When we first moved back to Issaquah, we came here for brunch every weekend for about a 4 week stretch, mainly because we could get a table and the place has decent food. The second to last time we were here, our waitress was obviously intoxicated well past something you can attempt to hide. We were informed our appetizer choice was not available so we made a second choice, yet they both appeared on the bill(I discovered the next day). When my out-of-town guest asked about getting some bread at the start with some oil and vinegar she got some bread with some attitude and never saw the oil and vinegar. The drinks arrived separately even though they all came from the bar. The entrees did arrive together in a reasonable amount of time and they were at the right temperature. When you drop $250 for three people with $40 dollar entrees and $13 glasses of wine you rightfully expect to get service with better attention to detail. That was lacking. Did not meet the hype.. FIG Burger was juicy, good, but not great and little soggy (may be it's the potato bun). The garlic fries was really good, but very less, I did like the fried garlic pods which was a little too many. The crab cake Benedict (My wife replaced poached egg with scrambled eggs) , it was decent. She said it was soaked with sauce, the sauce was good , but a little too much. Located in the Gilman Village, you'd think the Flat Iron Grill would meet the standard neighboring eateries have provided. Not only did they fail to meet the bar, but they fell completely flat on their face. My family and I had reservations at 6:30 pm on Fathers Day. You'd think it'd be packed, but there were many open seats both inside and on the patio. The waiter was so-so. Friendly, but clearly lacked any attention to detail. We ordered: Appetizer: -Camerones de Pico Main Course: -Center Cut New York (Medium) -Filet (Medium) -Flat Iron Steak (Medium) The appetizer came quickly (tasted like pre-heated Costco curry and shrimps). The main courses are another story. 1 hour and 35 minutes later, we receive our food. Again, it's important to note that there weren't many people in the establishment. The wait wasn't even the worst part. As I cut into the Flat Iron Steak, I can feel the absolutely raw meat tearing from my knife. A pool of blood spilled over the polenta. Absolutely disgusting. I kept trying to wave down the waiter, but he seemed more occupied washing the front door glass than serving his clients. I stood up and presented them with my plate. I touched the cut meat to show an obnoxious amount of blood oozing from the dish. The waiter looked like a deer caught in headlights and offered to re-fire the meal. I declined. The manager comped our entire meal (which was barely touched) and gave an apology to save face. An absolute joke of a restaurant and waste of a Father's day dinner. Those chefs should be ashamed of themselves and should reconsider their occupation. Overall, I look forward to the day I can return to the space in which the Flat Iron Grill occupies. I wonder - did half the staff call out sick? Was everyone new? What could be the reason for the terrible service we had last night? Arrived on time, but not seated until 6:40 for our 6:30 reservation. Then 20 minutes to order even a drink. We were half way through our salads when the drinks arrived. After we finished the salads, the bread and butter was provided. We ordered our steaks "pink but not red" and the waitress suggested "medium". When the steaks finally came, they were medium rare to rare. Two of us just soldiered on, but one of us asked for it to be cooked more. It came back to the table cooked as ordered - as the rest of us were finishing our entrees. When they cleared our salads with forks, they didn't bring new forks - which we didn't realize until the entrees came and we had to chase someone down to bring us forks. We asked for pepper for the salads, and it took 10 minutes for it to come. Two of the drinks we ordered were unavailable (though on the menu). All of this was a shame, because the beet salad was delicious, and the steaks, besides being underdone, were good. The sides were good as well - particularly the truffle cauliflower. This was our first time visiting and we came for dinner with the fam. First off, it's a little difficult to find the place as is slightly tucked back behind the street frontage but otherwise we were able to find it fine. It was mid week so it was very slow, with only about 4-5 tables occupied (including us). Unfortunately it seems there was only one waitress and she was busy. Sadly the other staff seemed bored and I noticed that they looked at the bar TV (baseball game) several times or checking there watch. I commend the waitress's efforts but it didn't look like a restaurant team effort. Regarding the meal, we had the steaks, I went for the "flat iron" expecting amazingness since it's the restaurant name but it was just okay/good. My wife had the filet which was better but that's comparing apples to oranges so I won't digress. All I can say is the steaks are good but maybe not as good as what you would expect for the prices charged. We ordered the asparagus side, very thin and bland, no seasoning at all. Mash potato and polenta were both good. We also ordered the empanada appetizer which was amazing, probably the best thing we had that night. Based on the restaurant website's description, I was expecting much better...slightly leaning toward finer dining but got more like a neighborhood applebees food selection in a more contemporary interior design. The steaks we ordered (all medium rare) were all cooked differently and I sent mine back to be redone. The replacement was rare (at best) and I had them comp it. They also never came by to check to see how the replacement was until 15 minutes after they dropped it off. Poor form for a customer who just returned their food for it being cooked wrong. They again were kind and offered free deserts which were decent. We had absolutely terrible service. The gentleman that waited on us didn't come to our table until 15 minutes after we were seated. Every time he came to the table he would go away for 15-20 minutes and not check back on with us. We enjoyed the meat and cheese appetizer, filet mignon, New York steak, and prawns pasta entrees, summer squash side, and Olympic Mountain ice cream and sorbet for dessert. We also had two different cocktails and a glass of wine. Each food and drink item was superb. The server was professional, hospitable, and knowledgeable. This helped a person with food allergies have confidence in her order. It means a lot that we were able to hear each other in our table conversation! First off. I cook for a living so I may be tough on them. I've been weary of ever posting reviews for how tough I am to please when it comes to food. But for god sakes man! After ordering it for the 3rd time this year you really would hope a place like this that charges as much as they do for a burger could get it right. First time I ordered the damn near 20 dollar burger it was medium well. C'mon man. when your getting beef as good as you guys claim I would like my meat mid rare please. That's what (I) as the customer ordered. Sooo... no big. Maybe it was an inexperienced grill cook. Then I try again a couple months later. Mid rare, nope! it well done! Well Done! Are your cooks high!? Being in the industry I just shake it off and eat my overdone burger until I can handle it and throw the rest out. A 20 dollar burger mind you. Here we are a month later and call in 2 more FIG burgers. Both MID RARE. I go pick them up as I'm just around the corner. One for me and one for my Cook 1. Keep in mind I just paid 35 dollars for these and that's with 10% industry discount. I even tipped 5 dollars for a to go order. That's just how you roll if your in this industry. or at least how you SHOULD. Get the burgers out of the box within minutes. My cook 1's burger is well, well, well done and my is cold in the center. Not mid rare boys. i temped it and i was 60 degrees internal. Wow! Your chef should be ashamed that HE and his cooks can't temp meat! The owner is a great guy that knows better! This place is darn fantastic. I have been here at least a half dozen times and the chefs are consistent, the staff is friendly and the wine selection is outstanding. The establishment is nestled among a small walkable outdoor upscale shops. Each shop is a small mom and pop store, making the area and the items very unique. Five stars! Let's be honest. I expected a much worse showing. The couple babysitting my Mongolian Horde of kids told us their friends had a terrible experience the night before. Walking in on a Monday night, we were told there was a 35 minute wait. Really? Did Issaquah become a party destination all of a sudden? So, we sat in the bar, instead. Generally, I don't sit at a table in a bar with cow-print pillows and expect that I'm going to have a great time. But, it was that or get back in the car and head to Jak's and wait in a line there, instead. It's great to be wrong. We had a FANTASTIC time. The bartender was a guy named Kurt. Kurt looked like he was halfway to blowing out a set of sleeves on his arms (tattoos) and was sporting three or four ear piercings. Keep in mind, I live on the Plateau, drive a Sienna mini-van and have four kids. At first glance, the only thing more depressing than cow print pillows in the bar was realizing I was going to spend my only date night in 3 months with Kurt. See: It's great to be wrong. Kurt was epic. Having waited tables myself for seven years, it's rare to see that waiter than knows when to chat you up vs. when to just be quiet and go away. Great place in the 'Quah for a more upscale, steak and potatoes dining experience. My boyfriend bought a Living Social deal when we were moving to Issaquah. It was about to expire, so we made reservations for a Friday night. Neither of us tried any wine, but they do have an extensive wine menu. Naturally, I ordered the most expensive menu item. I got the Tenderloin which came with truffle mashed potatoes, arugula, and a boubon veal au jus. It was super tasty. Considering my last steak was at John Howie, I didn't have very high expectations, but they really do a good job with the meat here, and it's super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes and sauce were really good too. My boyfriend got the Special of the day, which was hanger steak with prawns. He loved it! He said the hanger steak was cooked perfectly, and the prawns were HUGE. All in all, we would definitely be back! My only gripe would be the service. We were given waters as soon as we sat down by a Busser, but it was 15+ minutes before we saw our server, and it wasn't even that busy. For our 14monthaversary we had dinner at the Flat Iron Grill. My boyfriend had me thinking we were going to be using our Heavy Group gift card but I messaged him relatively last minute pleading to feed me steak. Turns out, that had been the intention all along and he had made reservations days in advance. As always, five stars to my lovely boyfriend. For date nights I try to only skim Yelp reviews when I'm at the restaurant -- I want to generate my own opinion on the food. We each started out with a Mai Tai because it sounded reminscient of the Trader Vic's Mai Tai -- it was close but not as sweet as I like it; it definitely was strong though, so we were off to a very pleasant start. Our server was incredibly on top of things and didn't look at me like I was crazy when I nearly begged for more bread and butter -- it was so good, and I was so hungry [I had been starving myself in preparation for a special dinner] -- so it was great that our clams and chorizo came out really quickly to prevent us from filling up on bread. I don't call myself a fan of clams and I love chorizo but it usually makes my tummy hurt, but based on my quick glance at the Yelp app reviews, I agreed to my boyfriend's suggestion on splitting that as an appetizer. Holy wow, that stuff was amazing! And we totally used bread to sop up the juicy salty goodness in the bottom of the bowl. As was mentioned in other reviews, all the clams came open and easy to remove from their shells, yay! For our entree we split the Flat Iron Platter for two which came with more of the fantastic housemade chorizo [spoilers: my stomach was fine after eating this chorizo!], chicken, steak and prawns -- my boyfriend (who is Mexican) says FIG has the best chorizo he's ever eaten, the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and everything was flavorful and fresh tasting. For our sides we chose the garlic mashed potatoes and the goat cheese risotto. The risotto was AMAZING, the mashed potatoes were good but we wished we had tried a different side. My boyfriend doesn't actually like risotto but he was definitely pleased with the flavor and texture of this risotto. Along with my meal I had the royal blush cocktail which was very tasty and definitely kept my blood alcohol content at an unsafe-to-drive level. Which is fine, because I don't drive, hooray for always getting to be the lush! For dessert we had the apple fritter bread pudding. It was heavenly although it was chilly on the top and warm on the bottom [which kind of confused me] -- I really wish they had presented the option of a big ol' scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, as if I needed a reason to consume more calories. read more
