Everyone I know who's gone here and the few times I have has gotten bad service. The servers just forget about you. Shouldn't take 1hr+ to just get a pizza. Multiple people came in after us with larger groups and got their meals beforehand. This has happened to other people I know as well. The excuse was that the wood was wet. After a walking tour of Portland, we came in for lunch and drinks. The 2 hostesses were friendly and sweet and seated us inside looking out toward the water. Our server took our drink orders and both wine and beer were excellent. We ordered a pesto Margherita flatbread which was one of the best we ever had. It was delicious with a perfect crust. Pizza: our waiter recommended the sausage unequivocally as the meat choice. We added carmelized onions and it arrived hot, crispy and quickly, and was great. We ordered a second pizza without red sauce, with chicken and mushrooms. Also fresh ingredients well prepared, and the friend that ordered it said it was great also. Honestly it worked out really well. We ate outside with a beautiful view of the water! I split the Punctuated Equilibrium pizza with my friend, and it was out of this world. They were able to put certain ingredients on only half of the pizza which was convenient! The staff here was very friendly, and they had a great system in place for COVID. We came here about 20 mins before the kitchen closed on a Sunday night and the place was still bustling. I ordered the VT maple syrup sausage and mushroom flatbread (small), an Allagash white (of course) and my friend ordered dessert. The food came promptly and I can see why it's a popular place. Personally, I prefer savory food and in my haste of seeing the perfect storm of sausage and mushroom toppings, failed to see the sausage was VT maple syrup flavored. And boy was it! My friend even commented that she was surprised I picked it lol. My bad! The place cleared out shortly after and our server was super gracious and didn't harass us to leave. The staff seemed to all get along and used the end of the night to get the place in order for the next day while the remaining few tables commiserated. Overall: it was so filling but still good. Just tried Flatbread for the first time and was quite impressed. I was in a group of around 16-17 and they took the reservation and handled our large group without any issues. You can watch them make the flatbreads if you seated close enough to the open kitchen and they make tasty food. Service was quick and attentive considering the size of our party. Our food and drinks also arrived in a quick amount of time as well. Me and my fiancé split one of their current monthly specials and it was very well made. It included grass raised beer, mashed potatoes, and corn. It was seasoned very well and cooked to perfection in their wood-fire oven. I have a couple other places I think I would still prefer to get a pizza/flatbread at but will gladly add this into my rotation. The price was extremely reasonable considering our large party size which was also a giant plus! Nitrate free Mushroom and Pepperoni pizza - Delicious, plenty of ingredients on top. 2. Homemade Sausage pizza - Initially doubted this one since it's no-sauce but it was flavorful with the sheer ingredients in it. Came here for lunch and it was a little confusing at first to figure out exactly where the entrance was but the location was excellent. They have outdoor dining around back, though you can't easily see it from the entrance. The spacing is great and so is the service! The flatbread was amazing! We ordered the special for that day which came with mushrooms but we asked for it without mushrooms. Unfortunately our waiter had forgotten to put that detail in so it did still come out with mushrooms but he was super apologetic about it and offered to grab us a new one and even offered up free dessert. Flatbread is a large pizza restaurant in the city of Portland. I went to dinner at Flatbread in January with my dad and two friends, after skiing. Flatbread it is pretty cool because you can see them make the pizza in giant pizza ovens. The ovens also keep the space nice and warm. In the summer you can sit outside on the water. Flatbread is good for kids and families, but it is bad for dates because it is pretty loud. Flatbread has salads and many pizzas. They also have gluten free and vegetarian options. When we first sat down, the waiter got us water immediately and asked us what we would want to drink. We asked for chocolate milk and it came very fast. The mug was pretty cool, it was a big glass mug. When we sat down he gave us some crayons to color with; it entertained us a lot. When he came to take our order we told him we wanted cheese and pepperoni pizza. He asked us if we had any allergies, we said no. He was very nice. When the waiter served us he put it in the middle of the table and the pizza looked so good. They went very thin on the sauce, that was a good thing in my opinion. The pizza was very greasy, but delicious. It took a while for him to come back. We ask for desert it came pretty fast and looked very good, it was a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream with chocolate sauce. It was the best desert I've ever had. So, I was ecstatic to finally have a group of friends commit to a Friday night dinner here! First off, this restaurant is dark, loud, and when it's busy, it's BUSY. It can be hard to maneuver your way into your table. Once you're settled, it's worth all the hubbub. Our server was super sweet and very patient, even though there was a whole group of us with separate needs and split up orders. I got a Maine Beer Company lunch (of course) and the Punctuated Equilibrium pie to share with my sister. Food came out pretty quickly, and the server was totally fine with us having separate checks. The pizza itself was delicious: kalamata olives, red peppers, goat cheese, rosemary, red onions, and other cheese. The goat cheese was a bit much, but the olives complemented the flavor so well I didn't mind. Large pie was $18. Split between two people, it really wasn't bad. Come here if you don't mind the wait, and if you don't mind yelling over people to have a conversation. It was a bit wild trying to talk to my friends here. Flatbread is an easy "go to" when I need to find a menu for all but still want to show off some seasonal local ingredients. It's favorite pizzeria in Portland, but also my favorite SALAD. Yes, I said it. They're incredible. Flatbread was the first place I ever dined when I moved to the Maineland, and I'm still fond of my first experience there: I sat at the bar, was greeted by a waiter and asked him for a local beer. He let me sample a few before pouring me a tall glass of Bunker. I then ordered a Jay's Heart (now my favorite is the punctuated equilibrium). He offered to bring me fresh parm cheese, a side of salad dressing and some of their homemade hot sauce in case I wanted to try it. I said, "bring it on!" I sat at the bar, drinking my beer, and before you could even blink I had fully indulged on all of my glorious offerings. (Yes, that means an entire pie to myself.) Do as the locals, friends. Get the salad dressing and the hot sauce with your Za. Rotate splashes on top of your pie, and then dunk your crust in all its glory. It's a MUST when I go there, and my visitors always rave about it too. Don't skip their rotating veggie and carne specials, and make sure you try their seasonal salads too. I LOVE adding goat cheese to mine. They're also great for splitting if you want an easy starter with a friend. I almost forgot something important... for dessert, they offer a chocolate chip banana bread that gets placed in their ovens before they put a big scoop of ice cream and fudge on top. Oh.my.god... this place!!! We looked this place up online, while waiting for our ferry in Portland's old port. Just across the cobblestone walkway from the ferry terminals sits flatbread company. They have inside dining as well as a small section on the back deck, over looking some docks with boats and water taxis. You can actually see the water under the boards your feet rest on. We ordered drinks, a salad and a large no sauce flatbread. The headlight lemonade, raspberry flavored, and it was delicious. It was made with maple syrup and the perfect amount of lemon just and zest. One of the best drinks I've had in a very long time. The chicken bacon ranch salad with homemade ranch dressing and perfectly cooked crispy bacon was gone before it hit the table... and the flatbread, OH THE FLATBREAD... best ever. We ordered the cheese and herb which came with no tomato sauce but instead a brushing of oil and herbs on the dough itself. It really was just fantastic. I can't even describe the joy my tastebuds were in while devouring this flatbread. Nothing came home with us and the one salad and large flatbread was enough to feed three of us.
