We had a wonderful experience working with Mr. Basset Laban, from Floor Expo in Fountain Valley. From the first time we met, he expertly guided us through our vinyl floor selection, matching it beautifully with our existing rugs. We then proceeded to discuss a remodel of our master bath and amazingly everything coordinated well to begin the bath remodel followed by the flooring in the master bath, bedrooms and bonus room just in time for the holidays! We were so impressed with each team that came through on time and with efficient and expert workmanship. Special kudos to the gentlemen who installed our Italian ceramic tiles in the shower.They took the time to place my favorite tiles at eye level to create beautiful movements like an ocean scene! I got a quote from Home Depot to give me a baseline on cost for new carpet and tile. It was a good and fair price for good and fair product. Hayan at Floor Expo and Design showed me superior materials (Italian tile) for a better price that was all inclusive*. *While the Depot's price was good, they charged extra for coming out to measure, moving furniture, demo, disposal, and half a dozen more basic steps for installation of carpet and tile. Hayan and his team(s) took care of all of that in his one low price. I'm positive it's calculated in his overall fee, but he didn't "nickel & dime me" and saved me about $2,400. And when we encountered a hiccup, which is normal in the course of construction and different teams of workers, Hayan - always calm and polite - took care of the issue until it was resolved and my wife and I were satisfied. I came here today in search of laminate flooring and carpeting. After reading the review on the place, I thought this will be a good place to pick up both my laminate and my carpeting in one place and I will be helping a small business! I walked in and the place was deserted, I searched both levels and found not one customer nor one employee to help me. Finally I found a lone salesman balancing his check book downstairs. I approached him and this is how it went: ME: Hi! SM: Yes, Can I help you? ME: (holds my sample of floor taken from my house) Ya, I'm looking to match this floor? I don't know the name but was hoping we can match it? SM: What's the name? ME: I don't know it. SM: Well without the name I can't help you. ME: (Scratches head) Umm, OK. Well, would it help to look at some samples and see if anything matches? SM: All floors lock differently. It will be no good. I can't help you. ME: Um, ok the obvious thing to do would be to narrow it down and then see, but ok. Thanks for your help. Now, obviously I was looking to spend some money and I so desperately wanted to do it at this place. But, with a rude salesperson who is too lazy to make his commission check by doing some simple research, I don't want to give him my business. Sorry dude looks like you won't be getting a commission from me. By coming home and doing some research on my own, I figured out besides Pergo there are two different locking mechanisms and it could've easily been narrowed down. Please shop around and do not sign anything from this store! Do not come here if you are a first-time shopper or you may be duped. I was looking for flooring in 2007 and was assisted by Hayan. He advised I had to place a $400 deposit to secure laminate flooring at a "sale price" of $5.99 a square foot. Being naive, I did. He wrote an estimate slip (later I found to be an invoice) with no description for labor, amount of materials, etc. Never let any company write an invoice with nothing on it. He also picked out some tile for me. He didn't even ask for my preferences, just picked out things on my behalf. This is a little controlling and not a good customer experience. I called a day later to advise I'd like to cancel. He called back a couple of other times to offer me breaks hundreds of dollars off. Nothing in writing. He told me to wait until the estimate before I made up my mind. I had asked if I decided to cancel after the estimate that it was ok. He begrudgingly said yes. The estimate came out to be over $1,000 the initial quote. I asked to get a refund of the deposit (nothing was ordered) and cancel the order. Hayan was acting like a jerk and said no. That he "doesn't work for nothing" even though the estimate is typically free and the cost of doing business. I ended up settling this instead of filing a true complaint as I had other things on my plate. Also, you can get a cheaper deal from a number of companies. Installation can easily be $2.00 a square foot, not $3.00 as they will try to convince you. Since then, I've had much more positive experiences with other companies and got my flooring installed for over $1,000 less with another company who did a superb job and was pressure-free. Check my Yelp profile for that review. Please learn from my mistake. Do not put down any deposit on any materials! Legally, you are not obligated. Do not sign anything that states deposit non-refundable. Do not sign anything that does not have full details of the project. Likewise, do not trust an establishment who will not do this for you. If you opt to have vinyl wood plank flooring as I did, do your homework. I am disappointed that although my flooring has a foam backing on it, it sounds extremely hollow when you walk on it. Basically, it sounds cheap. The flooring itself is high quality, but Floor Expo did not offer me an underlay. I found out that there are different underlays you can install which will eliminate the hollow sound. I wish we had known that; I would've gone to a different vendor that offered it. Went to a neighbor who has the same type of flooring and they have an underlay -- their floor is nice and quiet. We also had carpeting installed and I feel the installers hurried their way through and I can feel some of the tacks near the edges. After a large investment in my home, I wish I could say that I am thrilled, but I am not. read more

We had been in search of hardwood flooring for quite some time before we landed at Floor Expo and Design. Hayan was very knowledgeable and patient. He came to our home on more than one occasion with samples and when we finally chose, he suggested we order a box to ensure it matches the sample. Unfortunately the box we ordered did not match the sample or our home. Hayan searched high and low for other possibilities and even ordered a couple more boxes. Several months later, we finally found the perfect match. Now for the installation. The team that Hayan sent was right on time. Demo happened quickly and the install was going very smoothly. We thought all was good until the crew removed the paper used to protect our kitchen cabinets during the demo. An inexperienced member of the crew did not protect the cabinetry well enough and as a result all of our lower cabinets and island had damage to it due to projectiles of our old limestone floor during the demo. As you can imagine, we were mortified. Alex the installer and Hayan took full responsibility. A few weeks later, they sent in a wood stain specialist to repair all the damage. Many times the reputation of an individual is based on how they respond to things when they go wrong. Hayan never made excuses and worked tirelessly until he knew we were completely satisfied. As an individual and company, I would give Floor Expo 5 stars. However, I am only rating 4 stars due to the damage caused by an inexperienced team member of the installation crew (which should have never happened).
