Adding to my previous review from 2 years ago: Went with my two year old and husband and it was fun and interactive way for her to have fun and experience cooking. I definitely recommend for young kids. Downside is street parking so we got there early before having to deal with traffic and looking for parking!

Renae was very good and friendly. Food, I can only speak for mine. I had the French toast. Omg sooooo good. I would go back just for that.
[[HIGHLIGHT]]An average brunch spot - closer to 3.5 than 4.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Granted, I didn't order their diy pancake option, which seems to be a nice interactive dining experience for the kids. The 2 eggs benedict dishes I ordered - wilbur and peppa - were standard benedicts. The hollandaise sauce here feels thick, more like an aioli, and I wish it had just a touch more acid. The potatoes were yummy though! Service was friendly. There was no one there on Friday during lunch even though their Yelp waitlist had 11 parties ahead of us. We decided to walk over to see the wait in-person after we were kept at the same spot on the waitlist for over 30 minutes. The manager said he forgot to turn off Yelp waitlist, so maybe call ahead to check. Parking is a little difficult- street parking only. There are some free residential spots a few blocks away.

Pretty good, honestly. The pancakes were great, the main dish I had was great. I thought the lattes our table had could have been a little better but then again, coffee is coffee. Flap Your Jacks is always a fun time with the fam when we're visiting San Diego! We came here on a Sunday morning and our party of 5 didn't have to wait long for a table. The customizable pancakes that you cook yourself on the table's built in griddle are the star of the menu, but since the kids in our family usually order that and have enough for leftovers, we like trying the other dishes on the menu. This time I ordered corned beef hash. I liked it but I should have read the menu more closely. It says they use thinly sliced corned beef but I'm used to finely chopped. It was still really good though, and the flavor was spot on! Their potatoes were especially delicious! We also had the Peppa Benedict and Huevos Con Chorizo, which were so good they all joined the clean plate club. The kids both decided to order Oreo batter for their pancakes, so we weren't able to make any interesting designs with pancakes since there was no contrast in color. But they still had fun! Our server was very friendly and helpful, and the decor inside is cute. I enjoyed the fun wall images of athletes holding giant spatulas the most. Downside is that finding street parking is a challenge sometimes.
Pretty neat place! We came across this place walking around in North Park. We were seated very quickly and our waiter was helpful as it was our first time here. The vibe is family friendly if you want to bring your kids. The best part was being able to make your own pancakes. Many batters and topping to choose from too! Definitely recommend to give this place a try.
Cutest breakfast spot ever! Flap Your Jacks was such a fun and adorable place! We loved the DIY pancake station right at the table -- flipping your own pancakes just makes breakfast way more exciting. The batters were super tasty (we tried the red velvet and original -- so good) and there were tons of toppings to choose from. It felt like a breakfast party! But it wasn't just about pancakes -- we also tried the chilaquiles, breakfast sandwich, mushroom scramble, burger, and corned beef hash... and wow, everything was delish. Big portions, big flavor, zero complaints. The vibes were great, the food was amazing, and it was such a fun experience for our whole family. We'll definitely be back!
I've been here a few times. The place is cute with spatula decorations. The concept is great. My kids like going there to make their own pancakes. I'm not a fan as I care more about the taste. I think they are ok. I had corn beef harsh and it was good. I like that they used sliced corned beef instead of canned. The chilaquiles were tasty. The service was ok, not really welcoming. Usually there's a long wait so be prepared.
We've been here multiple times with Family and Friends. The Food and the Experience is always good. We came here today because my Son wanted to check if the place was still good as before, prior to bringing his Friends here. So far he said that it's still the same. The food is good and still Fun for Family and Friends to dine at. One of my family top favorite place to go for breakfast. The big draw for them is making their own pancakes on the flat top griddle. Their favorite flavors is the buttermilk, Oreo and Red velvet. They are fine with the free syrup that comes with it. Sometimes we opt in to get the toppings. Watch the screens for different ideas on what other people have created. There are tables that can accommodate big parties, booths and they also have outdoor seating. If you want to make pancakes you have to sit inside. Service has always been good when we go. Attentive, friendly and good team work. Parking Free street parking or North Park Garage. Parking is $1 an hour. My favorite foods: * Wilbur Benedict: I have a hard time straying from this because I enjoy it so much. The pork belly is crisp on the outside and tender in the inside. I enjoy watching slicing the poach egg and soaking it to everything else on the plate. It makes the homemade cheese biscuit even better. The chipotle hollandaise sauce is wonderful. * Juliette Brioche French Toast: I came in famished and ordered the Wilbur Benedict and this. The server warned me it was big. So I asked my son to share it along with his plate. We couldn't finish it. It's topped with fresh berries, whipped cream and vanilla bean syrup. Now I order it by itself with bacon and still have to share. * The Cube: It's a brioche square cube filled with chocolate ganache, topped with banana slices, whipped cream and vanilla syrup. We have eaten this as a dessert. * Loaded Omelet: My son always gets this with his pancakes. It has bacon, sausage, mozzarella, cheese and your choice of a toast. We discovered this place thanks to a Yelp perk and thanks to that we have been coming ever since. We like to bring out of town guests. My kids always ask to come to make their pancakes on the griddle. Service is always great . We will keep coming back.

This place is fun, but remember that places that have a gimmick typically have a host of other issues. My first issue is the pricing and value for what you get. My friend came a while back ago and said they cut down the size of their squeeze bottles almost by half. It's criminal that they charge $2 more for any toppings considering how expensive everything already is. We ended up getting one squeeze bottle and one plate of the eggs benedict and it was so mid. The pork belly didn't really complement the eggs that well and they did not give enough hollandaise sauce. Sure the experience was fun, but with the little batter you get, you can't make that much and I personally don't think it's worth it. This place could be good if they didn't charge gimmick prices. It was a pretty decent breakfast. The enchiladas were probably the best dish we got. The pancakes didn't have much flavor and tasted as if they weren't cooked properly. The chilaquiles, the green sauce was better than the red. There are no griddles outside so if you wanted to make your own, you'd have to sit inside. Service was good. Of course we had to monitor and help our kids (4 years old to 9 years old), but they did great designing it and had so much fun. Parking - street parking or paid parking lots. Interior decor - so cool and unique! Looking at the picture - love the decor. The ceiling spatula is cool. There's also so many areas you can take cute pictures. There's a roomy inside waiting area in the front of the restaurant dining area. The dining area - there's a lot of tables/seating area. Impressive decor and clean. Service - amazing. They are so attentive. We came with our kids and they were always checking on us. Heard about Flap your jacks from a friend so we decided to try it out . [[HIGHLIGHT]]First impressions it's super cool and the restaurant looks amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is great very nice staff we when first got here and our waitress was knowledgeable and very nice . My daughter had so much fun making her own pancakes they were also delicious. The Babe Benedict was so good came out so fast and was super fresh . I love flap your jacks! One of my favorite breakfast / brunch spots in north park. Their stuffed French toast square is to die for. I've never had French toast as amazing as the cube. I normally also get chilaquiles which is also really amazing. They have griddles on the tables to make your own pancakes which could be fun but I prefer their other breakfast entrees. This place is located in the North Park area where finding parking can be quite difficult, we were looking to get some breakfast/lunch so we decided to try it. The place is nice and each table has like a pan to cook your pancakes in case you get that option. We ordered: - Babe Benedict.- the poached eggs were cooked perfectly but the lemon hollandaise sauce was very sour so I didn't like it and the breakfast potatoes were overcooked and burnt. - Chilaquiles los Meros Meros.- ordered with half green salsa which was good and the other half with red sauce which I don't recommend (too bland without flavor). It comes with very little refried beans at bottom. This plate was a big disappointment. I think this place is good if you have kids and want them to cook their own pancakes for fun. read more

This is the perfect breakfast spot for a date! It can be interactive while also getting some good food out of it. While they definitely pride themselves on the flapjacks, there is also an extensive menu with other breakfasts like cinnamon rolls and eggs Benedict. But when I come here, I usually opt for the flapjacks. I love that there are always plenty of flavors and toppings to choose from to make your experience a yummy one! If you're ever in the North Park area in San Diego, you definitely want to visit Flap Your Jacks . It's a brunch style restaurant where you prepare your own pancakes with a variety of batters and toppings. So cool and the kids really love it. Their menu also includes brunch style dishes if you're not feeling like pancakes. I had the Reuben Benedict and it was delicious! Service was great and the ambiance was nice. Expected a long wait after looking on here, but virtually no wait. We did the build your own pancakes, which is the whole purpose of this place. Friend got "seasonal" which was pumpkin and I got the gluten free option. Pumpkin didn't taste much like pumpkin, but they do give you plenty of toppings. The gluten free was congealed and was just ok. The texture was chewy and grainy. The table kept turning itself off in the middle of cooking the pancakes. The table top does not cook evenly, even when it's on. They charge extra for regular syrup. Which is super weird when pancakes should come with regular syrup and random flavors should be extra, but making an extra $4 for maple syrup is nearly a guarantee. We ordered scrambled eggs and bacon, both of which were delicious! Parking is VERY challenging. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It'd be fun for kids; there were lots of screaming kids and kids running around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Likely would not return. Cool concept but failed execution. read more

Plenty of eateries and things to do (barcade, study, farmer's market on Thursdays). The place itself is pretty neat. They're very creative with their pancake influenced designs - art, examples of pancake art, etc. It's like a Kbbq spot but just a griller in the middle. I dig the pop music in the background. It's a pretty fun place that's great for both family and friends. FOOD: Pancake Batter - Cookies & Cream, side of Nutella (Recommend) Awesome! You get a reasonable sized bottle which makes things easier to make different designs of pancakes. Corned Beef Hash (Recommend) Lovely presentation and a comforting dish. The potatoes were crisped and buttery and the corn beef brought a pleasant savory and peppery kick to it. Roll Over Cinnamon Lover (A-Ok) Solid! I was craving a cinammon roll and I got it. It may not be your Cinabonn roll but it gets the job done. However I'm curious to try more of their "cube". Sweet Harmony (Recommend) A refreshing sweet drink with a hint of tartness. I've been meaning to try this place! Glad I went on a Tuesday morning, because I was able to find a spot just walking in for 2. Our host/server was great, he was friendly and attentive to our needs and even gave some good recommendations :) Food was great! Corned beef hash was finished by my friend, and then I had the power frittata and I loved all the flavors! Never seen this type of dish before so yum! Important for anyone with a peanut allergy -- check any side toppings you get for your pancakes because my table's experience could have compromised someone who's allergic to peanuts. We had white chocolate chips on the side for red velvet pancakes and there were a couple of rogue peanut chips in there. Someone at my table, who has a peanut allergy, ate one and they started coughing. So my word of advice is to take caution just in case. As far as the restaurant, itself, it's a fun concept and the food is pretty good. There's a nice variety of eggs benedict to choose from here, in addition to this eatery's namesake. What's really fun about Flap Your Jacks is that you can design your pancakes any way you want since you make them yourself on the griddle! And while you're waiting to be seated, you can admire the pancake art slide on the TV in the lobby to get inspiration. read more

The idea of this place is super cute! You get to create your own pancakes on a given skillet and have the choice of batter and additional toppings. They give you a squeeze bottle filled with batter that you can get creative with. We chose: - Buttermilk Batter (3/5): Flavor was decent but bland, nothing special. - Toppings (3/5): We got bananas, strawberries, and chocolate syrup. Bananas were mushy, and to be honest, the price for these added toppings were not justified for what we got. They also charge extra for maple syrup, just FYI. - FYJ Hash browns (4/5): We added this in to get a little saltiness in our meal and it balanced out well Service was okay, we came on a weekday morning and it wasn't too busy but only saw our server at the beginning and end of our meal and we wanted to add more items in between but gave up trying to get our server's attention. Overall, if you have kids or want to do it for the experience, then this is a great place to go. Otherwise, I've had better brunch places. read more

My friend and I have been looking to try this place for a few years after seeing some TikToks about it. The wait was quite long this Sunday morning, but thankfully there is a system to check into the waitlist online, so we were able kill some time on the drive over. I enjoyed the experience overall! I did think that the DIY pancakes were overpriced, but they were good - we got the red velvet pancakes with strawberry and banana slices on the side and vanilla syrup. We had a little too many laughs trying to imitate the pancake art featured (you can see my attempt at drawing my partner here). We shared one, so I also ordered a Wilbur Benedict, which was a nice portion. All in all, I liked the bustle of the restaurant. Actually came here for Yelp event and took an order to go. It was just the plain Buttermilk Pancakes and Whipped Mascarpone topping. I actually wanted the red velvet pancakes but they don't have those to go to avoid any cross-contamination on their griddles at the back. The custom flavors are only available for stove top. To go orders were for gluten-free or buttermilk pancakes only. That said I actually really loved even those buttermilk pancakes so I can only imagine how good the red velvet must be! Just the right amount of sweet and I didn't even need to add any toppings on it. Mascarpone was perfectly smooth and delicious on its own as well. The service was not so great though I don't know what is going on with these young ppl. The table was dirty and sticky though. Went here yesterday with my friend for brunch apart of northpark passport week. It was surprisingly busy for a friday, we waited about 15 to 20 minutes. It was a very fun brunch experience where we cooked our own pancakes at our table on a cute grill. They supply you with all the essentials, pancake mix, toppings, syrups, and colorful spatulas. Adorable brunch spot for many occasions! Although I think this place would be great to take kids or for a date night - so it's an interactive and can be a creative activity to make your own fun shaped pancakes. We tried the oreo and bananna pancake mix. The Oreo pancakes were flavorful enough that you didn't really need any additional toppings. I think the banana Pancakes could have used some banana slices. By themselves, they had a subtle banana taste. We ordered two pancake mixes, and there were only 2 of us, I would recommend only 1 mix for 2-3 people. You can make a lot of pancakes with one mix! We wanted to pair our sweet breakfast with something savory, so we also ordered the Peppa benedict. It was amazing! Perfect runny egg with housemade hollandaise sauce, and crunchy, well seasoned potatoes on the side. Parking was a challenge, the restaurant is located in a busy part of North park. So I will just keep that in mind, give yourself some time to find street parking or find a nearby parking lot, or just elect to Uber. read more

Stopped in at Flap Your Jacks based on the recommendation that their concept is great for families and kids. What a cool place! Smack dab in the middle of North Park and a few blocks away from the convenient parking garage, we walked in and immediately found a table. While Flap Your Jacks is known for everyone having a griddle at the center of the table where you can cook your own customizable pancake-concoctions, their breakfast menu is not just limited to cookin' flapjacks either. We ordered a round of pancake mix for the table and seeing the dedicated portion of their menu to just eggs benedict, I opted for the Smokey Benedict - an eggs benedict combo featuring smoked salmon. This thing was massive! You're greeted with a hearty portion of smoked salmon, slathered in hollandaise, all draped over a delicious croissant. While I was chipping away at my delicious benedict the family was definitely enjoying the pancake-making. Given that we just barely put a dent into the things we wanted to see if North Park and Balboa Park, if back this way again we plan on coming back. read more

I have been here a few times (friends asked to go each time) and I wouldn't recommend it unless you are really looking for something cute and a bit different. It's a very cute idea making your own pancake art. The batter is not good. The ambiance is lively and fun. The French toast was dry and had no flavor, but the mascarpone was acceptable. Our friends ordered the smoked salmon Benedict and the croissants looked old and flat. We really enjoyed the service, she was mostly attentive to us. We went with a group of eight of us and with more than six there's an automatic 18% gratuity, which we knew, and our waitress let us know that we did not have to tip her on top of that which was kind and surprising to see. Don't come here unless you want sub-par pancakes and only pancakes. These were fun to make but more for the kids. The other dishes were not good. My French toast came out cold, burger was too raw for my tasting, and service was very average. The corn beef hash wasn't a hash and just slices of chewy meat. They seemed to rush things since it was a busy Saturday. The concept is cool but wouldn't come back. read more

Parking is tough... Cool concept. The tables have a grill, so you make your pancakes, hence the name. We were hungry, so we sat at the bar, and they made our pancakes. We ordered a stack of buttermilk pancakes and the cinnamon roll. They provide great service, and they work hard. The cinnamon roll was probably one of the best I have had...and I live near SF's Devil's Teeth and their legendary cinnamon rolls. read more

Me and my son wanted to get some breakfast in the neighborhood and decided to try this place out since it was near by. Parking is decent and it's a short walk if you need to park down the streets. One you arrive the atmosphere is great! They have their own theme and it's great! We were met by Sean our server and were quickly seated. Sean helped us with the menu and we ordered. We both ordered the breakfast sandwich and 1 waffle. The food came out in a decent time and the taste I'd the food was amazing! Definitely a plus! The place was a little pricey, but the taste made up for it! And they have military discount, so that's a plus! I will definitely be coming back here to try other options! read more

Are you pet friendly?
We have a patio that is pet friendly, but unfortunately we aren’t able to have the griddles outside. The rest of our delicious menu is available.
Do you take reservations?
We are only able to take some reservations for large parties during the week but you can always add your name on to the waitlist in Yelp before you come in if there is a wait.
Do you have locations anywhere besides San Diego like orange county anywhere?

Hello is fyo shareable ? I have three kids would that be $8 per kid per $2 per topping per kid or is it shareable as far as the experience ? I'm sure you can imagine kids wanting multiple toppings which will add up lol
Honestly anything you get there are big portions and shareable

Right when they open or later in the morning

Thank you for reaching out! We can host large parties of various sizes, but our largest table can seat up to18 people. That table is often reserved for special groups, but we can accommodate many different large groups. We hope to see you soon!

No they don't. I took my son there for his 17th birthday and they didn't do anything special.

As of 2/22, they don't have any posted online nor did they have any readily available in the restaurant

Since we are in purple tier, do they still do the FYO?
No unfortunately they aren't. I took my son there on the 28th of November and they can't have the griddles outside. They bring you pancakes and little dishes with the toppings you chose. So you can still build your own but not FYO.
Are they allowing any indoor seating currently so guests can participate in the FYO?
No indoor seating but you can still order from the FYO menu. They make the pancakes of your batter choice and mix in then bring out your toppings (per their recent Instagram post).
Is the full menu available all day?
Yes. My bf ordered a burger while my son and I made pancakes.
Can you cook your own pancakes in the patio area as well or is in only inside?
The Create Your Own pancakes option is only available inside, but we do still have the rest of our extensive and delicious menu available on our dog-friendly patio!
How late can you order the flap your jacks? Does it end at a certain time
Currently they close at 3pm
How much is the FYO?
