After a road trip, this place hits the spot. Came during happy hour and had to get one of the happy hour deals. The bone-in wings were a great deal and huge, however, I felt like the wing was mostly batter rather than chicken. That was pretty much the only downside. The burgers are 1/2 lb each and are hefty, filling, and come with a nice portion of crispy, salty fries. They were an excellent choice! We also got the sampler platter which had a nice variety. Nothing was overly greasy and the tenders had a good chicken to batter ratio. Inside is spacious with lots of seating. It gives the vibes of an after work hangout spot. I don't usually give bad reviews but.... the flatbread just wasn't good. The tomato sauce tastes like canned tomato paste with no flavor. It was thick and not tasty at all. I had heartburn all night. Maybe other things on the menu are good, but pass on the flatbread. Our waitress quickly brought our drinks and anything else we requested, but that's about it. It's a small town so I expected more. Stopped here after our hike from colfax. We were HUNGRY and tired. It was relatively slow on a saturday afternoon. Our waitress was SO nice and greeted us with a smile. Very attentive. She told us about the lunch special and offered dessert. We ordered the veggie pizza, bone in wings, the california bootlegger burger, fries, and onions rings. All delicious! My brother drinks an insane amount of water, and she made sure his glass was filled to the brim as soon as he finishes it. The ranch was sooo tasty, and the fries were cooked perfectly with an awesome crunch on the outside. Other patrons walked in and turned on the pre season 49er game. My wife and I love The Flames restaurant and it is one of our favorites in Auburn. The garlic fries are excellent and the menu has a wide variety of burgers, steaks, and pizzas. Mai is the owner and she provides very professional service as a bartender and waitress as well. The food always tastes very good and comes out hot and fast. You never have to wait long to be served. The restaurant has many TVs for watching sports and it's never noisy like traditional sports bars. It is in a convenient location on Lincoln Way just off of the Auburn-Ravine / Foresthill Road exit in the Raleys shopping center with lots of parking available. We stopped in this weekend as we were in dire need a a big bowl of salad. Checking out the various options in Auburn this one had the most salad options/choices. HUGE salads, HUGE! As a guy that enjoys his big bowls of salad, this hit the spot. The garden salad was my preference and my buddy got the buffalo Chicken salad, oh it has some spice. I also tried a half serving of their mozzarella sticks, those are lovely as well, have a nice exterior that stays crunchy throughout the eat with the gooey cheese goodness and quite importantly, "warm" marinara sauce The interior decorations are nice, the restaurant is clean and we had amazing service. Now: the name is unfortunate, because some may think it's just a Flames restaurant, one of the many Denny varieties, but it truly is not. Also the exterior doesn't do them any just being in a small strip mall, but I'll tell you, great service, great options and maybe the best salad options in the area (Can only say based on our search , looking for a good salad place!). They have house made ranch, but it's missing something, needs a bit of work, it's fine, but I'd like to have had it be a bit more rich, a bit more flavor. so if they are not stuck in their ways, maybe they can do something there. peppercorn ranch or something. One more note to ownership (besides the name confusion). My buddy wanted a half salad as he was really wanting to try out your pizzas, but you didn't have a half salad option, so he didn't get the pizza, even though that is what he was crazing a good salad (which you have) and a good pizza (which, based on the smells, is very possible you offer as well!) So figure out how you can do half a salad, or a small pizza/salad option and open up all your salad options for folks! And the ranch, needs a bit of work. (YES!! They have a small garden salad, but he eyed that buffalo chicken salad and could not let it go). This past Saturday my family and I went to Flames Restaurant and Tap House in Auburn, CA. This was one of the best dining experience that I have had in a very long time. The host and our waitress were so sweet and made sure we had everything that we needed. The food was fantastic. I had the Philly Cheesesteak with the $2 upgrade of Onion Rings. It was one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks I had in a very long time. Most places it's all bread, but here it was all flavor for meet, veggies and a great aioli. Onion rings tasted great as well. My wife got the steak salad and it was huge. The meat was cooked perfectly. One of my kids got the Mac & Cheese and it was excellent. Most restaurants serve you Kraft Mac & Cheese for kids, but not here. It tastes a lot like Panera's Mac & Cheese. The restaurant was very clean. They had a nice looking bar area to catch a game at. This place is perfect for families. I cannot wait to comeback on my next visit to Auburn. read more

We've been to Flames a few times when staying in Auburn, the most recent time earlier this fall. They have a varied menu along with a good variety of beers on tap. We usually stick with sandwiches or salads, but this last time DH and I both opted for a flatbread pizza. DH enjoyed his "Meat Lovers." I was equally happy with my "Build Your Own" because I could choose some favorites: Canadian, Bacon, and Red Peppers. The crust surprised me. I was expecting a thinner crust but nonetheless it was tasty. We both had draft beers. Boont Amber Ale for me ... an old favorite. DH was excited to try something new: a Nitro Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing in Longmont CO. He really liked it and it is on our list for our next beer run to Total Wine. Good service. Casual atmosphere. Old Town Auburn may have some more interesting choices in restaurants, but Flames remains, in our opinion, a good option for lunch or a light dinner. read more

I had the meatball sandwich today and it was killer!! The waitress told me they make their meatballs in house and you can absolutely tell! The fries are the battered type l, nice and crispy. My buddy had the burger and he devoured it. They were also quick to tell us they always use Certified Angus Beef for their burgers. Just want you all to know Flames Restaurant and Tap House, in the Raley's Shopping Center in Auburn is a real gem! Had dinner there this week. It is family owned, and Gabriel and Mai really make you feel welcome. The place is impeccably clean as has a broad menu selection. I had a delicious calzone and my wife had spinach ravioli served with garlic toast. The portions were so large that we took half home to eat the next day. That left room for their ice cream bar; don't miss the peanut butter fudge or mint chocolate chip! My wife went with the carrot cake. We are returning next week with friends to try more menu selections. read more

They had a pretty good selection of draft -- far too heavy on IPAs in my opinion, but that's the state of American pubs these days -- and both of the beers we ordered were quite drinkable. The menu didn't have much for vegans, so we settled on the blazing fries for a snack. They were delicious. Service was very friendly and the place had a nice vibe. Everything was fresh and the chicken was super tender and the bacon was tasty. The blue cheese had huge chunks of cheese. I couldn't even finish the whole salad cuz it was so big. When the I-80 East was closed due to weather-related accidents, we turned our car back around and ended up spending the night in Auburn. My husband and I decided to grab a couple beers and light bites at Flames because it was conveniently located just a couple doors down from the hotel where we ended up staying. It seemed there were quite a few other fellow travelers that ended up at the same place. A man at the next table mentioned that he was there for the same reason we were and it was a pretty busy night. We sat in the bar area so that we could watch a basketball game while we ate and were well taken care of by the bartender. We ended up sharing a couple things starting with the Butter Leaf Lettuce Wraps with shrimp. Neither of us were too crazy about the overall flavors of this dish and thought butter lettuce did not work well with it. We also shared the Garden Greek Flatbread which had generous amounts of veggies. What we liked the most about our experience here was probably the friendly and attentive bartender, however our overall bill was expensive for the just ok food and beer that we had. read more

Huge portions of down home diner foods. My cobb salad was huge, but not anything special. Same for the burger. Ravioli and pizza were pretty good, I'm told. Kids had brownie sundaes and loved them.
