Was greeted with a smile, ordered: The deep-fried deviled eggs, fish sandwich with rice and beans. Everything was hot was delicious. The fish sandwich had a big Mac type sauce to it. Pickles were crunchy, bread had the right amount of butter. Fish tasted great. Rice and beans was the first thing I ate perfect combo I loved it! Good proportion for a side. The deep fried deviled eggs were really nice still hot crunchy. Everything was really good. Also, I talked to the manager a couple days later he was outside throwing salt. Everything is freshly brought in. Prep starts at 7 AM. Super impressive. I sat at the bar but the vibe was welcoming and super cool. I ordered the Ms. Ruth's plate, choosing macaroni and cheese, okra, and greens. I mentioned to the bartender that I was vegetarian, and since she was as well, she recommended this option. After I placed my order, she revealed they also had a vegan menu, which I wish I had known earlier, I likely would have tried the blackened tofu instead. I am in LOVE. This is my new go to for soul food. The food was fresh, hot, a seasoned but not salty. We ordered a variety of things to really try out the menu and it was good. The drinks were also good. The chicken is juicy, oxtails fall of the bone, deviled eggs are delish, yams, greens and Mac good. Also tried peach cobbler and Red velvet cake. Staff is new so they are still working out some kinks but everyone was friendly and efficient. The owner was there too getting everyone before we went it. I will def be back often. read more

I've been to the Cali location back in june2025 and it was an awesome experience. (5stars) I've never been to a restaurant that was so efficient. Servers were great, food was hot and good. Manager checked on us. The entire experience was great! Detoit location was (3.5-4) stars. The host was awesome. It was our 52nd wedding anniversary and we had reservations but for a hour later but we were early and she work us in. It was packed. Servers were good, food was not hot, as though it had been sitting for a minute. That was my disappointment in addition to the chicken was fried just a little too crispy. In town for a conference and saw Fixins from my hotel (Hilton Garden Inn) window. Was waiting on a coworker to arrive, but was hungry, so made the short walk to Fixins. Had the two piece fried chicken, black eyed peas and grits. The food was amazing and everyone there was super friendly, super attentive and ensured that I was happy and didn't need anything else. I left and came back with my coworker about two hours later and ordered the deep fried deviled eggs and the fish nuggets on recommendation and even though I was overly full, I couldn't stop eating them. My coworker ordered the chicken and waffles and loved them. The next night we right back there sitting at the bar ordering dinner. We both got the gumbo and split an order of the fried green tomatoes and everything was delicious. I also ordered the adult kool aid and it was great. If it were up to me, we would be eating there again tomorrow, but am letting my coworker choose this time. The atmosphere was great with sports playing on the bar tvs and great music playing. I cannot recommend this place enough. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants that I have eaten at in a long time and I travel a ton for work and personal life and always eat out. read more

Great food, service and music! My family was in town to visit so we decided ti give Fixins a try because I've heard nothing but good things. The staff was friendly from the time we walked in the door. Ashley was a great waitress who was attentive and friendly. I started with the fried green tomatoes. They came with a couple of hot peppers that are definitely hot! I ordered the fried fish with greens and Mac & cheese. Everything was delicious! I didn't need to add anything to any of the dishes. The serving sizes are big, especially the fried chicken. The DJ set the perfect atmosphere with R&B from multiple decades. The music was played at the perfect volume to allow you to enjoy the music and your conversations. Reservations are recommended because the restaurant stays packed. My friend and I decided last minute to try this restaurant when we got there they were told that they were doing reservation only but just our luck someone canceled their reservation and we were able to get seated right away. The restaurant is HUGE! Lots of seating, great nostalgic, Detroit black history decor. I opted for the two piece fried chicken with mac & cheese and sweet potatoes and I had a side of the gravy that usually go on the smothered chicken. Everything was very good huge pieces of chicken lots of flavor with the mac & cheese and yams. The Kool-Aid was good! The service was a little slow, and they did forget some items that comes with the meals like cornbread and biscuits but I wouldn't rate it too badly because they did just open and still working out some of the kinks. Unfortunately, the experience was completely soured by the wait staff. After spending $160, I wanted to treat my best friend to another drink, and instead of being welcomed, we were rudely told that we had been there for two hours and needed to leave. The way it was said was embarrassing and totally uncalled for, especially considering we weren't being loud or disruptive in any way. I understand there might be a two-hour seating policy, but there's a way to communicate that respectfully and this wasn't it. The tone and attitude made me feel like my presence wasn't appreciated, and honestly, it made me not want to return. Fixins has great food, but the service really let it down for me. read more
