The Best Steakhouse in the Area -- and It's Not Even Close I've been to plenty of steakhouses in Manhattan and around the area, and this place beats them all. From the moment you walk in, you feel genuinely welcomed -- not like a table to be turned, but like a regular, even if it's your first time. The staff is always warm, attentive, and truly fabulous without being overbearing. Now, the food. The quality here is immediately obvious; from the freshness of every ingredient to the way each dish is prepared with real care and precision. This is not a kitchen cutting corners. The steak for two is an absolute showstopper that is cooked to perfection, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor that puts the big city competition to shame. It's the kind of dish you eat any leftovers the next day and think about for days afterward. They are always so accommodating to handle special requests. We asked whether they would make a veal chop parmigiana (which is not on the menu), not exactly a typical steakhouse order, and they pulled it off brilliantly, better than most Italian restaurants. That kind of flexibility says a lot about a kitchen. The onion rings deserve their own mention. Outrageous is the only word for them. Crispy, generous, and dangerously addictive. The last time I dined here was five years ago. Since then, I understand that the owner has passed away. My condolences to the family. My last dining experience garnered a five star review. I am saddened to say that this time I can only give 2-1/2 but since I don't know how to give the 1/2 I must give a two. The reason for my reduced rating is because it took about 15 minutes for the waiter to come to our table to take our order after we had been seated. Also, there was no ambiance to create a vibe during the dining experience. Also, the food was mediocre. We ordered the Canadian bacon and the calamari for appetizer. The bacon was fatty and the calamari was not well seasoned neither was the spicy marinara sauce that accompanied the calamari. I ordered the oreganata king crab legs but didn't enjoy them because they were swimming in butter plus the bread crumbs had too much garlic which upset my stomach. My husband ordered the steak, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. He said it was okay, but he didn't enjoy it as much as he enjoyed other steak houses he has dined at such as Peter Luger's and Peter's Steakhouse in Eastchester, NY. Ate here last night on a rainy Monday. Found parking at a meter outside. I'll start with the negatives first 1) onion soy was ok, served in a soup bowl not a crock which French onion soup should be in 2) soups were served at same time as appetizers, which made us feel like we were being rushed especially since it was a Monday evening on a holiday at 4 pm. 3) Appetizer special of fried burrata was small and very expensive for such a tiny portion.( over $20) 4) Prices were very high for what you get, sides of home fries and creamed spinach were basic, fried onion rings had no onion just breading and burned to death, don't get them. 5) Steak arrived 5-10 minutes before sides, no excuse for this especially with only 1 other table of 2 in the restaurant. 6)desserts of pecan pie and tiramisu were average and very expensive 7) Bill with tip was over $400, was too much and we didn't even have drinks just water and 1 Diet Coke The Good 1) Waiter was nice, but service was not as polished as Benjamin's or Ruth Chris.( ie , Had to track down waiter for steak sauce) 2) The steak for 2 was incredible, melted in your mouth and cooked perfectly 3) Bread when you sit down was delicious 4) Service overall was very good, not obtrusive and attentive Overall , we had leftovers the next day but $400 was overpriced and we go to the fancy steakhouses 2x month May give another try in the future and update review read more

It was our first time there and last. The food was good, but the service was not. My husband and I went there for our wedding anniversary. We ordered our food and waited then when they finally brought our food out it was wrong. They gave us the wrong order. So now we had to wait another 20 minutes for right order of food. And the manager of the restaurant never even came over to us to apologize, the waiter did. Also there was a family sitting at the table across from us arguing and yelling and cursing at each other, horrible. So the waiter did give us a free desert that was the least they could do. Best steakhouse in Westchester County. The Elmsford location is not the greatest, but so worth the trip. The restaurant also shares its parking lot with Indian motorcycles so you may have to park in the front on the street rather in the back lot. The service is always excellent. Asked for a medium well bone-in Ribeye and it came out basically burnt. As for appetizer, I'm strictly no pork, and the waiter recommends oyster Rockefeller, which contained bacon (He said it was only spinach and cheese). My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here in August. We actually enjoyed this place more than Benjamin Steakhouse. Although both are supreme, Flames is smaller with a more intimate setting. Their steak and wine was delicious, however, the service and wait staff seemed to be so much more attentive and exuded more of a family type of feel. Hubs loves his steak. There are no two ways about it. He's been to Ruth Chris and lovvvvves it and Benjamin too. He's eaten at Z Prime and likes it and Morton's also. We've literally been to all the Steakhouses between White Plains, Tarrytown and Hartsdale. But hubs has been inching his way since like forever to try Flames and satisfy his steak fixation. Located on Rt 119 in Elmsford, Flames has been around for the last couple of years. The place has a ballparkish look to their outside (that's just me)- but inside is a totally different story: neutrals, super dark woods and light walls with a dramatic full bar. Went in with no reservations, greeted nicely and seated in their front dining room [there's a second for bigger parties I think]. No online menu prices- but paper menu though reflects typical Steakhouse prices for the area. Our server Milo was attentive. Nothing outrageous about our House Salad. Cosmos hubs ordered were ok. A few Specials were mentioned- but I decided on the Market Price- Twin Lobster Tails- which at $60 and change- I felt the taste wasn't fresh and price was wayyy overboard. Hubs didn't have the most outrageously flavorful or juicy NY Strip ever- but it was cooked perfectly to a Medium Rare. Expect big portions because heaps of our sides made it nice to share. I mean...my Brussel Sprouts without bacon as I wanted them were very good- plus I brought extra home. I stayed away from hubs' Creamed Spinach- but he liked it. Parking was tough and no valet. The service was great. Attentive whilst not being overbearing; talked quietly and weren't overly gregarious--which was nice. Lighting was almost adequate and no discernible piped in music to bristle me. The crab cocktail was plentiful--about 6 lobules. Served with cocktail sauce and tartaresque sauce. It was very tasty and flaked nicely. The hash browns were awesome. Better than anyplace else I've been on the area. Not hitting the Peter Luger bell, but definitely a most honorable mention--and a crisp hat tip for being crunchy, well seasoned and a distinct, albeit pleasant, onion tone. Definitely get it. The steak looked, sounded and smelled like Peter Lugers. It wasn't. Listen, don't get me wrong--it was really good. I had asked for it to medium and it came medium-rare, at best. It was very odd since the exterior seemed medium but upon cutting into it, drum roll please........rare....ish. It was a little chewy. I sent it back twice for more cooking. Each time though, exterior belied reality. My advice--order a half and click more than you want. So, if you want medium order medium well and, still, be prepared for an under broiler touch up. Don't follow my advice and you might be fell by your own petard. As noted the steak was a little chewy and might have withstood a bit more salting and even more peppering. It was a little bland and not as beefy as I'd hoped. I have a suggestion for the proprietor--put some crusts on the menu. How about a blue cheese crust; a peppercorn crust; a garlic and onion crust, etc. Offer a medley of sauces...béarnaise, red wine reduction, peppercorn, etc. The waiter told me they cook the steaks earlier in the day and then heat them up. OMG...noOMFG.....NFW....he just didn't say that? Did he? Was my food hanging around the counter all day? No worries, next time I'll just go for an early bird seating. I'll sit juxtaposed to a gaggle of blue haired ladies any day if leads to a freshly cooked steak. Next, the dessert. The cheesecake was amazing and it could go against Juniors, CCF fare any day and hold its own. The cannolis, awesome too. Nice crunchy shell and a filling that was delectably sweet. So, I'm sure the Yelp brass will send an email politely asking me why I gave them three stars not four and thoughtfully include other reviews so as to suggest I might have been too tough in mine. To the Yelp mandarin (look it up--and when you do, recall it's a lowercase m) I say this to you.... I will go back, I will order 1/2-1 click more done than i really want it, and retain the salad blue cheese dressing for application to the steak. I will likely give it four stars then. read more

We were taking some friends out to dinner, and we were a little hesitant when pulling up. But they say looks can be deceiving? They are right. The restaurant was attached to their pizza restaurant. We weren't sure if we were going to go somewhere else. Well we decided to go in, sat at the bar, had drinks then were seated. Glad we stayed. It was an excellent experience. Service, food right on point. We had the beef carpaccio with truffle oil, fried calamari and the tuna. Then 3 of us got the Chilean sea bass and one filet mignon. We had mashed potatoes and French fries. The fries were so crunchy and good. Overall it was a much better experience then I thought it was gonna be. So don't judge a book by its cover. read more

I begin with the sliced tomato onion salad, and ordered The Prime Flames burger. My friend started out with the minestrone soup, and ordered chicken piccata for her entrée. The sliced tomato and onion was fresh and good. I enjoyed it with balsamic and olive oil. My burger was amazing! So flavorful, with crispy onions on top with lettuce tomato red onion and possibly Gorgonzola cheese and bacon. Their french fries were amazing! Extremely crispy on the outside thick cut and just perfect! I ate more than I planned on. The chicken piccata looked excellent. My friend completely enjoyed it. It was very flavorful, with its capery, buttery sauce. I tasted it also and thought it was amazing. We were both very content! We both had ice cream for dessert which was extremely tasty excellent vanilla ice cream with lots of vanilla beans specs in it. We both really enjoyed our lunch. Recently dined at Flames for our 35th wedding anniversary. Even though their menu contains seafood main courses, we came for their dry aged steak. We started with chilled lobster which is served on a bed of ice with horseradish and cocktail sauce. Very good. Our main course was a porterhouse for two served medium rare. We shared orders of home fries and onion rings. The steak didn't disappoint. It arrived sizzling and cooked to medium rare. It was buttery soft with great steak flavor. The sides were also outstanding. We shared a bottle of Cabernet which was the perfect accompaniment. Didn't have room for dessert. Worst steakhouse I've ever been to. They pride themselves with dry aged stakes however mine tasted terrible and charred. The portions for 2 are so small they really are for one. Prices are the most expensive I've seen in comparison to westchester. My appetizer had no decoration to it and lacked flavor. TRUE RATING -***1/2 Flames fits right in with Westchester's upscale steakhouses. A relaxed atmosphere put you in the mood for good conversation, a nice glass of wine and a fine meal. That said there were hits and a few small misses this Saturday night. To begin we shared two appetizers: 1-Cold Antipasto for 2 - The grilled vegetables and prosciutto were excellent. The tomato and fresh mozzarella - standard stuff which (with a few exceptions) seems to be the norm at Westchester restaurants. 2-Fried Calamari - a disappointment... Limp and unexciting with a standard marinara sauce it wasn't finished. We both ordered Filet Mignon with mushrooms - one medium and one medium rare. Both steaks were truly excellent and cooked to perfection. Loaded with flavor these steaks cut like soft butter easily worth the price of admission. Two ordered sides of creamed spinach and onion rings were perfect complements to the wonderful steaks. Desserts were mixed. The cannoli selection worked however the pecan pie fell short of expectations as the pie didn't hold up well with the vanilla ice cream (hey these things matter). Service - aggressive at first - quickly realized we were not to be rushed and became polite and attentive throughout our stay. Cozy dining area becomes energetic as evening moves on. Even being seated at a comfortable private table one needs to raise voices to be heard by dinner's end. Arriving early parking is not an issue. Just left here and wow what a great place. Ran so professionally with a great waiter staff. Started with baked clams that were nice and clean and cooked perfectly that melted in my mouth. Also had to order shrimp cocktail that were huge and felt like I was eating a steak nice snap to them. Tried the app special they had it was Alaskan king crab sliced in half with lemon and breadcrumbs roasted wow so good. Great lemon sauce we all dipped the bread into it Always have to order eggplant rollatini was nice put together nicely and cooked like butter. Had a nice pink sauce. My buddy ordered the rib eye steak that took over half the table. I had a veal chop smothered with mushrooms omg so tender and took my time enjoying every bite. Dinner tonight at Flames definitely did not disappoint! They had a robust wine list to choose from along with a variety of cocktails. For starters we had the French onion soup which had great flavor. For the entree, I had the filet, and my husband had the ribeye. Mine cooked medium-well, his blue rare and both cooked to perfection. Garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus as sides. They plated the food at our table which was done precisely. I would have taken more photos but the food looked too good not to dive in. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night, yet casual enough to feel comfortable bringing older children. The service was impeccable and all the servers worked together wonderfully to ensure we were well taken care of even though they were quite busy. At a price tag of over $300 for 2 people, it was a little hefty to frequently dine here, but we will absolutely be planning future date nights here. It was worth every penny! read more

This place is more expensive than Ruth Chris or even the original Delmonicos downtown. You could enjoy the Polo Club or even Peter Luger for less. You would think the steaks would be equally as good or better due to the expense but that is far from the truth. Don't you think it's odd that all of the top steak places make their prices available online but not at Flames. You won't find a menu with prices on their website or anywhere else because they try so hard to censor them. I found the steaks tough and tasteless. Not one person in my group felt they had a "good" steak. The sides were also very low caliber. They looked to be reheated frozen or canned items. With the exception to that which they deep fry.... Next time you want a high end steak save your money and go to Delmonicos. By comparison their steaks have so much flavor, their practically "white glove" service is amazing. Or just go anywhere else, there is a Burger King just up the road where the food will be much better. read more

My wife and I went here to celebrate the anniversary of Dad's passage. That needs to be done at a special place. It turns out that this is such a place. We had the Tomahawk steak, which was wonderful; the mac and cheese side, which was quite good as well; the Wasabi Tuna appetizer which was uncharacteristically served warm and boy, did that improve the taste. The Mrs. had a side dish of the brussel sprouts with bacon, again quite good. Service from Victor was at a professional standard; not doting nor ignoring but there at the right time. With increased prices comes the necessity for excellence and although I had previously held Flames in high regards amongst the finer steakhouses it did not live up to my memories or expectations this visit. Some of the food lacked any foreseen effort at all, ie a $30 tomato and mozz salad for two which simply had four slices of tomato and only two slices of mozz with a basil sprig on top. Simply cutting the two pieces of mozz in half at least each piece of tomato could have been enjoyed with it. And a little drizzle of olive oil or balsamic, maybe just even cracked sea salt or pepper would have shown some effort. I would say that the baked clams were excellent. And the calamari as well. Very tender and the marinara had a little spice to it which was nice. Portion on the calamari was on the smaller side though. Overall the food was good but once again the sides were very lackluster. Garlic mashed which were basic and you questioned if there was garlic, and Brussel sprouts with bacon which once again didn't seem to have any effort other than frying the sprouts and adding some chopped bacon on top. Plus for $17 each the portions were minuscule. The service was also not up to standards in my opinion for any price range. Throughout the evening everything was ok with the exception of being brought the dessert tray before our entrees arrived. But come after dinner things began to slip. Coffee order was taken before the dessert order, yet didn't come out until we had finished our desserts. No utensils when the desserts actually arrived. And a missed birthday recognition of some sort. With everything considered, although the food was good, I unfortunately would say it's not worth the premium prices. We recently visited for Valentines Day and everything was pretty amazing. We started with fried calamari (which was pretty fresh but I just want a fan of it), 2 glasses of Riesling (that tasted more like a Chardonnay lol), the porterhouse for 2, garlic mashed potatoes for 2 (though the portion was more for one, Mac and cheese for 2 (it had a great hint of Swiss cheese in with the creamy sauce), creamed spinach (I'm not a fan but my boyfriend loved it!).
