Came here recently and ordered the Eggs a la France. I liked how they had a "Taste the World" section of their menu with items from various regions. The service was great and our server was amazing. The food itself was good but it was missing something I can't quite put my finger on. I think maybe the bread or sauce was a little bit sweet which threw me off, but it was still really good. It's interesting how they're only open on Sundays. They also don't take reservations but luckily a few of our friends arrived earlier to put their name down. I would recommend arriving a bit earlier than you expect just in case! read more

I had the good fortune of living behind the restaurant around the corner on Utah Street. I visited them the first week they opened for business. Same place, much smaller. Hannah operates a gourmet catering service and after receiving comments from customers wishing Hannah had a restaurant, that's exactly what she did. I started going there on a semi regular basis with my daughter, whose hair Hannah loved! I brought friends to Hannah's and soon we were welcomed as family! Here is a person who knows how to cook with herbs and spices! They were able to expand the space for the restaurant and focused on her take of a country's regional food. She also started a family style dinner, also focusing on a different country every month. Covid sure presented a challenge but they adjusted and are still serving Sunday brunch! I went thru a bad period dealing with Parkinson's disease and my daughter would go to Sunday brunch and always came home with lots of wishes of love and support from Hannah and her staff. When I finally was able to go to Hannah's again I was greeted with hugs and so much love from Hannah I was reduced to tears. I am so grateful to have met Hannah and her husband and the staff there. So for me I came for the food and stayed for the friendship. And the food is all so good!! My favorites are the baguette French toast ( get the lemon custard), and the terracotta berry pancakes. I miss the days of red velvet pancakes with chocolate chips and cream cheese frosting. The omelettes are always so fresh tasting and so are the flourless chocolate cookies! Love the authentic tastes at Hannah's Visited them for brunch and dinner back in 2018 when they were opened regular hours. I was apprehensive to go back once they started serving only brunch- I was afraid they would be packed as they don't take reservations. I've gone for brunch twice this year and both times they had opened tables. The good: The dishes are good! I've had their: - Eggs a la españa: potatoes , manchego, chorizo, served with toast. Pretty filling and yummy. - Eggs a la Marrakesh: the lamb in this dish is delicious and makes for a savory breakfast. The pita that is served with it could be fresher. -Eggs a la France: good dish. Plating could be improved. The bad/room for improvement: The service is slow (but not from the kitchen). They seem well staffed with servers, however, the servers seem distracted with personal conversations. The plating on the eggs a la France doesn't work. The dish is served on a long rectangular plate making it hard to cut/eat. Overall a good place for breakfast, especially if you're looking for something less traditional. Highly recommend. We have ordered many Sunday pick up meals and never a one has disappointed. Menu is rotating, but a few staples are found week to week. Normally, when someone orders to go, it ends up being questionable. However, the Sunday pick up meals here are top notch and incredible. My favorites are the lasagna, their meat dishes, their shrimp dishes, and various other rotating items. Too many to list. As sides, the creamy potato and Butternut Squash Mash is incredible. Great French bistro feel, great ambience and wonderful friendly staff. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I wasn't super blown away by the flavors of what I had ordered, which was the Espana breakfast dish. I did feel like it lacked a bit of flavor. The only flavorful part were the pieces of sausage in it. However, I did order a side of the lemon curd blueberry pancakes. Those were deliciously, fluffy, and light and just a perfect amount of sweet. Overall, I would go back just because of the feel of the restaurant itself. Came here for Sunday brunch and had a lovely meal in the patio area facing out onto Adams Avenue, perfect for a lazy morning of people watching. Felt very Parisian in that way. The waiter was great and made sure we had refills of coffee and water, was good about checking in on us. We had: 1. The Eggs a La Espana. Delicious chorizo sausage with scrambled egg, potatoes, and grilled toast. 2. Shared berry ricotta pancakes. See pix. Satisfied our sweet tooth! 3. It's been a while since we've been here and it's still just as wonderful as the last time! The mimosas are tasty and fresh. We had the blackberry cream, the strawberry mint, and the mango mint. The mango was our personal favorite. The chilaquiles were phenomenal! It's really hard for places to not have soggy chips. These were crispy and the spicy green sauce was over the top. The eggs a la France were a spin off of a croque madame and the sauce on it was so perfectly unique. Everything was so good that after we were done we decided to get an additional side of biscuits and gravy. Again, the sauce was not an original biscuits and gravy you'd expect but instead far more unique and savory. The biscuit was made in house and was nice and fluffy. All in all this place is still an absolute staple and one everyone should go to. The fact that they switch up their menus constantly and yet don't lose their amazing flavors or pairings in each dish is such a feat. Service fast as always and such a chill hole in the wall atmosphere to this day. Will be returning, of course! read more

We celebrated my 80th birthday tonight dining at Hannah's Gourmet pop up night in France. The food was magnificent. I especially enjoyed the beef bourgignon and the arugula salad. Everything was fresh. The flourless chocolate cake with raspberries was scrumptious. There is limited seating by reservation only and I felt so lucky to be there. In mid-July, Hanna's Gourmet decided to reopen with limited online-only ordering. The minimum order was $70 so a few friends and I each got some items to exceed this threshold. The cut-off was Thursday with pick up between 2 and 6 pm on Sunday. Pre-packaged meal kits and a la carte items were available for purchase. From the list of entrees, the Turkish Eggplant Stuffed with Scented Lamb & Rice ($15) caught my eye. The item was served on a bed of cinnamon scented tomato sauce. It definitely had a Middle Eastern flair with the combination of flavors. I paired this with a sweet treat in the form of their Famous Carrot Cake ($7). A large three-layer cake slice was dressed with a candied kumquat sauce. This was very unique as I never would have thought about using a Southeast Asian fruit as a dessert topping like this. If things get closer back to normal in the future, the once a month family-style dinner featuring different countries is on my to-do list. The fact that this North Park kitchen is so talented and versatile to produce cuisine from multiple cultures is admirable. read more

I really like Hanna's. I was there several times before the pandemic and always enjoyed my meal. They are currently only serving on Sundays for brunch. We went last week and had the best chilaquiles I have ever eaten. Everything was fresh and flavorful. This is a small women owned business. Hanna's Gourmet is a quirky little restaurant located in an Adams Avenue storefront. The décor is reminiscent of a coffee house, which is somewhat elevated in tone by the presence of three twinkling crystal chandeliers hanging from the exposed-pipe ceiling. I like the old marble-topped bistro style tables and the higgly-piggly mismatched feel to the dining room. The menu places an emphasis on an international array of dishes, skipping across the globe in search of its inspiration and recipes. Perhaps Hanna's Gourmet offers more home style cooking than restaurant cooking, which can actually be a good thing. Just like with Mama at home, things are not always perfect. The Tortellini with caramelized apples arrives swimming in too much sauce, but it is delicious nonetheless, so you eat it all with gusto, and just zoop up the sauce with the homemade focaccia bread [on request only]. Breakfast is back! So delicious! I wasn't sure what to expect, having only purchased delicious Italian take-home meals during lockdown and family-style dinners before that. I am super excited to support Hanna again with her reopening to the public! The interior is as cute as ever with marble tables and a crystal chandelier. Our servers were fast and friendly. Today's special- eggs benedict with Peruvian chicken knocked it out of the park! I've been here twice now once for breakfast and once this past weekend for lunch and both times did not disappoint! I think what really sets them apart is all their employees are super friendly right when you enter. They fit in with the homey, normal heights community. We've tried their omelette, French toast, and hamburger. Their house coffee is just okay - kind of on the burnt side --but it's endless refills. I got their iced tea which was a mix of earl grey and something fruity and it was pretty basic. Most people get their cocktails such as mimosas. They have monthly community dinner events which features a different theme based on a country I.e this upcoming one is themed Brazil for about $50 a person. I like the concept of this place. It's a twist on traditional brunch and eggs Benedict which could get boring. There's a list of egg dishes you can choose from with flavors inspired by different cuisines around the world such as Africa, Spain, France, etc. They also have pancake options to choose from. We tried two different egg dishes and ordered a side of biscuit & gravy and both of us enjoyed the biscuits more than our main dishes. I didn't think any of the foods were special. The pita bread was mediocre, the soup was mediocre, the yogurt dip I had was mediocre...I guess the eggs were cooked well. The service was also a bit slow even though it wasn't busy; however, our server was friendly and accommodated all our needs and checked up on us several times. I did visit here once before just for some afternoon tea and pastries. I gotta say, their carrot cake is delicious. They also have a great selection of teas that taste exotic and fragrant. I think their forte is definitely the sweets, so if I ever come back I would come for some cake & tea but I'd skip their brunch. read more

Came across this place when I was in the neighborhood and looking for a place to grab brunch. Hanna's Gourmet felt so homey and comfortable. The servers were super friendly and really wakes us through the menu and gave us some great recommendations. It's taken quite awhile to get out and try this place. When I saw Isabella B's review for the brunch I knew I had to try the marrakech eggs even though I'm not even a fan of lamb. It was the perfect dish to get in the holiday mood with the warm cinnamon and the hearty red sauce. The lamb wasn't gamey and the eggs on this dish were poached perfectly. The chilaquiles in green sauce were also tasty and each chip was sauced but still crispy. The poached eggs on this dish were a little too done, but for being a non mexican eatery I was impressed by the authenticity. The piece de resistance of the meal had to be the carrot cake. I was only talked into this dessert because there are no raisins in it....also it was recently featured in the San Diego Food and Wine magazine. In fact, we were told that they used to sell 4 carrot cakes a week but after the article came out their orders more than doubled. You can get an entire cake for $50 and by the slice you pay $7 which wasn't bad at all considering how large a slice it was. Our service was excellent and I'll definitely be returning to try one of their country focused dinners where everything is done family style. About a week ago... Me: Is Hanna's back open yet? Husband: Their website says they're not. Me: Did you refresh? How about now? Hanna's is reopen for business during COVID! However, they are only doing made to order pre-packaged dinners. You select what you want on their site ($70 minimum) by Thursday at the latest and then pick up on Sunday between 2-6 pm. If you're a regular, you'll notice some favorites from their new menu, such as the proscuitto and apple tortellini (my fave), lasagna, Moroccan chicken, and flourless chocolate cake. There are also stews, sauces, and sides if you don't want to order entrees. The menu does change, and there are diverse options including vegetarian options. The dinners are packaged nicely in eco-friendly containers with clear labels. If you're not going home right away, I'd suggest you bring a cooler with some ice packs. The dinners are cold so that you can reheat them when you're ready to eat. As for portion size, you get the same portions! Instead of having a 4 hour pickup window on Sunday from 2-6 pm, I wish I could pick up on either Saturday from 4-6 pm or Sunday from 4-6 pm. I have missed Hanna's cooking, so it's been the highlight of my week that I get to eat her food all during the week now! Woo hoo! Please consider supporting this small business! read more

Returned for their brunch! In a party of 8, they still did not disappoint. It's been so long since I've been here for brunch. Their lamb burger with freshly made sweet patato fries is a must try! I liked this little restaurant it's relatively nice on the inside, good wait staff & good food. I tried multiple entrees and some beverages. I thought the eggs Ella France was a good dish almost like a eggs Benedict with a flavorful sauce. They also offer a pastrami Benedict that I would be interested in ordering. My date ordered their turkey and pear sandwich which we both thought was ok. In addition I ordered the meat lasagna which was really good. This place is sort of unique, kinda French & Italian feel to place. All in all I would be interested in coming back and trying a few more things on the menu, like the stuft chicken amongst others. This place is super cute and reminds me of dining in Europe if you eat outside in the side patio or in the front. Like all restaurants in this area, you'll have to find street parking. We called ahead on a Sunday to inquire about wait time which was less than 15 minutes. However, when we got there, we were seated immediately. The menu is unique as it focuses on dishes from around the world. For example, International Burger section had selections from Thai and India. The breakfast egg section, titled Taste The World offered egg dishes from Africa, Spain, France, Morocco, Mexico, and U.S. I ordered fresh squeezed orange juice and Eggs a la Espana. The egg are on a bed of sliced potatoes with chorizo sausage toppings and a side of thin white toast. I like how they kept this dish authentic with Spanish chorizo and Romesco sauce. The egg was cooked over medium and had a thin fluff layer resembling the thin layer on a pizza. When you lift the edges, the potatoes are underneath like a pot pie. My first bite reminded me of pizza and it gets better with every bite. Keep in the mind the Romesco sauce has hazelnut in case you're allergic to nuts. There are full length mirrors on the walls and each mirror displays a country with a prix fix menu offering on a certain day of the week for a set price. Coming up this month is a prix fix menu for New Orleans. If you haven't been physically around the world, I would recommend coming here to satisfy your temporary cuisine curiosity for that particular country. read more
