This is such a great fun brunch spot for families, friends, couples, everyone! I've been here a few times with family and friends and everyone has loved it. We usually get a couple batters and toppings for the table and then pick an entree on the main menu. They have great Benedicts and their French toast cube is so good and filled with Nutella. I love San Diego's brunch scene and this is a great place to have some fun with your food that's a little different than the more bougie spots. There are options for almost everyone (GF, vegan, vegetarian) and the food is just as good as the atmosphere! I just don't think this place is worth your time or money. I get the idea, it is fun and cool, but you could get so much better at home. The pancake batter is just so terrible, and tastes like nothing. I found that there was just too much oil, and the pans don't get hot enough. We also tried the french toast, it was not that great, pretty flavorless, and just not worth the calories. The service was pretty quick, we got everything we ordered in a matter of minutes. This place is super cute, very "Instagrammable" vibes and I love brunch in a bright space. Parking can be a little tough, especially on the weekends, so plan ahead. You can also join the Yelp waitlist virtually - I highly recommend doing this so you don't have to stand around for a long time. We did this for a party of four and was able to enjoy getting ready at our own pace before meeting up when we were near the top of the list. I had the monte cristo and it was nearly perfect. French toast was great, plenty of ham inside, and topped with fresh berries. However, the berries had a fair amount of water content (you can see in my photo) so as I ate the dish, a little puddle formed. I substituted potatoes for hash browns and they were exactly how I love my hash browns - stringy, crispy edges, no frills. I'd come back just for this - though I don't see it on the menu anymore. My partner had the Reuben Benedict and it was decent. Eggs weren't as runny as we hoped but not cooked solid either. The bread was a bit tough to cut through, which made it a little messy to consume. However, all benedicts are a little messy, so no big deal. Roasted potatoes were just right. I make pancakes at home regularly and didn't try the FYO option here (I know, I know, it's the whole point) but our friends indulged and it was a fun experience for all of us. The pancakes were decent too. They make it very easy. Prices are about average for the food but portions are fairly large, especially with the generous potatoes. I recommend this place for anyone who likes breakfast foods, want to enjoy breakfast with friends, don't really cook, and/or don't like to clean up after cooking. read more

My friend recommended this restaurant in North Park and it was so delicious! We really wanted to go for the flipping and making pancakes experience, but unfortunately we couldn't wait for the +hour wait time that day. So we'll definitely have to go back for that as well. As for brunch, their regular menu looked extremely good so we weren't too bummed just to try their a la carte menu. It was quite busy and we sat outside at the patio area. It was a bit chilly and there were narrow streets that we directly saw the cars and traffic in North Park. Luckily, even if loud noise started, it quickly died down as cars moved. It was a challenge to find good parking in North Park though. The service was friendly and nice. We ordered the Huevos con Chorizo, a side of ham and bacon, Chilaquiles los Meros Meros with eggs. Everything was really yummy and a hearty breakfast. It was the perfect start before exploring other shops in North Park. I've been hearing about this place for years but finally decided to try it out ! It's located around north park area so the parking can be kind of a hassle during the morning breakfast rush . My friend n I got there around 11 and there was only a 10-15 min wait which wasn't so bad . I ended up ordering the breakfast sandwich and it wasn't anything special or wow about it for me to go back . I used to like this place more when I first moved to San Diego. I went again today and felt like the batter was a bit too thin. Maybe this is their way of saving money and giving more batter when it's really just thinned down. Anyways I feel like one of the servers was not very friendly towards me and my family. They didn't seem to have a good attitude and seemed annoyed to be working. We nicely asked them for something, and they didn't seem enthused. Another server was amazing though. I agree from some other comments that it may be a bit pricy to pay $2-3 per topping when you don't get a huge amount either. For example, 5 strawberries cut up would be $3. I would've been more inclined to get more than 1 topping if it was less pricy. Or a suggestion is to include 1 topping with the base price. I think that was improve customer satisfaction tremendously!!! I like the ambiance and think the concept is nice. Flap Your Jacks is a decent execution of a really cool concept. While making your own pancakes at your table is cool for the novelty, the dishes on the main menu seem like a better value. I visited on a Saturday morning around 10am and there was only a nominal (less than 5 min) wait. If you opt to make your own pancakes, you can choose from a large list of batters, mix-ins, toppings, and sides. The list was a bit overwhelming - I almost wanted to ask for a dry-erase marker! I went with the Oreo batter ($10), Kit Kat mix-ins ($2), chocolate sauce ($2), and a side of sausage. The batter was good for about 6 small to medium sized pancakes. I felt like making your own pancakes would've been better had I gone with a group. I also wish you were given nonstick spray or some way to clean the griddle - the center of mine was clearly worn down and my pancakes would get stuck there, so I had to avoid it. I found this place on Yelp and thought it would be a fun experience so we went for brunch. There's a free public parking lot around the corner and if that's full, there's public parking a few blocks from that. The walls are decorated with pancake art (perhaps from customers?) and each TV screen shows either their menu items or more pancake art! Each table has a burner in the middle where you can make your pancakes. Start with the type of batter you want (I chose Banana Bread), add your toppings (there's a list of fruit or candy to chose from), and add choose your topping (I got the Cinnamon Glaze). The batter comes out in a squeeze bottle so you can "draw" on your burner! It's a really fun idea for adults and kids! It can get pricy though...the batter to start was already $8 and each additional item ranged from $1 - $3. The Banana Bread batter didn't taste like banana bread which is what I expected. It tasted like normal batter. I got blueberries as the topping, and what made this really good was the cinnamon glaze syrup. It tied everything together. I think the batter could have made 4-5 medium sized pancakes, but I was drawing with it, so I don't know. We also got the Smokey Benedict and shared it. This came with salmon, a poached egg, and was on top of a croissant! I really liked it on the croissant. A lemon hollandaise sauce was drizzled on top which wasn't too lemon-y in flavor, but it wasn't very memorable, either. Overall, this was just okay. To drink, I got the Tropical Cure - Papaya, mango, orange, basil, coconut water, and pineapple juice. This was just okay. I tasted more of the pineapple juice than anything. If I ever came back I'd stick with water and save $5. Or I'd get something with just two flavors like their Sweet Harmony (orange and strawberry). read more

I was dropping my father in law off at the airport today. So, I looked up to see what was good around there to eat for breakfast. This place popped up. I checked out the pictures and was sold. This restaurant is cute and fun. My kids are older but they still had fun here. Making cute little characters with the pancake batter. My son picked the buttermilk pancake batter. I got the Juliette brioche French toast and my daughter got the the cube. My husband got the CHILAQUILES LOS MEROS MEROS! My French toast was amazing! The pancakes were good too. They have gender neutral bathrooms. The parking is not so great. This place is located on a busy street. So you're going to need to find parking elsewhere and walk to the restaurant. I know I'm a plain Jane. We asked for butter and Maple Syrup. In addition, we ordered 2 side order of bacon and one egg each. The batter was flavorful and I put butter on the grill to cook it to perfection. The bacon was a bit too crispy for me and I ordered my eggs well done, burnt and scrambled hard but it was not. Flap Your Jacks is a family friendly place with bright decor and different breakfast food to choose from including their specialty, make your own flapjacks. The kids enjoyed being our chefs for the day as they flipped their pancakes with colorful spatulas and then were able to add toppings such as bananas, strawberries and Nutella. We also ordered the mushroom scramble and North Park scramble which came with healthy portions of potatoes and a slice of bread. And couldn't forget about ordering a cold brew and oat milk latte to wake us up! Our waitress was friendly and the staff was attentive. They had more than enough bathrooms too. They provide you with a batter bottle so you can create your own fun designs (this reminded me how bad of an artist I am). I honestly loved the whole experience. Lots of laughter and smiles throughout the whole process. You get a lot of batter for the price as well. I also got the Corned Beef Hash to have something a bit savory. Absolutely delicious! After moving to San Diego, my boyfriend and I had to find our staple breakfast spot. We have been here twice already. I love the concept of making your own pancakes. There are various batters you can pick from- we went with the classic buttermilk. After picking the batter, you can pick toppings- we picked chocolate chips and whipped cream with classic syrup. Each squeezable tube provides 6-8 pancakes which is great for sharing. The concept is excellent for kids, brunch with friends or even a date. We also orders the chilaquiles with half red sauce and half green sauce with a poached egg and avocado. The chilaquiles were DELICIOUS!!! The portion sizes are definitely shareable.
