Beautiful views and cozy environment. We had drinks at the bar with charcuterie board and a cheese board. Food was delicious. Bloody Mary was tasty. Sat by a fireplace on a rainy evening. My coat was checked into a closet that warmed. Valet parking and reservations are two of my favorite things. Our server was fabulous. Cleanest public bathroom I have ever visited. This is a classy place. We took some pictures from the deck when the rain cleared. Just an awesome experience.

Great fine dining experience for a special occasion. The staff is a perfect 10. Valet, hostess, server & food runners. A+ for hospitality. The dishes were beautifully curated. Quality ingredients. Great views.

I love Flagstaff House. Exceptional professional friendly staff. The cuisine is delicious and beautifully served. The setting is magical. Perfect for a special evening, birthday or just a wonderful treat. I have been to Flagstaff House many times and enjoyed it. Highly recommend Flagstaff House. The staff is very attentive. This morning, I was commenting that whoever hires the staff is doing a superb job. Seriously, every one is perfect. I also appreciated the fact that we were not rushed. The five course dining experience was very enjoyable. In addition, the portions are perfect. Not too small or too large so we could enjoy every serving. Thanks to the chef for the beautiful servings - very creative. I look forward to returning. It is expensive but worth it!

This dinner was an incredible experience! My boyfriend had treated us to this dinner as a belated Christmas gift and it did not disappoint! The service was impeccable and all the staff was very polite and attentive. The food was creative and incredibly delicious! The meal was sprinkled with lots of little surprises and "tastings" throughout which added a very nice touch to the overall experience! We were seated by a window at sunset and the view was post card worthy. Looking forward to going back someday!

We went to Flagstaff House for my son's college graduation, so it was a very special occasion for our family. That said, for the price, I expected the details to be handled more smoothly. I had requested champagne on the table for a toast and had to remind them. They were also supposed to have my son's name printed on each menu, but that was forgotten. The explanation given was that we arrived early, although we were only about 15-20 minutes early and had planned to sit in the bar first. I also later realized that while the five-course prix fixe menu was $185 per person, there were supplemental charges for certain menu items. The wagyu had a $42 upcharge per plate, and the quail had a $12 upcharge. I understand those charges may have been listed in small print on the menu, but my focus that evening was on my son's graduation and our family celebration -- not on studying supplemental pricing. I only noticed the extra charges later when reviewing the receipt and then looking back at the menu. For a group celebration at this price point, I wish those additional costs had been made clearer upfront. The food was creative and visually interesting, but overall it was more adventurous than enjoyable for my personal taste. The courses were small, and several had a gamey flavor that did not appeal to me. Several courses were barely touched by others in our party as well, both men and women, so it was not just my personal preference. At night, the location should offer a beautiful view overlooking Boulder, but the glare from inside the restaurant made it difficult to actually see much out the windows. I can appreciate the artistry behind the menu and the beautiful location, but for such an expensive and meaningful celebration, I expected the food, service details, pricing clarity, and overall experience to feel more polished.

Flagstaff House Restaurant An iconic Boulder experience -- timeless, refined, unforgettable Dining at Flagstaff House is more than a meal--it's an experience that defines fine dining in Boulder. Perched above the city, the views alone set the stage, but what truly elevates Flagstaff is the consistency, grace, and attention to detail that carries through every part of the evening. The service is exceptional--polished without being pretentious, attentive without ever feeling intrusive. From the moment you're seated, the staff guides the evening with confidence and warmth, whether it's pacing courses perfectly or offering thoughtful wine recommendations. The wine program is outstanding and clearly a point of pride. Each pour is deliberate and elegant, with a deep cellar that caters equally to seasoned collectors and curious enthusiasts. Wine here isn't an accessory--it's an integral part of the experience. The food is refined and beautifully executed, balancing classic technique with modern touches. Each course feels intentional, showcasing high-quality ingredients and restraint rather than excess. Nothing is rushed; the evening unfolds at exactly the right pace. Flagstaff House is a place for special occasions, celebrations, and moments worth remembering. It delivers the kind of quiet excellence that only comes from decades of doing things the right way. A true Boulder institution--and one that continues to set the standard.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Flagstaff House, and the entire evening was unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the service and attention to detail were truly next level--even down to personalized menus congratulating us on our anniversary. We chose the signature 4-course experience, and every dish was absolutely outstanding. As a thoughtful touch, we were even sent home with cranberry bread to enjoy the next morning. The staff was warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about both the dishes and the drinks, making the experience seamless and special. If you're considering visiting for the first time, like we were, it's 100% worth it. This is the kind of romantic dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else!

Single diner review (10/29/2024). I had high expectations for this restaurant on a recent holiday to Boulder and have some mixed feelings about my experience -- let me walk you through them. The food was interesting. As a solo diner I went with the Chef's Tasting Menu as it was the best way to taste as many dishes as possible. I also went for the zero proof pairing (as I had just flown in from DC that morning and didn't want all the alcohol). The highlight of the menu was definitely the Matsutake Dashi (black cod, rabbit sausage, bok choy) which incorporated bitter, umami, salty, and sweet flavors all on one plate. I also really enjoyed the amuse bouche of parmesean cracker with caviar and creme fraiche. I also really enjoyed the zero proof pairing -- all of the drinks were exquisitely prepared and showed a creative and varied approach to beverages. A disappointment was the Magret de Canard with a minuscule serving of duck and overly crusty apple dumplings. The biggest issue of the evening was pacing. I had a reservation for 7pm and my first course was served at 7:42pm (I checked the time stamp on my pictures). This was not because I was indecisive. I had a plan. I had reviewed the menu ahead of time. This was just the pacing of the staff. The other issue was the temperature of the room. I was FREEZING! I was seated in the back of the restaurant on a platform with one other table. The table below me had a space heater next to them. When I mentioned the temp,my waitress suggested I put on my coat. That's a bit disappointing for what is supposedly a fine dining experience. It has a great view of Boulder, but I wouldn't trust them with a special event dinner based on my service. Also, unless there are ramps and elevators I didn't see, this place is not easily accessible for people with mobility challenges. Be prepared for a 3+ hour dinner that should take more like two and plates that are more tastes than courses.

The service was impeccable! Everyone was very friendly and relaxed, despite the elegance of the establishment. The tasting menu was just the right size. The tuna Crudo stood out as one of my favorites with strawberry, pink peppercorn and balsamic. This was paired with a sparkling wine from Kent England which was surprisingly unique, delicious and perfectly paired with the tuna. I also particularly enjoyed the salmon course which was charred perfectly in order to appreciate the crispy skin and the black garlic. The next two courses of meat were very satisfying, with the lamb being my favorite, however who can go wrong with moral mushrooms aside the pork roulade. And they were not shy with the morel mushrooms. I also want to highlight the last wine we tasted which was a sparkling rose from France and absolutely wonderful in its light sweetness and perfect effervescence. Great place for a special birthday!

3.5 rounded up... it feels bizarre to rate such a high end restaurant so low but... I have some issues. I want to say that first the service was excellent. I know in Boulder, staff tends to run young because of the university, but they were all lovely and informative. I've lived in the area my whole life and had high expectations. But I can say that at least half of the courses were hard to consume. I absolutely hate wasting high end food. But there were things I left untouched because I couldn't take a second bite. And I know some of that is personal tastes, but based on the opinions from the rest of the group, I wasn't alone. I was SO excited about the venison and "stew" but when it came, one piece of my venison was well done (I ordered medium) and the stew looked like it sat under a heat lamp for an hour... it did not look like they've shown frequently on social media. Also, PLEASE update your online menu to reflect current in-restaurant menu. I came in prepared for lobster for one of the courses based on their online menu and instead my option was soft shell crab, and I couldn't touch it. The views amazing, service great, and the quality of some food excellent. But a lot of it left me feeling meh which sucks. Also sucks that I don't really want to go back

As usual this restaurant is 2nd to none !! Celebrated our 45h anniversary last night The service is on par with the best service in the restaurant industry Not sure why but they certainly do deserve a Michelin star, maybe next go around!! Well done again and thanks to the entire staff at Flagstaff!!!!

I consider myself a fair reviewer, and will do my best to provide constructive criticism in hopes the management will take some steps to educate their staff. My husband, daughter and I spent the night at the Boulderado on the evening of 4/23. In the morning -4/24 -while they finished packing I went down to the restaurant first to get a table as we only had about 50 minutes to go back to our room to get our belongings and check out. The restaurant was not very busy, and I thought to myself, "Great!" The hostess picked up 3 menus, then paused, sighed, and said she wanted to give the server a bit more time to catch up, and she asked me to sit on a bench, though there were multiple open tables where I would have gladly waited. My husband and daughter joined me shortly thereafter and the hostess finally seated us, saying there was only one server working. She handed us 2 breakfast menus when there were clearly 3 of us, and my husband had to get up and go to the host stand to get another one. Our server came by after some time and took our order. Oddly, we saw a different server with another table so she was not the only server working after all. She brought my husby's coffee, but no spoon. Well, at least there was a knife because several servers passed our table without even a glance. He was never asked if he wanted a refill, even when he asked for a spoon and his cup was nearly empty. She didn't even give him enough time to ask for more. The kicker was the manager, pony tail guy- standing outside the restaurant in front of the coffee bar with our server and two other young ladies, laughing it up while we were sitting there completely surrounded by no coffee. Not one person asked if they could bring us anything else throughout the entirety of our meal. We literally had to wave them down for the spoon, then nothing. Time was running out so I sent my grumpy husband and frustrated daughter back to the room to get our luggage and said I'd wait for the server to pay. I sat there another 5 minutes holding my credit card up, and even caught the eye of pony tail guy across the bar, but eventually had to just go to the bartender to ask for the bill. I likely could have just walked out without paying and no one would have even noticed! I will say the food was fine. Hubby had the Denver omelette, which he said was flavorful, and our daughter and I each had the Avocado toast which was very nice. Loved the seedy bread. However, the service-or lack thereof- left a bad taste in our mouths. We love the Boulderado and will be back, but unless there is some training of their young waitstaff we aren't likely to return to Spruce. Overall, the restaurant staff seemed completely disinterested in the customers and couldn't be bothered to even offer a friendly smile. For a hotel like the Boulderado with the reputation of a historic gem, we expect much more from their restaurant. We have dined there previously, most recently last year when we had a lovely server, a much more mature and professional lady who was lively and joked with us. It was a very busy morning and she made sure we felt taken care of even when things took longer. We left with a smile on our faces. A few final words of wisdom- 1) even if things are busy, stop by a new table to offer a pleasant word and let customers know someone will be with them shortly, even if it's not your table 2) when you bring coffee be sure you provide a spoon, and at least one check in about a refill 3) stop by to ask if your customers need anything else, and get them their check in a timely manner 4) if you are a manager, don't stand around gabbing with your staff in plain sight of your customers, while said customers are being ignored, and 5) a smile goes a long way. The only smile we got was from the bartender who at one point seemed to be the only person running the show.

The drinks were definitely expensive, but we were happy to pay for a quality experience at an upscale restaurant. We ordered multiple appetizers, had several drinks, sat at the bar for quite a while, and honestly about to leave thinking this was a place we would probably come back to. That changed the second the bill arrived. Buried into the check was a 7% "kitchen surcharge." In other words, the restaurant decided to pass along kitchen payroll costs directly onto the customer without being upfront about it. If you're not paying close attention, you could easily end up tipping on top of that surcharge as well, essentially paying an extra hidden fee without realizing it. At a restaurant positioning itself as upscale and classy, this came across as incredibly tacky and cheap. Pay your staff properly and price your menu accordingly instead of sneaking surprise fees onto the bill at the very end. That's not hospitality. That's the kind of nickel and diming people expect from budget airlines, not a supposedly high end dining experience. It completely ruined what had otherwise been a nice night. We were seriously considering coming back before this happened. Now we won't return.

Ambience - this isn't the best place for a business dinner. very quiet/romantic and i felt like our group was out of place there, but no one looked at us oddly. It felt more like we might have been interfering with their romantic vibe as we were talking business. The restaurant and staff present a very inviting atmosphere. Food, this is where i was disappointed. the Bread at the beginning was very good/ with salted butter. I ordered the salted radish appetizer and it honestly just felt like salted radishes on top of a puree that i didn't really care for. So would put this as a 5/10 in terms of rating. I got the rabbit, which was recommended as being the best entree option. i have never had rabbit previously and wanted to try it. I thought it was OK, but not very memorable. It did taste like dark meat chicken. however the chick peas they were served with were underdone (crunchy in texture) and simply not that good. Our dessert, blueberry Tres Leches, was the best of the 3. My dining companions had a variety of things (striped bass, meatballs), but no one was raving about their food. Service was quite nice. would give this more like a 3.5 out of 5, as the atmosphere and service were good. Sadly won't be returning.

I was surprised to see that the appetizers were all served at the same time, so by the time, I ate the cold salmon, the warm kefta, besides being salty was also cool - might have been more appealing if warmer. The rabbit entree was dry, overcooked and tasteless. The accompanying garbanzo beans were undercooked, crunchy and too salty. The food highlight was the family style vegetables. Beets, onions, asparagus were alright; the sugar snap peas which still had strings were not as good. The dessert were disappointing as the rest of the meal. The macaron was brick hard, so hard, we had to ask for a fork and knife to chip hunks off of it. Tasteless. After we departed, my dinner companion said she wished we had sent the dessert back, it was so hard and inedible that we left most of it. Bramble & Hare has a few things going for it: Service was spot on, attentive, helpful and friendly. The wine list is very good. Ambience is pleasant and the dining room is quiet. I really wanted to like Bramble & Hare as the farm to table concept appeals, but with the poor food preparation, this is a tough restaurant to like.
