    Sleeve, summer 2019
    Andrew S.

I've gotten a full sleeve on one arm and a shoulder cap on the other arm from Erica Finley at Blue Ox. I am beyond pleased with the results, and I get compliments wherever I go. I've never seen a tattoo by Erica that I didn't like, so I pretty much let her do whatever she wanted - but arriving at what to do was so effortless. Her line work is bold and precise, and she has a way of designing animals so that they're unique illustrations that come to life. Check her out on Instagram: @eekpdx

Some things are worth the wait. I could not be happier with my new artwork. Covid protections galore at Blue Ox. The shop was very chill and temp checks, sanitizer and masks for everyone. Erica is amazing. Her line work and the fine details are mesmerizing. I am not sure what is next for me in the ink category - but I have a dream tattoo on my arm now. So happy.

Originally was just a simple line design of a wave, tree, and mountain. She added more details to them.

Kati Green is absolutely amazing!! I had a tattoo done a few years ago and grew to dislike it a little bit. I wanted to keep it, but add more to it so it wasn't so boring. She was super easy to talk to and understood exactly what I envisioned. Couldn't be happier with it. She was also kind enough to touch up my other tattoo as well.

I got tattooed by Frankie Oakes, and she was so amazing! i was nervous about the having my hip done because it's pretty painful, but she was so calm and sweet the whole time it was no problem. the line work was beautiful and i couldn't have asked for more! Love Frankie and love my new tattoo!

Erica Finley ROCKS MY SOCKS!!! No seriously - I sat down with her to discuss an odd idea that I had for a full sleeve that involved two landscapes mirroring each other. I gave her the rough idea, but then insisted that she put her artistic twist on it to make it her own. I love her style and think that she is an amazing artist, so I was fairly certain that she'd knock it out of the park. Well.... she absolutely did!! It turned out even more incredible than I could have ever imagined and I can honestly say that I'm totally in love with it. I get hammered with compliments and questions about it all the time, which only further attests to the quality, and ultimately her ability as a tattoo artist. I'm already dreaming up the next one for her to do. GO SEE HER!

    Oh, this old thing? NBD.

Stopped in here as we were passing through Portland on a road trip so I thought it'd be good to hit all of the road trip clichés I could hit. ;) I figured if I was finally going to get the tattoo I've been wanting, Portland was the place to do it. This was my very first tattoo & I was honestly a little nervous, not sure what to expect. I did some calling around on a Saturday morning to see if a walk-in was at all possible. We needed to roll out the next day so that day was ideal. The gal I spoke to on the phone was super nice & prompt about calling me back after checking with Jessica about a walk-in appt. I was able to get in at 5:00 that evening, which was perfect. HOOO YEAH. All of the ladies in this shop were chill AF, friendly & fun to be around. The shop itself is clean, super cute & the bathroom is full of unicorn decor. I truly felt like a unicorn among unicorns. Jessica made my first tattoo a BREEZE. It was a small, geometric, line-drawing so it was over before I knew it. Since I had some first-timer butterflies going into it, I was beyond happy with how quick, easy & awesome my experience was. Jessica was very thorough with after-care instructions & 1 week later, it's healing beautifully. I can totally see how people get addicted to tattoos now & if I'm ever back in Portland, this is the place I'll be going to! Thank you so much, ladies!

    Dylan Fram is the jam!!!

My lady and I called up Blue Ox around noon on a Saturday and got in to see Dylan Fram at 3 pm. Tell you what, from the first step in the door to the last handshake after we were finished, Dylan and the whole crew at Blue Ox treated us like family and Mr. Fram did an impeccable job on both our tattoos. The process took a while, which is something I look for in a tattoo parlor; I hate feeling rushed when doing shit so important and permanent. No worries here. Dylan drew up the designs we brought in and modified a few things to improve upon the ideas. Then he went to work. Let's just say the man's nickname should be Sterile Stanley. I'm talking clean as a whistle, unbelievably professional and such a sweet dude, it was a pleasure spending a few hours with him. And one hell of an artist too. I think it's worth it to say that the other tattooers at Blue Ox were all friendly as hell and it shows that this place has a lot of love inside. 100% will be back for more tattoos. Many thanks to Dylan Fram and all the others for making these tattoos more than just the ink. See y'all soon!

Stellar work by Dylan Fram at Blue Ox.

Dylan Fram is amazing. I came in with three images and asked him to make them work together. I love his design and his color is so vibrant. Getting ready to have more work done by him.

I had 2 tattoos done by Kati Green at blue ox. She was wonderful, working with me to design tattoos that I loved and am super happy with. Clean shop, good prices, fun people, and talented artists. Will definitely be coming back to work on my sleeve with her!

My friend and I were wanting matching plastic vampire teeth tattoos since it'd be Halloween weekend and he was so kind when I told him what we wanted and mentioned he hadn't finished his flash sheet so he'd add in the teeth, (spoiler, they were PERFECT). The day we were planning on coming in was their planned flash day so we knew we had to anticipate a potential wait. The rainy Portland weather was in our favor because, even though we were unable to make our way in at 10:30AM as he recommended, we ventured in at 3PM and still got a spot in line. Jared was great, adding the text I wanted to my flash, and even touching up a small hand/wrist tattoo that was poorly done by someone else in a different state prior. Truly, so thankful he answered the phone that day bc I got a great vibe from him. He was also able to successfully turn my "splotch" knuckle tattoo (my loving nickname for it) to a beautiful black skull that ACTUALLY STAYED PUT (it was the 4th attempt over an old scar I had and he was the only one to successfully have a tattoo stick on it without it looking weird once healed). Since Jared was short on time before an appt, Ali did my friends matching fangs and they both turned out amazingly. Overall, I now fully intend to make the journey from Sacramento to Portland anytime I want something done so I can specifically have him do it or his shop-mate that does phenomenal portrait style flash/tattoos (she was diagonal from us when we were there - blonde long hair and beanie). The shop was super clean, artists were all super friendly, front desk apprentice was easy on the eyes, what's not love? 100/10 could not recommend this place enough!

She was easy to work with, really fun to talk to, and somehow made 4 hours fly by. I didn't think I'd want another tattoo for awhile but I'll definitely be back to Scapegoat to see Virginia soon. Sarah listens closely to what you want and then finds a cute, stylish way to make it work. Her placement is precise, she has a firm yet gentle touch, and her use of color is fantastic (both color theory and saturation). I've never been hip and now I'm getting old, so I'm quite used to feeling anxiously out-of-place in tattoo shops, but Scapegoat is more approachable and welcoming than your average shop. They go out of their way to offer water, space heaters, heating pads, masks, or whatever else might make you feel most comfortable. The artists seem to support and treat each other kindly. I made the terrible decision to be tattooed by Toby. I went in to start on a full sleeve, although it wasn't technically a full sleeve but a 3/4 sleeve. I have a tattoo on my upper arm that takes up half of my upper arm. During my 1st appointment we discussed that we are going to keep and incorporate that one. At my 1st appointment Toby told me that it would take 3 sessions since it wouldn't be an actual full sleeve. I paid for a full day session. He told me at my 1st appt that the stop time will be once I tap out. Our first session he ended early and said that his kids were sick. He specifically told me that our next session won't be the same. He also said our next session wouldn't take as long to get started. I went back in for my 2nd session yesterday at 10am. He showed up late like he did for our 1st appt. It wasn't until about 11am that he started drawing on me. It took him about 4 hours to draw on me. Keep in mind we haven't even started on my upper arm. He was drawing on my lower arm. Finally by 3pm we get started tattooing. The table wasn't working properly so he had to reset up a new one. Then some random person walks in looking for a tattoo. He stopped tattooing me to go chat with the person. Then throughout my entire session he purposely inflicts maximum pain. He seems to think that I don't have any large or decent pieces. I have my entire back done. I also have portraits and pieces on my legs. I have good quality work in those areas. I only mentioned to him that I wanted my back covered up, but because I don't like it anymore and don't have those beliefs anymore. It's not due to the quality. The tattoos that he was starting to cover on my arm are much older tattoos that I got when I was younger. Based off of that I suppose he thinks I don't know any better. My ex is also a tattoo artist so I understand needle groupings, heavy hands vs light hands, dry wipe vs wet wipe etc. Throughout my entire session he never finished a single area. He jumps from area to area throughout the entire process. He would randomly jump from my wrist, elbow, side of arm, just all over the place. He opens up the area and works on it for a while, then moves to another area for like 20min or so, then moves back to the area he opened up. He inflicts serious pain. I hinted to him several times that each time you do that it hurts much worse. He never listened and continued to do it. I told him from the start that I wanted to work in a particular area first. He didn't listen. He is super heavy handed intentionally. He dry wipes with a paper towel the whole time. He inflicts maximum pain to attempt to get you to tap early. At the very start of our 2nd session after the marker was drawn on, I flat out asked him will you be able to finish this today to which he yes. By about 10pm he said we should call it a night. I literally only had maybe 1/2 of a half sleeve. There was so much work to complete still. I told him no I want to keep going. He didn't want to but I was persistent. So we get back to tattooing. I asked him flat out why did you tell me that we would have this finished today if that isn't the case. He said well there are a lot of factors like the way a client takes pain. I told him he put me in a ton of pain but I never once stopped him so what do you mean. I told him I feel lied to, taken advantage of, and just how unhappy I was by this and that I won't be continuing with him. I was planning on getting 2 full sleeves, full chest piece, and a cover up on my entire back. I told him you literally told me that for a full day session that it means we stop once I tap out. He got extremely combative. He said that in the fine print says he only tattoos 7 hrs max. I said why did you lie to me then? He ended up calling me an asshole and threatened to stop my work mid session to leave it. He said it's his right to do so. I said that I'd leave a review about this and he said that's "thats fine, I don't give a f". I'm not sure if he ended up texting his family or people or what. But suddenly around midnight all his people showed up at the tattoo studio I guess to try to intimidate me. I paid $ 3,225 in total and I don't have a completed half sleeve. I don't even have a single section of my arm that is complete due to him jumping around constantly. Literally not even one single area of this "half sleeve" is completed. During our argument he scoffed at me and was the mentality of how dare you .. but he admitted flat out a full sleeve is 5 grand. I said okay and I've paid over 3 grand now and I don't even have a completed half sleeve. He refuses to take accountability. He is a very selfish mentality, a liar, and he will gaslight you the entire time. He pretends to be a nice person but he is absolutely not. He takes advantage of people and rips them off.
