We had such a nice Mother's Day dinner at Flacka's! We were in the area roller skating and popped on Yelp to find a spot. Flacka's seems pretty new, has a big seating area with greenery and Mexican decor, a parking lot, and great vibe. Service was super friendly! Chips and salsa are complimentary (yay!) & my fam loved their margaritas They were also happy to switch out meat for potatoes in our entrees. Our server also told us they have a great Taco Tuesday so check that out! Things that could have been a little better: -The burrito I had was cold and some of the ingredients felt undercooked/hard (chips were great tho!) -Service was slow -There is a service charge

Found this small gem as a recommendation from a friend. It's hard to find because they don't have a sign up yet but their food was really solid. Their poblano enchilada sauce was so so delicious. Salsa has a small kick which we appreciated. Our server was very kind and she gave us recommendations which was helpful. They have taco Tuesday specials for the street tacos which we will be back for!

How am I just now learning about FLACKA'S?! Was craving Mexican food and wanted to try something new. As a flight attendant, I travel all over the world. And working for an airline that heavily services Mexico and Central America, I can confidently say that I know *real* good Mexican and Central American cuisine. When I tell you eating here sent me straight to Mexico City, WOW! For the owner to say "inspired by Mexico City cuisine" is an understatement. The molé?! OUT of this world. Made in house! And as a non-drinker, the iced tea was . (My bf did say the margarita was good and real. None of that pre mix business). Anyway. 10/10 highly recommend and will be back for more. Located in the old "super antojitos" building.

I finally tried this restaurant after years of passing it by. Apparently, it changed owners about a year ago, but that's still one year I missed out on some delicious food. I had the enchiladas suizas, and my husband and son had chiles rellenos and carnitas. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Their sauces were excellent. To top it off, our server was super friendly and made us feel so at home. For dessert, we shared a tres leches cake, which was also great. We will definitely be back, because good food and good service are becoming rarer and rarer these days.

The service is fantastic and the food is delicious. Rosie is friendly and attentive. This is our second time dining in this restaurant. We always end up taking home leftovers because the portion sizes are more than ample. They offer lunch specials from 9-4 for $13. We will definitely be back

Half eaten plate of Chile Relleno, rice & beans

I have been going to Flakas for lunch for the last 3 months and they never disappoint. Their seasonal decor and awesome Spotify playlists makes it enjoyable for dine in. The owners are very nice and you are always greeted with a smile. When they aren't too busy they will mingle with their clients and ask for feedback on the food & service. My most recent visit included the tinga taquitos as an appetizer, which could have been a meal on its own and a chile relleño plate with rice and beans. The taquitos are so crispy you could hear the crunch in every savory bite! The tinga filling is delicious and for those that don't like onions in their tinga you won't even notice it's there. The hand made tortillas taste like nixtamal, made me reminisce of my mom's cooking. Delicioso! I also had the chile relleño plate. The filing is cheese, no meat, but nonetheless it has lots of flavor. The sauce on top is similar to a pomodoro sauce which is a chunky tomato sauce that I am not accustomed to on a chile relleño but it was a good combination. I was too full to try the rice but the beans didn't disappoint. Portions seem generous in my opinion. All in all everything we have tried there is amazing. The presentation of the food is wonderful and the taste is just as great! Little details at the location (ie. dia de los muertos decor and napkins) make your dining experience feel like you are eating at a family's home. Ask for seasonal dishes & the owner will surprise your palette!! One of my friends, who recommended Flakas, asked me to try the seasonal flor de calabaza tacos and for a minute I tasted a little piece of heaven. I would highly recommend this seasonal dish if you want something light but filling. Or if you are vegetarian and looking for a good taco. The salsita that accompanies this dish was oh so good! I absolutely will continue to keep this place in my lunch rotation at least once maybe twice a week.

It looks like it is closed at night but that is just the lighting! This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Everything is homemade and has a ton of flavor. The chips and salsa are amazing. I've had the tres leches cake, the carnitas, and beef dishes. I recommend getting anything with the green salsa. The corn and flour tortillas are one of a kind. Expect everything to have a complex and amazing amount of flavor except for the beans and rice, which aren't bad but aren't flavor bombs with a lot of sugar like some other places.

It is the perfect spot for a date night out, especially in the summer. We ordered carne crudo, castacan, cochinita pibil, and beignets for dessert. For a drink I got a pineapple tamarind agua fresca that was a perfect combination. I really enjoyed everything we ate here. 3 dishes was enough to feed 2. The standout was the cochinita pibil. I do wish we got a little variety and picked a different dish instead of getting 2 pork dishes but both the cochnita pibil and castacan were highly recommended by a friend. The beignets and the dipping sauces were delicious . The dough was so fluffy. The service was great and we sat right next to the kitchen. You could tell the staff is organized and keeps a clean kitchen which is always nice to see with these open kitchen restaurants. Parking is street parking only.

Around 8:00pm we were offered outdoor seating, which we reluctantly accepted since the kitchen closed at 9:00pm. We specifically selected standard (not outdoor or high top) seating. Kind of pointless to have a reservation system if your table is not going to be reserved. Unfortunately, missing out on the indoor dining experience and having our reservation not honored was disappointing. The service had several issues. We requested the heat lamps be turned on, but this was only addressed after reminding our food runner. Our friend ordered the CHUUK Trio and Enchiladas, but never arrived. Our server acknowledged the mistake, but still, the Enchiladas never came out. Another dish also never came out. We also felt the pacing of the dishes could have been better, as the pace started slowly but several dishes arrived quickly toward the end. Review above is for the food, not the server. CHUUK Trio. The blue corn chips were perfectly seasoned. The guacamole was simple, but seasoned well. The sikil p'ak was excellent. The pumpkin seed flavor came through nicely without being overpowering. It was also very acidic, but balanced by the fattiness of the pumpkin seeds. Our favorite was the salsa. It was a blackened charred salsa with a subtle heat. 5/5 Ceviche Campeche. The leche de tigre was herbaceous and acidic. No fishiness. Just clean flavors. The octopus was tender and the bass still had texture to it. 4/5 Lamb Merguez Huarache. Not bad, but not great. Everything was seasoned well, but it was one of the least memorable dishes of the night and don't quite recall much about it. 2/5 Almejas al Vapor Picantes. The herb broth was herbaceous. The flavor was not overpoweringly "green" and had acidity running through it. It was served with charred bread (I think sourdough or focaccia?). The bread tied it all together. On its own, it was certainly missing something. The clams were cooked well and the green chorizo was slightly salty. 4/5 Chakut Platter. The veal sausage was tender and flavorful. The smoked linguiza was also tender and flavorful. We weren't fond of the grilled pineapple with the sausage. The house pickles were great. The grain mustard was overpowering for the sausage. Even in small quantities did not pair well with the pineapple and sausage when eaten together. 3/5 Pulpo al Guajillo. The grilled octopus was tender and not charred. The garbanzo bean puree was not pasty or grainy. It was very rich and paired nicely with the octopus. The chayote provided some additional texture. The red chorizo was very delicious, not too oily, and salty. It balanced everything on the dish. The hoja santa gremolata provided some earthy notes and lifted the entire dish from being too heavy. It paired nicely with the octopus. 5/5 Mezcla de Hongos. We were quite shocked as we felt the mushrooms weren't cooked well and some were quite dry. The tempura mushroom did nothing for the dish. It provided some texture, but wasn't seasoned well. The Pipian verde did not pair well with the mushrooms. We didn't feel the pickled onions added anything to the dish. Overall, the dish lacked balance and cohesiveness. 0/5 Chayote. The grilled chayote had a lot of depth. There was smokiness, tenderness, and seasoned well. The requeson was creamy and smooth. The vinaigrette was smoky and provided a contrast to the grilled chayote and help cut through the creaminess of the requeson. 5/5 Tamal Colado de Elote. The corn mole had a lot of depth, was sweet yet rich. The squash blossom did not add anything meaningful to the dish. The tamal was light and airy. 4/5 Empanadas. The Habanero-romesco salsa was flavorful and paired well with the heaviness of the cheese. The masa was light and airy and not too heavy. 4/5 Salbute Pato Ahumado. I did not notice cherrywood smoke flavor on the duck. It was stringy and dry. The tortillas were light. The molcajete habanero was fine, but there wasn't enough of it. The cooks also went light with the duck chicharron so didn't really add the texture I was expecting. 1/5 Castacan. This one never came out. 0/5 Enchiladas. Never came out. 0/5 Pollo Pibil. The chicken was tender and not dry. However, no cherrywood smoke flavor came through. The house roti was delicious! It was thin, had herbs flecked throughout, and light. The coconut yuzu rice was fine. I could not taste the yuzu flavor or acidic fruity notes you normally get from yuzu. The coconut flavor was quite prominent. The mojo criollo was fine. Each component seemed too separate from each other. 3/5 Bone-in Prime New York Strip. The strip was cooked extremely well. Had a nice char on the outside and the pink medium rare color was consistent from the top to bottom. It was also nicely seasoned. 5/5

The chips and salsa were the most disappointing, very thick salsa, chunks of tomatoes and the chips were almost bland. My friends and I had plans to go to ZAMA and found out it was closed so we had to find a new place…read more We ended up here just based off the pictures. Let's start with the margarita I got, I did not taste any alcohol in it (and I cannot have strong drinks! So that can tell you a lot) not worth $18. We basically paid for an expensive agua fresca! Then I ordered the carne asada skewers. The first bite was okay, not very flavorful, but I thought I could just finish it. As I go through the meat, I notice so much fat and very little meat. I grab another piece and bite into it, I start chewing and realize that it tasted like raw meat (with a hint taste of raw meat that spent too much time in the fridge) I immediately got nauseous and spit it out on a napkin. I told our server and he asked me what else I would like. I then ordered the fish tacos, he brought it out in less than 5 minutes (kind of fast if you ask me) I try a small piece of the fish and it wasn't bad, I give a piece to my friend and she only got fat. Why is there fat in my fish tacos! I tried to pick through it so I could atleast get full, but I couldn't do it. The server came to pick up our plates and asked me if I didn't like the tacos, I said no but that's okay don't worry about it. I was so disappointed because I was starving. My friend ordered the rib eye tacos and had to pick through it too because most of it was fat. The only good thing that happened was that our server did not charge me for the two plates that I didn't eat. We thanked him, paid the check and left. Unfortunately, this was not the best food and we were excited to eat and celebrate my birthday.

We had a 12:30PM reservation for their Mother's Day "Mariachi Brunch". The restaurant called us the…read moreday before to suggest we move it to catch the full mariachi set. We changed our plans to 12pm. That's where things started going wrong in ways we couldn't have predicted. There was a huge line outside. All reservation holders, all waiting, none being told anything useful. We stood there for over an hour. This restaurant enforces a 90-minute table limit, so the only way reservations run 60 minutes behind is if you sold more tables than you have. When they finally seated us, they walked us to the very back of the restaurant to plastic folding picnic tables and plastic chairs. The furthest possible seats, out of sight from the mariachi stage. Then we asked for the brunch menu. The server looked surprised, "We're out of the brunch menu. Everyone ordered the same thing." You promoted a brunch, and everyone ordered brunch? Shocking lol. We had to order off the regular menu instead. Our reservation was at 12pm, we sat down at 1:05pm and I finally got my meal at 1:30pm. There were several mistakes to our orders. One person at our table got the grilled shrimp. They served it raw and he sent it back. He ended up not eating and left without a meal. One of the staff was telling frustrated customers that this is simply what you should expect on Mother's Day. No accountability. Just the excuse that wanting a functional experience on a holiday is your fault for going out. This made it worse. And the mariachi? They stopped playing five minutes after we finally sat down. The same guy who told us this to lower our standards told us the band was on a 15-minute break. That break lasted 50 minutes. They came back to play right as our plates were being cleared away. Remember, we were seated in the very back, nowhere near the stage. The band finally made their way toward us just as we were asking for the check. They comped a few items and brought complimentary dessert. It didn't matter by then. This is a bar and lounge that decided to become a holiday brunch venue for one day. The grandmothers in that line didn't come for the lounge atmosphere. They came for the brunch and the mariachi -- the two things this restaurant completely failed to deliver. But I'd bet the staff is somewhere high-fiving each other for surviving a busy shift, convinced we all got exactly the Mother's Day we deserved for daring to go out. We still spend $300. We fell for the trap. And the portions were not large enough, so we went down the street to an Irish pub after and ate some appetizers to make up for it. Better to stick with family restaurants that have experience with special occasions.
