I just floated yesterday for my first time and it was amazing! I was given a 3 session pack for my birthday and finally booked a float. The staff was so helpful over the phone while I booked. My boyfriend came to try floating as well. We were greeted warmly and were shown around the studio then how things work. The tank was nice and I didn't feel claustrophobic at all. The only down side for me was the air was a bit too warm while I floated. I did have to crack the tank door open a bit but after that it was perfect. The place was easy to find and we got parking close. Since they don't have designated parking if you go during peak time parking might be a bit hard to get close to the shop. They only have four tanks so I've seen their schedule online booked up days in advance so its something to think about when you book. All in all my boyfriend and I had a great experience. read more

Today was my Husband's Birthday so I thought I would give him a new experience and have us try Seattle Float. Since we were what people call "Float Virgins", it would be new to both of us. Besides, with us both being totally Blind, we thought it would be interesting to see what it would be like to be deprived of other senses as well to see how it would be for us. We walked into a nice clean (not Chlorinated) smelling place, and since we were about an hour early, were shown to a very comfy couch where we could wait. The people there were very nice and showed us where everything was and walked us through the procedure. I got into the rather large pod after taking a shower and sat in the warm liquid. At first, I had to figure out how to lay down in it. I never was able to float on my back before because I was bottom heavy and tended to sink. However, because of the high salt content, I was able to float easily and could finally experience what floating on my back was like. I had put in the comfortable foam earplugs they gave me, and the first thing I realized was that this was not exactly "sensory deprivation" in my opinion. For one thing, The earplugs make my own internal noises sound very loud. I felt like I was breathing like Darth Vader, and my heartbeat was very loud. Thank goodness my usually loud stomach noises were quiet for once! If I giggled or made any small sound, it also sounded very loud. Raising my hand and letting the water drip sounded pretty cool as well. The water was comfortable as was the outside temperature in the pod, but I never felt as though I could not feel my arms or legs as other people had reported. In fact, I could feel every tiny unseen scratch or irritation on my skin most of which I never knew I had sting with the salt. After a while, they stopped stinging since the liquid tended to coat your whole body with a thin coating of slime. (A result of the high salt content) Being someone who can never just lie still, I ended up slowly moving every once in a wile, enjoying the sensation of floating. I wondered if it was like this for an unborn baby floating in amniotic fluid. About the only part of my body that didn't relax was my neck, and because I trusted the floating capabilities of the liquid, I was actually able to put both my hands behind my neck and massage it until it relaxed all without worry. The only thing was that I never heard any music at the end of the session, and the only reason I knew it was time to get out was because I heard the shower running in the room next door where my Husband was. For the most part, I really enjoyed my experience. I only wish that there could be a choice as to whether or not you can listen to soothing music or a guided meditation or SOMETHING instead of just my own Darth Vader Breathing and heartbeats. Unfortunately, my Husband who is afraid of drowning, had a hard time trusting and just letting go and relaxing fully. He said he was glad he got to try the experience, but it was not for him. Perhaps next year on his Birthday, we should try jumping out of a plane in a Parachute or Bungee Jump or something. LOL! read more

I have had 2 floats so far, and I'm looking forward to my third! I was a little nervous that I would feel claustrophobic, or have negative thoughts while being in the tank, but instead it was a very comforting and positive experience. I'm very sensitive to temperature, and felt perfectly comfortable the whole time. I let my mind think what it wanted (no negative thoughts came to me), and mostly I just fell silent and enjoyed letting the world outside float away. My second float was easier to unwind in (the hour went by fast and I didn't want to get out), and they are supposed to build off each one, so I'm excited to experience the third. I would like to make it a weekly or bi-weekly thing! I think everyone could benefit from an hour away from the hectic lives we tend to live. The staff is very helpful and walked me through all the steps I needed to know. They provide shampoo and body wash for your shower when you are finished with your float. You may want to bring some conditioner and a comb, though! I'm so happy I discovered Float Seattle! I can't wait to make this a regular thing. read more

I had a great experience, customer service was great, and unlike a previous reviewer I had no trouble at all booking with my coupon. Too be honest, floating in a tank of temperature regulated saltwater should be pretty much the same anywhere, you shouldn't be aware of your surroundings once inside. On this, Float Seattle succeeded. In my mind, the only disadvantage to Float Seattle is a smaller, slightly less hospitable waiting area. Another local float location, has a rather large area to relax before or after, and offers free tea. It's also in a place where people aren't coming or going, a little quieter than Float Seattle. Not a deal-breaker, but as I said the actual float experience should be the same everywhere. However, I still say they come out even due to customer service being friendlier. They still have some benches and a peaceful environment before and after the float. They offered water and made me feel welcome. Although the competition might have a better location, the staff at Float Seattle made me feel more comfortable being here. read more

I've been to several float studios in the Seattle area and this is hands down my favorite float location in Seattle. First thing I like about Float Seattle is the design of the studio, ambiance, and location. Then once you get into one of their float tanks I like how they are actually dark, large, and quiet. All float tanks are not created equal and luckily at Float Seattle the tanks are better than the majority out there. Highly recommend Float Seattle, good place to start floating. read more

Just tried floating for the first time last week and the experience was extremely relaxing and one that I will continue to revisit. The employee working was not only welcoming, but knowledgeable and helpful. I was worried about being claustrophobic but as soon as I entered the tank realized that it would not be an issue. My job demands physical labor every day and I found that floating not only helped my body recover, but also helped alleviate stress on my mind and psyche. First, I intend on ratcheting up or lowering my rating based on the next visit. So, yes, there will be another visit, because the first visit left me curious for more, yet a bit underwhelmed. For the first thirty-to-forty minutes (determining time passage is very difficult twithout the aid of your senses) I felt like I was lying in a hot tub on a dark night. It was comfortable, however, it wasn't cerebral, psychedelic, illuminating, etc., it was limited to the exact peaceful feeling you'd expect to feel floating in warm water, without light, quiet. Yet the last quarter (or perhaps ten minutes) of the experience my brain allowed itself to relax, to float untethered to my body, senses, etc. For brief moments, I was able to introspect clearly on my own issues, like a third-party psychologist analyzing a patient. I realized how "tuned-in" I was only when an appendage would tap the side of the tank and wake me from some kind of half-sleep conscious state. And if my skeptical, non-spiritual brain can get into that space-- a meditative, relaxed trance-- I think anyone can. I'm not saying that floating is magic -- the holy grail of exploring your inner consciosness. I am, however, convinced that this state is easier to attain when one eliminates all distractions-- sight, sound, smell, touch (gravity)-- and is forced to introspect for long periods. Floating, for better or worse, forces you into this position. So why 4 stars? There was very little instruction before the experience. For someone who is feeling anxious about slipping into a large coffin with water, an explanation and overview would have been nice. (e.g., "you'll be feeling this," "try thinking about this," "most people feel this"..). The guy at the front was extremely nice and helpful, but I would have liked a brief overview of floating. Either way, it's very affordable and I've already suggested the experience to several friends and family. read more

As you step through the Float Seattle Staff greats you by name while the humidity wraps around your buddy warming you up for your float. These folks have it all set up for you, you could literally walk over from a picnic at Green Lake and everything you need is there for you at the studios. Great time in the Float! This was my second time floating. The first time, I had a little panic for the first 10-15 mins, but settled right in after that. This second time, I felt myself going somewhere. I won't say where, but it was rather blissful. The service staff has always been wonderfully nice, helpful, and funny. My only complaint which knocked off a star is the song they played while I was finishing the float. It was the same Radiohead song as over a month ago, and a depressing one at that. Love me some Radiohead, but please mix it up! A nitpick, but hey, yelp is made for nitpicking. Looking forward to round 3. read more

5 stars don't do justice! I look forward to every float from here on out. I am so grateful to have a facility like this in my area! The staff are very friendly, compassionate, and purely wonderful. I am a high energy health nut with a punch of go go go. I have tense muscles frequently and deal with a lot of high stress situations in my life and work. I went for a 1 hour float for the first time. It completely reset my life palate and helped me to regain a sense of clarity amongst all the chaos that is life. Even after a week I am still feeling rejuvenated and am eager to get the hell back in there! I am always looking for ways to better my sense of mind, body, and spirit. Took my first float last week, and it was unlike anything I've ever done. Real life escapism is something that is pursued aggressively and yet rarely attainable. At least that's what I thought until I got into the tank. Complete detachment from the world, my cell phone, my email, my social networks. Finally a chance to let my thoughts wander unencumbered, free to just let go. Honestly, as I sit here thinking about and recapping my experience now, I'm ready to book another one! I had a little trepidation before the float, as I didn't really know what to expect. Plus, I have a mild case of claustrophobia. Once I stepped into the float room, I was put at ease at the size of the tank, and I was able to relax in complete comfort. Anyway, I definitely recommend checking out this unique experience. Better than most drugs out there, floating treats both your body and mind in separate therapeutic fashions - I came out with a subtle body high, relaxed posture/joints, and my thoughts were nowhere near as racy as they were going in. The establishment itself has a great balance between professionalism and tranquility - it's not too new-age, and not too stiff either. Ok - this just isn't for me. I really, really disliked my experience at Float. I wanted to go to support my husband's curiosity during his first float so we booked together but ended up getting out after 20 painfully long and frustrating minutes. So let me tell you what went wrong with me... maybe you can learn from it, maybe it'll be helpful who knows. Then I'll tell you why I am giving four stars. I am somewhat afraid of the dark, I am a total germaphobe, I hate getting my hair wet at night, I have a total inability to "turn off" my brain and I've always been uncomfortable laying on my back. These things have nothing to do with "Float".. but really just add up to make this whole thing a challenge for me. I did try, I just couldn't do it. Not to mention the scratch on my back that I didn't know about until the salt water let me know loud and clear. Some advice for those with my same issues and hesitations: Check your body for scratches beforehand and reschedule if you have anything - pain is super distracting when you have nothing else to focus on. Do NOT book the tank with the light in it... I did and it was very distracting... I kept turning it on and off. Also - if you can bear it, go with the smaller tank - the big one actually made me more nervous. I'd rather have been in a little warm womb than the big empty space. As far as the germ thing goes... they do use bromine and apparently filter it out after each person. Just shower off really well afterward, don't drink the water and try to keep your other orifices closed while submerged. Now - 4 stars. Just because I'm the type who *can't* do this, doesn't mean you shouldn't. They have a great little operation here... and you should definitely check it out. Sensory deprivation can be an incredible experience for you... it was certainly incredible for my husband (who said he saw the aurora borealis, felt like his body was bending in half at one point, and came out more relaxed than I've seen him in a long time). As a fan of "industrial chic" interior design, I love their minimalistic aesthetic. The staff are all super warm and approachable - they provide everything you need and put you under absolutely no pressure. After my 20 minute college try I sat on the couch and played candy crush on my phone while I waited for my husband... I expected a little lecture about how great it is for me and that I should have put in more of an effort to enjoy it... but I just got a smile, an understanding nod and a welcome to the table of water while I waited. read more

i've been coming here regularly for a whiles. i like floatin in the tanks. the employees are all very friendly and highly evolved communicators. the vibrations are always tuned in real nice. I normally leave some sort of weird passive aggressive negative experience to even my fivestar reviews on yelp but ill make an exception here, and that one teriyaki place. its 100% all bueno at float seattle. if you have never floated before, this is something i would suggest taking up as a regular practice to attain the full benefits. the first float will leave you feeling good but probably somewhat confused. so will the second float, etc.. the scope of the benefits of floating are fractal in nature and it will take time to understand and integrate these benefits into your day to day life. eventually you will develop your own unique practice within the tank. No one can teach you to float as no man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man. AAA++ would float again. read more

This is a review of the facility rather than a review of floating in general. This was my first time doing this although I've read about it quite a bit and had been looking forward to the experience. Booking was easy online, was able to book in the morning of the day that I wanted to float. No dedicated parking at the facility that I could see, so street parking, which is little tight near Greenlake on this sunny Sunday afternoon. As the confirmation email asked, I arrived early, assuming there would be some sort of paperwork or whatnot (the usual reason places like this ask you to come early.) When I arrived at the front desk and gave my name, the guy there just sort of mumbled "you're early." I waited a few awkward beats to see if he would say something more, such as "have a seat, it will be X minutes," or "please fill out this form," or anything.....nothing. "Should I wait here, or leave and come back?" I ask ( there isn't really much of an obvious waiting area, just a couple of hard benches.) "Whatever you want." Silence. "The confirmation email said I should arrive early, is there some paperwork or something I am supposed to do since I've never been here?" "I am out of forms right now." Silence. I left at that point to sit outside down the block on a nice sunny bench, then came back 5 minutes before appt time. At this point the guy is there with another customer, obviously waiting for me to arrive to start his tour/orientation. You know that feeling that you get when you are at a carnival and the carnies look sort of bored and checked out, feels like they just want to get you in and out, move the meat, and they don't even put on the pretense of caring about your experience (that you're actually paying them for?) That's sort of like the feeling I had with the whole checkin process. Whatever, no big deal. So part of the instructions are that you will hear music at the end signaling you that your time is up. I got in the tank and when everything settled down I kept swearing I was hearing faint music, but there was no way that I had been in for more than a few minutes. This seemed to go on for a long time, and caused me to constantly listen carefully, wondering if I was hallucinating it, wondering if I was going to miss the cue to get out of the tank, etc. I found myself wondering if it was coming from a nearby coffee shop, or someones apartment upstairs, or who knows where. So finally I hear a change in the music, and its a bit louder, and I realize that its the signal. Get up, shower, head out to the desk. Different person at the desk now, who asks "how was it?" I mention that I felt like I was hearing faint music the whole time but not sure if I was hallucinating it or what. She gets a sort of apologetic facial expression and explains that, yes, in fact, there was some sort of mixup when her coworker left and she came on duty and that there was indeed music playing for most of the time I was in the tank. "I tried to extend it for you, but could only extend it 5 minutes....." I mentioned how distracting it was, and the gal did apologize, and I sort of lingered for second to see what else she would say or offer. I mean, I did pay $40 for a sensory deprivation experience that was marred by an error, maybe a discounted follow up visit or something to make up for it? Nothing was offered, and I didn't push it. Oh well. I am still interested in having this experience, but the little details above will have me going to try out the other place in town instead of this one again. read more

I love floating and this is really a lovely place. It is easy to find and on the weekdays the parking is pretty great. Other reviewers have done a great job of the process itself. I feel amazing after a float. I have a friend who is no longer getting massages, only now floats! Do yourself a favor and give it a try. If you are claustrophobic, you can leave a door open. My wife and I went to as part of a spa / stay-cation weekend for the two of us. Neither one of us had floated before, so I don't really have any other 'float spas' to compare it to. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I particularly enjoyed the way the tank helped me to disengage my mind and thoroughly relax...there really isn't anything else to do. I can see this becoming part of my efforts of taking care of my "mental health." What I particularly liked about Float Seattle, aside from the float experience itself, was how clean it was. I'm not a clean freak, but I'll admit I was a bit skeptical about crawling into a tank that someone else had been in right before me. I tried so hard to like this place but was just not super impressed. My best friend loves it, and I like places like Banya5, so totally thought this would be up my alley. The girl who checked us in and gave us the tour was not super friendly. I'd called with questions earlier and talked to a guy who was much more helpful with suggestions and information. The decor is just kind of harsh and not very zen/peaceful like. I was in the Ocean which I guess is the big one and was happy with the tank I got. It was dark so no way for me to know how dirty/clean the inside of the tanks are. When you get there its best to use the bathroom before going into your room. Then in the room you shower, and have to find your way in "almost" darkness to the tank. Highly recommend putting your face towel on the handle of the door in case your face gets splashed. The float itself was nice, relaxing, maybe a bit boring even. Had some mild nausea, but nothing serious. After getting out you make your way in the dark to the shower (hard to find the light switch for the shower), then make your way to your stuff. The floor is a bit wet and so are you and it's very easy to get salt on your clothes. I had called twice before my visit with other questions (since I'm a newbie) and wished someone had mentioned this to me as I would not have worn such nice clothes. I somehow (despite much effort to not get salt on my clothing) got a bunch of salt on my clothes so when I got home I dumped them in the bathtub and washed them out and then did laundry the next day. Their hair dryer was not working, but luckily I had called and asked about it, so I brought my own. Anyways, not a bad experience but not the greatest either. If it weren't so expensive, I'd be willing to give it another shot and see if I like it better the next time, but floating is actually pretty pricey. read more

Responded with "no we don't have that, our blow dryer is also not working. If you would like to go find a salon you can buy a blow dryer" ummmm okay. I was there, the appointment had started, I felt a little silly not keeping my appointment because i didn't want to get my hair wet... Needless to say I went in. (My mistake) After getting out and speaking with the woman that works there she said she noticed hair dye on my towel! And that I am not supposed to float after getting my hair done... -_- seriously! After the fact!? And almost making it seem as if it was my fault for not knowing this info. My 200$ color and gloss down the drain as I literally just got my hair done. A very expensive float to say the least and that pretty much killed the "zen" experience for me. Advice: If you love your hair bring a hair cap. read more

I love Float Seattle.. they are clean, quiet, their water is always really well balanced and the facility is so nice and cozy and did I mention... quiet?!! I've been to four in the Seattle area and this is the best experience by far. I think if I had my first float at one of the other venues I might not have tried it again. The female who assisted us was rude and lacked customer service skills. The shower was cold after only maybe two minutes (you're supposed to shower before and after, and it was cold both times). I'd never floated before, but after my first float here I'm hooked! The staff is super friendly, the private room was really nice and clean (it has shampoo, conditioner, earplugs, a hairdryer, etc- so you really don't have to bring anything like that yourself) and the float itself was extremely relaxing. It's perfectly light- and sound-proof and I've never been so comfortable in my life! They wake you up by playing some nice, quiet music into the tank. Been wanting to float for a long time. It was the first time I experienced pure weightlessness. I had so much energy when I was finished. My body was so relaxed while I floated, nothing had to work. I was a little worried about being claustrophobic but was totally fine. I fell asleep for part of it, and then other part I just meditated. Love this place. I am a member, which covers 1 float per month and discounted floats anytime. There are many different tank options to accommodate folks with different preferences in terms of tank size, lighting, etc. I find the decor very appealing with the cement walls, accented by raw wood and plants. It's a very clean, natural environment, perfect milieu for floating. Staff is super nice and helpful. Every staff member that I have met is a floater herself or himself, so talking with her or him about their floating experiences is very interesting and helpful. read more

Used a Groupon with a friend to try Float Seattle. I loved the very "modern, industrial" look inside. Also, the owner was there that day and explained everything to my friend and I very thoroughly and didn't try to sell us anything like most other float facilities. I chose a pod, my friend chose the room. The pod was very spacious surprisingly. I also loved the large shower and the shampoo smells amazing! I loved how this facility was dead silent. Other places I've tried you could hear people walking around on creaky hardwood floors, or hear doors open and shut. At the end, we were offered a bottle of water or tea. I am contemplating getting a monthly membership. After searching around Seattle for a float facility to use, I think I finally found one. Float Seattle rocks! read more

I never tried floats before going to Float Seattle, and now I'm hooked. The experience itself is amazing -- I've felt so relaxed before and the hour feels like a lot longer when you're able to shut everything out so completely. But the staff really takes it over the top. They're extremely pleasant and helpful, talked me through everything before I got there and when I checked in. The tank area is clean -- though pretty minimalist -- and they provide all the basics: soft, big towels, earplugs, shampoo and body wash. (Tip: bring flip-flops! And conditioner for your hair.) Wasn't sure what to expect my first time, but I had heard from a friend that it was a great experience, so I decided to try it on a whim. Booked and paid online for an appointment later the same day (I doubt I'll get that lucky again as it gets more popular!) When I arrived a little early, Sean was friendly and laid back as he got me checked in, then showed me the basics of what to do and answered my questions before letting me have at it. Shower, get into the tank, close the door and turn off the lights and... just... float. I was surprised at how well you can float-- I seriously was in a state of semi-sleep the entire time, but felt buoyant and comfortable. Definitly take the first 10-15 minutes to experiment with what feels good to your body as you float-- arms above the head, knees bent out, whatever. An hour felt like two at least, and when the music came on to indicate the end of my session, everything felt like jelly. I agree with other posters who said senses were heightened after emerging from the tank. I've only tried the Ocean tank so far, but once you're floating I doubt it matters too much. For my money, this was more relaxing than a massage any day. I've already signed up for a monthly membership and can't wait for my next float. read more
