I really wanted to love this place because I have yet to find a great restaurant close by without having to go to Seattle. The patio was nice but fought of yellow jackets the entire time. The truffle cauliflower was missing the truffle and lacked flavor. My husbands steak was more on the side of well done than medium rare as ordered. He did say the flavor was good. It came with mushrooms in a gravy type sauce ( which was too heavy)and steak fries, and needed greens or veggies of some sort. My salad was flavorless and the grill watermelon in my salad was super mushy. The waitress was nice and the wine selection decent. ... not worth it for the price. read more

We have eaten at Flat Iron Grill many times over the years and have reviewed it previously elsewhere. Over time it has unfortunately gone from 4 to 3 to 2 stars in my estimation, as the food and service have become more and more inconsistent . The chicken and steak remain reliable while the clams, paella and particularly the fish have become substandard. However the biggest change involves the service and servers. The servers do a lot of up-selling with an aloof, indifferent attitude without actually engaging the patron. Recently this was followed by a 40+ minute wait for the entrees and uncomfortable commentary from the waiter on the pace at which we ate our meal. It took forever to get the meal and then it appeared we were being rushed by staff to turn the table on a week night (not Friday). The long time hostess and one lunch server remain welcoming and service oriented. We have generally considered the FIG a good value but in light of our last 3 experiences we will not return with the numerous other venues available. read more

I read a few reviews that seem poor but for us, our 5+ visits over the past year or two have been consistently good. Food is always well seasoned and well prepared. The service (from hostess to waiter) is good for the most part. Only on one occasion was the service slow and the food took longer to come out than within a reasonable time. The waiter offered dessert on the house as a result of the delay, which was much appreciated. Kids meal does seem a bit on the pricey side but it is usually tastier than you'd expect. Flat Iron Grill is a nice cozy restaurant tucked away in Gilman Village in Issaquah. It's a great place to have a relaxing dinner. The food is quite good. First off. I cook for a living so I may be tough on them. I've been weary of ever posting reviews for how tough I am to please when it comes to food. But for god sakes man! After ordering it for the 3rd time this year you really would hope a place like this that charges as much as they do for a burger could get it right. First time I ordered the damn near 20 dollar burger it was medium well. C'mon man. when your getting beef as good as you guys claim I would like my meat mid rare please. That's what (I) as the customer ordered. Sooo... no big. Maybe it was an inexperienced grill cook. Then I try again a couple months later. Mid rare, nope! it well done! Well Done! Are your cooks high!? Being in the industry I just shake it off and eat my overdone burger until I can handle it and throw the rest out. A 20 dollar burger mind you. Here we are a month later and call in 2 more FIG burgers. Both MID RARE. I go pick them up as I'm just around the corner. One for me and one for my Cook 1. Keep in mind I just paid 35 dollars for these and that's with 10% industry discount. I even tipped 5 dollars for a to go order. That's just how you roll if your in this industry. or at least how you SHOULD. Get the burgers out of the box within minutes. My cook 1's burger is well, well, well done and my is cold in the center. Not mid rare boys. i temped it and i was 60 degrees internal. Wow! Your chef should be ashamed that HE and his cooks can't temp meat! The owner is a great guy that knows better! I miss Cody, he made that restaurant. Wake up gentlemen, your better than that. We use the Yelp app to make 8:15 reservations. Upon arrival the hostess informed us that our table was still being used and as soon as that group was done we would be seated. After waiting 25 min and seeing another table for 6 opening up, I asked why we couldn't sit at that table. The hostess stated that room with that table is closed. We waited a total of 35 min for our reservation in a restaurant that had over 1/2 of their tables open. Poor planning and horrible critical thinking skills on their part. After being seated 35 min late we ordered. I ordered a rare filet. It came out with the rest of the order and was cooked medium. I asked the waitress for a rare steak. She then took the steak and said they would reorder. It seams my order went to the rear of the line, and I received my steak after the rest of our party was done eating. The food was good, but the experience was disappointing. With a little management, I think they could fix their issues. read more

Five stars! Let's be honest. I expected a much worse showing. The couple babysitting my Mongolian Horde of kids told us their friends had a terrible experience the night before. I looked up Yelp and saw 147 reviews with a 4 star average and said "f*ck it, their friends are probably wankers" and we rolled to Flat Iron. Walking in on a Monday night, we were told there was a 35 minute wait. Really? Did Issaquah become a party destination all of a sudden? So, we sat in the bar, instead. Generally, I don't sit at a table in a bar with cow-print pillows and expect that I'm going to have a great time. But, it was that or get back in the car and head to Jak's and wait in a line there, instead. It's great to be wrong. We had a FANTASTIC time. The bartender was a guy named Kurt. Kurt looked like he was halfway to blowing out a set of sleeves on his arms (tattoos) and was sporting three or four ear piercings. Keep in mind, I live on the Plateau, drive a Sienna mini-van and have four kids. At first glance, the only thing more depressing than cow print pillows in the bar was realizing I was going to spend my only date night in 3 months with Kurt. See: It's great to be wrong. Kurt was epic. Having waited tables myself for seven years, it's rare to see that waiter than knows when to chat you up vs. when to just be quiet and go away. We got the perfect balance of both AND good food/wine to boot. Highlights included - Biale Black Chicken Zin at $65/bottle. Win. Pork Belly and Jelly. Win. Flat Iron steak. Pretty good. Bourbon chaser wrapped things up. We'll be back. Several times. Of course, it'll be every 3-6 months, but we'll be back, damnit. read more

Great place in the 'Quah for a more upscale, steak and potatoes dining experience. My boyfriend bought a Living Social deal when we were moving to Issaquah. It was about to expire, so we made reservations for a Friday night. Neither of us tried any wine, but they do have an extensive wine menu. Naturally, I ordered the most expensive menu item. I got the Tenderloin which came with truffle mashed potatoes, arugula, and a boubon veal au jus. It was super tasty. Considering my last steak was at John Howie, I didn't have very high expectations, but they really do a good job with the meat here, and it's super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes and sauce were really good too. My boyfriend got the Special of the day, which was hanger steak with prawns. He loved it! He said the hanger steak was cooked perfectly, and the prawns were HUGE. All in all, we would definitely be back! My only gripe would be the service. We were given waters as soon as we sat down by a Busser, but it was 15+ minutes before we saw our server, and it wasn't even that busy. For our 14monthaversary we had dinner at the Flat Iron Grill. My boyfriend had me thinking we were going to be using our Heavy Group gift card but I messaged him relatively last minute pleading to feed me steak. Turns out, that had been the intention all along and he had made reservations days in advance. As always, five stars to my lovely boyfriend. For date nights I try to only skim Yelp reviews when I'm at the restaurant -- I want to generate my own opinion on the food. We each started out with a Mai Tai because it sounded reminscient of the Trader Vic's Mai Tai -- it was close but not as sweet as I like it; it definitely was strong though, so we were off to a very pleasant start. Our server was incredibly on top of things and didn't look at me like I was crazy when I nearly begged for more bread and butter -- it was so good, and I was so hungry [I had been starving myself in preparation for a special dinner] -- so it was great that our clams and chorizo came out really quickly to prevent us from filling up on bread. I don't call myself a fan of clams and I love chorizo but it usually makes my tummy hurt, but based on my quick glance at the Yelp app reviews, I agreed to my boyfriend's suggestion on splitting that as an appetizer. Holy wow, that stuff was amazing! And we totally used bread to sop up the juicy salty goodness in the bottom of the bowl. As was mentioned in other reviews, all the clams came open and easy to remove from their shells, yay! For our entree we split the Flat Iron Platter for two which came with more of the fantastic housemade chorizo [spoilers: my stomach was fine after eating this chorizo!], chicken, steak and prawns -- my boyfriend (who is Mexican) says FIG has the best chorizo he's ever eaten, the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and everything was flavorful and fresh tasting. For our sides we chose the garlic mashed potatoes and the goat cheese risotto. The risotto was AMAZING, the mashed potatoes were good but we wished we had tried a different side. My boyfriend doesn't actually like risotto but he was definitely pleased with the flavor and texture of this risotto. Along with my meal I had the royal blush cocktail which was very tasty and definitely kept my blood alcohol content at an unsafe-to-drive level. Which is fine, because I don't drive, hooray for always getting to be the lush! For dessert we had the apple fritter bread pudding. It was heavenly although it was chilly on the top and warm on the bottom [which kind of confused me] -- I really wish they had presented the option of a big ol' scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, as if I needed a reason to consume more calories. read more

The hours listed on the website did not match the hours posted when my husband and I visited - they close the restaurant in the middle of the day and only offer drinks and appetizers in their very small, cramped bar area during mid-afternoon. Wow wow wow wow. This place sooo did not disappoint. A good friend was in from out of town and we had heard great things about this spot from my coworkers. We decided to go for it. The restaurant was busy and we sat down for dinner in the bar. We split: The grill platter with: prawns, flat iron steak, chicken and chorizo poblano polenta with goat cheese grilled cauliflower with aged cheddar apple fritter bread pudding OMG. That's all I have to say. I am a fan of any comfort type food (mashed potatoes, mac and cheese...) and that polenta knocked my socks off. Service was great, food was outstanding. This is a review that I really hate to write, because while I love the food at Flat Iron Grill, the service is wobbly, at best. I've now been to the restaurant three times and each time I'd rate the food as a 5 and the service as a 2-3. On our last visit, we waited at our table for probably 10-15 minutes for our server to first come by. And we had pretty gross menus to review as well - wine and food stains on quality paper is not how a nice restaurant should market itself. I understand that restaurants get busy and servers get slammed, but not stopping by once to let us know he'd be with us soon and only apologizing for the delay when he brought out the final bill is not acceptable for a restaurant that operates at this price point. When he finally made it to our table we all knew what we wanted and ordered wine, appetizer and meals all at once - which I hate. Again, at this price point I want more of an experience and I don't want to feel rushed after sitting around twiddling my thumbs. Our wine comes out - and it's a very tasty bottle - but instead of pouring 4 smallish glasses as is the norm in restaurants, the whole bottle is emptied among our four glasses. So we now have four huge glasses of wine. Our appetizer - the FIGlets, quite yummy! - came out, and of course, we were still working on them when our entrees were delivered. Another annoyance to me. Plan it out better people! There should be space between when the appetizers are cleared and entrees are delivered. And more time, often leads to more wine orders, which is good for business. And the food, as always, was amazing. Which pains me because this could be such a wonderful restaurant experience right in Issaquah. I'm sure I'll be back because I love the food, but I'll be highly unlikely to bring others to this place as my recommendations are based on a complete experience and not just the food. If not for the poor service, the yelp review for Flat Iron Grill would be even higher than it already is. read more

My husband and I have now been here twice.. First time we had a really odd server who was just.. Awful. I didn't like my steak he recommended, and our asparagus wasn't brought out until we were done with our steaks. Poor service to say the least. Tonight we were there and no one came to our table for 15 mins. Got a New York, asked for medium rare. It was more of a medium even though we confirmed with the waitress their "done-ness". We had the queso fundido for an appetizer and there was literally enough for us each to have like two scoops of cheese. Poor portion size.. But there were plenty of house made chips. If you wanna spend $50 a person for better service and a more consistent steak, go to Jak's. We probably won't be back here. read more

This review is strictly on the service. The food was decent, not amazing but decent. We had the jambalaya and the 10oz center cut. My bf and I came here for dinner and right when we walked in service was bad. There were 2 employees at the front and they just looked at us. When one of the employees finally spoke up he just walked us to our table. Our server Patrick was even worse. He walked to our table and I greeted him first. He was one of the employees at the front who stared at us. We ordered our food and he checked up on us once. When asked if we wanted dessert, I replied "No, we're really full." (We had some Costco gelato while shopping earlier. Yummy!) Anyway, Patrick then repeated what I said, "You're too full." He then walked away in a huff as if I was lying about being full. When he dropped off our bill there was no "thank you", no "have a good night." We were the ones that said thank you. Needless to say we will not be coming back. read more

What they lacked in service they made up for in food. My review will strictly be about the service, since the food was really good, but i say if you're paying that much for food.. you're also paying for service. My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and decided to keep things simple and eat somewhere around the neighborhood. We looked on Yelp and found this place with high reviews and decided to make a reservation through Yelp and commented that we were celebrating our anniversary. When we entered the restaurant, the ambiance was very intimate and my husband and I were very pleased with our choice. The hostess sat us down and gave us our menus. That's kind of where the service stopped. The waitress that was serving us never smiled (until she gave us our check), never greeted us properly (made us feel very unwelcomed), never gave us any suggestions or recommendations for food, wine, or anything. She just looked at us and said.. "what would you like?".. took our order and left. She came by to fill our waters, but never asked us how our meals were, if everything was to our satisfaction, or if we were enjoying the night... Nothing. When the dessert menu was presented, we honestly wanted to order something, but didn't want to add more to the check, thus giving her more tip, so we closed out and got dessert some where else. When we were walking out, the hostess just stared at us as we left, never said have a nice night, never acknowledged our anniversary, nothing. As I mentioned in the beginning, this place isn't cheap, and if it were, i would probably would expect a "neglectful" type of service. I gave this 3 stars, ONLY because of the food. read more

A rant to service - I've been to Flat Iron Grill several times, and while the owner/chef(s) have been delightful, the waitstaff seem to have had zero fine dining training. Our waitress on one evening was downright surly. She seemed irritated that we were taking up her time. My observations of other waitstaff seem to indicate that the problem may lie in simple training or lack of experience in the industry. We go to dinner for the food, the experience, to feel pampered, to feel like you love us even when you're feet hurt and you have been in the weeds all night. Dazzle me and my tip will dazzle as well, I'll send friends, bring groups, have happy hour. A missed opportunity - The Flat Iron Grill has a beautiful and impressively vast selection of whiskey. With some effort, it could become a Seattle institution and destination for afficionados, both amateur and beyond. Sadly, when a patron at the table next to me asked why a certain whiskey was more expensive than another, the server said: "I really have no idea - it's better." Excellent meal. The location is a little hard to find but worth seeking out. I had the Flat Iron steak - 10 oz, cooked to perfection (medium rare), served with chimichurri and salsa that really brought out the flavor in the meat. The goat cheese polenta that came with it for superb. Just delicious, and actually a pretty good deal at $19. She had the black cod, which was also delicious with a sweet glaze, and came with some pretty tasty squash gnocchi. Really nice flavors. Dessert was the Fallen Chocolate Souffle which was a great combination of chocolate and dulce de leche. The service was great - our waiter was attentive but not overly so. Recommended! read more

One statement sums up my visit... I can't wait to go back. Issaquah for whatever reason is void of this type of restaurant. A steak and seafood type of restaurant with (as they put it) South American influences. You can find just about every type of ethnic food out there in our small little town but finding a good place for steak and seafood is a bit of a stretch. Admittedly, I am a meat and potatoes kind of guy if you couldn't already tell. Flat Iron Grill is located in Gilman Village which I can't say I spend a great deal of time at ordinarily but found it quaint the way you had to walk up a little path from the parking lot instead of just parking right in front of the restaurant. Two big 10 foot (or so, I didn't bring my tape measurer) doors welcome you. The restaurant isn't huge but has a separate bar area and a good sized patio. I was concerned about the noise level first walking in as the ceilings are tall and it's one big room but my wife and I both commented on how tame the volume levels were, even at 7:30 on a Saturday night. The wait staff was prompt even on a busy weekend evening. So, how was the food? I will preface this that I rarely dissect every component used in preparation, how it was plated, if they used the coveted fancy walnut instead of the more common one (you get the idea) but rather quite simply if I enjoyed the meal or not and found it satisfying and back to my opening statement... would I go back? We started with an order of the Figlets (these alone are enough reason to go back) and Grilled Artichoke. Appetizers came up in a expected amount of time. My wife is a big artichoke fan and devoured it which I went after the Figlets which are bacon, figs, goat cheese and oh so tasty. We split a baby green salad which for a house salad I really enjoyed the dressing. I had the New York steak and my wife had the Fiat Iron steak. My steak was cooked correctly and while I am not sure what it was seasoned with was very good. We finished off with the lava cake... I love a little bit of chocolate now and again. In conclusion, I really enjoyed my experience... enough to hop on yelp and write a review the next morning. I found the prices to be reasonable (comparatively speaking) to the point where I will go back more often than just "special occasion" situations... which makes me happy. read more

The flat iron grill seems to have really gone down hill. The service is inattentive and slow, but that would have been forgiven if the food was amazing. We ordered the halibut and top sirloin, and found both to be wanting. I thought the halibut was well cooked, but my gf who ordered it thought it was under salted and the sauce was lacking in flavor. The steak though, was so bad I didn't really want to finish it - it was dry, flavorless, and I basically ate around the steak going after the tasty polenta under it. Still, $26 for just polenta is a pretty bad deal - I ended up asking for some Wochester sauce and drenched the dry steak to make it edible - I ate it, but I did not enjoy it. It was like eating a steak at Applebee's, maybe worse. I was quite disappointed - the steaks I had here before were quite good, so I don't know what the issue is. They didn't offer to comp the meal, despite our obvious displeasure. Update - they did contact me to let me know they would like to offer me a meal on the house to give them another chance. That is an impressive level of care, so I am making this review a neutral 3 stars, pending update after I try it again. read more

My friend and I just enjoyed happy hour here this evening (she had a living social coupon, way to go!), and I must say, that if I lived in Issaquah I would be frequenting The Flat Iron Grill very regularly, if only to enjoy a drink and chat with the foxy bartender with the new england accent. We both got a glass of wine and the artichoke to start. This artichoke was FANTASTIC. It had some sort of salt rub on the outside and came with a lemon aioli dipping sauce. I DIE! It was delicious. After the artichoke came a staggeringly large, juicy, dripping, delectable burger, topped with bacon, bleu cheese and another type of aioli. I could be exaggerating slightly since I am still in a food/wine coma, but this may be the holy grail of burgers. Every bite was bursting with flavor and juicy burger goodness. I really enjoyed that we were asked how we wanted our burgers cooked. I know people are afraid of undercooking their patrons meat and this is America and we're paranoid in general, but COME ON, you can't eat a burger well done, it's just wrong... what's the point of eating meat? You cook out the flavor and all is lost. Being asked how we wanted our burgers cooked made me happy, simply because I haven't been asked in a really long time. I put this on the check list for good service. I opted for medium, but I probably could have gone with medium rare and been even more pleased. We also enjoyed a fallen chocolate souffle with a cardamom crust on top and dulche de leche ice cream in the middle. It was much too rich after the burger, but delicious all the same. When I have a little bit more cash in my bank account, I'll be coming back for dinner. It had a really romantic feel inside, I enjoyed their extensive wine list. Not a whiskey fan, so can't say I even perused that menu in the slightest, but if you like your bourbon/whiskey, you'll be in hog heaven. read more

We went there for lunch to try their acclaimed burgers and fries. Yes! Excellent! The burgers were juicy, delicious, with succulent thick and luscious bacon. So far - the best burgers in Issaquah IMHO. My husband loved the blue cheese (standard) on his and I liked the white cheddar on mine. The french fries were crispy and we loved the garlic cloves and fried sage added in. Totally yummy! The mixed greens salad was delicious with the red wine vinagrette dressing. The pulled pork sandwich was good too, but could have used some (BBQ) sauce to dress it up more. The fallen chocolate souffle was delicious - with the dulce de leche ice cream and cardamon coffee sweet spread on the plate - very yummy! We used a 20% off lunch coupon. We'll be back to try their happy hour choices! And hopefully their awesome lobster bisque will reappear on the menu! I'm not a fan of goat cheese - so I hope that some of their offerings with goat cheese can be modified. And the artichokes sound really good - can't wait! Amazingly good find and so close to home. It's about time. My husband is from Colorado - beef country - and he's very picky about his steak. He loved his flat iron steak, grilled perfectly. My flat iron steak, charred on the outside, pink on the inside, was perfection. Both steaks nestled on a bed of creamy polenta, the perfect foil to great seasonings. Great place! I've been here four times now and it's getting better & better. I've had the Hanger Steak, Clams & Spagetti, jambalaya, and the steak salad. They also have wonderful soup. If at all possible try the gazpacho. The best I've ever had. Service is a little slow at times so don't be in a rush. They brought me a wrong dish once and I pointed it out. They said go ahead and nosh on the incorrect one while we get your steak ready. Then they took both items off the bill. We had the New York steak, PERFECTLY cooked -(if you're a meat lover, you'll know what I mean) the Flat Iron steak - Fantastic. Stoopid... totally so awesome that I will go back!!! The cous cous with chimmmeee changga sauce is beyond. Patrick was awesome - he was our waiter at the ill fated Iris grill, so happy he stayed with the building.. the owner is TOTALLY lucky. We moved to Issaquah (well to Washington) last August. Our first night in town we were exhausted and wanted some delicious food. Using our hand dandy Yelp app we found Flat Iron Grill. Wow! We didn't expect to find such a gem! The first thing we noticed is how cute the location is. In the middle of Gilman Village surrounded by twinkle lights. Just wonderful. The decoration inside is simple and modern. Candle lit tables and low lighting - could be very romantic if we weren't with my dad and his wife :-) We have always had great service. Really nothing to complain about there! The food is amazing. I tend to always order the Flat Iron steak. It comes with goat cheese polenta that makes me want to lick the plate when I am done. The chimichurri sauce on the steak - again delicious. The last time we were there (for Mother's Day) we ordered dessert for the first time. Delicious. I ordered Apple Fritter Bread Pudding. Seriously one of the best desserts I have ever had. If I wasn't so stuffed from my steak I would have licked that bowl too :-) Best restaurant in Issaquah and we are so glad that it is so close! read more

Not impressed, and not remotely worth the price.. 3 pages of alcoholic drinks on the menu, not a single non alcoholic drink listed anywhere. I asked if they had anything that listed the drinks they had that don't have alcohol and they don't. Which puts me I the position of either asking what each item cost, or just ordering without having any idea. Ordered a very expensive ($29) Jambalaya, which came with a total of one shrimp, and was primarily just rice which wasn't even cooked completely so the rice was not even completely cooked and was hard... #ripoff the garlic sage fries were actually quite tasty. 8 bucks for the "cheesecake" which came in the form of three squares that were bite sized at best is laughable even if you do sprinkle salt on it... read more

Came here for my 65th Birthday, w/2 sons and hubby. Atmosphere charming and cozy. Acoustics are a little echo-y. If we'd known they have a nice outdoor deck, we'd have reserved a table there. Sons & Hubby love whiskey, so were happy with the huge No. of specialty/high end whiskeys they have on hand. Our service was nice-- just a tad slow. We shared three appetizers: Figlets (bacon, figs, goat cheese); Grilled Artichokes, and Clams with Chorizo. All FABULOUS! We almost licked the plates clean! A-plus! Hubby and I split a dinner for two featuring steak, Half chicken, sausage, prawns and sides of Polenta (so creamy and cheesy!) and asparagus. The steak, prawns and side dishes were terrific. The chicken and sausage okay. But a very enjoyable meal. Son 1 ordered salmon-- Jackpot! So well cooked, very flavorful, moist, etc. Son 2 ordered a Top Sirloin and said it was a little too well done for his liking, but that it was still "good", if a little bit too chewy for his preference. Had some nice after dinner Madeira and shared 2 desserts, also very good. Overall a really nice place, great food, perfect place to celebrate my birthday. Would love to try them for lunch and/or brunch sometime, especially if we can sit outside on the deck. read more

I've been here too many time to count. This place is great! Most of the time I go with my dad when he comes to visit. When I go with him we always get the Village burger. It is great! The fries that come with have cloves of garlic in them... AMAZING! When I go without my dad I try other dishes. I am a big fan of the flat iron steak. It comes with a goat cheese polenta that is really good. I also really like the chicken, quinoa salad, and chorizo locro. They recently added some new items to the menu which I really like. The service is always great and attentive. Overall this is a great restaurant you should definitely try when you're in Issaquah. read more
