My goodness I do not have enough positive words to say about Victoria. Her skill, professionalism, and personalization is top notch. I'm session 3 into a 4 part coverup (that is a coverup of a coverup with a couple laser treatments pre beginning the work with her). I could not before excited about how well it's turning out! The moth will definitely need polishing because my skin just isn't up taking the ink due to the previous work I've had done, but it will be phenomenal when it's all said and done. From start to finish, my experience working with Victoria at Floating Lotus Tattoo was stellar. I initially found her website when I was searching for local tattoo artists who were open to using numbing creams. Our initial phone call to set up an in-person consultation was informative and thorough. I gave her the background on the occasion for this tattoo, the general motif I was going for, my previous tattoo experience and my design ideas. She gave me instructions to bring printed images so she could see them in better detail versus looking at them on her phone. Meeting with Victoria for the consult in person was lovely. Her enthusiasm for my project was obvious. She gave me some good suggestions for the final design, the placement, and what elements to save for another tattoo in the future. All of her suggestions were spot on. She gave me clear instructions for applying the numbing cream for our first tattoo session as well advising me to get a good night's sleep, eat well in the morning and avoid coffee in the 6 hours prior to my appointment. Our first session started by reviewing the final design and making a few tweaks; she was very open to my suggestions. Then came laying in the black ink and the gray shading. It took about two hours with a short break at the one hour mark. I had followed her advice to bring some high protein snacks and electrolyte drinks to keep my energy up, which helped a lot. Because I have some extensive sun damage on my forearm (lots of freckling and age spots) and likely some recent unprotected sun exposure, I did get a very small amount of ink blowout in a couple tiny spots. She explained what had caused this and was very reassuring that it could be dealt with once I healed. I followed Victoria's aftercare instructions to a tee and had a good healing experience in the next three weeks. My second session started with a review of the full color design and I was so impressed with her eye for design and balance. It was even more beautiful than I'd envisioned. She incorporated all the flower colors we talked about in a lovely, creative fashion. The tattooing started first with adding a bit more gray shading and then adding a couple more flower petals and leaves in the blowout areas. My skin took those corrections very well. Victoria then started laying in the color elements. Her way of blending the colors was almost magical as I could see the image come to life. Total time for the second session was about two hours. It's been two weeks now and my tattoo is healing quite well and I'm so happy with it and with Victoria. I will go back to see her later this summer for some small touchups as she suggested. Other notes: the numbing cream Victoria recommends worked great and she even reapplied a bit more during the process. Closest to my wrist, where there are so many nerve endings, I did have some slight pain, but nothing beyond a mild discomfort. I will probably use it again. Parking can be a bit tricky as it is a busy area of town so I allowed extra travel time on my second visit and had no problem. Victoria's studio space is very comfortable, cozy, and nicely appointed. Her work space is very well organized. I have already recommended Victoria to several friends who are very impressed with her work, and I am already thinking about my next tattoo with her. I would not hesitate to recommend her in the future. read more

UPDATE: Responding to Victoria's comment..again..instead of words I am adding photos. PHOTO 6: the beautiful rework done by a different artist-it is the one with the flowers where we were able to keep the original feather and hummingbirds (not Victoria's work). (Note: Victoria told me multiple times this type of rework not possible. She also told me the flowers with the moon and sun at the top did not make sense from a design perspective) . In conclusion I do not agree that Victoria's assessment the rework and its design/final output were correct.In my opinion her design advice was not sound and her final work product work was disappointing to me. She is also painting an inaccurate portrayal of our email exchange, please also take a look at the other one star review-Victoria responds similarly to it and blames the client. Tattoos are permanent which is why this information matters. I stand by my original assessment: I would never recommend or return...and noting her responses to any form of negative feedback, there is a lack of empathy or accountability in how she digests her mistakes as a tattoo artist. ORIGINAL REVIEW FOR REFERENCE I have sat on this review for weeks and debated over posting. Instead of writing too much. I will post pictures of what Victoria's work looks like. Photo 1: For comparison-Original work from a different artist...I needed the light side shading re-worked. Photos 2-5: All of the grey work on the sides (NOT the feather or the hummingbirds-those were a different artist). The side "offshoots" from the feather is the work Victoria did on me. I added close ups so you can see the line work as well Luckily a different artist was able to fix it all and make it something beautiful. Victoria is very straightforward and does probably one of the most in-depth consultations I've ever had with any artist. I really have appreciated her style of communication because she takes into account, everything about your tattoo experience in the conversation she does not give you unrealistic expectations to have and she is very fair with her pricing. She put a lot of thought, into the tattoo design for me, and when I had to give her feedback on, it was very receptive and open , she is not the kind of tattoo artist that will just be there to try to take your money and not care about what they are putting on your body. I have been a client for 19 months now. Victoria is creating a spectacular back piece for me. I travel from Corvallis to Portland for each session (4 hours RT) because the years of research I did prior to showed no one, in a 300 mile radius, more qualified and nothing so far has changed my opinion. A session with Victoria is very much like a visit with your physician and your best friend combined. You will receive specialized and specific information about you and your situation. No generalizations and no sugar coating. As you would expect from your physician. And then you get share in amazingly intellectual conversations about current events, family or whatever you might unload on your best friend or therapist. And she is also great when I just want to close my eyes and not engage. These are important things when you spend so much time together. I highly recommend Victoria to anyone looking for this environment. Side note: Before I posted I read through the previous reviews and I have to respond to one. Victoria does not have a "parlor" with a receptionist. She runs her business (excellently) by herself in a one room studio. She must maintain a sterile environment for her safety and the clients safety. 80% of the clients, including myself, are partially nude during the session. Prior to starting a session, there is a process. She tells you what to expect during our session, the door is locked, blinds are drawn tight, a brightly painted sandwich board is placed in front of the door that says please do not interrupt, I am topless, Victoria prepares all her tools keeping a sterile environment, we have a time frame to keep so other clients are not waiting. So it really bugs me that someone complained about not receiving a warm welcome at the door. You ignored the studio name painted on the door at eye level, you ignored the sandwich board right beneath, you chose to keep pounding on the door after your initial knocks went unanswered and you expected a happy face? I pay an hourly rate just as you did when you finally located your tattoo artist, that you chose to not know the name of or exact address before you arrived. Are you going to reimburse me for the 10 minutes it took me to cover myself and for Victoria to tell you where your appointment is NOT and then have to recreate a sterile environment ? Your sense of entitlement and disregard for the inconvenience your interruption caused are mind boggling. I truly wish people had google reviews where I can leave a review about your lack of common sense and not being responsible for your personal business . Did you not know the address where you were going? Did your map app not work? Did your ability to dial a phone number suddenly leave you? I decided to get my very first tattoo at Floating Lotus Tattoo after seeing Victoria's beautiful works of art on her website. I was immediately impressed with her nature and yoga themed pieces and loved that she does custom work. i was looking for something very specific and having never had a tattoo before, i was nervous about the whole process. I felt comfortable with Victoria at first meeting. She was very professional and i noticed her space was very clean and sanitized. I'm a total germaphobe so this was very important to me. She walked me through the whole process from start to finish explaining what would happen next at each phase. We did two sittings - the black outline and then the color - and each was a great experience. When we were finished, she even asked me to be her May Feature of the Month, which I gladly agreed. I found Victoria while looking for an artist to continue the leg piece I've been working on for a while now. I was looking for someone who could do a very realistic feather, since most of what I was seeing was artistic, and it wasn't what I was looking for. I did a lot of research on local artists before contacting her for a meeting. I was impressed with her obvious desire to help me get down on paper the picture that I had in my mind. She didn't try to change my mind or insert her own ideas into my image. I told her what I needed, and she drew it out. She and I sat down and changed little things until the drawing was exactly what I wanted. Only then did we set an appt for the tattoo. Many would feel like this is slow going and really just want the tattoo done; but with Victoria, you KNOW you're getting what you want. You KNOW you won't look at the tattoo 2 years later and think, "Well I wish I'd done that part differently". One thing that caught my attention was that she'd made a comment during my coloring that I may not like how I chose to do the coloring on one of my feathers, and I may want to spread it out some more. Turned out she was right. I emailed her a few weeks later, and she set me up to put some more color into the design, right where she said I might want it. She works well at drawing out exactly what you need, but she ALSO works great at designing her own things. Feel free to give her free reign on the parts you aren't sure about. I got a simple shoulder tat done of a Celtic tree of life and after being hurried into a bandage and rushed out, i got home removed the bandage and saw lines crossing into negative space, areas where they came to a point and one side ran past the point, uneven gaps between crossover points, a serious lack of uniformity, lumpy leaves, and the straight lines look like her hand was shaky while she was trying to do the work. There was a vine tribal on both shoulders that was supposed to be reversed so as to match properly and was not reversed, and so far I've had three knowledgeable individuals quickly agree that this is very poor workmanship. The phrase "jailhouse tat" was used by one! Then when i wrote her and told her what was wrong with it and she proceeded to blame it all on me then flat out insult me calling me an asshole and the worst client ever, even though I was only factual and not aggressive nor did i swear at her. With there being so many good shops and artists in Portland i would recommend you go ANYWHERE else. This work is over priced and sub-par for the industry, and though she has done decent work in the past, the risk of ending up like me is considerable! There are other artists that will do a much better job for less, people who do it every day, not just a little here and there by appointment. I would highly recommend you at the very least meet with several other artists who are at the shop daily!!! And would definitely say to anyone "Do not, under any circumstances, get your tattoo at floating lotus". Its not worth the risk! I'd give her zero stars if i could, but Im required to give at least one... it's one more than she deserves. And now she is both flat out lying and exaggerating heavily on her comment to my review to "save face". I emailed her twice, and her perception of "hostility" is absurd. What is hostile is her personal attack on me in response to a factual review of my experience. I highly recommend going anywhere else and getting quality work done for cheaper. During my appointment i was repeatedly commended by her for how still i was... and all i did was chill and listen to music. I was definitely rushed into a bandage and didnt have time to give it a good look until later that night, where i responded with an quick email that i had issues with it, she blamed me for getting a design i didnt like, i then responded with a detailed email that reads almost exactly like my review... her response was to blame it on the small single cup of coffee i had then attack me personally based on my spiritual practice, flat out called me "asshole of the year" and worst client ever... but yeah, she tried to "fire me as a client" after insulting me... which is laughable. This whole ordeal is childish and denotes a serious lack of professionalism. Over priced... poor quality! Not finished because i wouldn't let her work on me again if i was getting payed to! Fact! And I promise you, I am only trying to warn you! SO many other places with highly skilled tattoo professionals!!!! And a significantly lower price!!! What I love best about Victoria is that she listens. She hears what you want to have done and makes it happen in a beautiful and professional way.
