Flippin' Pizza's main selling point is that it is a *REAL* Pizza Place. The guy taking your order is going to be the guy who spins your pizza, who adds the toppings, cooks the pizza, and then walks to out to our table. They're set-up in an exhibitionist manner, so you can clearly see him creating your pizza from absolute scratch, which was really cool. They have a giant kiln, which was also in the front--and it was interesting to see the tools they used and a manner in which they ran about creating everything. I got a vegan-friendly Pizza. Went to this place for lunch and they were fast and friendly. If you like the thin crust NY style pizza, this is your place. The varieties at lunch are limited but if enough people are eating pizza you can call ahead and make a pie order. We tried the pizza, garlic knots, and meatball calzone. All was fresh and delicious. Friendly staff and decent store vibe. Parking is a bit of problem because they share a lot with Home Depot. But if you plan your arrival for just before lunch you will easily have a spot. I have tried the pizza here twice, and both times were a disappointment. The first time in the Fall of 2023, we got single slices. They were lukewarm and soggy, and had been under the heat lamp for hours. It tasted like cardboard. It was BAD. We thought it was just because it was an off night and we decided to give it another try this past week. This time, we made a custom pizza. (Pepperoni and garlic.) The staff was very nice, and it was ready fairly fast. We live 5 minutes away, and by the time I got home with the pizza, it was very cold. It also had a bad wet dog smell to it. Even after reheating it, it tasted like it was very undercooked, the crust was chewy and the pepperoni was undercooked. If you really like garlic, expect A LOT on your pizza if you choose that as a topping. It was dispersed very unevenly and had WAY too much. I don't know what has changed, if its the recipes or ownership, but my boyfriend used to LOVE their pizza, but also agrees it's bad now. My daughter loves Flippin' Pizza. It's her absolute favorite. So when our location in San Marcos closed, I took her to this location on her sixth birthday. The pizza was great but not the service. That's the reason for the three stars. I ordered pizza and garlic knots. We received the pizza and ate it before we got our knots. I asked about them and they threw them in the oven right then. As I'm waiting, they take the knots out of the oven and give them to someone else. :( I asked again and they threw more in the oven. We brought 8 other people with us for the birthday pizza and were bummed that this was their experience, let alone my birthday girl's. Flippin' is some of my favorite pizza in North County. I really like that you can get it by the slice. Their whole pies are good too. I enjoy the thin, crispy crust. The other offerings (salads and knots) are not much to brag about so if you're going to Flippin', get the pizza. Get some brew too, as their beer selection is pretty good. They used to have a decent variety of microbrews but now they have an exclusive agreement with Karl Strauss. My grog of choice at Flippin' used to be Fat Tire but I'm fine with throwing back a Red Trolley or Amber Lager. I'm a Coca-Cola fan so I'm disappointed that they carry Pepsi. Ohh, I'd be remiss to not mention the "dining in" experience at Flippin'. In my opinion, their seating sucks at most of their locations. Their built in bench seating is way too tall for the average adult. I'm only 5'7" but I can't sit there comfortably. Maybe it was designed for kids? . . . I can kind of see a whole table of little "leaguers" at Flippin'. If you're dining in, I'd recommend a free standing table. read more

I say more New Haven style than NYC style because the best of the best NYC pizza is flipsy super thin and it demands a fold to eat it well. This had a thicker crust with a chew and crunch to it that is similar to New Haven style to me (but with a rounder crust) I would like this more if there was some more flavor to the crust really. A little garlic or something, hm?? Still it had a good flavor. I loved the pepperoni. The mushrooms were laid on kinda miserly, for sure. The garlic knots were pretty lame. Not very garlicy at all. I liked their crunch though. Why did they serve it with super cold marinara? What's up with that? I like it room temp or warm or somethin'. So this doesn't satisfy my desire for NYC pizza or New Haven Pizza but it was pretty good. If I can get them to sprinkle on some garlic on the edge I'll order a whole pie and my boyfriend and I will eat it with salads for several days (they're massive pies). All in all this is really good for California pizza as far as I can tell. For those who are curious about New Haven Pizza google it and there's two locations down in San Diego and it might be worth a drive. I'm for sure gonna try it. But in the meantime Flippin Pizza has some good offerings. They also have a good deal on 2 slices and a drink. I think it's $6. And they have a good variety to choose from. Wow, just wow. I am a pure blooded, Long Island New Yorker and this joint used to be my favorite place to grab a slice. But let me tell you, this place has gone to... My wife and I used to order pizza from here every Friday night, and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that I will NEVER, give a dime to this "establishment" again nor will I recommend it to anyone I know. In fact, the only recommendation I can give is a warning. The last THREE times I have ordered delivery, I have been beyond disappointed by the quality of the "pizza" and service. It is a shame that a once local treasure has festered into a sore upon this community. Picked up a couple of slices today, was not impressed. Variety available at lunch was limited and toppings were sparse. This used to be the best NY pizza in the Carlsbad/Vista area in my opinion. It's gone downhill over the past year or so, sometimes burnt crust, sometimes limited slices for lunch, and they seem to be cutting back on toppings. The crust seems thinner too. This place used to be awesome, so fun to grab a slice of pizza and chill inside or out on the patio, so welcoming. The vibe has now completely changed. The new crew is intense and indifferent. A couple of the original employees are still around, and they're cool, but unfortunately they can't make up for all the downers. One lady in particular is extremely intimidating, short, and rude. She typically works the cash register, never smiles or says thank you. We have even seen her berate the employees in front of customers. Very uncomfortable. That, in and by itself was not the offensive part.
