pressure to buy one thing over another, but making sure your needs were met and that you walk out happy. I visited the shop today hoping to upgrade to a more comfortable pair of skates. I was able to try on several pair from different brands. I was surprised they had so many skates my size in stock because I have big feet. The guy who helped me (sorry I forgot his name already) was very knowledgeable and patient as I tried on skate after skate.
