I've been here many times. I have ordered off the menu, but as soon as I tried a daily special I don't even look at the menu. They have great stuffed cabbage, and Thursdays beef stew is a favorite. The menu choices may not impress enough to comeback if your not local, so give a daily special a try. I do have to add that I would have given 5 stars but I didn't care for the salmon patties, and the potato soup is not consistant. Worth a try if you ache for home cooking that fills your belly. This used to be a gem especially for breakfast back in the day. I hadn't been in years and was expecting the same quality of food but was disappointed. Portions were smaller than I remember and did not taste fresh. I only ate half of my ham & cheese omelet and hash browns. Service was excellent though. I will not be returning. read more

The food was good. You get a bread basket, but no bread plate. I order 3 meals and one to go. I asked for a refill in a child's cup which was full of ice, was told we don't do refills. Well I won't be going back. About 5 Oz. Of Lemmon aide cost them a customer. There are to many restaurants around that are just as good, and will give a child a refill. Good Bye! read more

Went here with my father this morning for breakfast and it seemed like a nice small family friendly restaurant upon sitting down. When I received my food, a "Flamingo Skillet," there was a sad piece of half melted American cheese placed on top of it, which I immediately removed. The skillet itself wasn't horrible, I probably would have eaten there again until what had happened next. A woman at the table next to us complained to the owner about her nearly raw hash browns being "over cooked" because the kitchen apparently wouldn't take them back. The owner apologizes to her and then says "They aren't pure people like I am, they leech off the government. I'm not on drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke. There aren't many of us left." I didn't think this was really relevant to her hash browns, but whatever. He then walks over to the waitress and begins screaming at her, "This is a paying customer! Next time they (the cooks) won't take a plate back, you throw it in their faces!" At this point everyone in the restaurant became very quiet and uncomfortable. The owner continued to scream at everyone for roughly 10 minutes. After he was slightly calmed down he walks out of the kitchen and turns to one of the other waitresses and complained about how all of the cooks are "dumb asses" Definitely would not go visit this establishment again and I feel very bad for the people who have to deal with this man on a regular basis. read more

I'm thinking maybe I ordered the wrong thing on account of all the good reviews. Customer service was okay. The waitress brought me my salad with her thumb in it ... not cool. I ordered the lunch special which consisted of a chicken gyro and a Greek salad. Although I tried to eat this gyro I just did not like it. My Taziki came on the side which was fine but my sandwich was overwhelmed with raw tomatoes and thick cut onions. After a few bites I thought feta cheese could help ($0.80). It did not. This is a family diner that serves a great breakfast. I also enjoy their sandwiches but I am not impressed with some of their dinners.

Good food at cheap prices. Can't really complain with that combo. The pancakes are my usual go to when I'm there but lunch combos are alright as well. read more

I've been coming here since I was a little girl with my grandparents. I have 0 complaints! The staff is friendly and know their regulars and the regulars know them, its more a big family than just patrons. Yesterday I tried something new which is hard because I love what I get there and get the same thing almost everytime--I ordered the broiled cod with Cajun seasoning and their awesome French fries and the vegetable was corn--ALL OF IT WAS DELICIOUS! I was very pleased and will definitely add it into one of my regular options when I eat there! read more

I lol'd when I saw Robyn T.'s review, because we both agree 100% on one thing: that place totally does look like it belongs in Vice City! XD Seriously. The place is very, very retro, and one could say that they are in need of an update to the current decade. It's almost as if the people running the place are just stuck inside of a time-warp--BUT, that's not exactly a bad thing...it's sort of cool to eat at such an 80s place =] The walls are a mixture of pastel pinks and greens and baby blue, and the soundtrack to the place consists of Duran Duran and stuff like that. Flamingo's is usually packed with..."venerable clientele", and one doesn't always manage to find a good seat in there (there are servers, but you can seat yourself). All of the waitresses are very laid back, but for the most part attentive, and some of them will open up and talk to you if you engage with them (not something that I like to do, but apparently other people do). The prices for the food are dirt cheap, and most of the dishes are at least enjoyable. I wouldn't recommend getting anything too adventurous; what they seem to do best is breakfast food. The waffles, pancakes (esp. the blueberry kind), french toast, muffins, and the like are all very tasty, and as many times as I've gone there, I've never been disappointed with them. Flamingo's is worth a go if you want a cheap meal and you aren't going with any friends, or if you are in the mood for some breakfast. read more

My son and I ate here (not our first time nor our last) and we asked for loose burgers, really it was all my son was on the hunt for. We were informed they didnt have that on the menu. We said thank you and decided we would head out. On the way out the owner greeted us and asked how everything was, we informed him we asking for something not on the menu and would still return to eat another time, nonsense, what was the item, he asked. I told him, he asked us to sit back down, 5-10 mins later we had hot plates with homemade loose burgers. Yes it isnt a difficult menu item, but the gesture went a long way with us and has had a lasting memory for my child and I. Every time we have visited them I always notice how friendly and talkative he is with his customers, everyone seems to really enjoy his presence. The food has been spot on every time and everyone from the bus boys, servers to the line cooks are always so pleasant, patient and helpful, a true sign of the leadership they have there. read more

This is our favorite local family diner. The owner is always there and says hello to us every time we are there. They have a small water fountain and the waitresses always give our 3yr old daughter pennies to throw in. The flamingo stir fry is my favorite dish as well as the chicken Greek salad. They have the best Greek dressing I have ever had! My husband loves their waffles and they have great fries also. Prices are very reasonable for the portions. read more

I don't think I've ever gotten something I didn't like. My favorite dish is their salmon dinner. Probably a weird thing to get from a small restaurant like this or maybe that's what makes it so good. The owner is always there sitting up front and always makes it a point to smile and say hello. Oh, and their turkey noodle soup which is served on Saturday's is awesome! Great place, food and service, have been dining here for years. Their club sandwich, a weekend lunch staple, is the best Downriver. Biscuits and gravy are also a breakfast favorite. As for the recent drama making the news, some parents just need to learn that the world doesn't revolve around their little "special needs" snowflakes. I have been going here for as long as I can remember. both my parents use to go there alot. Phil has owned it for about 7 or 8 years I think. he has been doing work on it when they close every year for that few weeks in the summer a little at a time. the staff is pretty friendly. Phil is always either helping the cooks when it's busy or out in front checking on the costumers and helping. the Restaurant is never dirty nothing is every sticky they always have fresh coffee. the food that I eat has always been great. Phil does try and go around and check on the people that might be new in there. all the staff are great with people that have wheel chairs, walkers, canes. read more
