The flavors are so incredible and the meals are innovative and the most beautiful presentation. Quality over quantity. Portions are perfect because there are so many courses. They also sneak in little treats that are fabulous. The fish is incredible fresh and the steak cooked to perfection. The service is on par with the food. Above and beyond. And the views!!!! I was super excited to go to Flagstaff House for my birthday. I've heard so many good things about how good it is. Well I have to say I was very disappointed. It was just me and my husband celebrating my 60th birthday. I felt like we were completely ignored. It was graduation week. There were a lot of groups celebrating their grad. Food was good not exceptional. My steak was over cooked. I asked for med-rare. It came med-well. The waiter never came back to ask how our meal was. Maybe if we go back I would not go during any holiday or special event. read more

We had the best experience for our anniversary a few years ago and thought it would be lovely to celebrate our upcoming anniversary. I made reservations in August for dinner on 1/11, requesting the corner table for a breathtaking view. We received an email confirmation. We called on New Year's Eve to confirm our reservation and were told it was not confirmed, that seating was first available and we would need to arrive 45 minutes early to "maybe get our table"! A Michelin star level dinner in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. My girlfriend and I have had meals overlooking Central Park, in the botanical gardens of the desert, and overlooking the emerald gulf coast but in terms of views this might be our top one. The tasting menu is fairly simple and straight forward but still world class. We arrived early and the bar area is extremely cozy and we started drinking our bottle of wine here. Service definitely compares to top notch restaurants like Le Bernardin and Per Se that we have been too. We came here for my birthday and it was amazing! We were supposed to come last year, but I came down with COVID and we postponed accordingly. The drive up was absolutely terrifying. It was dumping snow, nothing could be seen on the road or from the restaurant windows. In fact the power went out a couple times, but the severs brought cute battery operated lamps to light each table. It was only our for a few minutes at a time. The food was phenomenal, leaving you wanting more. The tasting menu is sparse portions, but there are so many courses that by the end you are plenty full. I'm convinced they are bribing people for all of the five star reviews. Dinner for two without any drinks was 500 dollars and it was by far the worst food I've ever had. My fiance and I are too awkward to send food back but multiple of the courses from our prie fix menu were inedible to the point where I actually put some of it in my purse so I wouldn't have to eat it. At this price point this is something people would save to go to or have it be for an ultra special occasion and I feel a personal responsibility to tell people to absolutely go anywhere else. We went to celebrate our engagement and it made me sad how bad it was. My colleagues and I were in town for an event for our non profit and were exploring places to have a cocktail reception for our VIP group and this place came highly recommended. Our valet greeted us immediately and we were also greeted at the door by staff, welcomed by the hostess and we went to the bar to have a cocktail. The interior is incredibly lovely with phenomenal views of the mountains. The bartender had an outstanding knowledge of wines and bourbons. We started out with our standard old fashioned (definitely the traditional drink of choice for us). Well presented and delicious it had some great touches. We ended up staying for dinner and were seated at a window with a panoramic view of downtown boulder and the mountains just in time for the sunset. I have to say the service is impeccable. We chose the chef's tasting which was five courses. The wine list was incredible and I chose a 2017 Verbena Brunello di Montalcino. This wine is about as perfect as perfect gets-and as it opens it gets even better. The presentation of our courses was incredible and perfect. We had ahi tuna, shrimp and seasonal squash and wagu beef. I literally could write an entire book on the depth of flavors, the fresh herbs, the detail in every placement, the perfect blend of textures, the fresh baked bread, the layers and layers of heaven in every bite! We ordered cappuccinos with dessert and the presentation is unlike anything I have ever experienced. You definitely have to check out the photo! I ordered the tiramisu which was incredibly unique. Also served was a variety of mini pastries that we ended up taking to go because we were so full! The staff surprised us with miniature banana breads to go as well. I can't even begin to convey how impressive this experience was. Our favorite spot in Boulder especially in the summer time as you get to see beautiful down down Boulder and the sunset as this restaurant is located on a hillside top of a mountain. Their service has always been impeccable and their menu always changes based on what's in season. We come here on special occasions and have always enjoy the food, view and service. They also have free valet. Price is very reasonable for the amount of food and quality you get. One time, they even sent us home with a loaf of poppy seed cake for breakfast the next day. This resturant is beautiful and the staff is really friendly. However the food and the wait times between courses is not great. For a small three course meal we were there for around two hours. It took around 30-45 min per course. The real tragedy was my third course which was a carrot risotto that tasted like Gerber baby food carrot paste mixed with risotto without any risotto flavor. I'm not sure why any chef would think this works but it didn't and any risotto was drowned out by carrot. By far one of the worst dishes I have ever tasted. I would have said something but after two hours I just wanted to leave. Overall I would say this place isn't really worth it and there are many better options in the Boulder area. read more

Flagstaff was definitely a memorable experience but not a pleasant one. Firstly, if youre a person of color Id probably dine elsewhere. Its not necessarily the restaurant itself thats discriminatory but the customers that go there. My boyfriend and I made a reservation months ahead to celebrate my graduation. We flew all the way down from CA to CO just to celebrate at flagstaff. Only to be sat next to some southern Floridians and uncultured caucasians. Before even getting our appetizers the mom of the bunch says "say goo-knee-chi-wha"!!! And the only people in the room (us) reacted in such disgust. Mind you my bf is Korean and Im Chinese. Everyone else reacted as though it was ok. Because out of anything else the mom could say she chose to say something in direct correlation to the assumption of our race. Okay so now I have to sit next to a family of doofuses but maybe the food would taste good right? The answer is no. The grape sorbet was good as a palette cleanser and the lamb was cooked to perfection BUT the saltines of the lamb was INSANE. I thought it was brined in sea salt. And the bear holding random charcuterie board items on a toothpick was a HUGE no. Cant really remember any other dishes but that it was salty. After eating at Frasca in the past week, a friend recommended trying Flagstaff the next time we had an occasion to go out. Our son & daughter-in-law came for a visit so we decided to take them to celebrate their 5th anniversary at Flagstaff. We arrived at 6p. Upon entering the restaurant, everyone was impressed w the beautiful sparkling city view under the star-lit night sky. We were seated and instantly offered drinks and menus. We ordered drinks, requested lemon and lime for water. The menu selection was fabulous - everyone was quite impressed by the offerings. After placing our order, we received drinks, without lemon or limes. My daughter-in-law had to return her glass of champagne for one with bubbles. They apologized and immediately recognized that they should not have served that bottle. Upon receiving the second course, we again requested lemons & limes. After receiving the food, two of us had no utensils with which to eat. We looked for a waiter, but no one ever came back to follow up, so we snagged two forks from an adjacent table. It was after 8p before we received our main course. Both my & my daughter-in-law's salmon arrived cold (it was not sushi), my son's steak was overcooked and my husband's lamb was undercooked. All four entrees had to be returned. When they brought it back, all were hot and cooked appropriately. The dessert was impressive and tasty. After 2.5+ hours, I walked away disappointed, as this was not the evening I had intended to impress my family with. It was frustrating to have the lack of service we received given the restaurant's reputation and that it was far from full. The manager did come over to apologize and give us a discount on the bill. Given that the bill was over $650, I expected far more in service and food than what we received. While I appreciated the $150 discount, I would have appreciated more a return invitation to prove they could make it a better experience. read more

I had the same experience as a previous reviewer from 3 days ago. We did the Chef's tasting menu tonight - 7 courses - and honestly the food just wasn't good. Very bland, I was never wowed by any dish. The pork belly course was almost inedible because it was so tough. The zucchini soup and rice pudding dishes were just off with weird textures and no flavor. I'm really disappointed because the meal was the cost of a mini vacation. I didn't have the heart to tell the waiter because the service was phenomenal - they all worked so hard. 3 stars for service and experience! I like to start my reviews with a summary statement and let me say this for Flagstaff House: I feel bad for the patrons who had a negative experience here. They may have had a bad night or have insurmountably high expectations. The Flagstaff House experience is worth the bill... We went on a weeknight which I think made the experience even better in terms of service. Most tables were full yet our service felt smooth. Timely refills, utensil change-outs, and valet service. The food was delicious! We got the 4-course meal which allows you flexibility (there were dishes on the Chef's prix fixe that didn't appeal to me). Started off with homemade focaccia rolls - as another reviewer mentions, they were slightly underbaked (but not raw as was their experience). 1st course: Ricotta dish and Duck dish. Both excellent. I think I saw Ricotta in a new light after that dish. 2nd course: Agnolotti and Wild Mushroom Risotto dishes. Agnolotti were fried to perfection and the accompanying veg was so flavorful. The risotto was vegetarian and superb. 3rd course: Lamb and Miyazaki Wagyu. Meats were cooked as we ordered. My only complaint here was the sesame potatoes on the wagyu course were a bit dry. May have done better with a bit of cream or horseradish for spicy kick. Desserts: Tiramisu and Apple Dacquoise. Tiramisu was fantastic. Apple Dacquoise also great - the apples were served in different textures which I enjoyed. There are palate cleansers and little dishes throughout which were fun bites. We went on a foggy night so no view but will definitely visit again in the spring/summer hoping to try their summer dishes. Go celebrate something here! read more

We came here to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday evening. There is complimentary valet outside and once we arrived, about 10 minutes early, we were immediately taken to our table. The restaurant has wall-to-wall windows, so you can see the beautiful view outside. We both ordered the three course meal. I got the mushroom tart, salmon entrée, and polenta as the third course. My guy got the hickory smoked ricotta, spaghetti and mushroom meatballs, and polenta third course. The food was excellent, as was the dessert. We got the Smore's, which had a great presentation with the fire. Our drinks are also phenomenal -- I got respect your elders and he got the gem gin drink. My only qualm was that the service was quite slow. It was obviously busy as it was a Saturday evening, but for a restaurant that has such an excellent reputation in the Boulder/Denver area I would've expected them to be able to manage this service better despite having a large capacity. For example, we had to wait about 20 minutes for our drinks and the bread basket to arrive. Also, it took 35 minutes after our first course for our second course to arrive. As a result, we were sitting there hungry for a long time waiting for our next course to arrive -- the length of time between these two courses significantly disrupted the cadence and flow of the meal. I understand that there are unforeseen issues that arise, but we were not even provide an explanation or an apology as to why this took so long. Overall, we had a very good experience but it was not 100% excellent as we expected. We've dined at Arpège in Paris (3 Michelin stars) and know how much excellent service matters. I had mentioned to the manager before we went that we were celebrating our anniversary however no one made any mention of this throughout our entire meal. I did see many other tables getting small celebratory desserts for anniversaries, birthdays, so perhaps they just forgot. If there were half stars, I would have done 3.5 stars, but I could not help but feel that we were a bit forgotten throughout our meal. read more

The views here are breathtaking!! And the service was on point. They also made our anniversary feel very special. The reason for less starts was just the food. We both did the four course meal. I got the lobster soup, scallop, fillet mignon, and strawberry dessert and my partner got the duck liver, crab, lamb and chocolate dessert. My fillet mignon was cooked medium (barely any pink), yet i ordered it medium rare. The sauce on it was nothing special either, and that was the main course, it was supposed to blow me away. The scallop was amazing, but the fish and bed that came with it was not great. Neither of us were impressed with the cocktails we ordered either. The lamb was great though and the duck liver was very fun to try, I'd recommend those! But for the price point, the food should truly be wowing us and done perfectly and we didn't see that. read more
