Float has been one of my favorite places to go in Galveston. Tonight... started great but ended badly. The AM bartenders were great but when the evening staff came on, it went to hell. The female bartender would look at me and several other guests in the pool then turn her head like we weren't there. Jack, started off great, but then I noticed he started to ignore me for other guests.... female guests. I've been a bartender for 28 years and I have never ignored a guest for 20 minutes while waiting on other guests. And no, it wasn't busy at all. Even when he finished with the two females that came to the bar after I arrived, and I said his name, I was ignored. My budget was to spend $200-$300 at Float tonight. I ended up spending $60 because I was ignored by the pm staff. I'm not sure I'll be back nor will I recommend them to my cruising friends. read more

5 stars for the view and location alone! Stopped here for lunch and it was perfect. If it's not too hot while your visiting would definitely recommend hitting up the top deck the overlooks the beach and pier. Got a few drinks and some food, the wings an buffalo chicken sandwich where delicious! There was the swim up bar which is pretty sweet, we didn't want to be the first ones in but looked like people where in it when we passed by later on. If you care about COVID 19 RUN AWAY FROM HERE. They seem to be operating at 50-75% capacity. The bartenders ARE NOT sanitizing their hands nor the bar very well. The kitchen staff IS NOT wearing masks. Barely social distancing the guests. The food is good and the drinks are reasonable. I won't be back. If you don't care about COVID 19 you're good. read more

So this place is so cool to go to! It is right off the beach and you can order from the pool. The view is great from the tall balcony. I feel they needed another waitor. Our waitor was excellent but she was overworked! She did a great job but I think our service was slower bc she had to put 3 tables orders in at the same time. Absolutely loved this place! We just moved to College Station and wanted to check out Galveston. We were able to grab a table with a view and it was fun for my kids (7&9) to dip their feet in the pool. The happy hour prices were great and the blended marg was super good. I saw a bunch of ladies ordering a coffee shot so I tried that and it was amazing. The fish tacos made 3 wars were some of the best I've ever had (I order that dish everywhere I go). All of our food was really good. Reasonable prices and great service. Can't wait to come back. read more

I was disappointed to see that the doorman lacked compassion and told a customer who is fighting cancer that the mask he was wearing to protect himself from germs was offending other customers. When this person informed him that he had cancer there was no apology. I feel that this is a terrible representation of the way the staff has usually treated customers in my previous visits. This establishment also frequently has bikini contests where the women involved are practically nude, however, the man with a mask covering his nose and mouth is of greater concern. They had good affordable drinks. There was nice and friendly wait staff. The overlook to the beach and the pier was amazing, we sat there and watched the sunset and it was beautiful and breezy even in the middle of summer. I also enjoyed the laid back vibe of the open pool and the other patrons. read more

Let me start by saying 3 words - Amazing shrimp burritos! The burritos are a very generous size. In fact all 4 adults whom I ate with, brought home leftovers ( 3 of us ordered a burrito). The food was very affordable as were their alcoholic beverages. The decor was bright and the restaurant overlooks the ocean. You can see pleasure pier right outside. Outdoors there is a, wait for it, POOL! Yes, that's right, a pool! Surrounding the pool are tables where you can enjoy a bite to eat while feeling like you're actually on the beach! There's even a top deck furnished with tables and chairs. The weather wasn't the best when we went so we opted to sit inside but I plan on visiting again and grabbing a table out on the second story deck. I'm sure this could become a regular spot for my husband and me!! read more

I have visited this bar at least 3 times now. Pool is filthy, day or night, you can smell the filthy water across all tables. I went in because my boyfriend insisted. It gave me skin infection, that I am fighting for 1 week. God hope it is not herpes or some yeast. Very dissatisfied with this bar/restaurant/pub whatever it is.. Was really looking forward to coming here. This is only my second time to Houston and driving by that place the first time I was here, I decided I had to try it. Unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to try the food or the drinks. It was extremely slow, even in the bar, maybe half the tables were taken if that and the workers constantly walked past slowly but disregarded us every time. They were even serving the people sitting next to us and clearing their dishes etc but didn't even ask us to hold on or anything. I went upstairs as instructed by the bar and waited over a half an hour for anyone to stop by our table. Shortly after the half hour mark we decided to leave since no servers or anyone working there stopped by to take our food or drink order. Really disappointed because I really thought I would like it. Pleasantly surprised by this little spot. We were actually on our way to another restaurant but thought the float looked a little more "lively." Seating was non existent indoors with the only option being on the upper deck. The only thing that bothered me a bit is that the menus aren't readily available upon seating... but maybe I was slightly hangry. Nevertheless the food came out pretty quickly once we ordered and was actually very good. We had the shrimp tacos, bacon cheese burger, and fries plus three drinks all for $40. I tried this concoction of Red Bull with a variety of liquor mixed in, but the killer part about it is the drink is mixed in the can. Think college days with a beer shotgun but far far more dangerous and guaranteed to get you really toasty. I also tried the mango kisses which was sweet but definitely got the job done.There's a little pool in the middle of the outside deck which made for some pretty interesting entertainment I'll definitely be returning to the float the next time we're in Galveston. read more

My update is that they have the absolute best fish tacos on the island, 3 fantastic loaded up fish tacos with beans and rice for 6.99! All the time! U cannot beat this! U can get them 3 different ways too....oh man....all 3 are amazing....too hard to choose what is the best! Wish u could have one of each! But since u cannot....we order 3 different and swap em all out! I still stand by my original review....I will not eat here....I pick em up to go Everytime! What a shame. read more

In my opinion this place is the most fun and bang for the buck on the island. I had 5 tacos, shrimp, steak, chicken, and fish, prepaired in various ways.. 3 margaritas and a Caribou Lou for under $20. They also have the best burgers I've ever had in my life consistently. Cocktails are priced for fishes, and specials consist of $1 domestic drafts... DRAFTS.. It's a place that is realistic and knows how to get you to happily invite them deep into your pockets. Even a rare bad service experience will leave you satisfied in the end with its pricing and quality of food. This place is a guarantee if that's what you are in search for. After visiting the Float, I realized I need to take more trips to Galveston! The food was affordable. The drinks and ambiance fits perfectly with the essence of Galveston. When you walk in, you feel the sense of carefree lifestyle and just everyone having a good time. People in their bathing suit sippin on a cold drink by the pool. It seemed like someone's backyard party and not a bar. I actually don't recall the exact name of the burrito we ordered but just that it was delish. Maybe the fact that I don't remember is a thumbs-up for the bar. And of course there is a pool in the back, if you are ready to dive back in the water and don't want to walk across the street! The Float is definately a bar and a pool and a smoothie place and a restaurant. Well, damn, how's that for variety. This place is actually a cool concept. It's on the beach, yet there is a pool and bar stools all around. A few tvs inside to watch sporting events and CHEAP ASS BEER. 50 cent beers on wed nights are sure to bring out the college kids in droves. The margaritas are also out of this world. It takes forever to get drinks in this place though so you might wanna order two and just double fist so you don't get annoyed by waiting so long. There are plenty of good looking girls around the float bar, but also beware of the strangelings that inhabit galveston as well. A little bit of everyone comes out in this place. However, its a fun place to get a lil rowdy with the boys if you need a guys night out on the cheap. It's cool to catch some sun, a tan, and a margarita although after swimming in the pool, I had to stop and think about how many times some college kid has probably puked in that thing. Oh well, alcohol can be used to sterilize, right? If you dislike your liver, the float is probably a good place to hang out because you can do some serious damage with minimal dents to your wallet. read more

Went in on a Sunday horrible service I must say. Acted like we were bothering for drink orders and to watch basketball instead of bowling.Oh my so we ended up leaving and going to brickhouse down the road and had wonderful service. I have been to the spot before this a few times and the food is not horrible in the past Ive had the fish tacos and sat out by the pool on the back deck and looked out onto the Gulf. I did not get in the pool and cant say Im dying to get in it either. Great spot and idea but horrible service. Parking is not great so you will be looking for awhile also. read more

Went for a mid day snack and the food was alright. Nothing spectacular. The tacos were put together pretty weak, and since they were corn tortillas they definitely should have been double wrapped. BUT Went back later for 50 cent beers.... YUCK what a trainwreck. My mistake for even going, but the trashy crowd that was attracted by the cheap beers was truly a sight to behold. Great location!! Horrible service at the bar. The bartenders ignore patrons sitting at the bar, they are very impersonal, don't introduce themselves, take forever to refill drinks after asking several times. You have to almost yell at them to get their attention. The tables outside get great service. The food was mediocre, wings were cold and tasted undercooked. If you are looking for a casual place to grab a beer with a nice view of the beach, Float Bar is a pretty good option. They offer the basic liquor selection and beer options. If you are sitting outside, there are servers that walk around but the service has been pretty slow each time we have visited. The pool inside has a small swim up bar which is unique to similar bars in the area. If you go for anything at all, there is definitely some quality people watching if you visit on a crowded day. read more

The barstaff was friendly and bought us a shot. The crowd was a bit young and made this 29 year old feel old. The music on the juke was killer though. We went on Christmas Eve so it was too cold to swim. I am not sure that I fully am on board with the idea of swimming in a pool bar though anyways. I know chlorine is supposed to kill pee germs, but I still am not cool with the thought. I would definitely return to Float Bar again someday. Good times! read more
