Love going to this place when I visit the pier. The burgers are amazing and highly recommend. Drinks are cheap with the most expensive one being about 7 dollars. The view is great. The only thing that sucks is that the tables are small. You. can seat maybe 5 people per table. The way the restaurant is set up makes it impossible for tables to be put together. --------- I came back after a couple of years and this place is just as good as I remember it. Wow! What a fun place! We sat upstairs first, took photos, and enjoyed the view, then moved downstairs. Our drinks were great - mimosas, beach babe, and sexy silky passion. Ok, sitting in the pool and having drinks was great, and customer service from bar was good. As long as we asked for attention. After spending a few hours in the pool, decided to have dinner. That was a mistake. Ordered the fried shrimp platter. Oh my. How bad that was is hard to describe. Try to imagine a hardshell of fried batter over a tough rubbery and chemical tasting thing out of a freezer and called a shrimp. Holy crap guys, this is not where you cut corners. Even the Spot down the street has 100 times better shrimp. If you're not going to have better quality, please remove from the menu. A fun afternoon but no place to eat. Review update. I don't usually update and revise... The kitchen manager hear about my experience with the meal and was very concerned. After listening to me, they promptly compensated without my request. Super cute place.. pool outside with a bar right off of the seawall. We came in starving for a small bite to eat after enjoying pleasure pier. We ordered the chicken tender basket and the chips and salsa. Chips and salsa were less than mediocre but the chicken tender basket saved the day! I loved it! Stopped in for lunch after disembarking from our cruise. We wanted to eat before hitting the road home... We ordered the fried pickles, shrimp platter and 3 tacos. The pickles were served hot and fresh but were also a bit salty? The shrimp was a good portion and tasted ok, nothing impressive or memorable. I ordered a beer and it took a good while to finally get. I didn't taste the tacos. Neither of us loved it enough to finish our meals even though we were both very hungry. The service was not very fast, but the waitress was very nice, knowledgeable, and gave us suggestions. The place was clean and the windows were open with a nice view of the beach/sea wall. I was questioning the mayo sitting out in the sun all day though... I don't think I'd go back because overall I wasn't impressed by the food or the service. read more

Went for happy hour and sat on high tops in the pool area. Ordered chicken flautas. Six dollars for two! Ordered two strawberry margaritas. We decided to leave and not stay for the all you can eat shrimp. Why? The service was unimpressive. Overcharged for the margaritas. Took two managers to fix a simple mistake. The ambiance was awful. Very very late review but here it is! It's a nice little bar. It gets pretty crowded like massively crowded. We did not end up going in the pool. We were able to get some drinks tho. This place has a small pool you can sit in while getting drunk, so that's cool. On the flip side, the queso was quite mediocre. I'm pretty sure it was Rico's Gourmet Nacho Cheese Sauce. That's the stuff they pour on your tortilla chips at the concession stand when you're attending a local little league baseball game. What a great place to hang out in Galveston! This is a totally laid back beach dive bar. Open air, small swimming pool with swim up bar, indoor / outdoor / patio searing on two levels. Prices are more than reasonable, especially for a tourist location. Extreme "local" feel. I had wings and a pitcher of beer, ten dollar special on our NFL Sunday visit. The beer was cold and refreshing, the wings were standard buffalo wings prepared perfectly. These would run ten bucks each in most bars, and wouldn't be any better. Football was playing on multiple tvs. Service was fast and friendly. Nothing fancy here, just a great beach bar...although across the street from the actual beach! We'll definitely visit again on this trip to Galveston and future trips. read more

I was down on the island for the first weekend that Texas had reopened its restaurants and fun hot spots, so I decided to try this place I had never been to. Right along the seawall, it offers upstairs seating with a view of the Gulf, or down by the pool where you can enjoy a drink as long as you got your swimsuit. (no children in the pool after 2 PM, though) I decided to take a view of the Gulf of Mexico and sit upstairs. My umbrella didn't work, unfortunately, but I didn't really harp on that. I tried a mosquito mojito, which is a rum drink made with mint. I liked this drink, but I really think it could've been spiced up a little more to taste "rummier" than usual if that's understandable. However, my second drink was a beach babe, which is another rum drink made from tropical pineapple juice. I think I'll come back for this one myself! They do have food here, but I only got an appetizer of the fried pickles. They were a little too overcooked for my taste, but I'm sure they have several good entrée choices aside from that. If I have a group of friends, I think the main entrée portions are imminent. However, this is a great atmosphere to enjoy a hot day in the pool, or just observe some nice views of the Galveston seawall. read more

I love this bar! Sitting at the top level with food and a drink is amazing! The beach view is perfect! The food is wonderful! We had the nachos with fish. Grilled blackened fish and more than we could expect. The fried pickles were so good. The server was sweet but surely not in a rush. As soon as me and my roommates came in. We felt the tension right away. No one came to our table so we went to the bar and waited 20 mins before I finally got an old bald white guy's attention. He was extremely rude to us, he would cut us off and wouldn't let us order shots and a drink with it and said we "couldn't do that" but let the straight couple in the pool order two sets of shots for them. My mai tai was just basically orange juice. And he didn't even hand me my drink he just sat it down on his side of the bar and looked at me like I had the problem bc I couldn't reach. No one came to our table but we watched everyone else's tables be attended to. My other roommate went to the bar to try to order a drink and waited another 15 mins and after the girl took his order she proceeded to take 6 other orders and make their drinks first. So if your white and straight you would love this bar bc they give their best service to them but if you are gay and POC......Good fucking luck here. A friend told me about this place a few months ago and when it came time for my Summer staycation, I decided this would be one of the places to check out on a day trip to G-town. I was advised by said friend to show up sometime between 11:00am-12:00pm and have one drink in the pool before it got busy. I ended up having more than one drink, staying for a few hours, and chatting up with a few regulars. I really didn't expect to have such a good time. They serve food, we didn't try any. It looked like mostly nachos and burgers. We were all about the frozen drinks. First I had a nice strong hurricane. When that drink was about done, I started noticing everyone holding this bright green frozen beverage. The bartender said it was called "Swampwater" and it was the most popular drink they had. I don't know what it was exactly, but it tasted a bit like sour apple and gave me a serious case of the sillies. I started enjoying myself even more. There are plenty of bar stools and tables surrounding the pool so you can take a break and enjoy your food or a drink. They even have tables directly facing the ocean, or you can just enjoy that view right from the pool. They also have an indoor bar and seating area if you're not about getting into the pool. The music mix playing that day was straight up comical (from James Brown to Bob Marley to Tobey Keith) but the Swampwater didn't have this music snob caring that much. Also, I may or may not have engaged in a singalong of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" with a pool full of rednecks. Hey, when in Galveston, do as the locals do, right? I hear at night they have a regular DJ playing house music. I had ridic fun. I am already planning on taking a friend visiting from NYC (for the lulz!). read more

Been here a few times and it's probably the best pool bar in Galveston. Everything on the menu is really good and the price is very reasonable. If you are trying to have a good time, the music sucks! You have to buy the he music on a jukebox and someone monitoring the music and will skip your music once it starts playing. They basically only play old rock music. So if you like that, then this is the place for you. If they would invest in a DJ for the day, the atmosphere would be 100 times better. Just my opinion! read more

Well, it's one of the only places on the Seawall that passed their health inspection, and not very high at that. So not wanting to completely take my life in my own hands, we made this our first stop in Galveston. This was a mistake. We wanted to simply share a taco plate. It has three tacos, rice and beans. We wanted to make two tacos chicken, and one taco fish, as one of us was pescatarian. No can do. Ok, can we just order one single side taco? No can do. When we received this news, we truly should have just walked out, as the waitress was growing impatient and rude. Maybe I'm spoiled in Dallas from being able to mix and match tacos wherever I please, but that's not the case here at Float. So we decided to just go all chicken. The waitress told us "it has more flavor than the fish anyways." Well if that was true than I would hate to try the fish because the chicken was almost flavorless. They had what they called "cilantro ranch" on them, which was basically just green mayo. In addition, the tortillas were totally dried out and rubbery. We just picked at our food and left the tortillas there to die. You would think that the waitress would have picked up on this and maybe asked if we wanted something else. You would think. In addition, almost all the tables are wobbly and uneven. They use old coasters and dirty napkins to try and make it better, but it does not help much. They get one extra star for ambiance, and because we didn't get sick here. They have a nice pool that we didn't visit, but looked fun. They also had all the windows open to let in a breeze that allowed us to look at the ocean. Not the best "Welcome" to Galveston we could have received. read more

On a drive to Galveston just for the sake of checking out the scenery around Houston (visiting from California/Australia), we popped into this bar to check on the football score... Loved it!! There's a pool outside (that comes right up to the bar for in-pool service!) and a great wrap-around deck for chilling out in the sun. Inside is laid back and beachy... and drinks/food looked decent. It was January when I was there, so while it was balmy and pleasant it wasn't really swimming weather. I imagine it would get pretty crazy there during summer. It's not my usual scene and I got the impression the crowd is pretty young and borderline spring-breaky... but it was a great and totally unexpected find for a couple of travelers who'd never heard that there's a surfie culture in Texas! read more

Understanding that this is a bar so sticky floors and some trash here and there is part of the charm, it's a decent place to chill on the weekend. The views and breeze from the deck is exactly what you want when you come to the beach. The pool is what it is. Random but hearing that the synchronized swimming and belly flops are coming up, is very promising form of entertainment. I mean if you don't give a damn, jump in and go with it. I tried the burger and it was actually pretty good. Well seasoned, well cooked and $3. Would be nice if draft beers were always happy hour priced...this is Galveston after all. (Oh a local said a pitcher of Bud Light is only $7. Two 12oz of the local Karbach was like two bucks more than that. Been goin here for years!! Love the place and the people. Definite Gtown feel. Laid back and relaxed. They have food now...its all good. Build your own burritoes and teh deep fried jalapeno slices are my usual. Cheap drinks and a pool on the seawall. Pool is about 2-3 feet deep. Dont expect it to be overly clean..or the place to be high class. Its for real folk. Lots of lawn chairs for laying out, tables for eating, and swim up bar with stools. Float has been one of my favorite places to go in Galveston. Tonight... started great but ended badly. The AM bartenders were great but when the evening staff came on, it went to hell. The female bartender would look at me and several other guests in the pool then turn her head like we weren't there. Jack, started off great, but then I noticed he started to ignore me for other guests.... female guests. I've been a bartender for 28 years and I have never ignored a guest for 20 minutes while waiting on other guests. And no, it wasn't busy at all. Even when he finished with the two females that came to the bar after I arrived, and I said his name, I was ignored. My budget was to spend $200-$300 at Float tonight. I ended up spending $60 because I was ignored by the pm staff. I'm not sure I'll be back nor will I recommend them to my cruising friends. read more
