Banchan with more skewers
Angela L.

We came here for lunch after church. There was a kiosk to put your name on the list. Inside was not very big so we were concerned that the wait would be long. It wasn't too bad. We had a 10 minute wait. Once we sat down we could order off the kiosk at the table. At the table there was a special grill that spins skewers over a charcoal grill. We ordered beef, spicy beef, and spicy lamb skewers. We also got a beef fried rice and braised pork belly entrees. The skewers came immediately. They placed the skewers in the contraption and we watched them roll it over the fire. The braised pork belly came next with bok choi. It was tender and fatty. The beef fried rice was a pretty large portion. The beef was not hamburger or small strips of meat but whole chunks of roast beef. They were attentive and helpful.

What a fun dining experience. We were seated right when they opened up a 5pm. Small and cozy atmosphere. Booths seating and chairs. Our server was very attentive and explained how to order and cook our food. Skewers were flavorful, do yourself a favor and order the cucumber dish. It's adds a nice touch to all the meat and saltiness from the skewers.

First off, if you know convoy, parking... lol. It's in the lot where the yu darvish mural is/was. I'm not sure if the mural is still there, I wasn't paying attention. Anyway, service is great. They're super attentive and accommodating. Place is very clean, and food was amazing! I recommend when you put in an order, you get some type of main dish so you can eat that while your kebab is on the grill. We got the sautéed on choy, beef fried rice, and braised pork ribs. I don't think I enjoyed eating the braised pork ribs in public, because the bones were kind of hard to eat around. But they were really good flavor wise. But I'm sure many people enjoy this dish. Highly recommend the sautéed on choy!!! So good! Fried rice was great as well. For kebabs, we got the spicy beef, rib finger, pork belly, chicken and gizzards. Take note of the yellow dot on the menu, they cook those for you and they serve it ready to eat. The spicy beef took out my friend, lol he was crying. It definitely has a kick, but not a lasting kick. Overall, this place knocked it out of the park. I've found a new go to place. Super worth it to find parking to get to here! I highly recommend this place. Thank you to the employees for their incredible service, I'll definitely be back!

Okay so my friends and I were on the hunt for somewhere new to try in the Convoy area and I had seen a reel of this place on IG and we all got so hyped about it. And let me tell you it did NOT disappoint!! We're all huge kbbq fans so getting to grill skewers right in front of us was such a fun new experience. We basically went crazy and ordered almost everything on the menu lol. The pork belly was so good and we also got the spicy beef, chicken gizzard, octopus, pork intestines, beef intestines and mushroom wrapped pork belly. We were lowkey worried we ordered too much but then ended up ordering even more because everything was just that good!! We also got some string beans and cucumbers for our veggies and a big bowl of spicy noodle soup which was so good. They even threw in some free side dishes which was such a nice touch. Our servers were awesome and super attentive too, they kept an eye on our skewers to make sure nothing got overcooked or caught on fire haha. The vibe inside was really fun too! Plenty of tables and chairs so there was enough room for our group and they had some upbeat music playing in the background. Honestly such a fun spot and I would 100% come back. Just a heads up though, parking can get pretty rough especially on busy weekends so try to get there early!!

This is actually one of the more popular new-style Korean skewers spots on Convoy lately. They use an automatic rotating skewer grill, so you don't have to flip anything yourself--it's super convenient and fast. The skewers are kind of a mix between Xinjiang-style lamb skewers and Korean BBQ. It's a great spot for late-night eats, drinks, or hanging out with friends. Recommended items: lamb skewers, beef skewers, pork belly, enoki mushroom wrapped in pork, and cold noodles. Expect to spend $50 per person for a normal meal, so it's a bit pricier than a typical skewer place. Parking right in front is also really difficult, so it's better to avoid peak meal times if you can.

First time here and it was a cool experience. I liked cooking the skewers in front of you. The food was ok, I felt like the meat needed more seasoning on it. Service was fast and friendly. A lot of seating inside. If you ever need to hit your protein intake, I would defiantly recommend!

Pork belly with mushrooms (one of our favorites) and also spicy beef skewers

I came with a big group of 8 to celebrate two of our friends' birthdays, and we came hungry! One note is that it has to be on your actual birthday day for the birthday person to receive a free meal. We ordered a huge assortment of food. Some standouts were the pork belly skewers, pork belly with mushroom skewers, and the beef finger meat skewers. The pork skewers come to your table already perfectly cooked which we love. The other skewers have to be placed on the auto rotating racks. While the skewers were tasty, they were pricier than other auto rotating skewer restaurants that I've been to. The most bang for your buck dishes are the signature dishes and the main dishes. The braided pork belly came with a bed of bok choy. We also got both the shrimp fried rice and the beef fried rice. If you only pick one, I'd recommend the beef fried rice because it had a pretty decent amount of meat. The green beans and cucumber salad were both salad. The service was good overall, but there were times when we had to flag them down for service. All in all, this is a solid place for skewers and other Chinese dishes.

I love anything on a skewer cooked over an open flame. After wandering around Convoy for 20 minutes trying to decide what I wanted, we landed on Hongyuan Kebab. Parking was exactly what you'd expect on Convoy. A mess. This might actually be one of the worst lots because it's so limited and if you do find a spot you'll probably have to do a three point turn just to get out. We got lucky and snagged a spot right when someone left. It felt like winning the lottery. We were greeted and seated right away. Each table has a self rotating grill which was honestly pretty entertaining. They brought out a metal pitcher of water and these massive menus. One side is packed with skewers and the other has signature dishes, cold dishes, and mains. I didn't want to break the bank on a random Tuesday so we kept it simple. For $13.99 you get 5 beef skewers. We ordered two orders of the spicy beef skewers so 10 total. I also got the cold noodle because I wanted something refreshing and of course an order of corn since I love corn. The corn was $3.99 per skewer. Everything came out quickly. The waiter placed the skewers and corn onto the rotating grill for us. Once the fat started dripping and flames came up, another staff member stepped in and finished cooking them, then moved everything to the top rack to stay warm. It was a fun experience to watch. Spicy Beef Skewers Respectfully, why did this feel like torture. I love spice but this felt like the skewers were rolled in straight chili seeds. The spice level is easily an 8 out of 10. A warning on the menu would be helpful because this was serious heat. I was even more irritated when I realized it came out to about $3 per skewer after tax. I did like the soy based sauce in the middle of their sauce tray though. That helped balance it a bit. Cold Noodle This was the best item we ordered and the only one that felt properly priced. The portion was big enough to share and actually filled us up. The broth came out icy cold almost slushy which I loved. It was savory and refreshing. There were chewy buckwheat noodles, sliced cucumbers, and thin slices of beef. I've had versions served with Korean pear before but this seemed like apple. Maybe a honeycrisp apple? I just wish they gave a little more beef. Corn I was expecting juicy roasted corn but it turned out to be a waxy corn variety. That explains the $4 price but the texture just was not for me. I barely ate it. The menu could definitely describe what type of corn it is so people know what they're getting. It's a fun interactive spot and they do offer a 10% military discount which is nice. Overall though, I don't think I'll be returning.

Parking is definitely a feat to try to find in this lot, but if you do try a few times/wait it out - it's like winning the lottery. Walking in there are several tables with grills on top. They serve you around 3 small side dishes, and only refill upon request. We got a flavored radish with jalapeños, roasted peanuts, and kimchi. We ordered #1-5 (lamb, spicy lamb, beef, spicy beef, etc) and also an order of the chicken. We cooked the meat mostly ourselves with occasionally checking on us - and they let us know if the meat was overcooking. They made the chicken skewers for us as it was a pre-cooked item and they were so juicy. The grills are auto-rotating which was nice! We ordered a sweet and sour chicken which was a beautiful and simply decorated dish. Very flavorful. They also have waitlist via Yelp. 20% discount during the weekdays for lunch 11:00-3pm. Bathrooms available. Would come again, the skewers were tasty.

Mixed cold dish #5 Bellflower with Pollack. Salty, savory, spicy, herbaceous, delicious!
Leonard K.

TL;DR it's flavorful (aggressively so! :D), it's fun, it's spicy, it's... very expensive. I'd go again though. Next to Tajima, this is an unassuming spot where prepped skewers are the main attraction. It is an a la carte situation where the number of "pieces" is the number of skewers. Each skewer has about 3-6 pieces on it and prices range from $7-$20. There are also dishes that come family style ranging from $20-$40. We were here for a weekday dinner. The service was fast and attentive throughout our meal, though it was not busy that night. There is a lot of variety in the menu, and the marinades of the skewers were well balanced and flavorful. The novelty of the rotisserie grill is a fun conversation piece. I did enjoy the skewers that we cooked rather than the ones that come ready to eat, and those were cheaper. However, my wife enjoyed the cooked skewers better; I thought they were bland in comparison. The cold dish was tasty too, the seasoning is aggressive here and I appreciate that a lot. Heavily salty, savory, and spicy. Cumin and coriander were all over my dishes; a favorite combo of mine. The big bugaboo here is price. I'm not sure what the margins are here but I spent $88 for 2 people and left slightly hungry (but the only reason I felt pseudo full was because I drank like 2L of water xD) Recommend for taste/service but not a budget friendly option and I honestly don't see the value compensation on the menu. Still liked it though!

can't they gave us for christmas

Happy hour is currently 20% off Monday to Friday 11:30am-3pm, excluding weekends and holidays! We went Monday at 1:30pm and there were few people so the service was great. This was our second time coming, first time was very busy, but I felt the service was still great. She came by often to make sure the meat was cooking properly and let us know which ones were done. I've always like the rotating skewer design for Chinese bbq. Because of the holiday, they gave us some candy for free. We only ordered skewers. We got the spicy lamb, beef, spicy beef, beef rib finger, and pork belly skewers. The spices didn't have any peanuts, so I was able to use them! My personal favorite is the rib fingers. I felt the non-spicy powder was more flavorful than the spicy powder we requested, but great to mix together. When it's busy the place can get a little loud and hectic, but not overly so. I would definitely come back for happy hour again.

Assorted vegetables, does have meat and liangpi in it
Siu M.

First time at a chinese korean bbq place. The self-rotating skewers were really interesting! The skewers we tried: spicy lamb, lamb, spicy beef. They were all enjoyable. The dipping sauces went well with those. The assorted vegetables dish actually is more like a cold salad dish with beef and liangpi, spicy and tangy. The on choy had good wok hei. Overall the food was very flavorful. Good service and plenty of seating on a tuesday night. Parking- didn't even want to try to fuss with the paid parking lots. Just parked in the backstreets and walked over.

Came here with a group of friends and we ordered a mix of different meat skewers and dishes. The server was knowledgeable and really helpful, especially since it was our first time here. A few times, we had to flag him to our table tho. Some of the meats are cooked in front of you while others were cooked in the back. We ordered the following skewers: * Lamb * Beef * Pork Belly * Chicken * Mini pork sausages * Chicken glizzards Dishes: * Green onion pancakes * Beef fried rice * Green beans * Cold noodle * Braised pork ribs My favorites were the sausages and pork belly. The least favorite of mine was the beef. I wasn't a fan of the flavor. We ended up ordering more meats and another green onion pancake. Most of the food was really good. I was hoping for more flavor in the braised pork ribs. Fair warning, the ventilation isn't the best.

I asked her what she wanted and she said, "seafood", so I immediately thought of Blue Water, and we drove right over. We parked at a metered spot nearby & walked in at 5pm. Do note that there is no dedicated parking for Blue Water, so at busy times it may be tricky to find a spot, but we had no trouble today. In the main dining ordering area & on the side patio, there were a few tables that were occupied, but there was no ordering line. All of us wanted shrimp today apparently, so my dad and I both got a shrimp taco with lemon garlic butter & my hungry mom got the shrimp platter also with lemon garlic butter. The platter came with 8 shrimp, jasmine rice, and a lovely, fresh garden salad. The server who took our order and brought it out to us was very helpful & nice. They have a ton of fresh seafood on offer though so if shrimp is not your thing, there will likely be another delightful offering from the sea that will suit your fancy. We sat in the side patio area and it was very pleasant. We enjoyed our experience this evening very much! The tacos were big and had more than 5 shrimp in them, plus cabbage, pico, cheddar cheese & white sauce. One taco was pretty decently sized. If I'd been hungrier, two tacos would've been perfect, but today, I was happy with one taco. Yum! Mom enjoyed her platter. It was beautifully prepared. Blue Water also has a decent soft drink selection and beers and wine, but we all just had their water and it was very refreshing! :) By the time we left at 5:45, a line was forming out the door, so we really came out at a good time. Peace!

The oysters were just amazing! I love how they were each unique in taste and so fresh. Wishes I had ordered more. The clam chowder was good, though I'm unsure how it goes well with biscuit when biscuit doesn't do well in soaking up the chowder like a bread would. So, this was alright to me. The charcoal roasted mussels were tasty! Not only were the mussels cooked well, but the sauce that went with it was delicious. Ate every single drop of the sauce! It was hearty, lightly tangy and acidic, yet had that slightly creamy flavor to it. Hiramasa collar was superb. Tender, flavorful and when eating it fresh out of the kitchen, that warmth makes it totally umami. There was plenty of fish meat on it and yes, requires some work compared to a fillet, but the flavor from the collar is not something you can get from a fillet. Worth the extra effort to eat it! Definitely a restaurant I would return to when I'm in San Diego.

Our two drinks came out quickly, our orders were accurate, and the food was fresh and flavorful. Our server was attentive, friendly, and happy to answer all of our questions, which made the experience even better. My only complaints were that the music was a bit too loud and the lighting was very dim. We ended up asking if the music could be turned down because it was difficult to have a conversation, and the low lighting made it a little hard to read the menu. Aside from those minor issues, the atmosphere was great and the overall vibe was really enjoyable. I'd definitely come back!

Arrived around 5:15pm, and there wasn't a line, but the restaurant had a good amount of diners. Pretty good ventilation at the front of the restaurant, but the back part of the restaurant, likely the overflow room was where my family and I were seated. It had a funky smell to the area and there was poor ventilation. I wanted to step out but I refrained. Everything felt stuffy in that section. The only nice person was the male staff member at the front for checkin. The rest of the staff were not very friendly. The hostess who walked us to our table was not very friendly and just rushed things. Took our drink orders, and didn't say much. Just walked off. I was surprised to see the pitchers with the beverages were sitting on top of a counter outside where customers are, without any lids. Anyone can just walk by and touch or spit in them. Thought that was not very hygienic... Different sections of food. I never expect food at buffets to be of good quality or taste excellent, so the food items were all mediocre. The teppanyaki grill was... well, let's just say they use the same spatula for everyone's entreés. You load up your plate and the cook throws everything on the grill. Uses the same spatulas to cook everyone's food. If you have allergies or sensitivity to spice, then probably avoid this section. He cooked the meat for someone else's plate and then touched the veggies for the other. Used mod spice level sauce for one, and then same spatula on my entreé. My order was non-spicy, but it had a kick since the neighboring sauce got onto my stir fry. Dessert section isn't even labeled.... meaning, the baked/dessert items aren't labeled other than the gelato flavors. Crab legs were very salty. Lobster claws in the cold section were OK though. The warm lobster they serve is limited to 1 per person per serving. Long line, and if they run out, you have to wait or return when they serve again. People were waiting in line while eating their food... the lobsters are tiny, dry, and with very little meat. It is definitely not worth paying the extra for lobster night. The amount of waiting time is ridiculous and there is no guarantee that you can even get a lobster. Some groups have 1 person waiting in line and then when it is their turn, the rest of the group members (5-7) cut the whole line to each get a lobster. I was trying to get 1 for my mother, and I didn't get to eat one, but didn't mind since it didn't even look good. Rest of the foods were mediocre too. I had 1 plate that wasn't even full... lost my appetite. Wouldn't return. Hygiene.... cross contamination... Some people say this place is like the old Pala casino buffet or Las Vegas buffet- definitely not the case. Parking can be compact. Gets busy around 5:45p it seems as more people were waiting in the lobby.

She didn't make us feel rushed despite the growing line behind us (we were truly trying to hurry, though, because of it). If you like sashimi, get their sashimi appetizer! We haven't been able to find a good place for sashimi since we moved to Southern California 5 years ago. Don't get me wrong, we've gotten good sashimi, but not cut thick & with good quality that is worth the price like this place. The price wasn't even as high as many of the other sashimi places we've tried! They give you only 2 fish choices on the plate, however. They have listed about 5 or 6 different kinds, but it depends on what is available. We had salmon & tuna. Salmon is my favorite, but their tuna was fantastic! First time I can say I may have liked it better than the salmon!! Their other dishes we had were also yummy. My daughter loves scallops & they were cooked to perfection. I don't usually like scallops because most places cook them till they're rubbery. Not this place! My husband had swordfish & I had the sea bass. Both were also delicious, but I think they may have mixed up which plate went to which person. Good thing, as we were trying each others' food, my daughter noted the slight texture difference between the two (I hadn't had a chance to taste them yet). Interestingly, swordfish usually has a vastly different texture than bass, but here, they cook it so well, there wasn't a huge amount of difference! That says something since swordfish is usually very "meaty." If my daughter hadn't noticed, I wouldn't have complained even though I was looking forward to the bass. I like flakier fish. However, the bass wasn't as flaky as I anticipated, but both were so tender, the mix-up wasn't a deal breaker. I don't know how they season the rice, but YUM! Even though I'm Asian, I'm not one who usually eats the rice. It's usually just a filler for me, & since I don't eat much, I'd rather eat the "other stuff" & usually leave most of the rice. Not here! I almost couldn't get enough of it, lol! So good!! At the end, we needed boxes. We had to ask two different waitresses since the first one we asked never came with them. It's an "order at the register then find a table" type of place, so there wasnt any "service" to speak of. Be prepared to stand in line - this place is popular for a reason! Parking is a challenge, but worth it. We definitely will be back!

While visiting the Ocean Beach area, I stopped into Blue Water Seafood for lunch. I selected the…read moreYellow tail taco and a Bloody Mary. Both were just great!! The bloody Mary had a perfect amount of spice and the taco included 4ozs of fish and was just outstanding. If you are in Ocean Beach, stop by this place for lunch, you will enjoy the taco to the last bite!!

Today I brought my new baby out to try out our family's favorite restaurant. Baby-friendly with…read morespace to park the stroller next to our table. We put baby in high chair although baby kept trying to eat the table. We got our usual favorites (warm lobster rolls, clam chowder bowls, fried oyster, and fried clam belly). Surprisingly the clam belly was full of sand this time! Must not have soaked in water long enough, but when we told our server they swapped it out immediately. We substituted one of our coleslaw for potato salad, and one of our fries for onion rings. We definitely will continue doing so because it is nice to try out so many different dishes! As always, order the fries well-done for nice crispy fries. It's still on our to-do list to try the chicken parmesan since we've heard so many good things about it, but I really do like my Must Order dishes (listed below). Must Order (in order of ranking): - Clam chowder bowl - Warm lobster roll - Fried oysters - Fried scallops - Fried clam belly - Fried clam strips - Crab roll Pass: - Fish and chips - Calamari

Lobster roll (warm): It felt like a good amount of lobster, but the soggy roll ruined it for me. I couldn't even pick it up without the whole thing falling apart. The flavor was there but that soggy roll ruined it. Seafood platter: They said it was a plate for two, but I don't know about that. It was nice to try a variety of different seafood. Most of it was good but the fish needs to be firmer. It just fell apart and I wasn't used to that kind of texture. We sat outside in the patio area since inside seemed pretty busy. Service was quick and friendly.

We enjoyed Sunday brunch for a special occasion at Tom Ham's and really enjoyed our experience!!…read more The ambience was spectacular it was a hot day and we were able to change out reservation to outside to enjoy the view and dine al fresco. The view is spectacular!! Service was great! Our server, Eddie, was excellent. We had a few laughs and he even pretended to not see me run into the door. *I trip over flat ground so this is not unusual* he was attentive and kind! Hope to have him as our service next time we visit. The food while in my opinion limited for a buffet, but was displayed very nicely. Pretty much everything was good. I'm big on crab legs and they did not disappoint! We will for sure be back!

I also got the calamari the dipping sauce was so good! My daughter got the burger and my niece got the salmon burger. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely come back. I would recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.
