First time here- the flavors are delicious! We got the lomo saltado, crudo, and fries. The saltado is a stir fry and it was so good. So much flavor & huge! We probably coulda just got this and been totally fine between two of us. The crudo was fresh and yummy. The fries weren't my favorite but it could be because I filled up on the other stuff first. A bit of a wait to get seated but we expected that. I'll definitely be back

Suppperrrr tasty Peruvian food!! The lomo was perfectly seasoned with a good spicy kick. Huge portions. The tallarin noodles were also cooked to perfection and very tasty. The crudo was very fishy forward--we didn't even finish the plate and at $16 it was a steep price point for the small dish. The service was unfortunately incredibly slow.

Everything was super flavorful and tasty! Dishes were pretty pricy but the Lomo saltado can easily be split between two people. This dish was the favorite. The pork dish was a tad too salty in my opinion. The chica mirado drink was delicious and free with a Yelp or Google review. Cute inside atmosphere with lots of seating and good vibes. Will return

Food 2/5: lomo saltado was way too salty, dripped with oyster sauce. Mine was Talarine Velarde had thin slice of katsu-like meat, kinda dry kinda crazy for a meal that's $20. Should have been $15 instead for the tiny amount food it came with, except for the large portion of pesto pasta which had risotto shape. Pasta or mushed rice? Wasn't sure. Don't get it. Appetizer was the most normal one, tapakay chicken which was like sweet and sour Korean fried chicken. Why is this place Peruvian? Not sure also. Should've been listed as Korean fusion instead. Service 1/5: the guy and the girl there were too busy talking to themselves to see my raised hand for 10 mins in the midst of a not busy Sunday around 7pm. Ambiance 5/5; only positive here unfortunately. But not there to eat decor am I? Not recommend, fake yelp stars and reviews. Def not 4.7/5.

Decor was a vibe. Lots of plants, llamas, and vivid colors. We ordered lomo saltado, ropa vieja, hamachi crude, and yucca. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend!

This is such a cute restaurant, but we found the food disappointing. We ordered: - Lomo saltado, $22.50. The menu said it would come with either regular or wedge fries. Since the server didn't ask my preference, I assumed they would come with regular fries. The dish came with wedge fries, which was not my preference. Lots of onion, radish and green onion -- overwhelming flavors. The rice was amazing at least! - Mojo pork, $18.50, with rice and plantains. Rice was the best part. Pork very salty. Plantains, not my thing. - Garlic noodles with shrimp, $13.50 plus $9 for shrimp. This dish took sooo long to come out, the other dishes were halfway done by the time it came out. They brought the noodles out and 10 minutes later, apologized for the delay and said they would give us free churros. That was a nice touch, but the churros took 15 minutes to come out! Fun atmosphere, pacing was off, but the service was good. The restaurant was fully packed at 7 pm on a Friday night, so other people must enjoy this more than we did!

I kept driving past this place and finally stopped in. Super cute decor. Lots of llamas and plants. We got the fried yucca to share. I got the chicha morada and mojo pork. The meat was so tender and delightfully salty. I will definitely be going back for more Peruvian food!

Had a great experience at dinner tonight! We were able to find a front row parking spot in the parking lot. Free 90 mins for Flama Llama guests. It is sooo cute inside! Love the garden vibes, they have TVs around the room, and cool music for a fun vibe. We were greeted right away by Gabrieo who ended up being our server for the night. He was great! He made menu recommendations when we asked for help, and was kind and professional. We didn't have to wait too long for our meal. We started with the hamachi Crudo which my fiancé really enjoyed as he was craving some seafood. Normally I love hamachi crudo, but my bite was really fishy when normally yellowtail is pretty mild tasting so it wasn't my favorite. The limey citrus sauce that it comes in is awesome. We lovedddd the mojo pork dish, that was the winner of the night. It comes with a large portion, and a delicious green sauce. We also got the garlic noodles with chicken. The noodles themselves are sooo yummy! They taste almost Italian which is my fave. The chicken was fine, nothing unique. After how flavorful and delicious the pork is, I think the chicken easily could be seasoned up to match the pork's deliciousness. The only other feedback on the garlic noodle dish is it seemed to come with a lot of.. garnish? See the photo. The large slices of onion, tomato, and radish don't seem like something that you'd easily want to eat with the dish? We just ate around it, which didn't make the size of the dish seem that large. Regardless, we shared these 3 items and were totally satisfied and very full. We also got the chicha morada beverage which has my very favorite quality in a drink.. floral! It's so yummy, highly recommend. I got a refill in a to-go cup cause I needed more for later :) Bella helped us out at the end and was also super sweet, helpful, professional, etc all the things you want in a dining experience!

Great ambience with plants everywhere! Super cute interior. Plenty of seating but probably not ideal for a group of more than 8 or 10. Maybe one area could accommodate 16 or so. Service is great, servers are knowledgeable and friendly. Bummed the pollo à la brasa isn't rotisserie and they only have thigh. It was good but I don't think I'd order it again. The mojo pork however is BOMB! I'd get that again for sure. The yucca and plantains are cooked very well. The rice wasn't anything to write home about. Very plain, even for white rice. Could use some salt maybe? I've really enjoyed plain white rice before but something was missing from this rice. Oh! Don't forget to try the chicha morada. It's sooooooo good! Refreshing and a little sweet but not too sweet.

What a cute, hidden gem! I always pass by this place but never knew what was inside until I was looking for a new spot to try. The Yelp reviews did not disappoint! The interior is so beautiful and it feels like you're dining on a patio surrounded by lots of lush greenery. Plus, the little llama decorations by the entrance are incredibly soft and cute. The staff were wonderful and so helpful with recommending dishes. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! What We Ordered: ROPA VIEJA: The beef cheeks were incredibly flavorful, and the plantains were perfectly cooked. GARLIC NOODLES with Lomo Saltado: So savory and packed with flavor! FRIED YUCCA: Watch out for the chipotle sauce it's got a serious kick, but it's so good I couldn't stop dipping into it! Overall, a fantastic place to dine with great service. Also a bonus for the Convoy area since I found parking right in front!

Me and my friend were in the area and was able to check out Flama Llama and we were so happy we could do so! The inside was so cute and decorated. Abner the manager was super nice and explained the menu to us as it was our first time. Tanya our server was very attentive as well! It was just the two of them running the floor and they were amazing!!! The food was also spectacular, I've never had a pesto pasta like this and the thin Milanese chicken was really good. Abner also provided us a chipotle sauce (which is quite spicy) and a cilantro type sauce which is not spicy, went well with the chicken. The lychee and sangria slushy was also a hit. I can't wait to come back! And OMG we just got the churro dessert thanks to Abner!!!! 10/10 customer service

First time trying Flama Llama. Parking is very limited. The parking upfront is reserved for Flama Llama customers for a complimentary 90 minutes, but beware on busy nights other customers may also park in those spaces for a fee. When we first walked in we were enamored by the colorful llama and plant decor all attributed to Peru and similar Latin American culture. Our server Emily was very attentive and friendly and gave great recommendations. She also informed us that the menu had just changed so there were a few new items when we went. The water service was also super quick. Emily provided us a bottle of water in addition to the glasses we were given. As for our orders... we got the Botanical Chica Morada and Lychee Llama for our drinks. The Botanical Chica is a perfect winter drink. The cinnamon and cloves really come through with the fruit flavors without being overly sweet. It was a perfect thirst quencher. My husband drank the Lychee Llama and found the alcohol to be very strong but he normally doesn't drink. So if you're a soju fan, this is definitely the drink for you. Additionally, we ordered the Fried Yucca. They're essentially potato wedges with a more dense filling but slightly sweeter. However, the Jalapeño Dip they provide with the Fried Yucca was a hit for us. A perfect mix of Jalapeño, cilantro and other flavors. As for our entrees, we ordered very similar dishes: Tallarin Saltado and Lomo Saltado. IMMEDIATE "oh my god" reaction. The marinade on the beef is so delicious. It stood on its own and needed no additional sauce. But adding the Jalapeno dip just took it to the next level. The potatoes, noodles, and vegetables were also all fantastic. We were taken aback with how good everything was and just how much food was given to us. Easy 5, we will be back to try more. read more

Environment of the restaurant was nice. Clean, friendly service, and prices were okay. Our server Bella took care of us today and she was professional and kind. Food was okay, the sauce was a tad bit salty for me and the rice was mushy. Flavor wise was good. The garlic noodles were buttery and very flavorful. Peruvian food is so hard to come by in San Diego. I only really eat it when I go to Miami. It's quite interesting how it's located on Convoy but I guess the owners have some type of tie to Peru and Asia. The Lomo Saltado was definitely the star of the show and that green sauce they give you on the side is super delicious. Their menu is quite small but simple and creative. The decor is really cute with all the plants and Peruvian inspired trinkets. The only con is that it took a while for us to get our food and the service was ok. I also think the place could be cleaner because I saw some gnats flying around and a funky smell when the patio door opened. The prices are average and overall I would come back if I'm craving Peruvian food. read more

Wowwwwwww. Had a short rushed decision to go here with friends and so happy I did! Great group spot to share food. Shared and individual options available and the portions (even the shareable options) are MASSSSIVE. I loved the tamarind wings. Truly my favorite - it was breaded with potato starch. I had the lychee drink as a virgin drink and the server was very gracious to answer questions and make any adjustments. I have gluten issues and a lot of the meat has soy sauce and they don't have a separate fryer but was very open about it. Outside space was SO cute too. Awesome vibes. 10/10 read more

This review is strictly unbiased, unreflective of Flama Llama's incentivized Yelp review strategy to score a free drink which is against Yelp guidelines by the way. There is a warning listed on their yelp page so I would take the reviews with a grain of salt. Okay, now that thats out of the way lets begin! First impression: interior is absolutely adorable with lots of character and colors. The sequence of hanging artificial plants really add a nice natural lush vibe. The llama and neon sign makes the space so fun and vibrant. Okay let's talk about parking. Parking is free in the private lot however it is small and fills up quickly. The menu is a bit frustrating so I would suggest you doing research on yelp ahead of time. The menu offers hand drawn photos with no description of ingredients, no allergy warnings, just a title in latin under each item. * elote - i am sure they use canned corn because the texture was soggy and lacks that crisp fresh corn texture. For $9.5, i really expected more flavor and the use of fresh corn. I would not get this again. * arroz chaufa - this was definitely the best dish we ordered. The rice had a nice wok hei flavor and the chicken was moist. Paired with the cilantro sauce which added a nice subtle kick, the fried rice was fragrant and tasty. * tamarind wings- the wings were overly battered and the sauce was way too sweet. The chicken was on the dry side making it even harder to swallow. * Lomo saltado - meat was on the chewy side while being a tad underseasoned. This dish wasn't bad but also not good. Service was great. Chase was our server and he was clearly holding down the fort tending to a whole room full of customer with just two servers. You can see how hard working he is and how he takes his time to give a personalized experience. No complaints on service just food quality could be improved. read more

Flama Llama was such a fun surprise! We popped in because we were in the neighborhood, and my friend had never tried Peruvian food before. From the moment we walked in, I loved the outdoor and indoor space lots of hanging plants, colorful decor, and a lively vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. I ordered the garlic noodles with steak and my friend got the lomo saltado. Both dishes were packed with flavor and came in huge portions. We also shared the elote and wings as appetizers, which were just as good. The visual menu made it easy to pick what we wanted, and everything that came out looked (and tasted) amazing. We ended up staying for a few hours to catch up on some work, and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Great food, great atmosphere, and such friendly service. read more

Sorry to say I was underwhelmed by this place! Maybe because I'm Peruvian and I have a different take on the food and the culture and the ambience! Really try to hire maybe Peruvian people to do Peruvian food not a couple of teenagers who don't know what the hell it is from what! I even ask one of your servers if he was proving him he said I'm the only one who's half Peruvian or other ones are just Mexican dudes! Customers don't really like that! If you're portraying yourself as a Peruvian restaurant have Peruvians making the dishes, have Peruvians working the front including the servers ! Hell I'll come over and work for you guys! Make it a little bit more authentic! I'll be waiting at least I'm Peruvian and I know what they are serving. I'm talking about with the food the Lomo Saltado was dry! The green noodles were way off base! You can't be lazy and just name things the things you want without being authentic dude come on bro! read more

Parking is a bit tough but you can find parking in the surrounding areas. There is quiet of bit of seating here which is always nice for a larger party. Highly recommend getting the yuccas and having it with the cilantro crema. The lomos was yummy and I did the regular style of fries. I wish I had the drinks but my party enjoy them. Lenya and Kylie provided great service with checking in and providing the sauces and such. A place to check out in SD for sure. read more

I recently checked out Flama Llama and it definitely lived up to the hype. The vibe is super fun and vibrant perfect for a night out with friends or even a casual date night. It has that lively, trendy energy without feeling too over the top. I got the loma solatdo, mojo pork, garlic noodles and a side of fries. Everything was flavorful and the portion size was just right. Our waitress Leyna was super nice and very attentive! She would come in a check on us and she explained the menu very well. As I have tried Steamy Piggy, Yun, and Formoosa, I had really high hopes for Flama Llama. Food 3.5/5: We got the saltado, chili tamariand chicken wings, and a peach oolong tea. The only thing that really stood out to me were the wings and I would come back just for these. On the other hand, the saltado was super tough and not enjoyable to chew. Service/Ambiance 5/5: Our server was the sweetest and she was the only one handling all the tables during the lunch rush. Yet, she still took the time to check up on us and was quick with anything we needed. The ambiance was nice and open. Cute decorations and comfortable seating. read more

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and was seated right away. We have wanted to try this place for a while because of the super high Yelp rating. My wife ordered garlic noodles with shrimp, I opted for the newly added tipakay chicken. The chicken has a good amount of breading, but it was tender. The sauce kinda taste like orange chicken sauce, but less sweet and a bit spicy. The noodles were super garlicky, but unfortunately also salty and oily. My wife liked it okay, and would have liked it more if it was less oily. We also ordered plantains which were pretty good. The restaurant was decorated nicely with good ambiance. Food and drinks were well-balanced and service was fast! I had the garlic noodles with tofu and the chicha morada. Both were great and super filling. Alani and Victor took care of us and made the experience seamless Free parking outside for 90 minutes while you're eating. I got a Mojito and Mojo Pork Fries from their happy hour special. The Mojito was really really good & refreshing. The fries were served beautifully, and also were very crispy, & well seasoned. I really enjoyed the decor here, especially the outdoors. The outdoor sitting of Flama Llama is decorated as a green area, w picnic-style tables. Our server was Chase, he was very polite and gave us recommendations as it was our first time there. Parking was tricky, which is expected for the area. Parking is pretty limited here and can be challenging. The place is small and just like other reviews mentioned, it looks like there is only one server. So when it gets busy it can be quite a wait. The place is nicely decorated and tables are spaced out nicely and there is even a small outdoor space. The food was so flavorful and well presented. The portions were a good size. First time here we got some tips from the server as the menu is just one big page with pics/drawings more like cartoons with a price - zero descriptions. We opted for one dish and what ended up being an appetizer (she had to explain that part) Food was hot and delicious - we liked the noodle dish more than the tacos but both were really good (especially when adding the avocado/jalapeño sauce to taco). Arrived around dinner with a party of 4 on a Saturday night. Our dining experience kicked off with a minor hiccup in the service department. Initially, the servers overlooked calling out our names, a discovery that dawned on us as we observed three subsequent tables being seated after we had already registered our names. Fortunately, this issue was promptly corrected, and we were promptly taken to our tables. Seated and ready to eat, we eagerly dove into the menu. However, a noticeable lag in service emerged when we realized that a full 20 minutes had passed, and yet, tables seated after our arrival had already been served with water and beverages. It was at this moment that I discreetly signaled one of the waiters, reminding them that we had been awaiting refreshments. In response, the waiter promptly sprang into action, delivering our drinks and promptly recording our orders. To our delight, our orders were promptly cooked and delivered by the capable hands of the kitchen staff. Nevertheless, as we savored our meal, the attentiveness of the service became nonexistent. Strikingly, no inquiries concerning our dining experience were extended our way, not once. As our meal came to a conclusion, the absence of any inquiries regarding our needs or preferences became all the more apparent. Consequently, it fell upon me to request both takeout containers and the bill, a lapse of approximately 30 minutes since the conclusion of our meal. My wife, who is Peruvian and very familiar with authentic Peruvian cuisine, immediately had doubts. I was considering ordering the tallarines verdes until I asked whether the green sauce was the traditional Peruvian version or pesto. The server replied that it was pesto with a Taiwanese fusion twist which was disappointing, as we were specifically looking for authentic Peruvian flavors. We should've walked out then, but I stayed and ordered the chimichurri steak sandwich while my wife, trusting her instincts, only ordered yucca with huancaína sauce. Unfortunately, she was right. I give Flama Llama a 4.7/5 stars. The service and atmosphere are awesome, and most of the food I tried was very good too. The decorations are Bolivian as far as I can tell. It's a colorful place with some cool artwork and knickknacks. My favorite dish I tried was the Loma Saltado. The flank steak was cooked perfectly and the marinade is delicious. The elote side was my next favorite--very tasty and hearty, despite being a simple side. My third favorite was the Thai tea flan. A pretty cool idea, and it did have a subtle Thai tea flavor while also having a tasty crème brûlée type crust on top. The tallarin verde was pretty good, though a bit more subdued flavor-wise than the other dishes I've mentioned. The pesto was nice, the noodles were cooked perfectly, and the chicken was fried really well. The paella was a bit disappointing--the octopus was very chewy and a bit flavorless. The rice was fluffy and nice, and the mussels were good. Everything else in the dish was just a bit of a letdown. One other note is that the seats are kind of uncomfortable. I didn't mind much but my mother--who is nearing 70-got tired of the hard seat with little back support quite quickly. It would be nice if they had some more supportive chairs at the tables.
