It was kind of cool to see it very empty, because we could admire all the goat accents around the interior and the cool bar, without a million people around it. There was a brunch menu at that early hour, but we decided to stick with the normal menu. Our server was great, and definitely very attentive since we were the only party in the place the entire time we were there. I had just had dental surgery so there were only a few things I could eat. I got the Meatballs appetizer (to cut up and have some meat in my stomach) and the French Onion Soup, which was the soup of the day. The French Onion Soup was super creamy and delicious. I'm used to there being just sort of darker brown with the cream and cheese on top only. This was totally cream colored and hearty. It came with a few pieces of bread points too that were good to dip/soak in the soup. My more substantial part of my meal, the meatballs, were a little less appetizing though. First off they came in a bowl, so they are not easy to cut at all (being giant meatballs, I would think anyone would want to cut them a little). And secondly, the meatballs themselves were kind of flavorless. There was some marina style sauce in the bowl with them, but the meat of the meatballs themselves had no seasoning or flavor. My husband got the caesar salad with chicken, and he was not a huge fan. It was way too heavily dressed that the salad leaves were almost wilty, and the chicken that was in the salad was cut in huge pieces - not easily eaten without sawing at the huge bits. So the food was not the star at this visit (except for the side of French onion soup), but the service and atmosphere were still great. I would return to Stokin' Goat but maybe choose some other items next time, when I can eat more substantial food.

The Westroads/Flagship Commons spot had none of that charm and service. It is very much a food court vibe for the exact same price that you'd pay at the actual restaurant. When we visited during holiday shopping recently, there was maybe one table seated in their little dining area. We thought we'd save everyone a trip and order at the front, which it appeared you could do. We asked two girls behind the counter if we could just choose a table in their (basically completely empty) seating area to wait for our food. And they said that you're not allowed to sit in this area (even if it's completely empty) if you didn't sit down in that area to have a server take your order. I've never hear of such an asinine policy in my life. I'm paying the same amount (and tipping the same), but I'm not allowed to sit in your dining area because I saved someone a trip and order myself at the front counter? What in the absolute world?? So we took our food and ate it in the communal area of Flagship Commons, which I'm not above doing or anything - I was just very annoyed by the Blatt seating policy (if you couldn't tell yet!) The food was also not on par here than with their brick and mortar locations. Maybe because they don't have as large of a kitchen to make everything from scratch or something, but again - paying the same as at the physical location in Legacy for lesser quality food. Is there a convenience of having this version of Blatt right in the little food court at the mall? I guess, but it's not worth it to me after this experience.

She's hyper confrontational and thinks it's amusing to provoke conflict. She thinks because she works at a casino she's untouchable because they have guaranteed customers. If you ever go to Iowa and people tell you, "This place has great pizza," please remind yourself that Iowa is great for a few things (primarily steakhouses, methheads, and tornados), but pizza isn't one of them. I took this local advice and got the pizza at JB's. If you know pizza, then as you can see from the picture, it's not very appetizing. I struggled to eat the first slice, ate half of the second, and then decided to give away the rest. I figured that would be easy due to 'amazing' pizza but it wasn't. I went up to five people before the sixth person couldn't believe I was giving him a pizza. The Turkey sandwich tasted like something you would pack for a climb up Mt. Washington in NH so you could eat it at the peak. The good news: This place is really an amazing bakery that also serves food. If you're looking for baked goods, go here! I was very impressed. The service was also pretty good. It depended who was working but it's the Midwest and you will mostly find kindness. And while you might find great food in some places in Iowa, it will not be found in Council Bluffs. Even traveling poker dealers say this often (good stop but terrible for food). I'll be posting some food reviews in near future as it's a way of reliving adventures I lived in the poker world for years. In fact, I have very likely lived a more adventurous life than any breathing poker player over the past six years. It had its costs but would I change anything? Hell no! Also, I don't know what the next chapter will be, but it will also involve adventure. I got a little off-topic there. I have written entire books about these adventures and I have no plans on writing any books for years so I might be adding little tidbits here and there on Yelp.
