To be honest I'm not sure if the protein matters since there is so much happening in the bowls. You can tell everything is fresh, maybe the exception are fries are already cooked and not to order. Doesn't bother me since they still had good texture. Cool atmosphere and felt very inviting. Didn't try the green sauce but the red sauce is very mild. This is a review for their new extended section to the shop, cafehive, but I have been here for food at flavorhive and it is always so great with large portions enough for a few days! It was my first time at cafehive and I was impressed by the large selection of drinks and desserts on the menu. On this visit, I only tried their coffee, but I will definitely come back to try their desserts. I love the concept of the build your own desserts with the unlimited toppings! As for drinks- Tiramisu latte is the most popular and banana bread latte is one of the new ones and was recommended to me to try by the cashier. If you are deciding between the two, the tiramisu has the stronger coffee taste whereas the banana bread is sweet with a slight banana flavor. The only thing I will say is while the menu is beautiful the drinks don't really come out looking like how I expected based on what I have seen on Instagram with all the foam and toppings.. maybe an off day but the tiramisu latte I thought had mascarpone cold foam for example. read more

We ordered the half rice/half fries base, honey chicken (sweet and spicy), steak (nice seasoning!!), and tons of toppings (chickpeas, red onion, jalapenos, fried onions, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, purple cabbage, cucumbers, white and green sauces)! Okay, let me tell you about one of our FAVORITE spots--Flavor Hive. We first discovered them from their food truck parked across the street from a Best Buy, and I remember that day so clearly. It was super hot July 2025, and I was fresh post-op in compression from chest to feet. I refused to be out in that heat without extra air, so we had stopped at Best Buy to grab a window unit and that's how we ended up trying Flavor Hive. We noticed the truck across the street. Best decision ever! We got bowls loaded with steak, chicken, and lamb and it was just flavor overload in the best way. We' ve also tried the pita pockets, Quesadilla, Loaded fries, and even did the "bring your own chips" Walking taco bag option where they load them up with meats and topping SO good!! From that moment, we were hooked. This was our second time visiting their storefront (first time was during their soft opening), and you can really see how much they've elevated the space. Now there's a whole café side with its own entrance with beautiful club chairs, tables for four, and plenty of outlets if you want to sit, work, and sip your coffee. Then there's the main Flavor Hive food side. I love that you can grab coffee from either side too. For our April 2026 visit, we noticed lamb is no longer on the menu (and it's not at the food trucks anymore either, I asked!), but they've added a hot honey chicken and it is DELICIOUS. Not too spicy. I built a bowl with hot honey chicken and steak, light rice, fresh veggies and lettuce, and white sauce. They also have a new Hive sauce, which tasted like a smoky sauce with a little Thousand Island vibe also good. I got it on the side this time, but next time I'm definitely having them add it right onto my bowl. The fresh drinks are also a hit I went with strawberry watermelon and it was super refreshing. Great taste. Ginger pear is also really good. If you haven't been yet, whether you catch the food truck or visit the storefront, just know you're in for some of the most flavorful chicken (and steak) rice bowls you're going to find. First of all, the fact that there is a small and a large bowl is crazy to me. The small bowl is plenty of food. If you get the large bowl, I imagine you must be sharing it with someone because who's going to eat all that. Just as I expected my bowl was delicious. The food and the flavors are always consistent, and the staff is always pleasant. I was too full for dessert so I'll try that another time. There were a few tables inside for eating but more outside. My other go-to spot for halal rice bowls besides DCG! They're very different in flavor and topping. Flavor Hive has many sauce and topping options, basically unlimited, and they are VERY generous. The regular bowl will FILL you up. Sometimes they just put the toppings on the side in another bowl so you have even MORE LOL. Excellent service and efficient most of the time!! I usually get rice and salad with chicken and gyro (not listed for some reason) combo with most toppings. The toppings are a nice touch since they're fresh and veggies! Flavor Hive honestly lives up to the viral hype. The chicken was mad juicy and full of flavor, sitting on fresh, fluffy rice with super fresh-cut veggies like onions and cilantro. You can tell everything was made with care and not just thrown together. I'd definitely grab it again if they're around, but I'm not waiting forever in a long line for it. I've been three times now - twice for a weekday lunch and once for a novelty dinner with a bag of chips and some add-ins for the ice cream. The novelty experience is fun and makes things different, but it is an enormous amount of food and not very healthy (even if you do the smaller size), so something I probably would do very infrequently. For a lunchtime meal, a small chicken bowl over salad with all the free fixins is a pretty good deal. Food seems fresh and fairly healthy (tho lots of sodium!) when chosen with care, and service has been friendly each time. I don't love that different meats or the cheese result in extra charges. For somebody who is both cost- and health-conscious, options are pretty limited and I'll probably get a pretty similar bowl each time I come which means I will come less often since I don't necessarily need those flavors once a week. It's good for what it is and the novelty of the ice cream and walking tacos is fun for once in a while. Word of the wise: they may not let you do mix-ins for the ice cream that are gooey or caramely. They said that can cause the machine to gum up and require extra cleaning. Bring something dry or crumbly. read more

Halal food truck turned restaurant -- we had to check this place out when they opened their new spot in Annandale! After seeing all the viral videos, we came prepared with our bags of chips and ordered in true Chipotle-style, picking our meats and veggies at the counter. I went with the Super Meat (a combo of all their meats), while my fiancé chose the chicken. We loaded everything up with sauces and added an order of fries on the side. The meats were all well-seasoned and really flavorful, but we realized our mistake -- the chips overpowered everything else, so we couldn't fully enjoy all the great flavors. This has to be one of the best places for halal food over rice. I have been following them on instagram for a while. I finally got to try their delicious meat over rice with amazing sauce. They have two options. Small meal for $12 or large portions for $16. I took the large one. They stuffed it with good portion that was good enough for two meals. The meat was very flavorful. I highly recommend the combination of white and spicy sauce. I ordered chips on the side. I love their chips. Nice and crispy and with a pinch of spice added to it. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND QUALITY OF FOOD! My wife and I have been following Flavor Hive on social media for at least a year. We finally decided to make the trek from western Maryland to the new store front on a Friday afternoon. We fought through busy and brake wearing traffic to get here with hungry stomachs! This location appears to be converted into a restaurant from possibly a bank. There is plenty of free parking in a busy area of town. We arrived late afternoon and there were a few customers eating but no line. My wife and I walked up to the counter with a bag of Fritos scoops. The restaurants claim to fame is to bring your bag of chips, or whatever else and get the food on top! The person taking our order was super nice, had a huge smile and helped us make our topping decisions. We've seen the massive portions online so we split a walking taco and went simple with double chicken, rice, tomato, cilantro and white sauce! When he handed us the bag, it was warm and heavy! They had a decent selection of fresh juices and sodas on fountain as well. We sat down in the ample dining room seating, very excited. Is it worth the hype? YES!!! The food is seasoned perfectly, with a touch of heat but nothing the average person can't handle. My favorite part was honestly the rice. After finishing, I felt full but not gross like fast food. While eating, we got to watch a local artist painting a beautiful mural on the wall of Annandale which was really cool! After we finished eating and stood up to leave, a gentleman sitting at a nearby table stood up and asked us how our meal was and how far we had driven. We explained it was delicious and it was our anniversary so we decided to finally try it. He welcomed us and offered us a sweet treat for our anniversary. He gave us a slice of tiramisu and lattes that they make in their new machine. Wow!!! Outstanding. They have tons of latte options and ice cream too. This man introduced himself as Drew. He did not say anything else and was very humble. He was dressed in business clothes so I assumed he was the manager or something. I have mixed feelings with the service and the size of the portions (because the regular salad bowl used to be what it's the "bigger/beast mode size"), this time we came with 2 other friends that live nearby, we decided to get dinner here since they also frequent this spot. This night in particular was fairly slow, we were able to secure a high top inside! Their brick and mortar location has a lot of seating area inside and outside, usually is busy that is best for take-out! The flavors are still very quality, the hive sauce is very unique and has the right amount of sweetness to balance the green one! Still the toppings are very fresh and the falafel still holds the reputation of being crunchy but not stodgy like other halal restaurants. My problem is that when the OG servers from the Flavor Hive Truck aren't on the shift, the people at the counter prepping the bowls, seem to be careless of what they serve you or how they serve the food, if I'm making sense. My friend wanted the beef/steak option with her salad and the employee told her "no we do not have beef" as she is looking at the protein station and confirming that, yes, they did have beef/steak available... they had a hard time to get my other friend's order, just the rice bowl and kept trying to give his partner rice when she wanted a salad. I'm not sure what's going on, but it seems like they just don't care (I get it, it's retail job and hard) but it shouldn't be that hard. I enjoyed my meal, even though they didn't give me any cheese nor explained why I couldn't get it. It's so wonderful to see the growth of this fan favorite food truck go to new heights. I went here earlier this summer when it opened and it wasn't too packed as I remembered. If you like chipotle-style places then this is no different. You have the option of getting a small meal for $12 or $16 for a large bowl. They do pack the bowl to the brim, and I am not kidding you; it lasted me for two servings. They do not skimp on any ingredients for your bowl. They are also known for loading up bags of chips with meat, rice tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cilantro! Honestly for the price of $10 bucks that's a steal. In this place, there's also an ice cream maker machine that has the same concept too, bring your own cookies or anything you'd like on ice cream, and the store would blend their scoop of ice cream and your ingredient for a masterpiece you receive! It's so cool, but I don't know if I will be getting ice cream any time soon. Overall, my experience was wonderful, I didn't stay inside to dine in but I did notice that they had their own line of drinks. I can't say much but try it out too while your there. Or you can bring your own bag of chips for a walking taco bag. Very generous serving of protein and veggies. Loved the crunch from the cabbage & cucumbers. Sauces are delicious. The green is SPICY, which helped me slow down a bit, which was good, because everything is so tasty. I'm a spicy gal, but it's up there on spice level. I ordered fries & regular chicken and all the veggies. It turned out to be 3 meals for me :-) Next time, personally, I'll do salad because the portions are so large and it was more than plenty. I have been to flavor hive once before maybe about a year ago at the Alexandria location and specifically remember really loving the date chai. So when I was craving that again, I decided why not go stop by again, but this time at the Annandale location. We decided to actually order our food online and pick it up in person. While ordering, I noticed that the date chai was not on the menu, but I figured that maybe when I'm picking it up, I could just order it in person. We were handed our paper bag with her to go order and we headed home. Mind you we live 20 mins away. We got home, sat down to eat, and as soon as we unpacked our bag, we noticed that they only gave us one rice bowl. We were both so upset because we were actually pretty hungry and annoyed at the fact that we have to drive another 20 minutes there and back. So we go back, we show them the receipt and tell them that we only got one rice bowl. The woman working the to go order says that there's only one rice bowl on the receipt, which is why she packed one. However, there was in fact, two rice bowls on the receipt and once we pointed it out to her, she said she misread it. Disappointing experience. However, the rice bowl itself was very good and flavorful. It had a desi taste to it that i liked compared to a more middle eastern taste like most halal cart places if that makes sense. My overall thoughts on @flavorhivetruck : Was it worth the two hour wait? -Yes and no. We would've been out in an hour, but they ran out of meat. So we had to wait another 45 mins for them to bring the food from their Annandale location, and then cook it. Which is why it took two hours long. I heard other people say they waited upwards of FIVE HOURS. I wouldn't wait that long. So if you can make the drive to Annandale, do so! The wait sucked cause it was hella windy. If it was a nice cool day, I wouldn't have minded. How was the food? -AMAZING!! The flavors are absolutely delicious. Super seasoned, the white sauce was bomb and the green sauce was so spicy. But a good spicy! They ran out of the sesame chickpeas which I was so sad about. I was looking forward to trying those!! How about the portion size? -I've seen the portions they give on TikTok and IG, and it def did not look like what we got. I think they were just trying to spread out what they brought back for the rest of the night. The line kept getting longer and longer!! So the portions were kind of skimp. When I told the guy behind the counter we came all the way from New Jersey to eat here and there were no tables he said no problem and went outside and got a table and chairs for me and my husband. I understand it now!!! Flavor Hive is the place to be!! I visited the restaurant this evening for the first time and it was packed with good energy, good vibes and good food. I ordered the chicken and beef bowls with toppings and Hive Sauce. I decided to try the chicken bowl for dinner when I returned home and it was delicious. I was mad at myself for not getting extra Hive Sauce because it was soooo good!! I'm so happy for the visionaries/owners behind this incredible restaurant. I can't wait to return!!! Here are a few helpful tips: The line moves fast so don't let the crowd turn you away; it's worth the wait! This place is packed full of people and great! There is a super long line but it's worth the wait. Everyone you see in line is either carrying a large chip bag or container! We brought 2 Dorito bags, one cool ranch and one nacho cheese. Once you come to the front of the line to order they take your chips right away and load it with the toppings you want. I really suggest getting extra white sauce it's so delicious as well as a little green sauce! Because it is the most spicy sauce I've ever eaten! They even warn you about it. Placed an online order through Yelp and stopped by to pick it up. Restaurant was packed with no indication of where to go... an employee helping everyone told me the Annandale location didn't have online ordering. Guess I'll straighten it out later. I'll give 3 stars for now - update when resolved Updated my review to 5 stars. Stopped by to get the order today and had no problem. Portions are twice the size and flavor of similar restaurants and the ingredients are fresh. The employees were welcoming and apologetic to be still setting up at 11:05.
