I saw a sign outside the cafe that said they offer book club events, which immediately showed me how community-minded the cafe is! My friend and I walked in and were stunned by the beautiful, tasteful decorations and greenery lining the walls. As I browsed the menu, I was impressed with the selection of toasts, sandwiches, brunch classics (like waffles), and flatbreads! I ordered their seasonal strawberry shortcake (?) latte with low expectations and the BLTA, and my friend ordered the orange blossom latte and lox toast. We browsed the various gift items near the counter. They have t-shirts, candles, coffee tumblers, jams+jellies, and little game packs for sale! My friend and I walked out into the patio that I had seen on social media and were gawking at the beautiful pink walls and whimsical patio tables+chairs. The barista brought out our drinks, and we took our pictures and cheered. It was so creamy and the coffee flavor was just perfect in a way that made me gasp and jump with excitement! My friend and I swapped our drinks and the orange blossom latte was even better! It was perfectly sweet and creamy in a way that was not too heavy or overpowering. There are outlets around the cafe that are very accessible and it is the perfect environment to get some work done, read, or catch up with friends. We noticed that there is a restaurant in the back that has an amazing, tasty menu! We decided that this is going to be both of our top cafes in SD and promised each other to come back to enjoy the restaurant in the back!

very good coffee but i wouldn't recommend the bites. i had a very underwhelming avo toast and my friends had croissants and breakfasts bites and they were not very good. the backyard lounge area is so cute though so it's super instagrammable! service is not like super on it, since you order at the front and pay and then they deliver it. but don't really check on you or anything afterwards.

Drinks: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 I had the seasonal matcha which was blood orange with almond milk, it was so delicious, perfectly balanced and the matcha was good good.. We had the drink in their cute patio in the back. Love this place and happy it is not overly priced. I will be back to try the other drinks!

One of my favorite places not just in Mission Hills, but San Diego proper, to grab a coffee and enjoy a nice seat while working, reading or catching up with a friend. A lot of people don't realize that they have a beautiful courtyard in the back of the cafe with tons of seats. I think I enjoy the food they server here just as much as the coffee. My husband loves their fried egg sandwich on a croissant and I'm a fan of their homemade sourdough bagels. I believe everything is made in house and you can really taste the quality. For coffee, I usually get a latte or Cortado. I appreciate their milk to espresso ratio in their drinks. A lot of coffee shops going too heavy on the milk and it's washes out the espresso. My only critique/suggestion for management is to tone down the music volume in the courtyard. It's been really loud a couple times I've been there and it's such a peaceful space and I don't want to feel like I'm at a loud bar.

Beautiful cafe! My first time was for a crafting event that was being hosted here. When you walk in, it looks like a small coffee shop but there is actually a larger courtyard as you enter further. Tried their seasonal matcha which was pomegranate at the time. Very good although I would've liked the flavors to be stronger. Nice service from every employee I interacted with. Street parking only

Cute coffee shop that also serves cocktails. The patio is situated in between the building so not sure how much sunlight it gets during the day. In the evening it has mood lighting. TBH I can't remember what drink I ordered. Will go back and update again.

I (literally) ran by Paradis and they were kind enough to let me fill up my water bottle. I promised I'd be back with friends and was eyeing the deviled eggs the gal behind the counter was making. As promised, a few hours later, I cam back with my hubs and besties for a brunch time nosh. They happened to have an empanada pop-up and were out of the chilaquiles that I had tried to order, so I went with the empanadas. The gal making them was located on the back patio along with another gal selling a fun bright pink beverage. Hubs ordered the breakfast sandwich and bestie a BLT (her hubs got a beer but no food). We also ordered a couple of cappuccinos which were delicious and made perfectly. Both of the sandwiches were delicious overflowing with their ingredients. I really wanted the deviled eggs - didn't see them on the menu and then noticed on my way out that there were lots of snackable items in the cold case. I should have asked! The patio is small but sunny and cheerful. Cute decor all around. I also bought a bottle of wine for the road from their retail area which has all kinds of small food treats.

As I was driving by I saw a sign on the street that read Jamon Iberico Today! From 6-9pm. Although I was not there for the jamon it's good to know they do that! The space is small and intimate. They have a few seats inside and outside. The service was nice and efficient. You order and pay at the counter. Which is perfect if you're only there for HH. I noticed they have various wines in boxes a lot of Italian wines. I wonder if they have a wine club? Or just wine aficionados. We were there for their HH and ordered two red sangrias which were pretty yummy and a couple of their pintxos. The deviled eggs and their prosciutto wrapped dates. Both were good and small, it's ok given the price. Paradis was a pit stop on our way to dinner, and they served their purpose for the evening. Look forward to coming back!

Paradis is cutest little coffee shop! We ordered at the counter in the front of the cafe and it's so cozy. The staff was friendly and showed us the back patio. It's not just a coffee shop since they serve martinis and other cocktails. I ordered an iced hazelnut praline latte with vanilla cold foam. The hazelnut praline flavor was delicious and the cold foam was the perfect addition! They decorated for Christmas and everything was pink! Definitely a great spot for a drink and a fun photo moment!

Excellent nosh and coffee with creative flavors. Lovely place to sit and chat in the front of the shop or there is a larger patio area in the back for a longer more leisurely meal. @sturdygirlstyle #sturdygirlstyle

Such a cute cafe!!! Went there last week and only got matcha but they had plenty of food options as well as drinks and cocktails. The patio in the back is so cute. They also have events and live music / jazz. Will definitely be back!!

This place is perfect for a lowkey weekday brunch. The drinks were solid, but what really stood out to me was the food options! The Paradis Salad was one of the best salads I've had, especially for a cafe! The Stracciatella Toast was also delicious, with intricate flavors that complemented each other. The staff was friendly, but I would say service is very minimal. The outside courtyard is lovely and it provides a different and unique space that not many cafes in San Diego can do. It is a great place to get some work done, but it is pretty busy and seating is first come first serve.

I initially ordered the something and picante (can't remember the full name) and found it to be way too sweet. Then switched to a basic Lalo with soda and lime to cleanse my palette. After tried their version of an espresso martini which was quite good but made with nitro brew and kahlua so a bit on the sweeter side. I'm really glad that I found Oculto because it has been one of the highlights of my San Diego trip. First of all, the concept of the seven deadly sins is really cool. The space is absolutely moody, intimate, and thoughtfully designed. It has an atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy your drink rather than rush through it. And since I don't really drink, I was definitely going slow. And I was alone, but the good part was I found myself just taking it all in instead of reaching for my phone. I started with an espresso martini-style cocktail that was smooth, balanced, and the perfect way to ease into the evening. For my second drink, I asked for the bartender's choice, and it ended up being one of my favorite cocktails I've had in a long time. It featured lychee, strawberry, and cardamom, and was garnished with a beautiful little rose. It was creative, elegant, and every flavor worked together perfectly. The cocktails were outstanding, but what really made the experience stand out was the service. Devin was an excellent bartender and an amazing conversationalist. He was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging, making me feel welcome from the moment I sat down. He took the time to craft a drink based on flavors I enjoy, and it was clear he cares about creating a great experience, not just serving drinks. If you're looking for a cocktail bar with incredible drinks, a gorgeous atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality, I can't recommend Oculto enough. Full disclosure, I'm a sucker for a themed speakeasy, and Oculto delivered with its Mexican gothic twist. Entering through a confessional booth, confessing your sins before once again giving over to temptation as you sample seven deadly sins-themed libations; oh yeah, this is the themed spectacle that I adore! For those wanting to visit, Oculto is small and reservations are a must. They also have a two drink minimum and the seatings are timed. Everything we ordered was fantastic and I adored the presentation. My only complaint, and the reason for the four stars, is that despite its small size, service was still on the slower side. I get that the bartenders are making complicated craft cocktails, but when you have a two drink minimum AND a time limit for your guests, maybe speed it up a little bit? We would have loved to order another round but sadly ran out of time on our reservation. But everything else about the bar was fantastic, and I will definitely be back for another night of debauchery in the future!

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. We left unsatisfied and ended up getting in-n-out after.

Although they're known for their burger, delicious drinks, and signature ice cream sandwich, there's so much more to write home about. I RECENTLY HAD ONE OF THE BEST MEALS I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME HERE. The steak sampler we had, with sides of honey gochujang carrots, and beautifully scalloped potatoes, left us in ecstasy! The four cuts of beef were incredibly tender, deftly seasoned, and seared to perfection. The accompanying sauces, except for the tomato one, were also really good. And I have even mentioned the twice baked potato or the BROCCOLI!!! YES, THE BROCCOLI!!! If you get nothing else, get yourself a burger and some broccoli-TRUST!!! I could go on, but I'll leave you with this...the parking is not pleasant, but the food is fantastic, the music is fresh, and the drinks are splendid. Starlite, you must be my lucky star. Super HUGE thanks to Dani, the chefs, and the crew for making Starlite so amazing. Enjoy my friends.

Such an interesting layout, but it works! We got to sit at a table right next to the waterfall and pond. Our server was very nice. Probably the only slip-up in service, was that our main came out when we had barely put a dent in apps. We were probably chatting and sipping on wine too much? The expo realized, kept the mains, and said take your time. Then he brought out mains when we were ready. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. My friend and I decided to both get the steak on the hot stone. It comes out raw and you have to keep track of time to cook it how you like it. You can choose flavored salts and butters and sauces for the side. We also shared the pickled strawberry salad. It had lots of toppings, flavor, and textures. The pozole verde was also excellent.

I like that they regularly introduce limited-time food and cocktail specials, so there's usually something new to try while still keeping some of their popular favorites on the menu. Everything I've ordered over multiple visits has been well prepared, and I haven't had a bad meal yet. It's definitely on the pricier side, so I see it more as a place for celebrations, date nights, or when you want a unique dining experience rather than an everyday meal. Between the food, drinks, and the incredible decorations, it feels worth it for those occasions. One piece of advice: make a reservation.
