Went here to grab some burritos to go based on their reviews and proximity to the San Mateo CalTrains station. We ordered two regular burritos (chicken and steak), a breakfast burrito, and a steak plate. The food was made fresh to order; we could hear them sizzling the meats and smelling the tortillas. It did take longer to be ready than expected though which made us late for our next destination unfortunately. We didn't eat there but there's some indoor seating and a few outdoor tables. The place was welcoming and clean. I didn't see a public restroom. We ate the food in the car so I didn't take pictures. The burritos were average. Both of them had low meat to filling ratio (mostly rice and beans) but the flavor was good and the burritos were tightly wrapped so were not messy thankfully. The steak plate in contrast had a lot of meat. Not sure if I would return. The lady at the counter was very nice. The food was packaged well for travel. This review is based on ordering a regular steak taco and super burrito steak. I give it a one star because the woman working the cash register was very friendly and the tortilla for the taco was very good. Otherwise the steak in both dishes was chewy and flavorless. Many of the bites were inedible and had to be thrown out. Thankfully the steak portions were not generous so I didn't have to struggle with chewing it. The meat is delicious, and the tortilla was soft and perfect, with great salsas! They also include tortilla chips and salsa with the meal. The staff who work there are so nice as well. The most characteristic feature about eating at Fletch's Taqueria is that every few minutes, you'll be interrupted by the flashing lights of the railroad crossing followed by the roar of the engine of the passing Caltrain. And yet, this tiny restaurant, built in the side of a downtown San Mateo parking structure next to the train tracks, deserves high praise for its surprisingly amazing food! To start, our server brought us a basket of tortilla chips and a super flavorful, chunky pico de gallo. We started with the California burrito, a flour tortilla encasing a filling of chopped carne asada, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and the most characteristic ingredient, crinkle cut French fries. All the different components of this burrito came together nicely from the juicy steak to the refreshing sour cream and pico de gallo to the creamy guacamole and the crispy, starchy fries. It went particularly nicely with some of their thick hot sauce, which had a spicy yet balanced flavor. Next, I had the (Super) Taco Milanesa, which came with chopped breaded chicken along with lettuce, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cilantro, and onion, along with sides of sliced radish, pickled carrots, jalapeño, and a lime wedge. But the best part about the taco was the puffy, chewy handmade corn tortilla that it was built on, which also came with a layer of melted griddled cheese. My favorite item of all, however, was the Special Shrimp Taco, also made with a handmade tortilla along with plump marinated shrimp, a creamy coleslaw (made with purple cabbage), and a tropical mango salad, all topped with guacamole and sour cream. What a combination--the spices of the shrimp were balanced by the refreshing coleslaw and the sweet cubes of mango, and the creamy guacamole and sour cream rounded out the flavors of every bite! We walked in and thought great no one is here so it should be pretty quick, nope. We were the only people there and it still took over 30+ mins to get our to go order. Now moving on to the food. We ordered the steak plate (3/5 beans are super dry and steak is okay), quesadilla with chicken (3/5 super greasy but good flavor to chicken), super wet burrito with steak and chicken (1/5 charged for super but had no sour cream, no cheese, no guacamole- so where's the super part?), and lastly 3 tacos (2/5 made with handmade tortillas- al pastor, steak, and carnitas). I was bummed out that they had run out of carnitas and it was barely 6pm, so since I had already paid for my order I substituted fish since they are priced the same. Overall disappointing due to lack of flavor, burned tortilla, and missing condiments of the super that I paid for. Doubt we would be back ever again. read more

I decided to order the regular carne asada burrito but man was I underwhelmed. Keep in mind, I was starving. Came home and took my first bite and got a big chewy piece of fat. That was only the beginning. The rest of the burrito was the same. After spitting out most of the meat- I knew I made a mistake. I realize they still serve hot dogs and burgers so that's what I would order if you come here. the service was very friendly and the chips were decent hence my two star rating. there are other mexican food options in the area - just not sure fletch's is where you'll want to go for that. read more
