My computer was making a bad noise after I tried blowing it out. I have had experience with Geek Squad before, and it had been the most horrible, excruciating experience with a store/service. They were rude, lazy and you had to go through a 30-minute conversation with someone before you can even schedule. Needless to say, we dumped them. Then I blew out my computer. I waited and waited to find someone to help me with my computer. I was so scared I was going to have to deal with another horrible experience. Then, I found Eastwind Computers and I just love the store. It has everything for computers; especially, build your own. The gentlemen we dealt with were very nice and friendly. I am a Luddite who has to use a computer because I am a poet and, also, for responsible volunteer work. The staff at Eastwind is mostly very good at explaining what I need to buy (or not buy) and doesn't talk down to me, I once said "I am sorry I don't know the right words for computer things." The answer was "I am sure you know things that I don't." I called them because my new computer did not seem to work and they called back VERY concerned. I had to admit that I just had trouble finding the ON button. The tech apologized for not making it simpler for me to find. I can NOT say enough good things about Eastwind Computers! They helped me get my old dead computer onto an external hard drive and when they gave me the bill, I told them it wasn't enough for what I had been quoted. They said no, it was right. At 74 yrs old, I only have a basic knowledge of computers but I have had one for many years and we used it for our family business. I was sick to think that the last 6 years (of pictures, documents, etc etc) could be lost, but they told me the options and got it done in the most affordable way and also made it easy for me to plug in the new external drive and wa la! After getting a "blue screen" twice in one week on my 8-year-old laptop, I decided it was time to get a new one. Dropped the old one off on Monday and got the new one on Wednesday. Today my computer was hacked with ransom ware. Rather than responding to the hackers, I called Eastwind and they walked me though clearing the threat. No matter how his much of a pain I was, they were professional and accommodated me beyond my expectations. My hat is off to them. I normally do not write reviews, but I thought I should write this one. I brought my Thinkpad X1 laptop in for repairs to Eastwind Computers. After a few days, they called me and told me it was not repairable. I decided to get a second opinion and took it to a repair service on Hayden Island. The problem turned out to be a nonworking screen which I gladly paid to replace. Even though the staff at Eastwind are friendly they are not so knowledgeable. If they tell you it can't be fixed go get a second opinion. read more

Eastwind Computers is every geek's cable cloud 9. They have high quality computer and electronics cables and some you didn't even know existed (USB-C to micro-USB). This is a full service computer shop. You can buy individual components or have the staff build a computer for you. They have a section full of compressed air (which prompted my visit), wireless routers, system boards, graphics cards, storage drives, and more. The store is well organized and full of surprises. I consider it the Toys-R-Us of computer components or a Radio Shack without the useless consumer gadgets. The shop recently re-located within the same plaza. Shop local and support this small business! If you're driving from Portland proper, why not head to Eastwind Computers, then make the short road trip to Mt. Hood for the day. I would not recommend Eastwind, which is unfortunate considering the staff was actually quite friendly. However the work they do was nothing short of half-ass and unprofessional. Did communicate with me regarding issues or changes, machine came back dirty, and the original problem that I had brought it in for is still happening. I went to another shop for a second opinion and they believe I might have been taken advantage of by Eastwind. Hopefully that's not the case. Holy customer service! I called, brought my laptop in 30 min later, got a call 2 hours later, and BOOM! Fixed! Needed a new hard drive. I can't believe how quickly everything took place and every member of staff I interacted with was nice, patient, and seem to enjoy working there. Eastwind Computers: I dropped off my laptop and a keyboard that my software tech ordered. They called and gave me an estimate of $240 saying that the keyboard was incompatible. Something didn't sit right so I picked up the PC but while I was there I was shown alternatives that I could purchase. I contacted a private service in the area who repaired my PC for $100 using the same keyboard that Eastwind had told me was incompatible. read more

We've had East Wind take care of our computers for as long as they've been in business, and are extremely happy with the service we get. James is our guru, and he always is able to fix stuff that goes wrong. Always. I have a love-hate relationship with my computer, but thanks to James there is far more love than hate. We're on a network and so many things can go wrong... but usually we're up and running with few problems. James has really gone overboard to provide us wonderful service and repair. My elderly mother took her computer (desktop) to have the previous operating system installed because she was having trouble navigating the new one with all its changes. (She's 80, so it's pretty darn awesome she uses a computer and all!) Instead of asking her if she needs all the programs on the desktop and finding out what she needs the computer for, they reinstalled the old OS for $300. What a ripoff. For several reasons. They overcharged her and, when working with seniors, asking some questions about what they need, how they use, etc. (regardless if it's a computer or Dish TV or whatever) to find out do they need x, y, or is z better. A year later, when my mom had hip replacement surgery, I bought her a chromebook for less than the price of the reinstall and she now uses it more than the desktop. I do not care for places that rip off elderly people. That shows a distinct lack of respect. read more

While Eastwind was unable to diagnose my computer, their customer service grew to be exceptional. At first I almost thought they were mad at me for coming in for a diagnosis than returning when I had the same problem. But, when I came back today, the lady behind the desk was so sweet and apologetic, it was impossible to stay mad. She was apologizing that they could not find anything through all the things that they looked at and checked, while at home my laptop is still having problems that cause it to shut off entirely and not charge on occasion. They even offered that if I needed to come back sometime soon for the persisiting problem, that I was welcome back to have them look at it again. I am diappointed that my laptop cannot be diagnosed or possibly fixed, but they treated me not only like a customer, but a friend and a person. I appreciate that. read more

My son spilled ice cream through the top vents in his "gaming" computer....Kids!! I looked inside and the mother board was covered, the fan was inop and the whole computer seemed destroyed! I told the counter guy what happened and he looked as if the computer was DONE! I left it in their hands to try to repair the destruction left behind. 1 day later, I received a call and I could only imagine the amount of $$$ it was going to take to repair. What I heard amazed me! The gentleman said, "all done and it came to $30". I was blown away. They only had to clean off the mother board and the computer came back to life. These guys could have told me the whole thing was fried and charged me huge $$$ and I would have never known the difference. These guys are VERY trustworthy and honest. In the future, I will never take my computers anywhere but here! For anyone who has ever felt like they were taken advantage by a computer shop, I can tell you this experience has taken that fear away with me and Eastwind. read more

Took my desk top and two laptops to Eastwood on a reference. Inexpensive diagnostics and they were all fixed in less than a week. Cleaned up the desktop and we're able to download all the updates. Both laptops had hinge problems, they are fixed and runny smooth. Next time I'm ready for a new laptop I will be buying here. read more

It so happens that I am thankful for having been a customer of this establishment. Why? Well, for one they are honest, reliable, and even sold me a nice laptop to boot. I really doubt there are that many less expensive repair shops out there that can still get the job done correctly, if at all. The first time I took my computer here I had to fix a hard drive issue. They knew what I needed, told me the price and I was a happy camper. Funny thing is though, while I was in line there was a man in front of me making a scene saying "well you said it would be ready at this time, yada yada yada." He was pretty damn rude if you ask me, and I think some people become a little too obsessed with their computers at times. Computers aren't that simple to fix, it takes the right diagnosis and technician, being impatient doesn't help matters. These people get really busy with customers at times, do you really expect for them to be lightening fast? It's a small business, give 'em a break! We are lucky to even have places like this to fix computer issues in the first place unless you'd rather go to Best Buy and pay a fortune for geek squad repairs. Overall, if you want a GREAT place to get your computer fixed, I would HIGHLY recommend this shop. If you don't want to pay ridiculous prices or deal with "customer service reps" rehearsing the same dialogue with you and have a REAL person help you out, pick this place. It is rare you find people that are honest with you and tell it like it is. Don't expect people to kiss your feet when you walk in the door either, go somewhere else for that. False advertising! "Eastwind is a full service computer shop that works on any make or model of PC or Mac." Wrong! I took a taxi all the way out there with my G5, only to have them tell me they don't work on them. They need to specify that on their site. I hope this is read by others who use G5s and what ever else they don't work on. Don't make my costly mistake. read more

I recently had a major computer problem that started with DELL Pro Support. They wiped my data clean and walked away from supporting my crisis. I contacted Eastwind Computers. They went way beyond my expectations to help me restore a complicated Lightroom Library that dates back to 2009. These images were important as I work as a semi-pro photographer. I give great praise to Eastwind for hanging in there with me to restore my computers data and making my computer run faster. Eastwind also worked directly with my backup software company direcly to ensure that the data could be restored to the format I need to operate the program. This was a major project! James at Eastwind Computers is extremely Knowledgeable, easy to work with and has a great attitude. There customer service is the best I have experienced. They could have charged me hundreds of dollars, but they did all the work for under $100. That's amazing. They invested hours of hands on and several days watching the computer grind the back up into fine working order. I would recommend them to any individual or business. I took my laptop there to have a power button replaced. They then tried to sell me a hard drive to double the price. I refused and they gave me back my laptop with the battery changed with a cull and a bad charger to boot. It was an obvious switch as the color was different shade of black. It was good before I left it there. I got a second opinion to confirm I my hard drive was good to start with. This place wants to scam you. Beware! read more
