I wish I could say more positive things about this store. A woman with gray hair helped me. I'm from out of town and she was able to find my size and information. Compared to the help I received from a younger rep, he didn't even try. While she was ringing me up, a short curly haired male rep, (manager?) suddenly shouted to her across the store. " Hey "name" its time for you to go." This interupted our transaction and conversation. The female employee became nervous and was uncomfortable. He negotiated with her in front of customers and even verbally reprimanded her, in public. This was uncalled for and very unprofessional, this person should be fired for treating employees like this. I've been looking for Hokas online but wasn't sure what my size was with this particular brand. Came to this place since they have lot of selection for Hokas. Hokas are not that cheap so i had to make sure I had the right fit. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I made an appointment online for my exact foot shoe measurement and it went smoothly. A staff member ran a thorough test by having her stand on a sensory platform that collects data to report the condition of her feet. I first went to Fleet Feet in the Elk Grove area a couple months back. I asked them about being fit for shoes and they did an amazing job finding shoes that work for my foot and had me feel the difference with the inserts. They even email you your 3D foot scan. They told me my arches collapse inward, which I already knew and found shoes that push them outward. When I told the woman who was helping me that I was going to purchase them later, she went from friendly to cold. A couple months later, I ordered the shoes on their website and wanted to go into the store for their inserts. You need to cut the inserts to the size of your shoes and I preferred to have them do it. The woman that helped me in the Davis store was very friendly throughout the process. However when she was cutting the insoles, and I was on the bench right in front of her, she was having a conversation with one of her co-workers. Great products at Fleet Feet! I can't say enough good things about Fleet Feet. Is truly a shop for runners. And even us hackers! Simply put, these guys know which shoes are right for your feet. They will make recommendations and even watch you run in the shoes you are trying on. they have one of those computerized foot scanning devices too. Based on scan, they can recommend the right shoes for you. Honestly, I really do think that it gives quite a bit of insight. I have plantar fasciitis and I pronate. They listen to me when I said that I did not want to wear "old lady shoes," and brought me several things that I was very happy with. Joey spent a tremendous amount of time with me and my daughter-in-law. He is an incredible employee. He really knows his stuff and has the patience of a saint. I've been buying shoes there for about 20 years and he is by far the most knowledgeable person who has helped me. Fleet feet carries a pretty nice collection of running clothes and have recently started carrying a bit of Lululemon. They also have really good sports bras that will support those about to have "bigger girls." Came in with my girlfriend recently and both of us left happily with a pair of shoes fit us well. The staff in the store are professional and really know how to pick right shoes. They also carry many brands and some are less marketed but offer really nice running shoes. My gf suffered knee pain after long period of running. The guy quickly identify that my gf has the rare under pronation problem put her on a pair of Karhu shoe and she never wants to go back to her Airmax again. I have a flat foot and big toes poked out of the soft farbic of many shoes' toe box. After searching for a long time, I found that most of favorite brands(Asics, Saucuny etc) tend to offer shoes with soft top surface for breathability. The staff again picked a pair of Karhu and another pair of Salomon which exactly fit my needs. Give this store a shot rather than shouting in the dark on Amazon if you are looking for a pair of running shoes. We were lucky that we bought the Karhu my gf tried with almost 100 dollars off. So they may not be as competitive as Amazon on pricing but they do have sales. read more

Great place to buy quality shoes and inserts or orthotics. Came in and was immediately greeted and serviced by Jake. They had me stand on the foot scan and the gait measuring mat to get a 3D, accurate, impression of my feet. The Volumental technology they use is quite fancy - it gives you data on heal-to-toe length, ball width, arch height, in-step height, heel width, ball girth, in-step girth. I found out that I have a huge difference in my arches. I have higher than average arch in my left foot and lower than average arch on my right foot -- super interesting... I had no idea. Apparently, this was why I was getting random aches and pains in my feet, ankles and knees, as my leg & body compensated the difference. Since my goal was to find comfort and minimize pain & further injury, I decided to fork out $130 for custom orthotics, which they said will last twice as long as the life of the shoe itself. They also helped me select the brand and types of shoes that matched my foot profile. I ended up buying Hoka as they provide the most support and helps with those (like myself) who overpronate. They placed my order and it arrived at the store for pick-up within 1 week. The prices of the shoes may seem expensive here, but in actuality, it's the same price online if you buy directly from the shoe company. NOTE - This is NOT where you go if you want cheap or affordable regular shoes to wear. This place is designed for those who want quality shoes and customizable shoes/inserts (ie. runners, athletes, long-shift workers who stand/walk a lot or those who have foot problems). Went in twice (been a long time FF customer) for education/questions after always buying my shoes there and didn't appreciate the way the Manager Michael talked to me. It was like he was thought I was accusing them of something when I just was looking for info. He doesn't take his time and is very quick. One of the reasons I shop there is for customer service and he is providing below par service in my opinion. Our house hold spends at least $350 per year on running shoes there. Even non-runners can find a welcoming experience at Fleet Feet. I wanted to get a reflective safety vest for bike rides home in the dark. I felt kind of paranoid and dorky for wanting to get one. But then the woman who rang me up thanked me for buying it. She said she wished more people wore them to make themselves visible to cars. Amazing customer service. A marathoner coworker suggested I come for walking shoes that wouldn't make my knees hurt. Joey greeted me the moment I came into the store and took me through the testing process. He identified the best shoes for me to try, and after many test walks around the store noted that I had been wearing the wrong size and width. After finding the right shoes he helped me find the right inserts, always explaining options and differences between brands. My podiatrist recommended this place for new walking/running shoes, and I had an excellent experience. A shop employee took me through an extensive but streamlined process getting measurements of my feet and gait to help narrow down the best shoe options, then set me up with a good pair of insoles as well to help reduce my foot pain from walking long distances. A few weeks later I can confirm the shoes are fantastically suited to me & have improved the mileage and quality of my daily walks by a lot. Went in for my appointment as a newish runner since running hurt with my old shoes. Michael(?) was great - he spent about 30 minutes with me. He used the foot scan and measured my feet while walking, then he had me try on about three pairs of shoes. When I picked my favorite, he also brought out the previous years model of the same shoe, which was discounted. I ended up liking the newer, more expensive model better, but I appreciated that he offered the other one too. I'm sure I'll be back. read more

Went in today around 4:30pm to try to buy a pair of shoes. No employees acknowledged my presence... I was in the store for ~15 minutes, standing by the shoe rack, then walking around, then sitting where people try on shoes. I saw least three employees and tried to make eye contact or wave them over, but it was like they were all actively avoiding me. No "is anyone helping you", not even a "I'm busy right now, but I will be with you in a minute." Worst customer service I've ever experienced, will definitely not be back. read more

I've never been much of a runner (although I do enjoy sprinting; distance is another issue). Being Asian, my parents would buy me shoes that were too big for me so I would "grow into" them. (However, by 6th grade, my feet had stopped growing and thus, I still own several pairs of shoes that are just too big.) My current pair is not actually meant for actual movement (other than comfortable walking), so I'm actually really surprised I haven't broken anything yet. Anyway, I figured better late than never. Why not start now? But I'd definitely need new shoes for this to happen. So I went to Fleet Feet! Best shoe buying experience ever. I was reading up how to find a good pair of running shoes and the article told me to make sure they'd let me wear them out of the store to run around and see how that felt. I never even knew there were stores that would allow you to do that. They measured my feet and watched me run around outside. We talked about my crappy finals, different kinds of socks, the cushioning of the shoe, how many miles they could take, how I would know when to get a new pair. They were really friendly and I'm actually really excited to run now, since it feels like I'm running around on clouds. I'm definitely happy with my purchase, even if the amount spent would feed me for a month and is singularly the most expensive thing I have ever purchased for myself in my life. (They're not any more expensive than other stores, I don't think. I just happen to be a frugal Asian.) read more

Product is quality. Service is terrible. My wife and I both bought a pair of shoes there with inserts. At check out I asked if there was a senior discount or disabled Veteran discount. The clerk replied no because "this is a corporate store and discounts are not allowed". So we paid and left. After arriving home I emailed Fleet Feet corporate headquarters in Carrboro, NC and asked about their discount policy. A few days later I received a reply from corporate and they stated that discounts were up to each individual store corporate or franchise. SO THE GIRL LIED TO ME ABOUT THE DISCOUNTS! We will be going back to the franchise store in Vacaville where they do have discounts for seniors and vets. read more

I walked into Fleet Feet to buy new shoes. I have flat feet and an old ankle injury so i need good support. My size 10.5 New Balance seemed a little short and my granddaughter had recently had an excellent experience at Fleet Feet. A friend also had been there and gotten Hoka which she said beat her New Balance for support and comfort. I walked on the mat, stuck my feet in the machine etc and was told I needed a size 8.5. The clerk convinced me I didn't want Hokas and I convinced the clerk to bring out size 11 and found a shoe that seemed comfortable and had adequate support. But I hated the color so he called and found it at another store. He said he would call when they came in and, although I was ready to pay, said to pay when they came in. No call ever came. I went back to Joe's New Balance Outlet. Turned out getting "fitted" in person was a waste of my time. For this unfortunate service I would have paid twice as much for my shoes. No thanks Fleet Feet, you convinced me my online experience was superior in every way. read more

The female employees here are extremely rude! I was in a week earlier just looking. I was told by a few male associates that they had a military discount of 10%. I returned with my husband to buy Hoka tennis shoes for my him and I. The lady laughed at me and said there has been some miscommunication on there end about a military discount. As of last week, I've now lived in Davis for five months. Trust me, five months in a college town when you've been out of school for more than half a decade is a longgggg time. But since early December, life has gotten decidedly better. You see, my boyfriend was going to buy me a new pair of running shoes for my birthday, and when he asked where to find them, I immediately knew the answer. Fleet Feet, no matter the location, is pretty much the Holy Grail of running stores. I've been buying running shoes off and on from them since I was but a wee lass of 13 getting my first pair of cross country race spikes. And in Davis, a town overflowing with road warriors pounding the pavement, I knew that the FF had to be good. And so we bought the shoes. While buying the shoes, I saw they had half-marathon training programs. And so I signed up for a program. In the past month since the training officially started, I've lost nearly 10 lbs, met a whole bunch of really cool like-minded people, and I've finally started exploring this silly little town. I've also bought a new running watch, signed up and paid for a couple of races, bought a new handheld mini-water bottle for the long runs, and also a big ol' Trigger Point foam roller because you don't lose 10 lbs in a month without also severely straining a few muscles. I've spent enough money over the past few weeks that I just got a $25 gift certificate from them as a thank you. Seriously FF? Nearly everything about your store is great - the staff is amazingly knowledgeable and helpful, the equipment is top notch, and the training programs are small enough that my coaches sent me a personal email last week when I missed a practice. My only complaint - a minor one - is that some of the clothing is pricey, and I'm just as happy getting cheapo athletic gear from Target. As for everything else in the shop...let's just seal the deal Fleet Feet and get an automatic transfer line from my bank going. Shut up and take my money! read more

I have shopped at Fleet Feet for several years. A couple of months ago I had a problem with a pair of running shoes. The running shoes had less then 40 miles on them and I felt they were breaking down rather quickly. When I arrived at Fleet Feet, I was met by Chris Denton (Co-owner) of the store. I explained my concerns about the shoes-without missing a beat, Chris told me the shoes had more miles then I stated, essentially calling me a liar. She was rude and she dismissed my concerns about the shoes. When I got home, I went to shoe review website and found many of my same concerns about the New Balance running shoes. Since I'm a fairly new runner I have documented the miles in a running log. She made me feel very uncomfortable to the point that I will never return to the store as much as I have enjoyed purchasing shoes and clothing over the past 15 years. read more

Received great service from Courtney. Came in here around 6:30 and all employees were working with someone until past closing. I have started training for a 10k in 5 weeks and been running in shoes that were quite undeniably toast. I was given a lot of shoe options and had a short run up and down the street in each pair while Courtney watched my gait. I ended up picking up Hoka One Ones with inserts, which Courtney warned would take my body some getting used to mechanically. I did go for a run yesterday in the shoes and had some lower back soreness, but either way I was assured that if for any reason the shoes don't work out, I can come back within 90 days to figure out a better suited shoe. Though I don't know for sure yet if the Hokas will prove to be right for me once my body gets used to the inserts and the shoes themselves, I feel comfortable leaving a 5 star review because of excellent service, no feeling of hesitation (if I think another shoe would suit me better, I can go back and sort that) and a price that matched the internet's. Always happy to support local even if it costs a bit more than ordering online, especially for sporting equipment, shoes, and clothes, which I do not have the luxury of always fitting comfortably into with my short, wide feet. Problems with their coordination of special order inventory. If you have unusual feet (I wear size 15), you may be better off ordering through Zappos. I had to keep coming back to Fleet Feet because they'd misplaced part of my order, or ordered the wrong size, or ordered a substitute product without explaining to me why. No one in the store took ownership of these repeated issues or apologized to me for them. When they ordered a substitute set of arches without notifying me beforehand, I was told flatly and unsympathetically, "They don't make the other kind in your size." Okay, that's fine, but why wasn't I notified of that before the order was placed? They appear to have problems coordinating these special orders among all of their employees, who aren't always working in the store at the same time. They need a better way to track and verify these special orders and the communication that is being given to the customer regarding their status. As an avid runner, I was initially excited to be supporting a local running establishment, but after having to go back to the store 4 times now, I think in the future I will go with Zappos instead; their shipping is faster and they have never misplaced my order. read more

I'm not a runner but I've jumped on the Crock bandwagon recently and these folks have a good selection. Rumor has it they have excellent fitting advise for your running shoe needs. Davis is a total tri-geek town so they have to know their stuff. Both times I've been in the store, there have been many friendly and helpful employees here. The store is a chain, but this one is locally owned. They love Dixie and fight over who gets to feed her the jerky treats that they keep behind the counter. read more

Not wanting to trust my own judgement on the right running shoe for me, I came here for their expert advice. They measure your foot and watch you run and ask a few questions to determine the best shoe for you. Turns out that I don't over pronate or over supinate. What a relief... because who would want to hang out with an overpronator... or an oversupinator for that matter. I got a great pair of well-fitting shoes and was in and out in no time.
