I really love the concept of the pool bar. Wish I had my swim top and shorts. The pool is great, the bar is great, the drinks are 8/10. The only downfall is the music. For a very great spot next to the shore, it should have some upbeat modern music, but unfortunately it is depressing, and killing the mood for a good time. The restrooms need to be serviced more regularly. I would definitely come visit again, if the music was more upbeat. read more

This place is awesome!! We went there before dinner time on a Sunday just to stop by and got the cheese quesadilla, fried pickles, and margaritas. All were SO GOOD! I've been eating here for about three years now, I think it's a great great place to go for a nice weekend lunch, food is great, great messy nachos, the employees are nice and very proactive throughout the restaurant ours. But just recently the owner of the restaurant has decided to turn the music up very loud, this can very irritating. I am not usually a person who complains about small things such as music but when it's that loud I can't enjoy a meal with my family. But like I said the food is great, service is great. read more

The service has been the best - Anna, Courtney, Natasha and Ben the bar-back checked on us constantly and all 4 staff made sure we were well taken care of. I just came to check out the swim up bar and really didn't have high expectations for the food but boy was I wrong! I had a bite of my boyfriends fish tacos and it was the best fish taco I've ever had in my 21 years of existence. I ordered the nachos with steak for the meat and it was amazing. The steak was so juicy and succulent! We didn't even go in the swim up bar because it was over crowded with kids, fat people, and old people....not that I have anything against kids, fat people, and old people but I just don't like it when theres a lot of them in a small area like that. Also thought it was strange they allowed kids but whatever. Who doesn't love a bar on the beach? I've only been once since I live in Austin, but last time I visited home my sister brought me here. Cheap beer and a chill crowd. Nobody seemed to mind our loud, rowdy group of 15+ people. Sister comes here all the time and I can see why a 21 year old in Galveston would be a regular. Great place to go for drinks or food! I did not have any problems about the service or food! I went there to times with in the 2 days of my vacation. The issue I have is the parking situation there. My first visit was at night time around 11pm I parked on the left side of the bar. There was employee putting on wrist bracelets to get in. I asked him if that was okay and he said it was all good. There was also two cars parked on both sides also. Nothing happed that night we went in and had a great time. The next time was around 3pm the next day. Luckily I got the exact same spot with two trucks on each sides as well. I received a $75 dollar ticket this time though. To be safe I took pictures of where I was parked and the near by spot. There isn't any signs that say I can not park there. Also that spot is considered a sidewalk according the city of Galveston! So no one was apparently allowed to park there. The only issue I really had was there was no signage about no parking also I was told it was an okay place to park. I ended having to pay this ticket for $75 which I did think was right but there was no arguing with the police officer. If you are not using this place for guest to park please repaint the red line and get some signs up about no parking. Place is wonderful other wise and encourage to give it a try!!! read more

Excellent food, decent prices (3 grouper tacos = ~$10, shrimp burrito = ~9), great location. The new balcony is pretty cool. I can't wait for the summer when it'll be nice enough to spend a happy hour there without bundling up. One thing: I'm not sure I don't trust getting in the pool. Delightful surprise. Not familiar with Galveston, we (2 peeps) stopped here since it was the first place we passed after cruising on a bike surrey on the sea wall. Great prices on the drinks and eats. Limited menu - its a bar... :) I was already a bit tipsy half way through my 'pool shark'. Fries and wings were super yum. Next time I'm trying the $3 hamburger! I have been coming to floats ever since I have been coming to Galveston about 5 years ago! The place is amazing and has a great beach vibe. The swim up pool/bar makes it that much better, bringing in people of all ages to the location to enjoy it! They recently added a top deck around the pool that looks very nice and allows more people to be on the patio area. The food and drinks are incredibly affordable. I personally LOVE their burritos - they are not your typical burrito you would get from a chain place. They also do $8 pitchers of beer which I think is a steal! The wait staff has always been especially friendly and it never takes too long to get food. While they did not appear to be busy, if they were I could have been a little more understanding but our waitress didn't communicate any kind of delay at all. Visited this establishment on Memorial Day & my experience was HORRIBLE! Ordered 2 drinks. The first time I was poured correctly. The second time I ordered it was not poured correctly. I explained the issue to my weightier & sent the drink back. A weightless who wasn't serving our table walked up & told my entire table that we were rude and difficult. Who'd does that?? Went in yesterday during the Mardi Gras stuff. We were lucky enough to get a seat upstairs. Great view of everything Galveston has to offer, which unfortunately isn't much. Despite the fact that Galveston is lacking in a destination the float is a pretty cool place. They have a swimming pool inside the bar area which was new to me. Had it been warmer it could have been an awesome feature but I'll reserve judgement until I'm there on a warmer day. We didn't eat and just ordered a pitcher. Prices were pretty fair, I definitely did not feel like I was ripped off. Not sure if it would be worth it if we weren't able to sit on the upper balcony. Overall a decent place but nothing spectacular. read more

The best word for Float is... Interesting. I mean the sign advertises a pool and smoothies. And I saw some children in there, but there is no question that it is definitely a bar. Smoking, Drinking & obscenely labeled drinks. Not children friendly by any means, but who am I to judge. That being said I had a blast here. The frozen margarita's were better than most even though they were not completely frozen yet, it just made them easier to slurp down. 1/2 of Float is an open air cabana sort of bar and the other 1/2 is a pool with one side attached to the bar. Great for a drink if you've been on the beach. Better than average bar food. Monday's are buy 1 get 1 free burritos and they are tasty. Wednesday is college night and they serve $0.50 beers which I think why Wednesday's at Float were nick-named DUI night. I like Float sometimes during the day, all of the bartenders are great, but sometimes at night this 33 year old (who still likes to party) feels just a tad old when going there to drink at night. If you're under 27, hit it up, but those who are 30 somethings might want to walk across the street to Beerfoot for a slightly more mature crowd. Get in their pool? They have a giant pool for everyone to hang out in and people were fornicating in the pool in front of everyone and the staff just turned their heads and didn't stop it from happening. Tourists beware!!!!!!!! I live on the island year round. I used to love coming to float especially in the winter when nobody was there so we would get served quickly. I visited float for the first time this summer and was shocked to see how much smaller they had made the burgers. The burger was half the size it used to be in the winter (likely changed to serve more people with less meat and make more money) THE BURGER WAS TINY. Wish I could've taken a picture before but I finished it in 4 bites. I was also disappointed to see they also changed from their amazing special fries to normal fries that were bland and soggy. The place was packed (I get it it's summer) with no where to sit and music was blaring the entire time. I couldn't even hear the person sitting across the table. My friends and I used to come to float every week during the off season. We were all so surprised how many changes had been made so that float could just make more money and overcharge the tourists for less food than they usually serve. If you go through the other reviews on yelp you can see the positive ones are all during the off season before June. If you want to come here definitely stay aware during the summer months We will definitely take our service elsewhere. Any suggestions for our next burger spot? :) read more

People, this is not a place for children. I can't stress that enough. Do not bring your kids. I go there to get hammered and so does everyone i know. I have kids and would never bring them within 100 feet of the float. I've been going since opening day and have made a lot of great memories. The carabooloo is a dangerously good drink. Have only two unless you're an extreme alcoholic and have a high tolerance. The staff is okay most days. The pool is nasty. Nobody gets out to pee. Ewww. But as gross as that is...i have gotten in after a few drinks. Over all its a fun place. read more
