This has been a nightmare of a situation to deal with. On 3/1, this company came out to my home to diagnose my washer and dryer that have not been working for the past 2 weeks. When they were leaving my house they told me in person "Your washer and dryer are not functioning properly and you will get a call within 24 to 48 hrs regarding replacement options." They then proceeded to tell me that my options would typically be a replacement washer and dryer from the home warranty company's inventory or a credit towards a washer and dryer of our liking. On 3/4 I called the home warranty company and they said Fix it claimed "these units are functioning properly and there will be no replacement options." Meanwhile my washer is not working, leaving stains, residue, and dryer is taking 2 cycles to dry as well as making my clothes smell like mildew. Fix it first will not let me talk to the tecnician, and at this point have not budged on changing their insanely wrong diagnosis. Meanwhile, I now have to get a second opinion from another company because they will not help me out. Overall extremely frustrating, I will not give them any more business and I still can't complete my laundry. The owners response on here has been filled lies. I've called fix it first and my HWA several times back and forth, each not giving me complete info on the process. I never hung up or demanded a new washer dryer. I wanted these units fixed or something else that works. Update 3/7 - I have called my HWA to issue a complaint against this business. The owner is not telling the truth in his response. I was told from HWA after filing a recall claim, they closed it due to their findings from the visit last week. I submitted, they cancelled it. My first experience with Fix It First was a good one. They came out again to fix my dryer. They charge me $150 walking in the door. They said it needed another part and even before they would book the appointment to come back. I had to pay them an additional &129.00 .They said they will be back the next day they did not. I kept calling they wouldn't answer the phone. Finally I got in touch with them and they came out and fixed it and it was left leaking . I will never use them again and then they said it would be additional $180 I could have bought a brand new dryer for that amount .they have become a total rip off. read more

I was a little worried when Home Warranty of America assigned these guys to come by to fix our very old dryer after reading other yelp reviews, but I happy to say I have no complaints! Jay came by to first diagnosis our problem. Turns out the belt for the dryer broke. Despite the dryer being quite old, he was able to secure the correct part to fix the dryer. For a follow up installation, Jesus and Kyle came by. They replaced the broken belt quickly and even offered to vacuum up some old lint in the dryer and replaced part of the wonky exhaust pipe without me even asking. I first used Fix It First in 2017 to repair an oven in a rental home in Olympia Fields, IL. They scheduled an appointment and made the repair promptly and at a reasonable cost. Since then, things have obviously changed. I tried to schedule a repair with Fix It First at the same home in Olympia Fields, IL in November, 2019. After 6 calls to their dispatcher over 5 days, I never got a return phone call to set up an appointment. Half the time no one answered and I had to leave a message. But, even when I was able to get the dispatcher on the phone, I never got a call back regarding a scheduled appointment. For anyone who needs repairs done in a timely manner, this is not the place to go. I finally got the repairs scheduled through Sears with one phone call. read more

Fix it 1st....seriously? First visit took over 2 weeks to get them here for a broken refrigerator. Apparently it was leaking freon. Not your fault, I'm pretty sure it was caused by our movers because it worked great at my old house, worked fine here for a few weeks and then crapped out. That's neither here or there. We anticipated your arrival on a Monday between 8am and 10am. Your repairman called before 8 and said he would be arriving in 20-30 minutes. I rushed to get myself together and waited by the door to avoid having him ring the bell or knock and rile up our dogs. I waited and waited. Your man didn't show up until nearly 9:30am. WHAT THE F#$%? All I could figure is he was dicking around milking the clock because he showed up all apologetic. I just showed him to the kitchen and let him work. I don't like people hovering over me, so I stayed out of his way. After an hour or so of him working on the fridge, I finally went to check on the status. He had just hung up with his supervisor who was on his way and should be here within "no more than 20 minutes" (his words, not mine). Apparently, he was bringing a part we needed and was on his way. The kid left after about 30 minutes and said he would be back, but never returned. We called to see what was happening and the woman we spoke with said we had been rescheduled for today (a week later) between 5pm and 9pm with that mysterious part we needed. So glad you have a man in a superior position that is even more useless than the repairman we had out here. Tonight comes, the service technician is supposed to be here between 5 & 9pm...the young man called a little before 730pm, said he was on his way and would be about an hour because he was coming from Chicago. Doesn't show up again until well past 9pm. Where is this kid going when he gives an estimated time of arrival?? I'm sure he's just messing around because he's done this twice now....same guy and both times and both times called with an ETA and both times showed up incredibly late! It's 10:30 right now and he's still not done installing this part. I'm annoyed, it's late, I work in the morning and there is still a man in my kitchen working on this fridge. I am beyond annoyed and incredibly disappointed with the service, or lack thereof, in this particular situation. I would recommend hiring some more competent employees and management needs to wake up about their staff milking the clock because this is out of control. I really should not be surprised with what happened since the reviews are very consistent. My warranty HWA assigned this company to my stove repair. I guess when you are completely unreliable you take what you can get and do warranty work. I was given a 5 hour window which is obscenely wide. Well 40 minutes before the end of the window they call telling me they were over an hour away. When I questioned the technician about what the dispatcher said about timing his English skills magically disappeared. Seeing as I could not wait more, I told him not to bother coming. When I called the company and questioned them about the problem the dispatcher who I spoke to earlier hung up on me and left. If they are assigned to you by HWA, ask for someone else read more

After we were referred to Fix it First by our home warranty company we were told that Fix it first would be calling us that same day to schedule an appointment. Well that didn't happen, I had to wait until that following Monday to schedule for our washing machine repair. We were given a 4 hour window in which the technician Kyle called me 30 minutes before the 4 hour window was to expire to let me know he was running late and needed another hour..Disappointed I said that would be fine. When he got to my house we were charged $100 for a service call which included Kyle "checking his phone" as if to look up what was wrong with our machine and stating we needed a new motor. He handed my husband a flyer that states clearly on it that they can get parts the next day. Well a full week after hearing nothing; I called our warranty company and was informed that according to the report they were given from Fix it First our machine was 'fixed'. I assured them that that was not true, the guy only LOOKED at our unit. Then I was told to contact Fix it First about the whereabouts of our motor and to schedule an appointment to have it really "fixed". So needless to say I did that and was told the part was going to be delivered that day, shocking! Then I received an appointment for the following day with almost the exact same 4 hour window 430-830pm. Here we were waiting for the tech to show up when I received a call from the office lady Birdiette telling me that Kyle was running late but should be at our house 'within the given window' Well Kyle called at 816pm stating EXACTLY what he stated at the first appointment (verbatim) that he needed another hour and all that. Look, I have a newborn baby and I don't need somebody ringing my doorbell and working on my washing machine (which is on my main floor) at 915 at night! I don't trust anything this company says. I had a great experience with this company. Not only was our repairman on-time, he was 10 minutes early! He quickly diagnosed the problem (defroster thing wasn't working correctly) and was done in less than 45 minutes. Also do not use HWA as a home warranty company. HWA is the company that sent out Fix It First to my home. There are better home warranty companies. I have used Choice Warranty and American Home Shield with other homes and I have never had the issues I had with HWA (Home Warranty of America). I didn't have a refrigerator for over 2 months before they told me they couldn't fix it. I told HWA that Fix It First ruin my floors and they were late at every appointment they scheduled with me. Plus one time they didn't even show up. HWA said it wasn't their problem. They provided the worse customer service. The reason you have a home warranty is to reduce unnecessary cost. With this company I had over 5,500 in unnecessary expenses this year (3k to fix my floor Fix It First damaged and 2,500k to buy a new refrigerator since Fix It First claimed that they spent 1,300 trying to fix my refrigerator leaving me with only 400 to replace my 3k refrigerator, per my home warranty policy. FYI... I put this refrigerator in the garage until I had the money to fix it. I had another repair guy come out. He assessed the problem and purchased one part and fixed it the first time. i can't give negative stars! The technician "diagnosed" the problem with my washer without even opening the cover. A long time later he replaced a part that didn't fix the machine. He bypassed the safety circuit (the actual bad part) with a plastic tie-wrap. and lied to me telling me the repair was complete. After I called the company to inform them of his shady dealings, they tried to tell me he ordered the part and was going to come back. I cannot give Fix It 1st and Tim (technician) enough praise for their professionalism and service. My fridge went out yesterday and I contacted them this morning and they were here no later than 1pm. Tim was very professional, nice and informative. He was quick and while he worked he showed me what the issue was. After he was finished with my fridge I wanted him to look at my oven because it wasn't getting hot. Once again he knew what was wrong within 2 minutes (yes, it was that quick) and he fixed it within 15 minutes. I can't say enough good things about him. The reason they only get 4 stars is because the information online is very confusing. It said that you could make an appointment through the website. I was thinking that it would be a button or separate place for you to schedule it. Instead you have to go to the "contact us" and leave your information and than a dispatcher would call you. I'll give them credit that they called me within the hour that I left my information. I wouldn't say it's warrants a entire star to be removed but half a star. All in all I'm very pleased. Tim gets 5 stars and Fix It 4 1/2 stars. I will recommend them to anyone that needs any appliance fixed. read more

This company is a joke - Tony is a shady operator. They were sent by home warranty to repair my stove. In the process, they said they couldn't do it, I had to give them the part number and hound them to complete work. When they came to install they said they couldn't do it, they broke a screw and left saying they were going to tel them I needed a new stove. I looked on YouTube and found how to do, called them, they came back and repaired in 20 minutes. In the process they broke the bulb in my stove (trying to remove it to see why it wasn't working). I had to give them a pliers to remove the prongs (they didn't have a pliers!!) and then he said he would order and be right back. No word for 2 weeks- call back and then he says the bulb is t available. I said but it's right here on amazon! He told me he would order and be back the following week to replace. No word. 3 weeks later call him to repair he says he no longer works for HWA and I should call them. What a jerk. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS!!! read more

They actually listened to what I said was wrong and were able to figure out the issue when the last company said that I was overloading the machine and refused to hear details. If I were able to give 0 stars I would, however a rating was required. My 2 1/2 year old LG microwave needed a magnetron which I was able to determine by reading up. Called LG because my 1 yr warranty had expired, however they offered a 10 yr part warranty on this particular part. LG provided me with FIX IT 1ST as a service provider. LG provided me with a claim # which was never asked for by FIX IT 1ST, but I provided it anyway. Called FIX IT 1ST, was told there would be a $100. service fee, which could be applied to the repair. Nice guy came out the next day, concurred this was the issue. He provided me with an email receipt for my $100.00. This is where the insanity begins!! At this point I had to go back/forth with LG and Fix It. Fix It tells me I need a RNN number, LG says they can't provide that bc my problem is covered under a partial warranty, not a full warranty, and full warranty is the only way an RNN number is issued. Back and forth 18 calls in total, until LG finally agrees to pay for part and labor. Fix It gets their RNN number. This process takes 17 days. Prior to guy coming out 2nd time to replace, I am now told by Fix It that there will be an additional $150.00 charge to me bc they charge $250.00 to take out and put back the over oven microwave. I repeatedly state that LG is paying the labor charge so why am I paying the labor charge. Woman, (not sure if I can give her name so I won't) reports most people do this themselves. Infuriated, I ask her how much they will charge LG and she refused to give me further info. I was stuck bc I had already pd for the service call so I had no other choice but to continue on with this ridiculous explanation and finish the job. Man came back out, would not do the job until he rec'd my check. Took him exactly 20 minutes to complete. When questioned, he said I'm really fast, yeah right. I wasn't provided a receipt of any kind and still have not re'cd. a receipt a week later. Called LG to file a complaint and encourage them to take this company off their list of providers. They are currently following up on this. I didn't want LG to be charged an additional fee since I had already paid a 250.00 fee. Remember LG was picking up the part charge and paying the labor. HWA home warranty sent my claim to fix-it-1st to service my refrigerator. It took a week for the company to schedule the appointment. When the technician came to my house, he fixed the problem, but in the process he damaged two other parts. Dealing with the company to get the additional damage caused by the technician repaired has been the kind of experience that makes me, someone who almost never writes reviews, want to warn others about this company. Customer service is difficult to get on the phone, and when you get through they are unhelpful and obtuse. When I tried to explain why I was calling, the customer service representative talked over me to tell me why I was wrong, instead of addressing the problem. The bottom line is that If HWA recommends sending a future claim to this company, I will demand an alternative service provider. read more

This business is completely unprofessional! My washer has been malfunctioning. The technician, Tim, came to do a diagnostic visit. He did not find a problem, but my washer was having the same problems after his visit. I tried to call them back multiple times within the next couple of weeks in order to have Tim come back out and reevaluate my washer. The $60 I paid for the diagnostic visit was supposed to be applied to a future visit as long as it was within 30 days. I called and called, and they never returned my calls to schedule another appointment. So, they basically stole my $60 and my washer still does not work properly. I tried to dispute the charge on my credit card, but somehow I still had to pay! I do not mind paying for good service, but I DO mind wasting my money and not having a fixed washer. And there is NO excuse for them being unprofessional and not returning my calls for appointments. read more

Our not even 4 year old LG fridge died on the 15th of September and LG suggested Fix it 1st as the repair company. Unfortunately they did not call us the next day and I had to call them to find out they did receive the RN number and then the next available appointment was 1 week out, so we waited that week w/out a fridge. The very nice and courteous servicemen, Jesus & EJ, diagnosed a dead compressor and it took another week until the part got in and Tim, another great employee of theirs, fixed it finally on the 30th. Besides the unfortunate scheduling, the technicians were great people and we'll call them again. This place is terrible. A home warranty was included in the purchase of my home and my washing machine wasn't working properly. Fix It 1st was the company assigned by the home warranty company. They came out and told me it was a problem with my cold water and that the machine would run fine if I only used the hot water. As soon as the technician left, I tried to run a cycle on the hot water and the machine malfunctioned within 15 minutes of starting the wash cycle. I called the technician back immediately and he told me he wouldn't come back and asked me to send him a text with a photo of the error code and that he would be back in touch. I never heard from the technician again. After several days, I called the main line and was told that I have to go back to my home warranty company to reschedule an appointment. The home warranty company rescheduled me with Fix It 1st again and they still haven't called me back. I ended up calling a reputable company and they fixed the problem in 20 minutes. I'm out the $100 service fee that was charged for them to send a useless technician out and I'm out the $150 service charge from the company I used to fix the problem. Lesson learned. For Fix it First... I downloaded this App. Just to write this review. I will always use this company to fix my appliances. I initially used A1 Expert Appliance who ripped me off $50.00 for the "diagnostic" they told me they ordered parts and would see me in two days. Never called Never showed & had multiple numbers which all VM boxes were full. Fix it First - EVERYONE was professional, when they sensed the possibility of being late due to traffic - they called. This small company EXCEEDED my expectations!! The diagnostic was SPOT ON!! And they were cheaper by $120.00! They stand by their work! Definitely 5 stars! read more

I was referred to them by my home warranty insurance company for a refrigerator repair in our condo in Chicago. I called 5 times over 2 days and left 3 very detailed messages. They never returned my call. They were also sent my contact information by the insurance company. I see in other reviews they have this habit of not returning calls. It would appear they don't care about customer service or staying in business. I made a complaint to my home warranty company and have been given another company. The dispatcher called first thing the next morning (I had called the repair in late the previous day) and had an appointment available within a couple of days, at a time which worked perfectly for us.
