I brought them my laptop because it was having stall problems and was even starting to refuse to go into Windows unless I went into safe mode. They told me that they thought it would be $50 for a virus repair unless it was something worse. It was. They then told me it would be $200 becaues my system was corrupted. I had the work done, but I should have bought a new laptop for $300. My "fixed" laptop is slower than it was before the "repair." It seizes up with some regularity, it takes a solid five minutes (or more) before it's ready to get into internet mode after I turn on the computer (it was much faster before), and many of the programs that I had on the computer were wiped from my PC during the repair, including, but not limited to, my anti-virus program and Microsoft Office. Fix my dead PC substituted AVG as my anti-virus program and Open Office for Microsoft Office. None of the data/programs I had saved on Micorsoft Office was eliminated; it was saved to Open Office. I admit I am not computer savvy (at all) and perhaps someone more technically inclined could provide a good explanation for the post-repair issues that I have, but I was not impressed witht the work they did. read more

I have been taking my computers here for years. I first started using them when they were on 39th which was really convenient to me, but find that it is worth the trip out to 122nd. They are always honest with me about whether the laptop is worth fixing. They replaced a keyboard when my daughter's laptop was missing keys and even took the time to find me a used one that cost much less. They were honest enough to not repair two laptops that were old enough that the hard drives had a questionable life span, one of which I had the data already backed up, and the other didn't have anything I needed on it. I brought my parents desktop in to be worked on after the Geek Squad charged them much more and didn't fix the problem. I appreciate that they communicate with me before I commit to expensive repairs. I am typing this on a 7 year old laptop that they have fixed after water was spilled on it, cleaned viruses from it, and kept in tip top condition. They also advise using free virus scans instead of selling programs that don't work as well, and advise good practices like backing up data instead of paying them to extract it from a failed hard drive. read more

I have taken my PC to the folks at Fix My Dead PC twice now -- they are the best! The first time, my emails weren't getting through to recipients unbeknownst to me because I got no error messages. They spent hours isolating a very obscure problem -- Comcast, my internet provider, server was intercepting and stopping all emails that contained a certain phone number, which the signature in some of my emails did. Their charges were very reasonable; they persevered until they got it. The second time, when thousands of people were being spammed from MY email and after I was told by Comcast (yes, Comcast, again) that my computer had a virus, the folks at Fix My Dead PC quickly saw that someone had hacked into my Comcast account and I needed only to change my Comcast password. I have been taking my computer here since it started on 39th ave. Everytime I have taken my computer in they have done great work and do not charge a arm and leg for the work they have done. If they can't repair the computer they will let you know that it can't be fixed. Don will call after he checks your computer and will tell you what has to be fixed and how much so if you don't want to have it fix he won't fix it. Don is a wonderful likeable guy. I tell everyone who needs computer work done to go to him. I have to drive around 14 miles to him but it is worth it. read more

I love this place and am so glad I found it! I've taken my old laptop there 3 times now because I have awful luck with viruses. Just this past Friday I took my laptop there around 11:30 am. I assumed I'd have to leave it over the weekend, but nope! Don was his usual friendly and helpful self and he had it ready by the afternoon! My laptop is running like-new again and I'm so grateful! I turned in my computer, telling them I think i may have a few viruses, and that my sound driver is messed up. Now they've had it for two weeks, and called me to tell me that the work down will cost $240, for removing two viruses, and fixing the sound driver. The wait, cost, and customer service are all terrible. Never bring your computer here, you can probably do everything they can do yourself faster. read more
