Menu seems pretty cool and diverse - the restaurant features some South American style food, so if you don't like your steak sour, don't order the classic flat iron. Started off good, their beef tartare is really good, lots of tartare, it's about 14 bucks but they need to give more crostini for how much tartare they're giving. Chefs got my family's flat irons right, but my NY Style steak with garlic mashed potatoes was a medium-(mostly)well done (I ordered medium rare)and extremely tough. Half of it was inedible... luckily my server was amazing and noticed this and took it off the bill. Probably my new regular steakhouse. Even given the distance, the prices here make it a worthy choice. First of all, it's just casual enough, just formal enough. Bistro tables, bistro seating, but done in a sturdy way that gives you the sense that they're here for the long haul. No wobbles. Stuffed leather pillows on stuffed leather benches, dark stained wood, welcoming art. Well, welcoming if you like longhorn skulls and Ansel Adams-y photos. I felt welcomed. The staff is very friendly, even chatty if you're amenable. They wear their own clothes but they're nicely turned out. They leave you alone a little, they dote a little. It all seems deliberate enough. The beer program is solid, and they know how to sell it. Same goes for the wines. The spirits are well chosen and the cocktails are well made, judging by my buddy E's responses to his martini. Not too easily wowed, usually, he seemed impressed with what was in the glass. But the star of the show at any steakhouse is the proteins, of course. The food here is pretty fantastic. We had clams with chorizo to start. They bring out awesome Macrina bread, which they take care to let you know is Macrina bread. They then grill points of that bread to serve with the clams. Every clam was open. Not a matter of great distinction, necessarily, that assurance that all the bivalves are edible, but too few places take that care. Flat Iron made sure the whole bowl was in good shape. The broth was fantastic and the chorizo seemed to be added late, offering a really heightened spicy note up front in the broth without getting in the way of the nectar. The steaks were spectacular. Cooked perfectly to order the first time. Great cuts--every bit of every bite was completely tender and edible. I had the Waco Sirloin, a special. Just turning tan at the edges, red and pink throughout otherwise. Perfect rare. E had the regular tenderloin, which also came out to the same exacting standards, but also boasted a bearnaise made with brandy and foie gras. Very much a health and fitness tool, this tenderloin. Tenderloin came with mashed potatoes and spinach, the sirloin with asparagus and fingerlings. The desserts looked amazing, and all seemed to bear some stamp of originality from the kitchen. But by then we were stuffed. Two steaks, clams, martini, and a $14 bottle of Pliny the Elder--$105 after tax. Great, great price. Returning home from the long drive from Spokane after the annual Bloomsday race, my daughter and I decided to use my long-held Groupon and dine here for dinner. I had read so many great reviews of this place (I actually reviewed this place here on Yelp prior to purchasing my Groupon!), we decided to give it a go, despite our fatigue and casual attire. It was 4pm and the restaurant was just opening for dinner. We had our pick of tables, as the place was empty. (One other couple came in in approximately 15-20 minutes. When we were leaving an hour or so later, there were a few couples and parties in line to be seated). It was a hot and sunny afternoon and the place was toasty (no AC), and the sunlight was blinding, but I revel in the heat and sun so I loved it. My daughter was a tad uncomfortable, though. (You can't please everyone!). The food here was wonderful! We shared the Clams and Chorizo and they lived up to the hype. I had the Baby Spinach Salad which was wonderful and I would order it again in a heartbeat. My daughter had the King Salmon which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. She then topped off the meal with some Olympic Mountain Ice Cream (I forget which flavor. It was a unique flavor), and she was in heaven. Perfect meal, from beginning to end. I had no wine with dinner but I noted that they had an extensive wine list. Our server was very professional and competent but on the aloof side; we didn't get the "warm fuzzies" from her, and she didn't break a smile the whole time we were there. But she was attentive and our orders were perfect. A guy came by regularly to fill our water glasses. Did I mention the food was wonderful? And we didn't even try their famous steaks! Pretty mediocre experience, primarily due to food. Came here on a pretty busy Friday evening; the restaurant was fairly loud, but as we had reservations, we were seated quickly and efficiently, and the servers were decently attentive given how packed the place was, so no complaints there. But the food itself was pretty underwhelming. To comment on some of the stuff my family ordered: - Paella: I had the paella, which was flavored decently with spices, but definitely subpar in the ingredients used considering the price. The clams were VERY sandy. I did not eat a single clam that didn't also come with the crunch of sand, which was pretty unfortunate. The shrimp also seemed small and likely of the frozen variety. - Salmon: My mother had the salmon. The quality of the fish was fine, but overall the dish was fairly bland, and the "risotto" (quotes theirs from the menu) was incredibly buttery/oily to the point where she could not eat any of it. - Steak: My husband ordered the eye of rib cooked medium rare, but when it came out, it was definitely at least medium. Probably worse still, he had some digestive troubles throughout the evening thereafter (he can typically digest just about anything, so this was a little unusual). - Sides: Generally sparse given the price; they're listed as sides to share but I think generally the quantity is probably best suited for two at most. Fries were unfortunately a bit overcooked. - Dessert: Shared the bread pudding with my husband, and it was kind of odd in texture, somewhat rubbery. Taste was fine, though. Given the pictures I'm seeing from other Yelpers, this restaurant looks like it might have better lunch and/or brunch options. But as for dinner, I found it pretty underwhelming and not worth the price. read more

Sunday evening, four hungry people for Hawaii looking for a place to eat that served good food, a decent cocktail and beer list, plus a nice selection of whisky. Seemed like The Flat Iron Grill may fit the bill, lucky for us they could take us in at the last minute. Tucked away in a cool shopping village with indoor and outdoor deck seating, we opted to sit outside since the evening was so nice. Food: Great wine, beer and cocktail list..but hold on, they have a Whisky Library. Seriously, page upon page of fine whisky and whiskey from the US, Canada, Japan, Ireland and off course the Single and Blended Malts from Scotland! If I lived here I could see myself spending a couple years trying to get through the entire list. I was a little disappointed though, saw they had Macallan 18 for $22...I've never tried it, always wanted to so placed my order. Sadly our wonderful server informed that she found out they were out of the Mac 18. I didn't feel too bad as I quickly replaced it with a whisky flight made up of an Aberlour 16 scotch, Redbreast Irish Whisky, and a Yamazaki 12 from Japan for $29. Nice pours on all three, great to contrast the different styles from each region. I won't go in to much detail about the food except to say it was all delicious, my lamb ribs were very good. Everyone in our party of four enjoyed their meal and I don't think you can go wrong no matter what you order. Service: Solid service, attentive, friendly, and professional. Food came out quick enough although I may have been distracted by my whisky flight to notice the time. Did I mention they have a whisky library..I can still see the row upon row of bottles that are stored above the bar! Atmosphere: We really enjoyed sitting on the back deck, it was very relaxing after a long day and we could sit back and just chill. It was a pleasant early evening with perfect dusk weather that enhanced our drinks and conversation! Value: A little pricier from other restaurants in the area but the food was spot on. Quality ingredients, great menu, and did I mention the whisky library? My bill probably would have been much cheaper if I didn't so love a good (or great) dram. Overall: Love this place, all future whisky lists will be judged against Flat Iron Grill. Oh..and a bonus, if you are into Pokemon Go, sit out on the deck as you'll be in reach of two Pokemon stops without ever having to stand up! read more

My fiance has always wanted to try this place, so when he saw there was a Living Social deal for it, he quickly purchased it. We went on a Friday night at around 6 30 without reservations. It was a 30 minute wait. It's located in Gilman Village, which is a boardwalk of sorts that have random little shops. At that time, unfortunately, pretty much all but one store was closed. Thankfully the one that was open was the toy store, so we had some fun browsing through there. Anyway, back on subject. The front of the building has no sign, that I could really see, so it's a little confusing where you are supposed to go into if you are not familiar with the restaurant. Walking in, immediately, I loved the ambiance. It was dark and romantic, with a gorgeous candled 'wall' and a very cool looking backdrop in the far, back wall. At the same time, there were also families there and there was a slight din of voices throughout. I don't mind that at all, because then I feel like you can talk without having your neighbors eavesdrop on your conversation and vice versa. The hostess was extremely nice and so was our wait staff, although the one downside is that it took a little too long for our food to come. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer. The poutine was basic, just as traditional poutine is. I think it would have been nice if they tried to make it a little different somehow. The gravy had good flavor, but there just wasn't enough of it, so it felt like I was just eating fries most times. I probably won't order this one again. For my entree, I had the half grilled chicken, which came with mashed potatoes and a few pieces of broccoli. The gravy/sauce on it was really good and it went so well with the mashed potatoes. The chicken was nice and moist, even the breast, which I normally don't like. The skin was a tad salty eaten alone, but with the meat, it was very good. I would recommend this dish for those who want something different than steak. My fiance ordered the flat iron steak. The steak came with goat cheese polenta, all covered with a chimchurri sauce. The polenta was so good, it reminded me of cheesy grits! It might just be a preference thing, but I did not like the chimchurri sauce b/c it tasted a little too sour for me. My fiance told me that's just what chimchurri sauce is supposed to taste like. My preference would have been less sauce. The steak was pretty good- he ordered it medium rare and I liked it. For dessert we ordered the Peach And Raspberry Crisp. It was so good! The layer of crunch was perfect. It was topped with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream which was so delicious by itself, but paired with the dessert, was amazing. The peach/raspberry part of it was a little tart, which I love! I usually shy away from cobbler type desserts b/c they are usually WAY too sweet for me, but the raspberry was great. And the combination of the hot/cold, soft/crunchy, a slight tart/sweetness- it completely hit the spot. I would say this restaurant is pretty good value. Nothing was outrageously priced for a steak house and there are definitely other items on the entree list that I would like to go back for. We enjoyed it so much that we actually bought another Groupon for this place and can't wait 'til the next time we have a little dinner date! read more

I selected FIG based on the Yelp reviews which are normally a great guide; my experience was different than the high ratings. It is vey loud - hard to hear conversation at our own table. Note, we were in the front room - likely used for private dining and not the main section of the restaurant. The kitchen service is very slow - be prepared to spend time there. Server team didn't know which plate went to which customer. Food quality is fair - bad bread (dry flavorless), rib end steak was prepared well but was a tough cut, brined pork chop was very salty (brined too long, not long enough?) cauliflower pasta was bland but otherwise fine. Dessert was a let down: peanut butter cookie left a greasy aftertaste, bread pudding was dry and served cold - a slab of bread essentially. The setting is cute and nestled among many shops. All in it was fair but I feel there are better options. read more

I brought my family here to test out the waters, so to speak, during lunch. Physical location: Ceiling is quite high, which provided an airy feel. Floor is all wood so it has a warm feel to it but if dinners are wearing hard formal leather shoes, I can foresee the noise level going up when guests walk in and out. The seats are padded and comfortable. The lunch crowd consisted of some office workers and some well-to-do housewives with friends. There were no kids there except our family. Service: Waitress provided a decent warm service. Felt comfortable enough to make eye-contact and explained about the soup of the day. Food quality: We ordered Steak Sandwich, soup, Steak Salad, BBQ Brisket, lemonade, ice-tea and hot-tea. I must say that the meat was positively well above average and the seasonings were just right. The roll which came it was also nicely baked. The meat tasted more like it was a cut from the tenderloin. The soup had a delicate taste and a hint of truffles and beautifully presented. Based on our lunch experience, most of the presentation was a class above other steak houses around here. All of our sandwiches were above $11 but it was worth the quality. My husband and I have lived in Issaquah Highlands for 8 years and this was the first time we decided to eat at Flat Iron Grill. We came here on a Thursday night and was greeted by a friendly hostess who sat us near the bar but on a raised table. The place was pretty busy and HH had just ended. It did take a little while to be greeted by our server but she did tell us about their specials for the day. For drinks I ordered the Katy May ($10) and my husband ordered the Anejo Margarita ($11). Taste wise they were alright. Have had better with more liquor in them. For our main entrees, I ordered the Steak Filet ($39) and my husband ordered the New York steak ($34). Both were juicy and tender, cooked nicely with great flavor. For dessert we ordered the Cheesecake Flan as recommended by our waitress who said it was on the menu for a limited time ($8). Overall, the service was a tad slow (3 stars), the steaks were great (5 stars), the drinks were alright (3 stars), dessert was a major disappointment for the price (1 star), the place was clean and had good energy for groups but if you are looking for a romantic place for 2, it was too noisy (3 stars). Would we try this place again? Maybe but honestly I think we might rather go to Jak's down the street and get more food. read more

Another solid meal at the flat iron! I love brunch at Jaks but my husband does not wait for food so we decided to give the brunch a the flat iron a go (are you listening Jaks? Reservations are you friend!!). Service here is always slow. That's ok, take your time and enjoy the company you came with... just order early in your visit. The dining room was a little dark for breakfast... but it was also a grey day. They have a lovely patio and hopefully it will get nice enough to try it out sometime soon! The brunch menu is diverse and not your standard fare. It would be fun to come with a group and order several things to share. The food was great all around. I had the artichokes benny- eggs were poached to perfection with huge, gorgeous arti hearts. YUM! The potatoes could have used a little more flavor... or crunch... or something. The lack of bread with this dish was a bit of an issue for me. Next time I'll order a side of toast. Also, the eggs weren't properly drained which left a watery mess in the bottom of my dish. I ate the whole thing and enjoyed it immensely. I should have stopped at 1/2 but it was just too good! Husband ordered the biscuits and gravy and enjoyed them but wanted for a little more gravy. Daughter got the stuffed french toast. It was huge, and SO tasty. She ate one slice and took the rest home for later. I don't care for french toast normally but even I was won over. read more

I hadn't been back since they changed their policy on Happy Hour on the deck. But Biscuits and Gravy at Brunch did the trick. And it was a trick. Two large biscuits, scorched on the bottom and with that bitter taste that biscuits sometimes have. Usually butter, jam, gravy overcome any bitterness. But not here. What was advertised as chorizo sausage gravy amounts to no more than two tablespoons of a red runny liquid with maybe a couple of granules of chorizo. I say that to be fail although I didn't taste or chew anything remotely resembling sausage. When my plate was cleared it contained 1 1/2 biscuits and all the potatoes. The two egg yolks and miniscule amount of "gravy" were the right proportions for maybe a bit less than half a biscuit. Seriously, it was an awful meal. read more

Excellent service, great food and nice ambience. Expensive but has specials often in local websites or magazines. Large wine selection. We ordered the cod fish and clam tomato base soup (delicious!), the steak sandwich with green salad (meat was moist, bread was fresh, vinaigrette on salad was yummy) and the chorizo pan Sandwich with charred peppers - flavorful but not spicy. Sage and garlic fried were excellent. The hot tea we ordered was served with extra hot water in a kettle which was a nice touch. The waitress looked a bit put off when I mentioned I had a Groupon. I don't know why as I always tip on the original amount and unless the service is poor I tend to tip well. Why do restaurants run specials if the servers are going to be so pissy about it? Still she gave us decent service she just did not like talking about the Groupon. I'm sure some people must have left terrible tips so I decided that I wasn't going to be upset about her manner. We will be back as I enjoyed the food. The brunch and lunch prices are not too bad. The dinner prices make it more of a special occasion restaurant and I usually end up at Pogacha across the road, but brunch or lunch seems like a good idea. When we arrived we were immediately seated, but not in the dining room. she took us to this small room off to the right of the restaurant. The room sat about 20-25 people. YOU DO NOT WANT TO SIT IN THIS ROOM. When every table is full, you can not hear. Literally 7 times I said to my husband "what, or honey I cant hear you". I had to yell for him to hear me.....it wasn't pleasant. We started off with salads, I had the organic baby green salad and my husband had the bib salad. They were OK. There was alot of lettuce in my salad that I didn't' like. For entrees I had the steak with button mushrooms and a demi glaze. Steak was good, but sides were burned. The side of garlic mashed potatoes was probably the best part of the meal. My husband had the halibut, which wasn't great, but didn't suck, had a weird glaze to it. Our waiter in the beginning was great, very attentive, but when it came time for the check, we waited and waited and waited......:( I don't expect to come back here, so a word of caution to anyone who does...DO NOT SIT IN THE SMALL ROOM!!! I admit I was disappointed. We were in the neighborhood. Yelped several nearby places and selected this one. Based on the reviews sounded great. But our experience was just acceptable. We both got the Cuban sandwich. Very hearty. Fries were actually very good. But the French onion soup was definitely below average. Service was fine but more water would have been nice. Came here with my husband and parents and the meal was thoroughly enjoyable! My husband's lamb rack was amazing and I also was a huge fan of the NY steak my dad got. Unfortunately the paella I got fell flat because it was way too salty and seasoned poorly but the other dishes I got to mooch off of made up for it along with our delightful server. This is such a cute place. A little pricey to be a common dinner joint but definitely when you want quality or are celebrating something it's such a great option to one of the more chain restaurants like Ruth Chris or Morton's! read more

We planned to go to the Italian food place next door but it was closed for renovation. We looked up for reviews and tried flat iron grill and wawooo, we ended up for better. Celebrated my buddy's birthday, coming for lunch and got the dessert on the house. Excellent service, our host was informative, explained us for some items on the menu. I dine out daily, and this place had been on my radar for a while. When my girlfriend told me she wanted to take me there, I was excited. I decided to do what I always do, and that was to review the menu before going. When I visited the site, I had problems getting the page to load. I tried several browsers and for the most part, it appeared that the sate was having issues. Once I got the page to load correctly, I attempted to browse the menu. Unfortunately, it wouldn't load. At that point, I reached out to the restaurant to let them know, they gave me directions to download the menu, that still didn't work. Eventually, someone emailed me a portion of the menu. When my girlfriend set a date, we showed up for dinner. After being sat, we watched other than came in after us be served drinks and have meal orders taken. 25 minutes later I approached the host and asked for a manager. I was told there was no manager. After hearing my concern, he told me he would take care of it. We were told it was a mistake and everyone involved apologized, but elements of the explanation didn't add up. We were served water and bread, so it was obvious to someone we were there, but no one ever thought in 30 minutes to follow up with us despite serving people less than 3 feet away from us multiple times. They offered free appetizers and my girlfriend selected the cheese plate. It wasn't for me, Honestly, none the appetizers appealed to me. I ordered a burger and despite reviews it was horrible. The meat was dry, and the Pineapple Aoili was not only a poor choice, but tasted like poison. The fries tasted like the oil was either old or the potatoes were bad and for some reason, the entire bun was greasy. These guys blew this at every interaction. The Website failed, the service failed and the food failed. It was so terrible that they comped most of the meal. My girlfriend felt so bad as a former Wine Bar server that she left a $30 tip. I found it interesting that after a complete cluster funk that our server ended up with a tip more than double that he would have earned if the meal was good and the service flawless. I really hate leaving such a terrible review, but this place was garbage from being to end. It ruined my appetite and evening and I could never say anything positive about this place. Hopefully someone involved in management or ownership sees this and takes the time to ensure that this type of episode does not repeat. Seeing as this is one of the longest running Groupon Promotions, I can only assume that they are trying to either make a name, or keep the business in the black. The combination of having to eat an entire tables bill and still get the worst possible review should speak to the fact that more competent management, ownership and employees are needed. read more

I've had steak all over the world. This ranked as one of the top 3 NY Strips I've ever had. Infused with sage. The chicken was excellent. Ask for garlic sage fries instead of mashed potatoes. The Brussels sprouts/ ribs appetizers were the only "lowlights." Sprouts were kind of bitter. There's a place in Baltimore that does them fried with brown sugar candied that is awesome. These were uninspired and sad LOL. Ribs--I liked the idea but the execution left a little to be desired. Service was excellent. Downside. Back corner was a little warm. I was able to secure a same-day reservation here, which was good. At first I was a little disheartened because there seemed to be a musky smell at the entrance but once we got in it wasn't an issue at all and the ambiance was cute, I thought the venue itself could be a little warmer temperature wise but that could just be me. As far as food, and this is actually why I came here to write this review, I have never had a better chicken probably in my entire life. I got the organic half grilled chicken. It was cooked just right, stayed hot for a long time, the jus was so very tasty and the mashed potatoes were just right, as well. I normally don't eat chicken in restaurants since you rarely find organic chicken on the menu but I decided to go for it when I saw that it was organic and I'm so glad I did. Others in my party liked their food also. Overall it was a good experience and I will definitely go back and get more chicken. read more

I decided to check out this place since there was a GroupOn offer and it was relatively close by ~ perfect for those emergency dinners where there's nothing to eat in the house! It's a little hard to find since it's located in a small, but cute strip mall. It reminds me of back in the day (I assume since I wasn't even alive then), where people open up a small store front and live above their stores. The restaurant is very modern and nicely decorated. It wasn't too crowded at all when we arrived at 6pm on a weekday, although the hostess was on the phone when we got there and it took her a while to even acknowledge us - we got the Flat Iron Steak with goat cheese polenta and the Grilled Pork with apple chutney and mashed potatoes. Everything was good - the food quality was great, everything was tasty, although the food portions were a little small for the price. There was no bread to start which was unusual and when we left the restaurant, the hostess was not present to thank us. Coming into this place it's small and cute and I love the dim lighting however, Our waiter at first seemed pretty good, but after we ordered our drinks and food he was barely attentive, might I mention how they did not have the ingredients to the espresso martini listed on their menu. How does a full bar like theirs not keep up with their drinks. He offered me the chocolate martini instead, which I agreed to and it was pretty good only because it was strong, but after that we didn't see much of him, I had to call over a bus boy to ask for our waiter so that I could have another drink. After that, we didn't see him until the end of our meal, he didn't even ask how our food was . Let me just tell you, the price for that New York was not worth it, I wish I would have tried the filet instead. Although the new York had a nice flavor, the texture was very rough. At the end of our meal he asked if we wanted to have desert, by that time we were full and said no, he seemed upset and took off and then gave us the check and quickly left without a word. He then came back and finally thanked us for coming, of coarse us assuming he just said it for a tip. Such a great brunch experience for our moms milestone birthday! McKenzie was an amazing server and attended to the groups picky needs with ease. Everyone loved their food, mostly ordered eggs Benedict's which they have many different yummy types. The turkey, Brie apple sandwich was really good too. This place seemed over-rated to me. The menu sounded good and I was looking forward to trying it. We went the first week in March prior to the CoVid closure. We made reservations for a special 60th birthday dinner but got lost on the way. I called to say we were lost and still coming. We arrived five minutes after the reservation time and they had given away our table and we were only able to be seated in the back corner of the bar. Come on, really?? The February Irish Whiskey Tasting & Pairing Event was great fun. Wanting something different for family birthday party, the FlatIron Grill event was a hit. We tasted five Irish Whiskeys paired with small, real small, let's say tiny, tiny bites of food. But spread over three hours, even my 6'3'son said he was satisfied. Good (but not quite great) food, very pleasant atmosphere, solid service, strong drink selection...I'll continue to keep it on the rotation of Issaquah post-hike brunch spots, but I have to say my last experience wasn't perfect. "Medium" burger was deeply charred, maybe 2 minutes beyond well-done. Chilaquiles were fine, but I wouldn't have given them that name (repurposed bbq beef, herdez-quality green salsa, chips and sour cream does not equal chilaquiles).
